Fish Fry Day with tarter sauce
Rah D.

I am from New York. We do not have Cracker Barrel there. Every trip to South Carolina, I look forward to atleast one visit to Cracker Barrel. There have been some changes in the menu and I see they now serve alcohol. Something else different this latest visit was service. I arrived on a Friday afternoon. There wasn't a wait and we were seated right away. Once seated, a server came to tell us our server has four tables and she is helping. Her name was Heather or Helen (sorry...trying to recall). She was very pleasant and personable. We were not ready to order. She said she would return. She came back and said, "Let me at least get you drinks". We ordered drinks and our meal with her. She took her time to answer questions and presented with smiles, being warm and helpful. Our actual server Selin came with out drinks. What a difference. She never introduced herself and was a lot less personable. "Here are your drinks". The silverware I was given was not clean. I asked for a replacement. She returned about 10 minutes later with our meals. No silverware. I patiently waited as she disappeared in the back. She returned. Walked towards our table, turned left and gave the table next to us meals and served a beverage to the table in front of them. Never returning to give me silverware, although I had a full meal in front of me. I had to physically get, walk to to the front and retrieve it myself. Let's discuss the meals. I ordered fried fish, mac and cheese, loaded sweet potato and cole slaw. I received meal minus the mac and cheese. The other table guest ordered a full vegetarian meal. It was dumplings, carrots, loaded sweet potato and a salad. Mind you, the waitress was told "I do not eat meat" by the patron, yet the salad came topped with bacon????!!!! Now, back to Selin. SHE NEVER CAME TO CHECK ON US. NEVER OFFERED TO REFILL OUR DRINKS. I even put my empty glass at the edge of our table to drop a hint. She came out to service tables around us, but not once saw to us after dropping the plates. She asked the other tables if they wanted anything else. Inquired if they wanted more to drink and so on. Oh...dropping the plates....let's talk about that. I ordered fries at the beginning of our meal. It took us maybe 15 to 20 minutes to eat while casually chatting. The order of fries came out AFTER our meals were complete. What fryer takes 20 minutes? She walked up fast, dropped the plate of fries at a high rate and kept walking. I think if she could have thrown it, she would. There wasn't any ketchup on our table. Of course me and the patron had to search and retrieve that as well. When we initially sat, we discussed getting dessert as well. I am sure dessert would have incorporated coffee as well. After our treatment, we didn't want to give Cracker Barrel another dollar or minute. A clear example where simple customer service would have equaled more revenue. Now the icing on the cake the fact our check was riddled with errors. My fish meal comes with two sides, but I was charges for the two sides as if they were extra. The house salad that was bought out and immediately rejected due to the pork on it, was still on the receipt. On top of that, the veggie meal was charged AND the sides were charged separately. Clearly our visit was overshadowed by Selin's poor customer service, so the food became secondary and less pleasurable to eat. However, I will comment on it. My fish was light and flaky. The crust was crisp with a nice crunch. It was actually smaller portions than I expected, but it still was adequate and tasty. For the size of the fish, think of a large chicken tender. The cole slaw was to be expected from a restaurant. My loaded sweet potato was the bomb. I have a sweet tooth and that gooey marshmallow top really added to the sweetness. It also had just enough pecans to give a nice crunch. I never got my mac and cheese, so I can't review that. The biscuits are always good to . Especially nice washed down with sweet tea. And now the Sun comes from the clouds: When you visit a Cracker Barrel, you pay on your way out. We explained our situation at the register. The worker called for a manager. Chris came to assist. With very minimal explanation and with a smile, he quite gratuitously adjusted our check. He made up for the errors and for her poor service (by the way, I never told him about her service, just the billing error). His willingness to have the customer leave happy and whole means a lot. Thank you Chris. With all this said, we still left Selin a nice tip. I am very strict on not rewarding bad behavior. However in this case, I am not even sure she realizes her poor performance. I am not sure she would self reflect on why her tip was low. With Cracker Barrel's checkered past in dealing with people of color, I am hoping this is just Selin's inexperience and not a reflection of a larger issue. Either way, if you like revenue Cracker Barrel, I suggest you make that query directly to your worker.

