    Food.... Terrible
    Yvette C.

7/28/24 Party of 2 12:20pm It's super rainy today and there's no mats on the floor's when you enter. We were seated quickly and given 2 menus, one which was very dirty and sticky. Angela was our server and she was very nice and friendly. French toast with eggs, hash, bacon and sausage: 1/10: eggs were ok, everything else was terrible. Hash was burned on one side and undercooked on the other side. Sausage and bacon weren't even fully cooked and the French toast was just toast with sugar. Orange juice 0/10: watered down. Utensils were dirty and the both were sat in had a torn side. Don't come here. Period.

I give this Denny's one star but would give them a zero if I could . I ordered the fit slim with gluten-free muffins I told them to make sure they were gluten-free. I am extremely allergic to gluten. Thank god I only ate 1 of the muffins . Turned out it was NOT gluten free and I became extremely Ill . Do not eat here if you have food allergies because they could care less & will put your life in danger .I am extremely upset that they disregarded my special diet .

Wife and I have been here several times. It looks like the restaurant has issues with keeping temperature in dining area. It is always warm and they have fan going to remedy the issue instead of fixing the problem. We visited the restaurant Friday hoping it would be better. Unfortunately same problem. Well wife ordered omelette from the menu. It was diced greesey veggies and greesey egg that didn't resemble anything as omelette with flapping the eggs over the veggies. We will not be visiting this place for a long time. Service was OK but nothing to write home about.

Sirloin Steak & Eggs with hashbrowns

Host was friendly and knowledgeable, very polite and my drink was never empty. Food was great!! Got the sirloin with eggs and hash browns! It's a must try

Hashbrowns ordered to be 'crispy brown at top, bottom & in between'

Pix is the 2nd batch of hashbrowns after 1st sent back were even lighter. At least I saved calories by just leaving them. The Eggs Benedict did have the eggs done right but the sauce was just blah. Hubby was happy with his Grand Slam. Nice waitresses and prompt service. The restrooms need a deep cleaning but not horrid. We'd go back once more though hoping for improvement.

To go box please (waited 15 minutes for it)

I made a DoorDash order and I understand that I placed it a little late, but there were no berries on my Berry vanilla crêpe breakfast .

Both dishes were overwhelmingly salty, and the salt overpowered the flavors of each entrée. The biscuit served with the eggs bene was dry, and the ham on my eggs benedict tasted like cheap lunch meat, which was really underwhelming for a dish like this. While the eggs themselves were cooked well, I couldn't help but wonder, where was the Hollandaise sauce? The key part of the dish was missing. The pulled pork biscuit was tasty, but again - it was overly salty.

AH. WANTED TO LOVE IT, DIDN'T END UP EVEN LIKING IT. AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE THOUGH!…read more Service: 4/5 It looked like a one man show- I can appreciate that. The man who I assume could be the owner, was a server, cashier, and the cleaning crew. Haha. He looked a bit serious but he was very kind. Food: 2/5 I hate to admit it, but just like some of the lower reviews said- the food was so bland. I mean, not a taste of seasoning. I ordered a chicken fried biscuit with gravy, and it came with potatoes. My sister ordered a bacon croissant. I'll start off with mine. They did give me a rather large hunk of chicken; the batter slid right off and the chicken itself was tasteless, I do mean absolutely tasteless :( The biscuit was so dry, and crumbly. Possibly day old? Not sure. I slapped some of their homemade jam (Now that jam was wonderful! ) however they don't give too much of anything (butter, gravy, jam) so I do feel the sandwich would be better if it was maybe made smaller? I'm not sure. It was just a huge biscuit with nothing to slather it with. The gravy portion is really not fair, lol. Since the biscuit was super dry and again SUPER bland, I do feel they should make the gravy a bigger portion. My sister said her bacon croissant "was nothing special. I could've made it at home." I also want to throw out there that their drinks also need some help. I ordered a strawberry lemonade, my sister did a "freshly brewed tea" ah. The tea was bitter as heck and the lemonade tasted like it was pure strawberry syrup. :( Price: 2/5 I spent $30.00 on two plates, that Indeed we could've just made at home for 1/3 of the price. I know food is at an all time high right now, but this meal was not worth my hard earned money. We couldn't find one thing we actually enjoyed about it. Overall: 1/5. I hate to be honest because I really want to see small shops thrive; whenever I go to a restaurant I ask myself "Would you come back?" And the answer for Happy Cafe is absolutely not. The food, the atmosphere, the drinks, everything was just not for us. The restaurant itself needs some deep cleaning, an upgraded menu, and maybe some new tables (ours were peeling and super sticky) however, if I'm being honest I can get past that- but I simply will not return due to the food. As some of the others said, I don't know how this place is so highly rated (love that for them) but it just wasn't for me and my family, maybe it will be for yours.

