A great local spot to visit while in Marathon or driving through the Keys. Don't let the outside fool you; just like most restaurants and buildings for that matter, the outside can be a bit deceiving. When behind those walls there's magic happening. We came in on a Saturday and was happy to see they were still serving breakfast that late in the morning. Diane was such a great help in making food recommendations and makes a killer Bloody Mary. After many years of eyeing this place, we finally stopped in for dinner. They are dog friendly so we brought our Labrador and were seated in the back patio. Little attention has been given to the, uh, 'decor'....a lot of metal siding with electrical conduits mounted on the outside. The lighting on the back patio was dim and depressing. There's a small fountain in the middle of the patio surrounded by robust wooden fencing which overwhelms the tiny fountain. There are photos here taken of the fountain less than two years ago showing it in good, if not tacky with bright artificial colors and fake turtles, etc, condition. But this was not the fountain we were looking at.....it was disheveled, dirty and just a plain eyesore to look at. They would be wise to simply remove it and add another table. There's an opportunity here to turn this patio into an outdoor tropical oasis that you'd expect to find in the Keys. And it could be done simple and with little cost such as a splash of fresh paint with bright Caribbean colors and plants. Meanwhile, our dog was foraging under the tables were there was food scraps and discarded napkins, etc. everywhere. The service was attentive (we were one of just two tables there) We started with the Manhattan Conch Chowder (see photo) which was robust and tangy with a little overload on the tomatoes and acid. The salad was a very simple garden with just one slice of tomato, one slice of bell pepper, and one slice of cucumber.....meh. We then had the fried Captains platter (see photo) with conch, shrimp, scallops and fish. The platter was cooked well and seasoned appropriately. We don't normally eat fried food and we later paid the price for it.....the details of which I will spare you. We also had an order of onion rings (see photo)....they were OK, nothing special, but we should have stopped on the fried platter......just too much fried food, and that's on us. We're in the Keys very often and probably won't return for dinner, but might try the breakfast someday. read more

Loved this place! Food was local and unique. Service was prompt and friendly. Venue wasn't anything special, but it was clean and well tended. I got the Conch Parmesan. The rest of the family got the conch chowder, kid's pasta, coffee and other things. Some items on the menu were out, but the service staff modified things and were accommodating to make the most of what they had to offer. Everyone at my table was happy. You could hear the chef in the kitchen pounding the conch tender when someone ordered it. I loved that visceral feedback. read more

Nice little local place with local seafood fare and breakfast EVERYday, 7 days a week 8-4. I love extended breakfast times. Kinda divey by some standards, but we loved the character. Gotta love a place that has 7 different hot sauces to choose from! Worse service and I tried again one more time. 20 minutes before I got my second beer. The place was empty. The fish was good the conch balls soggy. The twice baked potato no flavor at all. A local staple since the early 80's. The staff here is great, very nice and eager to please. I love eating here. It's a strange and unique little place. Big open windows deliver the ocean breeze on warm days. Front patio has a few tables, but only a view of traffic on Overseas Highway (US-1) is available here. Theres a full bar inside of the restaurant... but there's also a bar/lounge attached to the backside, and it has a different name. Not sure why. I suggest you do what the locals say, and go here for breakfast. For lunch, however, I ordered a "Blackened Chicken Alfredo" pizza here, and was HIGHLY disappointed. The dough they use are the ready-made cardboard disks you can order in bulk, pre-packaged from the distributor. I stopped eating after the first slice, because this pizza was obviously microwaved. Stiff and chewy. The cheese tasted like plastic. Couldn't taste any Alfredo. Chicken wasn't blackened. All ingredients were sub-par. My partner ordered a Caesar salad that came out on a small plate, bland and boring. She wanted a big entree salad, but they brought her the side instead. Which is probably best because I didn't want to see the $8 version of it. Overall... a long wait for a crushing disappointment. On this day, there was minimal staff, but there were only a few occupied tables. I'm not sure why these people were so weeded and disoriented. My server only refilled our drinks once, and then I had to wait 5-10min for the check, after requesting it. My server started a fresh 6 Top *BEFORE* bringing that check to me. A different server brought me the check when I started looking impatient. He also heard me complain to the bus boy (who asked if everything was okay - where I said besides the cafeteria food...it was okay - which was me being honest, but nice too) and removed the pizza and iced tea that I ordered. Overall, we paid $5 for the side salad, and I felt liberated by that. Next time, I'll just go for breakfast and coffee... maybe. read more

