    The calamari

Wonderful meal. The calamari was excellent and the presentation made it all the more appealling. The main course (hake) was exquisite). Lovely crisp vegatables, salsa and potatoes. Great meal in a lovely setting

Absolutely stunning restaurant and bar! The best restaurant and food. The food and service are amazing. The Tiramisu Martini is awesome taste almost like an espresso martini except better. We have the daily special which was the chicken pot pie and oh was it good! AndKilkenny is a gorgeous little town but this restaurant is a must!

Fabulous! 1. Decor and ambiance simply perfect 2. We ordered their special walnut orange old fashioned and it was so tasty and easy to drink 3. Dinner- We ordered from their early bird 3 course dinner and everything was perfect... so tasty and good portions. 4. The best part was their service. The bar tender and all wait staff were top notch

Bad times at what you would expect to be a five star (excuse the pun) dining experience. We arrived here as a group of 11 while on a lunch break from a fantastic seminar held by the Crafts Council. We were split into two seating areas, which was fine as we were such a large group. Immediately after checking the menu, I noticed there were no vegan options. As I'm gluten intolerant, I asked the waiter if he could check if there were any vegan and gluten free options, to which he said he would. He arrived back and told me I could get the salad, without the goats cheese, and without the barley, the only two main components in the actual salad besides lettuce itself. The waiter was quite rude and dismissive to myself and the other two people who also required a vegetarian option and for whatever reason couldn't have goats cheese or mushrooms due to allergies or dislikes. While everyone else at my table had full courses for their lunch, I had a small portion of chips as it was all I could actually have. It was a horrible and fairly uncomfortable experience in somewhere that should have been accommodating to dietary needs that are so common these days. I will not be returning.

Fine Lamb Shank, Wonderful Sandwiches, Convenient to Castle I stopped into the restaurant for lunch with friends, interested in one of the specials which was the lamb shank. Three of us ordered it and the consensus was it was a good choice. There was a nice portion of meat complemented with mashed potatoes, peas and what I thought was a mint sauce but tasted more like a beef broth. An included small side of shepherds pie was also very good with a nice meat flavor. The fourth entrée was the Croque Madam sandwich that was a pleasant surprise. It was a basic ham and cheese sandwich covered in mornay sauce that made it taste like cheesy French toast, topped with an egg. It had a wonderful flavor and was a large portion, that was it a good alternative to the lamb shank. Both were great choices I'd repeat.

Fantastic restaurant! We opted for the early bird fixed price menu and were not disappointed. The food was great with perfect presentation to match the great flavors. Service was great and the atmosphere was upbeat and classy. It may be a touch loud for a romantic dinner but well worth a visit while in town.

We stayed in four different cities, and traveled to many more, had lunch or dinner in a variety of pubs, and most, if they had music, were playing 2000's American pop hit junk. Some of those other pubs did have live music schedules for later evening, but we were trying to get our pub experiences at lunch and then 6p-9p range each day so we could get to sleep for the next day's exploring. It's also really nice that this pub is along the water (the river through Kilkenny) and some of the seating overlooks it via window, including open windows if you like. The kitchen closes early here, even on Fridays; 8pm during our June 2026 visit, so plan around that if you are intending to get dinner. Food-wise: * Really enjoyed the beef stew; good price no complaints. * Margherita pizza is great * Caprese Salad is not expensive but pretty mediocre * Seafood Chowder was very good * Tortellini was fine for Ireland Take all the above in context with the overall Irish food scene, which is mostly average at best. These feelings are based on seven days of eating around the country, so when I'm saying the beef stew was really good, that's compared to the rest of Ireland where I had one I liked more and a few others that were not good at all. Drink pricing is on par with other tourist cities; not bad. As with most pubs, beer and liquor selection is limited outside of the extensive Irish Whiskey options. For example, two rums, one bourbon, beers were what we encountered everywhere and no deviation. Service was similar to the rest of Ireland; initial order taking and then you have to flag someone down for anything after that.

We got in and snagged a table in the perfect location. We started off with food. The fish and chips were amazing. The fish wasn't too breaded or oily. The piece of fish was huge! The fresh green onions and homemade tater sauce elevated the dish. We stayed at the pub until Irish music started, which was so good! Hearing the tin whistle, guitar, and beautiful Irish singing was such a treat. We enjoyed a handful of cocktails and Guinness! Very enjoyable night!

Ordered our pints at the bar and got lunch as well. Hubby had the vegetable soup and I had the seafood chowder and toastie combo. The chowder was thick and had plenty of salmon and the like. Huge bowl! The toastie was done just right with ham and tomato on toasted bread. Yum! And compared to other places to eat, this was more reasonable. There are outdoor tables to enjoy lunch in nice weather. Great place for a pint and lunch !

The gentlemen playing in my photo were brilliant musicians and very entertaining. The place was packed to the gills and we stood for about an hour of their session until seats up front opened up. The crowd was wonderful, singing along to favorites and raising glasses high. I don't think there was a face in the place that wasn't wearing a smile. There was no waitstaff that I noticed, but service was pleasant and fast at the bar. There are tables, high tops, and spots at the bar. Do go here! Enjoy the music! And have a pint or cocktail or two. :)
