Driving from Texas to Florida stayed Nextdoor at the hotel and decided to place an order on line. I got the pancakes, two eggs and added fresh strawberries to my order with a black coffee. Husband got some plate with the iced brown sugar latte. My husband picked up our food to bring it back to the hotel. Arrived with a note on the receipt stating latte machine broken. I called to ask if the refund would just be returned to my credit card. A lady with a little spice said "well we gave you a free black coffee" Ummm no ma'-am. I ordered that....additionally, do not compare a plain black drip coffee with an iced brown sugar latte. Told me I had to call the number for yelp/help (S/O to yelp for giving g me a refund on that coffee). I opened my pancakes and found the "trash strawberries" anything but fresh, disappointed absolutely disgusting soggy soft, moldy/rotting strawberries. I have not been to a cracker barrel in a couple of years and after celebrating July 4th with family, I wanted to go back to the basics, Skip the frills of other brunch and breakfast spots and, go to cracker barrel. Cracker barrel has changed a bit since my last visit as a now serve mimosas and they have removed to Turkey sausage from their menu. I ordered the Old Timers Breakfast which comes with protein, eggs, biscuits & gravy and your starch option. A basket of biscuits were brought out for the table But I chose not to indulge in order to wait for the biscuits and gravy that came with my meal. When my mail came out, I did not have my biscuits and gravy. I mentioned it to the server who seemed surprised that I wanted it.... The interaction was odd but, she did end up bringing it out to me. I had my 101 year old grandma with me who enjoyed her Grandma's Breakfast meal. The mimosa was okay. I made it early enough that they were still open so yes, I finally got that dinner after staying in a dozen Cracker Barrel parking lots overnight and not eating. Yes, Cracker Barrel tolerates RVers in their lot overnight and they would like us to, but don't require, purchase a meal. For dinner this evening, I let the waitress talk me into the roast beef dinner with two sides (mac & cheese and broccoli) and I overheard later that there was some sort of internal promotion on them. Fine by me, this was a decent meal with a few slices of thing sliced beef in a light gravy. Tasty and filling, it was served quick, hot and correctly. The store was full of the stuff the store is always filled with, the restrooms were decently clean, and I spent a quiet night in my RV in a corner of the parking lot. Five stars! We have a 2 hour drive from this Lafayette LA location home. Not quite enough time to leave a whole review so I will just give the bullet points : 1. We ordered what we considered fast food. Beans and greens. We watched as a row of 4 tables with a working waitress was turned twice. Fried chicken and cod and meats. All take longer to make. 2. 20 minutes to get lemon for my tea and a glass of water after asking the server and 2 other people. No food yet. 3. 30 minutes after ordering the server tells us there are no greens. There were no greens before that ! 4. The food delivered at 45 minutes. The beans cold. The ham - desiccated - like jerky but worse. NO MANAGER ON THE FLOOR. A modest adjustment was made to the bill without our asking. We were ready to go so we didn't hassle it for $6 more. We spoke with other patrons while waiting in a line to check out. They had the good waitress. They said THAT was a first. The one we had .... Really sad day for me. What once was my "go to" place for breakfast has turned to crap. Ordered 3 eggs- got 2, biscuits were fresh from the oven-about 15 minutes too early. Really gummy inside. Somebody lost a pair of shoes, because I found the soles on my plate masquerading as country ham OJ was ok, coffee was standard fare for CB. Jason was pretty good, prices unreasonable but that's mostly due to idiots in DC. I personally will not be visiting any CB again. NO BISCUITS !! aparently they are made during the day before 3pm and put into a 'hot-box'. the daily special came out piece-meal and not correct. waited & waited to get corrected...was informed that No cold-glasses were available for drinks.. Service was friendly, but you can tell they are understaffed as they were not seating at full capacity. Food did take some time to come out as well from the kitchen. It almost seemed if as the whole restaurant of tables were "turned" so the kitchen would get a flood of orders which contributed to the delays. If you've gone to Cracker Barrel before, you know what you are getting in food quality and this location is no different. I can walk to IHop in 5 minutes or drive to Waffle House in 10, but I would happily drive across town for Cracker Barrel blueberry pancakes for years. The next to last time I visited, perhaps a month ago, the pancakes took about 20 minutes to arrive and were not nearly as good as they had been for all those years. Today, they were literally the worst pancakes I have ever had. Literally! In fact, I could only eat about 1/2 of a pancake, despite being very hungry. Visit this establishment for brunch after church and it was amazing. It reminds me of the old days when I was a little girl. This store has a Country field. So much of things from the past in this store. They have toys and candies from back in the day that you can't find in local stores. I ordered the the grandmas breakfast which consist of two pancakes, two eggs, bacon, sausage and ham. I also added grits. Everything was good. I feel like i just stepped into an alternate universe where everything that can go wrong, does. Let me just start this by saying I used to come to Cracker Barrel all the time as a kid. I'm young and very tolerant of "things not going smoothly" regarding restaurant staff. As someone who has worked in customer service, this place doesn't even deserve one star. The service is horrible. There were at least 12 staff on the clock (likely more) but almost no tables were clean, and actually getting *service* was scarce. I have never seen so many workers ~not working~. I kept telling my lunch mate that i wished we would see a manager so we could ask them what the actual sh*t is going on in this restaurant. All of the tables around us had dirty dishes piled up (see pictures). We could see all of the servers going into the back and NEVER COMING OUT. Or, my favorite, when they would stand in a group chit chatting while people from their tables, having not seen them for a while, walked up to them to ask for various things. We watched one customer stand near where the servers came out of just so she could catch one to ask for a box, then later a bag, then even later the check!!! We should have taken