Our granddaughter enjoying the crayons and kids handout
    Michael S.

My wife and I stopped here for lunch with our young granddaughter on a Saturday afternoon. Like so many places, it appeared they were a bit shorthanded because some seating areas had no servers. I don't in any way hold that against them, though. #Bummer. We asked for a table by the windows and received one (thank you, hostess). One of the things I'm always looking for is dirty floors, especially in corners or along the edge of the walls. Cracker Barrel gets an A+ here for cleanliness. Our table was clean as well. Keep it up! I ordered the Cheesy Bacon Homestyle Chicken since there was a giant picture of it on the menu and it looked good. We also got some sliders and fries for our granddaughter. My wife got the chicken fried steak but I'll let her review that . Tracy, our waitress, was very prompt with everything. She gave our granddaughter a kid's paper menu/drawing thing and some crayons so she was happy while we waited for our food. So far, so good. Our food was served promptly. Mine and my wife's food was nice and hot, and our granddaughter's food was cooler. Again, perfect. But, then we hit a speed bump. The breading on my chicken was not good. I can only describe it as once-crispy but left out and then nuked so it's now chewy. Know what I mean? It was bad, which was a shame because the carrots I got for a side were great. I requested the manager and the waitress Tracy together. I explained the issue with the breading (nicely, I'm not a Karen) and the manager immediately offered to replace it with anything I wanted. Great! Then, and the reason I wanted the manager, was so my wife and I could tell her although there was a problem with my meal, Tracy was awesome. People always hear the bad, but they need to hear the good as well. I got roast beef as my replacement along with a side of fried apples and mashed potatoes with gravy. All three were great and there was nothing left by the time I was done. Well, my lovely wife absconded with my apples so I only got a few of them. Our granddaughter got some, too, and she loved them as well. At the cash register, we had to wait for the cashier to come over. I was standing there for a bit, but it turned out he was just a few feet away talking to the host. When I stood right up at the counter, instead of like 3 feet back where I had been standing as I looked around for someone to help, he walked over. He could use some training to understand when people are standing in front of the cash register with their stuff and maybe ask them if they are ready to check out. Don't make them literally touch the counter before you walk over to help them. All in all, I'm giving four stars. Tracy, though, gets 10 stars!

I didn't think I would have a back to back visit to different Cracker Barrel restaurants. This one is located in Salisbury and actually was a social meeting visit. Seating and drinks were quick and efficient. Orders were taken and I returned with the Country Steak with eggs, the hash casserole, with coffee. Biscuits were brought out with our meal and the steak was fantastic. Coffees were refilled and getting the server to bring the check along with a takeout box was relatively easy since she was constantly checking on our progress. Dishes were even taken away before the check arrived. I had no complaints at all and would return back, if in the area again.

Breakfast was very good , got there early enough to beat the crowd . The new strawberry pancakes were very good . The Carmel latte was as good as one you would get at Dunkin'. Definitely one of my top breakfast spots . And will be returning

Cracker Barrel's our favorite place to go to whenever we want home style southern cooking. Eating and shopping are my thing. What can be more perfect than Cracker Barrel! I always ended up having my belly full and a bag of something. During this trip, I bought a pair of girl's sunglasses and a toy for my granddaughter. My husband, our granddaughter and I came I came in at around 5 pm, so there's no wait and we're seated upon arrival. Immediately after seating, our waitress approached us with a smile and got our drinks order. She's friendly and very attentive. I ordered my usual Chicken Fried Steak, green beans and turnip greens. Yummy! My husband ordered the Cheesy Bacon Homestyle Fried Chicken. He didn't like it. He said the breading was chewy. The manager asked him if he wants to order something else and ordered Roast Beef which was tasty and tender. We shared peach cobbler and asked for additional scoop of vanilla ice cream. Perfection! Overall, we were happy about our dining experience. The nostalgic homey interior's a plus.

The table we were escorted to had water underneath it. We had to ask to be moved to a nearby vacant table. That table had water on the seat and food in the high chair. I apologized for bothering her and asked the woman with us for a napkin. The woman told us she was a hostess, she escorts people to tables and the server could get us anything we needed. That's when we should have left. The pancakes were so-so. And there was bacon in my fried apples

Our server, I forget her name, was the epitome of hospitality and service. She anticipated our needs (refills, to go containers etc) - chatted about the history or the restaurant and town - providing suggestions not just for dinner but attractions on our way to our destination. She was just so very cool. The food was great - I opted for Greek Spaghetti. Different than I've had before but enjoyed it all the same. It was like the flavor was liquid or broth form, pooled at the bottom of the dish. Another version I had was dry, like Pesto. Anyway - when I figured out all the goodness was at the bottom of the plate - it was all over from there. Mixed it up a little. Toss in a little crushed red peppers for taste. Then inhaled it all until it was all gone. The al dente noodles. Charred chicken. All just right. The service for me made it an excellent experience. Food was good and I enjoyed it enough that if I'm ever in the area again, I'd definitely stop in - but not before trying other places first. But if I lived in the area, I'd be a regular.