I also noticed that they seem to have a lot of regulars, which is always a good sign for a local breakfast place. It was myself, my husband, and his parents dining together, and we all ordered the Country Fried Steak. In my personal opinion, it was comparable to something you might get at a chain like Denny's or IHOP. When it comes to country fried steak, I personally prefer cubed steak that has a bit more texture and isn't overly tender or didn't have burger patty texture -- this one reminded me more of a patty. The gravy lacked a bit of flavor for my taste, and we ended up seasoning it ourselves. It didn't come across as homemade. I also wish the hash browns had been crispier on top. That said, the restaurant itself is very cute, and I loved the antique décor. It has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere that adds to the overall dining experience.

One morning we decided to take him and walk around Gruene and eat lunch. There wasn't much going on there, so we got back in the car and headed elsewhere to eat. I had never been to Buttermilk Cafe, but my wife has been several times with the grandson and his parents. I got a little nervous when we went inside. It was a bustling place, and I was concerned that the wait might be too much for the baby. Fortunately, the wait was about five minutes. This place smells like heaven. The food that we ordered was wonderful. I had the house smoked salmon with toast points and a poached egg. My wife had a slice of quiche, an orange muffin, and some fruit. The baby had a turkey sausage patty, one of my toast points, and some of my wife's fruit. Everyone was super friendly. The staff were wearing football jerseys to celebrate the Super Bowl. The food came pretty quickly considering how packed they were. All orders were just as ordered. My waffle came with syrup and butter on the side so that I could use as much/little as I wanted. Everything was very good, and our waitress never let our coffee mugs get even half empty. She was really good at her job and was also a very good conversationalist. Will I return? Definitely!

We were given the option of waiting about 15 minutes for a table or sitting in the bar area, so we chose one of the high-top tables in the bar. The café itself is very cute and has a charming atmosphere. The bar area has red neon lighting along the ceiling, which gives the room a distinctive glow. After ordering coffee and waters, we decided on the fried mushrooms, the meatloaf plate, and the Breakfast Pile. They never ended up refilling any of our drinks. The fried mushrooms came out first and were piping hot. They were served with both white gravy and ranch. The ranch was pretty tasty, but the mushrooms themselves were fairly bland and quite greasy. To be fair, deep-fried mushrooms aren't exactly a light dish, but I found myself adding salt to everything to bring out more flavor. For my entrée, I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans. The meatloaf contained carrots, which was an interesting touch. The slices were very thick and firm, and honestly didn't resemble or taste like a traditional meatloaf. I asked for the gravy on the side and ended up dipping each bite into it, but the dish still wasn't my favorite. The green beans were the biggest miss for me. They had a mucky flavor that reminded me of mop water. The Breakfast Pile was decent enough: potatoes, sausage, eggs, and gravy layered together. Unfortunately, it also felt underseasoned and could have benefited from more flavor. The standout item of the entire meal was the biscuit with honey butter. They initially forgot to bring the honey butter, and I'm very glad we asked for it because it completely made the dish. The biscuit was warm, soft, and by far the most enjoyable thing we ate. Overall, Mama's Café has a cute atmosphere and friendly service despite being understaffed when we visited. However, most of the food felt underseasoned and lacked flavor. If you're looking for a cozy spot to sit and chat, it's worth a visit, but based on this meal, I probably would only come back if someone said it was their favorite restaurant and I try what they order
