    collard greens

CRAPPER BARREL! The WORST restaurant experience I've ever had. Restaurant was filthy, service was slow, and food tasted like it came out of a trash can. I'm not exaggerating. First of all I asked for green beans as my side with my chicken and dumplings, I received collard greens. Anyways, the chicken and dumplings were horrible, plain bread had more flavor than that monstrosity. The only flavor was from the pepper I had to add. Now on to the worst part of this prison meal... the collard greens. They didn't even taste edible. I can imagine if you took a bite of out a smokers couch it would taste the same, and that's being nice. Pancakes were gross.

Eggs were perfect ! The chef really did a great job on the food. Waitress was good also. Everyone was so nice and helpful. . I stopped Mike and asked him for butter . While he was carrying dishes.. He came back with a handful.

Wait time was about 25 minutes, which is not abnormal when we come to a Cracker Barrel restaurant. The temperature is very cold outside and pretty much inside. The first table we asked to be moved because of the draft coming through. I ordered fresh hot coffee, turnip greens, potato casserole, and the fried chicken. My sweetheart, ordered their new potato casserole shepherds pie. The fried chicken was hot however the breading is too thick to my liking. If you enjoy double fried very hard crispy chicken skin then this is for you. The turnip greens and potato casserole was lukewarm, but tasty. My sweetheart stated the shepherds pie was OK could've used more of the potato casserole versus the mashed potatoes as it was advertised. The pot roast was tender and quite tasty and it was served in the cute cast-iron skillet. Coffee was fresh and hot. However, the spoon that was given to me was not properly cleaned. The biscuits were fresh, plush and delicious. They actually melted in my mouth. Our waitress was very sweet and friendly. I will give her a four stars. The restrooms on the other hand were horrific. Smelly and trashy. I will be sure to let management know on our way out. Overall experience was three stars .

The parking lot was almost empty, which I mentioned but then thought maybe because it's 3pm. Although Golden Corral next door was packed. Google gave this place a 4.2 stars, I wish I had looked at yelp first because I definitely would not have eaten here. The food was awful breakfast casserole very greasy and I got the Shepards pie which I could not eat much of, and started having a stomach ache after eating some of it. Who puts tomatoes and sour cream on Shepards pie? But not just that it was not good at all.

What an old-fashioned gem of a restaurant!…read more Today my friend and I tried out this classic Williamsburg breakfast/Lunch spot and it hit the spot! We had a 20 minute wait for a table so we walked around inside checked out the gift shop. They have a variety of jewelry, food items, and trinkets available in the gift shop. We were seated after our little wait and immediately got our drink order taken. Our server was quick to come over and also get our meal order. I ordered the Melinda's special which included a drink, fruit salad, cup of Brunswick stew, two ham biscuits, and a slice of pie. All was very good and I subbed the Brunswick stew for the chicken & rice soup! I love how the ham is nice and thinly sliced and the chocolate pie was to die for! I need to go back and try all the flavors of pie! My dining companion loved her BLT sandwich and said the bacon was cooked nice and crisp! Inside the tables are all wood and the restaurant is located in an old house. It's quaint inside and all the servers are very kind. Will be back for sure!

The restaurant is located on Jamestown Road in Williamsburg in a cute building that was partly built repurposing materials from older buildings in the area, such as Carter's Grove. In addition to the restaurant, Old Chickahominy House also includes a gift shop that sells household decor items as well as pieces of ladies clothing, jewelry, coastal decorations, tea towels, and tea, among other items. It's fun to peruse the shop while waiting for your table. They serve breakfast in the morning and lunch after breakfast. For lunch, we really enjoy the Miss Melinda's Special. It starts with a little fruit salad comprising peaches and a slice of pineapple on a piece of lettuce, covered with a mayonnaise type of dressing and cheddar cheese. I know it sounds strange, but it's refreshingly tasty. You also receive a cup of Brunswick Stew and two ham biscuits. Delicious! The meal comes with a piece of pie, with your choices including buttermilk that tastes like lemon (yum!), coconut, chocolate, and a fruit pie, like cherry. Plus, you receive hot or iced tea and coffee. You also can carry out their menu items. I often order a container of Brunswick Stew and some ham biscuits for guests coming in late from out of town. It's a perfect welcoming meal. I'll post some photos too so you can Miss Melinda's Special, the menu, and the interior.

We are a middle aged couple, and sometimes when we have the kids with us we review from that perspective as well. We were traveling for Thanksgiving and they had a pre set menu for $48 a person which included an appetizer of Winter soup, the main dinner and as amazing! The turkey was cooked perfectly, not dry! The stuffing was to die for, the mashed potatoes full of creamy flavor, and don't get me started on the collard greens! Just give me the whole pot!! They KNOW how to do collards. The desert was also very good, pumpkin pie with butter pecan ice cream. Overall the place was great, my only issue was that you had to make a reservation (which I get) but we didn't have one and figured we would try anyway. So we walk in and ask if there is any available seats... mind you I saw like 4 full open tables, a long high top table with 10-12 seats available... she looks at her list and starts counting, asks if I'm ok with a high top, I say yes, so we take the seats at the long table that seats like 12 as a shared table. So were there for a little over an hour and not one of those available tables when I walked in were used. I am not sure if they have in place where if your 10 minutes late for your reservation then you forfeit your table. Because paying customers would have liked that table. But the food was amazing and that made up for it. With tip, Thanksgiving dinner was about $149 for 2 people.