all of this as a sign. Our server brought us the wrong food, upon telling him it wasn't right, he gaslit us and said "no, thats just how it looks." ????? the crack in cracker barrel must mean ur on crack to think two very different dishes are the same thing????? After he gaslit us, we almost left without paying because of how utterly FLOORED we were. We had to go get a menu (which was like pulling teeth because the hostess would not pause her conversation with another worker to assist me) just to make sure we weren't crazy. When the waiter finally did come back (30 mins later) we showed him what we wanted vs what he gave us. I guess he understood then because he offered to make us the right thing. (Another 45 minute wait for the right food). As we waited.... Three other tables around us were seated. One left because they never got DRINK ORDERS. The other wanted to be seated by a window, which the new hostess declined saying "the wait staff wont go back there"... even though other tables were seated back there..... i told them "this is only the beginning, strap in" A waiter later moved them to the table they wanted, which upset another worker (who we hadn't ever seen leave the back). The workers would do this fun thing where they would talk to each other from across the rooms, it was insane. THEN THE LIGHTS. One staff member kept turning up the lights bc the restaurant was SUPER dim. The hostess kept coming and turning them back down. We were like ?????? If anyone has epilepsy in here, RIP?????? Then the staff member went turn them BACK UP. And you guessed it, hostess man came over to turn them back down............ is this a fever dream!? Horrible place. I was seated immediately by a hostess. My server Kennedy was "on it", she was polite, quick, knew the answers to all of my questions, made suggestions which were perfect for me and she was very kind. My food was hot and exactly what I ordered. Loaded mashed potatoes, oh yes they were good ! Chicken tenders, a lot of them, I was shocked ! They were very good, and enough for lunch the next day, side salad was BIG and fresh. I checked out with Suzanne and met the manager too, also two very kind ladies. Husband and I stopped off the interstate for some lunch. Weary travelers are always in need of some delicious comfort food. We were told our wait would be about 15 mins, but even though it was packed, they had us seated in less than 10. A hostess came by not long after and said "we are a little backed up in terms of service, so can I start y'all off with a drink?" And poured us teas then and there. I thought that was very considerate. Service did take quite a long time to get to us. We waited for about 15 minutes before our assigned waitress came up to us. But it was worth the wait, because she was very very nice. I wish I remembered her name, it was a unique one, and she was fantastic. If you get her, you'll know; she calls you endearing names like "sweetie" and "honey pie" and is always smiling! She was definitely overworked-I have the feeling they might have been a bit understaffed when we were there, and it was a big traveling day for a lot of people-but she took great care of us, even if it wasn't as fast as most people expect. I had the chicken and dumplings dinner with sides of green beans and fried apples, and everything was hot and fresh. You can hardly ever go wrong with those southern staples, and it's no secret why their dumplings are so popular-they're so soft and satisfying to eat! My husband had the Saturday Chicken N Rice special plate with a side of Mac and cheese and green beans. The mushroom sauce that comes with this dish is very tasty and nicely complimentary to the seasoned rice that comes on the side. Our waitress even brought us to-go teas at the end, and asked how everything was. She was truly great! Most chain restaurants like this have very mixed reviews, and this one is no exception. I can only assume that there are some serious staffing issues going on here. 1.5 hours and still no food. Only 9 tables were occupied but we stayed due to a 90 year old in our party who needed to eat. Didn't have a server assigned to our table. The waitress told us after she brought drinks that she wasn't going to be waiting on us, but after 30 minutes, no one ever came. No tables were being cleaned off as they left, just left there being dirty. Only bright spot was our very apologetic waiter. We waited at the host stand for 30+ minutes just to get to the hostess. Once seated, it was around 20 minutes for the waitress to come. Around an hour later we got our food. My chicken sandwich just oozed whatever the liquid is shown in the picture but we had been traveling for so long and the server almost never came to our table to ask for a new one that I tried or eat it. The 8 fries they gave me were okay. The server maybe came to the table a total of three times. We were there for at least 1.5 hrs between everything. When we went to pay there was no one at the registers even with a LONG line. Thankfully we were able to pay online by scanning a QR code. This was the grandkids pick for dinner tonight. Let me just say, the food is far from what it use to be. We were very disappointed. We have eaten breakfast recently and it's still a plus, but tonight, the Country Fried Steak tasted like a tv dinner, hot chocolate was so watered down that I sent it back, & no ranch dressing; however, the wait staff was busting their tails and all were very friendly and accommodating. One thing that remains the same is the atmosphere. The fireplace and the beautiful Christmas tree gave off such a good vibe. Went here after a long morning at ULL. We went to be seated, with plenty of tables open, and the hostess puts us not even a foot away from two other tables on each side. No arm room, no leg room, and just all around a not good spot to have a table. We asked to move to a different table, and the hostess tried moving us to an exact same situation with the same table set up, once again with people on each side. The meatloaf tasted great although a little soft but it was ok. Mac n cheese was the bomb! But the chicken and dumplings wasn't even cooked all the way. The chicken was pink and I was told by the manager herself that's just the way it looks and that it WAS cooked. Waiter comes back and says they are out of chicken. I was then told I could substitute it. So I chose country fried steak. "Oh we are out of that too." So I then chose the sirloin tips. About 3or 4 mins later our waiter comes back with chicken and dumplings and says they weren't out after all. Y'all this was the same dish I sent back. I saw my fork marks where I had separated the chicken. Apparently they just heated it up in the microwave because the bowl was steaming hot.