Hashbrown Casserole Shepherd's Pie

Vibe: Late Lunch with mom & shopping Order: Kids meal (chicken tenders, Mac n cheese), hash brown casserole shepherds pie, "fried" biscuits w/apple butter, Diet Coke Food Taste: Delicious ***** Service: Excellent ***** Shopping: lots of sales***** Parking: plentiful in lot ***** I've eaten here many times, but this time was the best. Our waitress (Samantha) did an excellent job with our requests. As did the cook who accommodated our request to "open face then pan fry" our fluffy biscuits. My shepherds pie casserole with crunchy hash browns on top was delicious! They have a new $5 Takeaway deal that was a great idea we definitely had to try. If you purchase an entree, you can purchase ($5) an additional prepared dinner for later. There's 4 options to choose from for the takeaways. As you're paying/checking out (cause you need to come try the Shepherds pie before it's gone)...be sure to ask for a package of uncooked bacon. It's $15 for 2 lbs of the best thick cut bacon ever!!

They were not busy for a Friday night. The waitress brought our drinks quickly. After she took our order, we didn't see her again until the food came. Our drinks sat empty for a while. The food was hot when it came out. The vegetables were a little overcooked. It was quiet with so few customers. On a non busy night, it is a good place to go for a quick dinner. The waitress was polite but not quite as attentive as I had expected. My wife likes to look through the country store after eating. Clothing was up to 60% off. I'm sure we will be back.

Ordered drinks and asked for rolls four times... Drinks arrived just before the food and rolls arrived AFTER the food. Food is cold, I ordered a sirloin steak with onions and gravy, a loaded baked potato and salad... A PLAIN cold steak with cold french fries with a side of okra arrived. Finally a baked potato was brought out -They are out of sour cream for LOADED baked potato. I wish someone told me before I ordered. The baked potato cold to the touch doesn't melt cheese or butter. Steak ordered with onions and gravy, when gravy arrived in a bowl, no onions because "there's no sauteed onions." Drink order was slow to the point I was ready to go a gas station down the street. The restaurant is clean and quiet NOT BUSY AT ALL to justify the poor service. I sent my food back, asked them to CANCEL my order and take it off my check. My girlfriend ordered Chicken and dumplings, corn and a salad with THOUSAND ISLAND DRESSING. The order arrived WITHOUT CORN and two containers of Ranch dressing. Server said they are out of thousand island dressing. Food was room temperature. Girlfriends brother ordered Mama's breakfast with extra butter and extra syrup. The eggs and french toast were cold and was only given ONE BOTTLE OF SYRUP and one scoop of butter. Couldn't melt the butter. Spoke to the manager (Jeremy) and he apologized and said "we don't offer thousand island dressing." He also said they do "have onions to saute."

I ordered this for my husband for his dinner and he almost ate that. Now, I did do some research on the picture which was absolutely disgusting and very concerning and I would suggest strongly not eating there. I was a frequent of that establishment at least once a week if not more, but I don't care to see it ever again. With the bad service that I've always received and the missing items from our to go orders, THIS was the icing on the cake. Now I did reach out to the corporate itself and they sent me a gift card and refunded my money for that one dinner, but I had already sent a couple of emails about stuff that had already happened and never got one word about it, but this, I guess,‍ frightened them as it did us. Be very careful ordering anything that you can't see through because that critter was in his gravy. I don't care if all of their employees are brand new, that should never happen. That's not because somebody is new. That's from being nasty. I know it seems like I always post reviews, but that's what needs be seen and I'm a magnet for terrible things for some reason. FYI, I'd definitely give it a --100

Everything I had tonight was good: hot fresh biscuit, apple butter, trout, mashed potatoes with white gravy, and fresh fruit.

I decided to check Aiken out last week and made sure to stop by GGB. I really enjoy trying local…read morebeer and figured I'd swing by. All in all, I really enjoyed my visit. They have a great space with plenty of seating, both indoors and out. They have TVs throughout the brewery so watching a game there is probably pretty easy. I started with the onion rings and then went with the double smash burger and I have to say it was solid. They also have a great selection of beers which included several guest taps. My only piece of constructive criticism is that when I got my 3 growlers filled at the end of my visit (because they have good beer and I wanted to drink more later), my growlers were neither sealed nor labeled. For those that don't know, breweries usually label the growlers with beer your ordered and seal it so it doesn't leak. I've only ever run into this once before, it was in Amarillo, TX. I didn't make a fuss about it but it didn't come off as the most professional or polished in that respect. I'd really like to see them reexamine this part of their operation and possibly consider branded labels for the growlers (so that you know what you're drinking) and branded caps (their dog logo would fit perfectly and be a good way to rep the brand). Overall, I had a great visit. But I'll inquire before getting my growlers filled again.
