Amazing! We had two adults and one tween, and we all loved it! We shared loads of small plates, which is recommended. The food came quite quickly, which was good because we were hungry. The staff were friendly, and where we were sitting was amazing. We walked in, and we pre-booked, and as soon as we walked in we knew it was good. A definite 5/5. Mimosa is gorgeous! The staff are friendly and the restaurant itself is really cute, great lighting (which I have weird appreciation for) and lots of cosy seating! The food is really the winner here though. There's a great selection, some of my favourites include the goats cheese & pear (Oh Lord!!), the prawns and chorizo, and the pulled pork with apple chutney. 2/3 tapas per person are more than enough. They also have an extensive, reasonably priced wine list. If you come with a group of six or more people the group choose around six tapas and they bring out a number of portions of each. Amazing place. Been twice this week. Great, fun vibe from all staff and laughter all over the place. Smart casual upwards. Look out for the famous 'Toblerone cheesecake'. €6 or so per tapas plate to share. I'd say get 4-6 per couple.. Sangria is a great buy for 2 people at €15 for a jug. But don't dare eat so much you miss the desserts! :) read more

You know with all this recession crapola going on and how everyone is scraping for pennies and can't go out sometimes cos they are *trying* to get enough pennies saved to *maybe* (like) do a holiday this year? .. or, like, maybe, emmm, if they save really hard and the government hasn't raped us totally, well, at least get in one nice wee trip to the Med before their grandchildren come along? ... or they die? FORGET IT!! .. the recession ends the moment you walk into this wonderful place my little Yelplets! You don't have to go to the Med to get the wonderful flavour of the place - its on our doorstep, and its called the Mimosa Wine Bar in Carlow. This wonderful little gem is not only hidden away on a side-street (off a side street) but to confuse matters (and add to the general ambiance) is snugly positioned right inside its very own courtyard - how cool does it get! (way cooler actually...) This intimate wine-bar has an amazing array of Tapas, freshly prepared and superbly presented. It's the coolest hangout I have been to in a long time - once you sit, you want to just stay, listen to the music, enjoy the wine (very nice selection, reasonably priced) and order more, and more Tapas... Now this isn't Dublin Dorothy, so the prices are fantastic - one Tapa platter is €5, making it the most reasonable evening out I've had with a friend in a long time. Know what? ... if you don't have a shekel in your pocket right now, turn up your speakers, toddle along to the website and prepare to get your Latin Dancing shoes on ... it makes me wanna salsa.... (shuffle shuffle... spin, 1,2,3,..6,..,8..)... It'll make you happy, trust me... "It is not really, Boss-a-nooova, but we think that, yooou, will dig this...." First time here a few weeks ago, I love the decor, it's definitely the hidden gem of Carlow!! Wouldn't think it was so kitsch and cute from outside, or as big. Gorgeous menu!! I loved the fried risotto balls along with basically everything else I had a taste of that night. Great prices too and amazing wine selection. OMG that strawberry and marshmallow dessert with the coconut ice cream wow!!! And I'm usually never a dessert person. Some of the food is nice and other is bad. I'm not sure if it depends on the chef or just the different dishes. The Chilean Cabernet is very good, €20/bottle, I forgot the name. There are some servers that are great and some that are just a joke. The owner is quite rude at times, so if you steer clear you'll be fine. The place is very nice inside and they have cool music on Sundays, like a Latin jazz vibe. The ambiance in the place is excellent. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent! Went here over xmas on a Monday. No problem with getting s table as we were early but it filled up quickly. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. We ordered 3 tapas each which was more than enough. The sweet potato with chorizo and the goats cheese with Apple were amazing. The prawns were also really good. so, sooooo oooooh good and so worth to wait for. The restaurant is not taking reservations (some latest annoying trend) but you can wait for your table in a "waiting area". Hones waitress with some sober sense of thinking told us that the waiting time could be 20, 30 or 60 minutes, and fair played, I don't like to be told that the table "might be"soon" etc. Coming back to the food. Wooow. So nice! It's a tapas style food that I really like because you don't limit yourself to one dish, and you can try few things at the same time. Good timing, dishes were served in some logical order, we had kangaroo ( RIP poor animal) steak which was nothing different than filet mignon but heads up cos it was cooked to perfection. Went to mimosa for an early dinner. I wasn't sure if it would be suitable for my 4 year old but he LOVED it. The staff were polite and friendly, which is a plus for Carlow. Supposed to be a hidden gem of Carlow town.. definitely not. Myself and my partner went for valentines and they really went with the cheapest dishes for their set menu which was €50 per couple, so 5 dishes for €50. €10 a dish including an alcoholic drink. Seems ok but wasn't impressed with the food or the service. It's like they knew they were getting your money anyways so they weren't going to be inviting or chatty, just throw the food down on the table and leave. Great atmosphere and really grrreat tapas. Excellent selection of wines, beers and some interesting cocktails. I highly recommend for a romantic night out and equally for group bookings. Plenty of space yet an intimate feel. read more

If you're in Carlow this is a must visit. Great design, very well priced, great staff and atmosphere every night.

I would say it's more of a tapas bar than a wine bar but they do have a good selection of wine and change the menu with some regularity. It's fairly reasonably priced too with a good meal for two being around €30 a head including drinks. A couple of tips - order the food slowly - you can get filled up quite quickly and end up with plates of food still being brought out to the table. Also look out for their early bird deals and you can usually get everything in €20 per head! read more