This place was awesome! Great food and service! The servers had great, happy attitudes, were attentive, and very quick with service and our food. The conch chowder was delicious and on point. We had sandwiches - the blackened mahi mahi was fresh and cooked perfectly, not dry. One person had the fried conch burger - I didn't like it because it had chunks of celery in it, but everyone else loved it. The huge piece of key lime pie was out of this world delicious. I had drip coffee that was fresh brewed and actually good. (Their expensive cappuccino / espresso maker is currently broken.). There is an "outside" tiki looking area where smoking is allowed. Wow again just an amazing breakfast. We had the Western and substituted the ham for bacon and it was so good. More than enough food in our family of four got out of there for $33 before tip. Stop by you won't be disappointed. It has a really great atmosphere and even though you're on the main strip it feels like you're on the beach. Two eggs, home fries and toast is only 495. This quaint location serves breakfast all day, 7 days a week. They have a back side tropical patio that is perfect for those breakfasts with the pup. However, beware! You won't find any signs up and you'll stand there like an idiot till a customer tells you its seat yourself. That's the reason for the loss of 1 star as we waited and were passed by 2 servers before we were told by a customer. We ordered coffee and mimosas for the adults. The coffee was very smooth and delicious. The mimosas come out with the OJ in the glass and a split bottle of Zonin on the side. So technically, you can just drink the prosecco without the troublesome orange juice! Love this. Conch Benedict: Comes with 2 large pieces of conch on top of an english muffin and topped with hollandaise. It was delicious and tender. The breading was light enough to still allow for the flavor to come through. I'd have liked the spicy hollandaise from the New Orleans bene on it though! Just to give it some complexity. New Orleans Benedict: This was my favorite! You get 6 oysters fried to perfection in top of a tomato and egg and topped with hollandaise. The hollandaise on this was spicy and delicious. My husband and split both benes and this was my favorite. The oysters were fresh and exploded in your mouth. Overall, this was a great breakfast stop. They offered our pup a biscuit and a bowl of water as well! Being a conch house, the ways they prepare conch are exstensive. You MUST try it in some form if you come! I have never been a fan of this place at all. As someone who frequently goes to the keys with friends/family, there are much better places than this. Whenever someone suggests it, I strongly refuse. This place is so ugly, dirty, and has strange food. One time we were there, my cousin asked for some ranch dressing. When she got it, she noticed it was really chunky and thick and asked the waiter, "Why is it chunky?" and the waiter just said "I don't know." We didn't even use it because it was just so disgusting. It is not authentic Florida Keys food either. I seriously do not trust their food nor do I recommend this place at all. Try some other small places. Anything is better. read more

Stopped in on our way home from a weekend in Key West where we had more than a fair share of conch, deliciously prepared various ways. Upon entering, instead of a greeting we were scolded right away for not closing the door behind us. Our apologies, we didn't realize it didn't swing back on its own. The woman who scolded us, did so and walked away leaving standing there. We stood there long enough for another waitress to eventually look up from what she was doing and finally give us our seating options. After sitting, I started to look at the menu but was distracted by the many misspellings on it. It happens, I guess? But this much? The menu is actually pretty large, you don't get a spelling pass just because you are a casual diner. Yikes. This is a customer's first impression! If you close the door right, that is. Back to the food, I ordered the Conch "Fingers." I was once again scolded when