My husband and I stumbled onto this place after shopping a few doors down . Kilkenny artisans I think. Anyway the elegant very French atmosphere was very welcoming and relaxing . Our waiter was gracious and very young . The menu is diverse . The homemade breads as a starter are excellent and am asking for more right now ! Omg the Camembert cheese appetizer melts in your mouth. The trickle bread is obscene made here in the cafe. My husband's Mushroom garlic soup is above average -good not outstanding. The coquille st Jacques was excellent. The savory sauce did not overwhelm the scallops or shrimp. It was a night for some delicious steaks this seemed like a place that could deliver. Beautiful interior that felt luxurious in a very relaxed way. The steaks were from local Irish beef and absolutely delicious. 3 of 4 in our party ordered a steak and all were impressed. The service was exemplary. Prices were very fair. We had an amazing dining experience from the greeting by the staff as we walked in -- to the unique setting and the delicious meals we had. It was our first time there but it all made us feel like we were regulars. The food was spectacular, from appetizers to entrees to deserts -- each dish had a variety of flavors and textures. Probably the best meal we had during our trip to Kilkenny. Located right beside Kilkenny Castle, this restaurant is part of the Left Bank bar next door and adjoining Louie's Cafe (which is also excellent). We needed to change our reservation at the last minute and the staff were extremely accommodating. In terms of food we tried the duck liver pate, mushroom and garlic soup and the steak, all of which were excellent. The scallop and prawn dish was especially tasty. Desserts included a delicious blackberry and apple crumble with crème anglaise which was out of this world. While not cheap by any means, you can certainly tell that a lot of care and attention went into the service, food, decor and ambiance. Will certainly be returning! read more

We had dinner here after visiting Kilkenny Castle. It's a rather nice restaurant, but a little dim. Too dim to read the menu properly so I used the flashlight on my phone. Service was good but our drink orders were slow to arrive. I had the calamari salad to start and the 14 hour pork belly as my main. All of it was delicious. Everything looked like a piece of art. When it was time to pay, the server couldn't find our bill. That took awhile. And when we wanted to pay with credit card, she had to get the manager to run the card. So it took awhile to pay. The ambiance is rather noisy, even during early dinner. And I was annoyed by how dim it was and having to use my flashlight just to read the menu and wine list. I'm guessing that not many of their diners have poor vision like me. read more

Love this place. We arrived late for our booking and the staff were still friendly and welcoming. We had to wait for a new table and we kept ourselves busy with the amazing cocktail menu. Bad times at what you would expect to be a five star (excuse the pun) dining experience. We arrived here as a group of 11 while on a lunch break from a fantastic seminar held by the Crafts Council. We were split into two seating areas, which was fine as we were such a large group. Immediately after checking the menu, I noticed there were no vegan options. As I'm gluten intolerant, I asked the waiter if he could check if there were any vegan and gluten free options, to which he said he would. He arrived back and told me I could get the salad, without the goats cheese, and without the barley, the only two main components in the actual salad besides lettuce itself. The waiter was quite rude and dismissive to myself and the other two people who also required a vegetarian option and for whatever reason couldn't have goats cheese or mushrooms due to allergies or dislikes. While everyone else at my table had full courses for their lunch, I had a small portion of chips as it was all I could actually have. It was a horrible and fairly uncomfortable experience in somewhere that should have been accommodating to dietary needs that are so common these days. I will not be returning. read more

Fine Lamb Shank, Wonderful Sandwiches, Convenient to Castle I stopped into the restaurant for lunch with friends, interested in one of the specials which was the lamb shank. Three of us ordered it and the consensus was it was a good choice. There was a nice portion of meat complemented with mashed potatoes, peas and what I thought was a mint sauce but tasted more like a beef broth. An included small side of shepherds pie was also very good with a nice meat flavor. The fourth entrée was the Croque Madam sandwich that was a pleasant surprise. It was a basic ham and cheese sandwich covered in mornay sauce that made it taste like cheesy French toast, topped with an egg. It had a wonderful flavor and was a large portion, that was it a good alternative to the lamb shank. Both were great choices I'd repeat. read more

Myself and a few friends popped in here over christmas to get out of the rain while mother nature was trying really hard to drown the city of Kilkenny. Everyone here was super nice, friendly, and service was very prompt. The restaurant was slow while we were there (which I find normally means your service is about to be crap), but the service was still quite good. The inside of the building is also decorated really nicely and gives it a nice cosy feel. And being across the street from Kilkenny Castle, is a great spot to sit down and relax after walking around and seeing town. read more

I had an Irish Asparagus Salad that I loved. My wife had a very fine fish and chips that I had to help with... It came with garden fresh peas, whole ones mixed into a fresh purée, very springlike. She finished with a memorable parfait of fresh new strawberries and white chocolate mousse. I much enjoyed a special Jameson cask reserve whiskey aged in Franciscan stout kegs. read more

The croque Monsieur sand which was top notch, probably best I've ever had. Only issue was service. It seemed like we were between shifts or something. Our original server went missing in action, and we had to figure out who was finishing up the service. Staff was very friendly, but sort of dropped the ball halfway through.