We love to eat out and we chose to eat here for my birthday this year…read more I sent a letter to the restaurant a week ago. This is an edited version. First impression: We were not automatically offered a table inside or out but were told "Follow me" to the outside table. Please see the photo. Does this look like a nice setup for an almost $300 meal? The table was wobbly. The paint on the wall was peeling. Maybe they should hire an artist to decorate that blank wall. The inside is very dark. First course: Oysters. Sauce delicious: BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH TINY OYSTERS. Barely a blip in your mouth, 1/4"?? These are on the menu also as charred? Huh? Do they have different oysters for that? Nothing would be left. We got tiny oysters on seaweed did not match even the photo on their web site, decent size oysters on ice. One week later I ate at a restaurant in Hickory and got six fabulous oysters for $13.25. CV charges $21. Main course: Branzino and asparagus. $52. Very nice. But (and I just had to look back at the menu on line to see what this was), the charred radish was so hard you could hardly poke a fork into it, inedible. And I was not aware of a single fava bean as advertised on the menu. Swordfish special: $52. Slightly overcooked. Blackened carrots rock hard, inedible. Whoever is in charge of vegetables needs to taste before sending out. While we were eating the fish, the server placed two steak knives on the table. Huh? Dessert: Dubai chocolate eclair sounded great. Maybe bought at Costco or Sams??? Two arrived on a plate with absolutely no presentation. One with a squiggle of chocolate underneath would have been better. Absolutely no pistachio flavor and VERY COLD. Should be room temperature. Did they come out of the fridge or freezer? Perhaps at room temperature flavor would have been more obvious. It was nice that when I had mentioned dark instead of milk chocolate the kitchen used dark. Table not cleared for dessert. Steak knives still there. Irish coffee: there is more to Irish coffee than adding whisky to a lukewarm cup of coffee and asking if I wanted cream after coffee was delivered. I enclosed the recipe and photo in my letter. Wine: wine list fairly priced. Our server did not know anything about the Cotes de Rhone we questioned but brought the bottle for us to have a look at. As vineyard and winery owners we grew viognier, this is why we were interested in this particular bottle. The server took our photo and I mentioned it was my birthday. In many cases this would be referred to the kitchen. Nothing special ensued. The well dressed owner (Doreen) walked past our table a number of times (sometimes carrying used dishes or glasses) without even glancing at us. I guessed she was the owner and spoke up. A nod and hello would have been nice. We came here with an open mind prepared to spend a large sum on a birthday dinner. Read the captions under the pictures. One oyster shot from their web site. Wish I had photo'ed what I got. The other oyster shot Hickory Restaurant one week later for less money.

The inside is very clean and countryfied in their decor, and the people who work here are very friendly and positive people. When you go there and are seated, you feel like you're a regular. It's hard to choose from the menu, because it's huge. The last time I went, I brought my grandson and we both decided right off that we will have breakfast. We are huge breakfast lovers. We chose what we wanted and ordered, our drinks came out and the food followed fast. Everything was perfect. They have some of the absolute best pancakes ever. I should've ordered the short stack (two pancakes) but I ended up ordering the large one by mistake. No worries, it was still fabulous. Lots of pecans and the fluffiest pancakes I've ever had. Grandson ordered the meat lovers omelette and said it was the best one he's ever had. There was an almost unbelievable amount of meat in that omelette. I took a small bite and it was very good. We've had other things in the past, their eggs Benedict are superior as well as their hash browns. Before you go, do not neglect the dessert cabinet by the register. They make a fabulous rainbow cake.

The pancakes themselves are light and fluffy, while the croissant French toast isn't exactly up to par in my opinion. These are both great themes and are great breakfast treats for once in a while, but I'm looking for more flavor in them! They don't have as much flavor as you would expect. Bacon is good (crunchy and hot), eggs are great (hard scrambled), and the home fries are pretty good, but if you don't like seasoning, don't order them. I would like a bit more of a crunch in those home fries, also. Both times, service has been quick and attentive. When you run out of drink, your server immediately fills it back up (take note other restaurants), and the restaurant itself definitely feels like an old-timer farmhouse restaurant. If you are in Salisbury, this is a great option for breakfast, but I would recommend you also go to Palms for breakfast, or even Marlowe's also.