I asked how many come per order. "It's a handful, not fingers," said the waitress. As in "did you not get the conch finger memo? How can you not know?" I say this because she repeated herself twice while pursing her lips. Ok then...I'm guessing she might get that question a lot? Perhaps change the wording on the menu, if so? While we waited for the food, I went to the bathroom. On the way there, I noticed the dirty floor. Predictably, the bathroom wasn't in great shape either. Mainly, the smell was just unbearable. My girlfriend took a pass and didn't even go. I have a theory about the direct relationship between a restaurant bathroom and what its kitchen must be like. At that point, I didn't want to think about what that meant at this place... The food, well, was way below average. My conch "fingers" actually had an OK fried exterior (the breading was nicely seasoned), but the conch inside was chewy. My friend had requested hers be lightly fried, but our very "friendly" waitress said they could not accommodate that. They fry it how they fry it, end of story. We saw this place mentioned on a good review show on the hotel information channel. We were in Key West so we weren't sure we would drive that far. I am sure glad we did! Since the review show said this place was number 1 for conch, we got the conch basket (they were nice enough to let us get 1/2 fries and 1/2 onion rings). Now I have a better idea what conch tastes like. When you get a conch fritter the taste is too disguised, the conch basket had an abundance of lightly breaded conch strips. They were great. I would describe it as a cross between clam an calamari. They really pound the heck out of the conch so it was not tough or chewy. We decided we needed to test the Key Lime pie as well. If you remember the 80s TV series Al's diner this is pretty much what you would get. Very homey feel down to earth waitresses makes you feel like a part of their family. I ordered the conch of conch Chowder surprisingly it was very good ! not overpowering as far as the taste of the actual chowder would be concerned definitely plenty of chunk of conch and you can taste the fresh of the conch. You can truly see you once you have your first one for that it's a homemade recipe. My next meal was the blackened fresh fish melt with sautéed mushrooms the Sandwich was a bit overpowering and it was due to the bread selection. on a scale of one through five I would rate the sandwich at a two maybe the blackened seasoning made it a little too salty. So in closing if you're in the mood for decent home cooking and grate service come on over you will be treated like one of the Family. While on vacation we needed a breakfast place other than IHOP. A local recommended the Cracked Conch Cafe. We loved it!! Our group ate, yummy fresh scrambled and over easy eggs, the omelettes , home made biscuits, bacon and sausage was great, home fries were amazing!! Everything we ate was great. The staff was pleasant, they were busy but not rude like other comments said. The Ambiance is the typical Florida country cafe/diner. My parents would drive all the way from west palm to come to marathon for a day trip to hang out and this was always a stop for them to hit. Last year when I drove through key west I tried to stop here but they were to busy to help me over the phone. So i missed it last year, this year I stayed in marathon so I HAD to go. I got the cracked conch platter with onion rings and a key lime pie. The conch did NOT disappoint it was soooooooo freaking good. The conch platter comes with side of onion rings or fries and a soup or salad. I got the conch chowder soup. WOW soooo good. Everything was sooo good. If you like quaint, old school, low budget decorations and atmosphere, you may enjoy this place. The food is ok, but prices are as high as places that offer a better experience. Our ribs were overdone - probably reheated more than once. Bacon wrapped scallops were good, as was the reasonable serving of cole slaw as a side. Twice baked potato was pretty tiny. Drinks were decent. Service was ok, but our server may have been a bit new, as he couldn't answer a few of our questions about what they offer. Note that the staff are very casual - tshirts and gym shorts are the norm - and the building and interior are tired and worn. We didn't try any of the conch items, but there are plenty of menu choices besides conch. It's conveniently located right on the main coastal highway. Great side of the road diner dive. We stopped here after my wife saw some reviews about their cold beer and great pounded Conch. Needless to say I had them both. The draft beer hit the spot after siting on the 7 mile bridge for 30 minutes. The Conch parmigiana was awsome. Tender and delicious. Our waitress Pat was great.
