Came across this place without looking at reviews. Has the seafood chowder and the seafood medley. Pretty filling and tastes great. The chowder was a nice broth and not too creamy. The medley had two crab claws, two shrimp (gambas as they are called here) and a scallop. The scallop was my final bite and it tasted amazing and fresh. Definitely a spot to check out. read more

Just came here for dinner on a lovely day with the family, we got the spicy barbecue chicken wings for starters. Let's say they weren't bad but not the best, I wouldn't get them again though but the dip was good. I tried the soup of the day which was delicious. I had the beef burger with cheese. It's a nice place, and the staff is friendly. I just wasn't very impressed with the food. Got the classic fish and chips for €15, and the portion wasn't all that large. That said, it did fill me right up, though not in a good way. Felt a bit off, maybe because it was a bit greasy. But perhaps that's just the nature of fish and chips. They asked if I wanted tea or coffee and I opted for tea. They ended up bringing out a whole little pot that would have easily provided full mugs for two people. I'm not quite sure why this place doesn't have better reviews because it has quite honestly been one of the best meals I've had in Europe so far! We had about 40 minutes to eat before our transportation was leaving so we ran in, asked our server what we could eat in such a short amount of time and he recommended the seafood chowder, the fish and chips and the seafood medley. Take my word for it when I say order all three of these options and you're going to be a happier person. We ordered three chowders, one fish and chips and 1 seafood medley for a total of three people. The seafood chowder is small enough that it's more of an appetizer than a full entree. However, it's incredible. I'm still thinking about it!! The fish and chips were crispy, golden and delicious. The tartar sauce was out of this world and I loved the pea sauce that came with it as well. The seafood medley was a smaller dish but it did not disappoint at all! I have no idea what sauce the seafood was cooked in, but we sopped up every last bit with the delicious bread that came with the chowder. Our waiter (wish I would have gotten his name) was wonderful and even sent us home with some bread and butter for the drive back! We were very impressed by the service and the food and will happily send more customers their way. read more

Fishy lunch Such a nice place where to relax and recover after the howth summit walk! The restaurant staff welcomed us politely and informally but the best part of course was the food! Lovely sunny day today. We just arrived to Howth and decided to stay for lunch in Crabby Jo's place. We sat outside , got menus and nothing ! 20 minutes and nothing !! 5 different members of staff was passing us by and nobody even asked have we been served, no interest at all ! Service wise below 0. Food wise, we didn't have a chance to try as nobody semed to care to serve us. Pitty as I think its nice place and food looks good. Staff need a glassaes tho to notice costumers. read more

Crabby Joe's, Howth, Co. Dublin I headed to a fish restaurant known as Crabby Jo's. I was most impressed with the waitress service. Top notch. However I didn't care for too much to be waiting for 20mins for a table inside. So my Folks and myself, made do with Outdoor seating. Now considering we were at a Fish restaurant, it was v cold. No heating was provided. Flies, I've never seen the likes of it. Everywhere u turned. You had to keep an eye on your food to make sure they wouldn't fall into the food. We were situated underneath flower hanging baskets. They should have been covered. Getting to the actual food in question, me being a vegetarian, I was impressed with what they had to offer. Now I'm sure they had other items of interest for vegetarians. I just didn't get a chance properly to look. So I chose Hummus for Starters and Linguinei Pasta. The Hummus in question was extraordinary beautiful. Totally enjoyed every moment of it. However as it was my first time eating hummus(I'm a newbie Veggie for almost 2 years now), My mom told me the norm with hummus. The Hummus came with Raw Veg(carrots, Celery) and Peppers. I didn't mind Peppers. Oh and it also came with bread of some form, possibly Naan. I enjoyed the bread and Peppers. But the Raw veg, I didn't care for them. Expectedly, they were hard. I was told to use Hummus as a dip. I just gollaped it down like a soup or something. It was lovely. Spreadable over the bread. mmmmm. Then shortly afterwards, we didn't really have to wait too long, considering they were mad busy(hence why we couldn't get a seat inside), our Main dishes arrived. I got the Linguine Pasta. Once again, amazed by the wonderful Pasta dish. I can't really fault the dish. Twas beautifully presented. Price in total for 3 was around the €60 mark. That's about €20 per person. So not too bad a price. Considering we were treated like royalty, well as far as the waitress manners were concerned. So overall Food Delicious, Outdoor seating CRAP. read more

We were on a tour and stopped here for lunch. Was very disappointed in the place. Coming from Seattle I know good fish and chips and this was not it. We were on a time limit so we ordered from the take out window. While my husband wait for the our food I grabbed a table only to Be told unless we ordered from inside we could not sit there. All they had for the take away window was a small table you could stand at. I grabbed a cup, napkins and flat for us only to have it taken away because we did not order from the inside dinning room. The fish was greasy and bland. I only ate 1/2 of mine then tossed the rest in the garbage. We were given no plastic ware, napkins, ketchup or tarter sauce. Pros-wifi and good food Cons- everything else.... Larry N left a review that was extremely accurate to what we experienced during dinner at Crabby Jo's. We visited the restaurant when walking by and saw that they served fish n chips. Something i had been craving for a while. We walked in and right off the bat were off to a bad start. The waitress actually had to ask the manager on shift if she could seat us for dinner at 1830. What I thought to be a normal time for dinner. And there was only two other tables seated at this time. Waitress was extremely nice and sat us after the manager gave the ok. We waited the usual 5 minutes or so for her to take our drink order which we got a couple of minutes later. We then ask for a few more minutes to decide what to order as we chose to skip the starter menu. After a few minutes our waitress returned and we asked about the Warm Seafood Platter. We asked how much food it would be as my and my date were extremely hungry after walking around for hours. The waitress explained that it was plenty for two people. We ordered it with 2 sides of chips. We sound huge but really aren't . Anyways after about 20 minutes the food finally arrives at our table. The problem as I'm sure you can guess was that the food was not what we had ordered. What came was the Warm Seafood Salad for each of us. We of course did not know at first, but my date asked to be reminded what we had ordered when we learned a mistake had taken place with our order. The plates were taken from the table and a new order was placed. But no one came to the table to apologize for the confusion whatsoever. this is rude where I come from. Me and my date sit at the table in short conversation surrounding the situation and ultimately wait another 20 minutes for the food to arrive. I realize that I have no fork as it was taken with the salad and kindly put my hand up to get our waitresses attention. I ask for a fork and she of course says she will bring one right out. After watching her run off to the kitchen to grab what I thought was a fork for me, she returns with another tables check. No fork. I ask my date to reach over and just grab one off the other table. Hind sight I should have asked my date and not our waitress? Either way our waitress would not return to our table unless we either physically reached out to her or was able to make that eye contact that is sometimes required. At this point we have been at the restaurant for about an hour and are now eating. Food is really good. The seafood is very fresh indeed and it was served on a giant plate. It was exactly how we would like our seafood to be. Delicious and I give the chef 4 out of 5 stars for his work. I dock a star because the fries were shit. We finish eating and have not seen our waitress the entire meal. Some would consider this a good thing. I don't. Mostly because I see her running around not taking care of tables other than to seat them. For a little while I thought she may be just a hostess, but no she is indeed a waitress. The other waiters and waitresses are all tending their tables just fine so maybe you will get lucky. I wish I looked at the girls name so I could give it to you, but I did not. After we are done we waited 20 more minYes for the plates to be taken away by a different waiter. Now it's time for dessert. No waitress. We don't even see her at this point and try to get the other waiters attention who is busy helping his tables. Finally we see our girl and wave her down. We ask for a check. She happily says ok and that she will bring it right over. This does not happen. We got lost in our phones for a bit because there is free wifi which is good. After 20 minutes we realize that the check did not come and I get the mangers attention. I explained everything that happened from start to finish and she blamed the staffs behavior on the lunch rush they were "bouncing back from". It's literally about 2025 so lunch has been over for a long ass time. She looks as if she wants to cry a little and tells us that she will get our ticket right away. She comped us a water and a diet coke. Thank you so much. We needed up paying over 50€ for this shit. read more

Arrived on spec, few minutes fir table for 4, down to the small bar for us with menus to have a drink and wait. table was already avl there and nobody arrived after us, so I don't know why we weren't just seated..maybe I'm getting too suspicious in my old age. Entrance is nice but half empty fridges with piles of desserts needs a big of jazzing up. Menu looked great and plenty choice. Shared 2 starters of mussels & calamari.both great. Brown bread to table was excellent. I had 8oz fillet with prawns & Bernaise.chips fab, steak excellent (crispy crust), great big portion, I was starving so good.. wife's seafood linguine looked great, but she said tomato sauce was a bit flavorless, had to add salt & pepper..she says maybe she should have ordered a different sauce (white wine) but she was slightly let down. Kids had great fish & chips, looked fab & they wolfed it. Waitress was v competent (red haired girl)..sound with kids and engaged with table. Do not order the lobster. It was tough and obviously frozen for months. Really just don't order the "whole" lobster. It tasted and looked like it sat in the freezer for several months. Everything else was average. The "Dublin shrimp" was small longastinos in a butter cup. Not recommended. Myself and my good lady had lunch here on Tuesday last, we found the place to be quite cheery and the staff were helpful and friendly.We both had a glass of wine with our meal for me the bordeaux red and herself had a nice rose.We both had the daily special which was hake and potato with langoustines and olives and cherry tomatoes. The meal was lovely, the only drawback was the langoustines which were few and small with very little to eat inside.For desert we both had roulade, mine was the caramel and hers the raspberry, the deserts were huge and to die for, really excellent. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience eating here, pricewise it is a little pricy if not going for specials but you will enjoy the food and ambience very much. read more

Crabby Joe is ok but it's not the best fish restaurant on the pier. The chowder was nice, but i recommend the one in the Oar House which is definitely flavoursome. I chose Linguini with mussels in tomato sauce and was not too impressed: the tomato tasted like it came from a tin, the linguini were soggy and ovecooked, and though the seafood that came with it was plentyful and nice, it really shows the chef doesn't know much about nice pasta. I've been to Italy, and tasted some amazing pasta there. This is really not good pasta. The whole plate was way too big to finish, while my boyfriend had too little in his: just 4 scallops and black pudding, no accompaniment. The staff is nice, however i'll just keep going elsewhere. read more
