    Pasta chicken dish

Really delicious food and yummy beer. I was blown away by the pesto baguette. It was just a very nicely balanced sandwich, nothing was too overpowering on it. The bread was soft with a slightly crunchy crust, seemed really fresh. The chicken pasta dish was good as well, but the sauce was a little more tangy than I was expecting. Service was friendly and the waitress made great suggestions. Definitely worth a visit.

This place didn't look like much from the outside but it was much bigger on the inside. I ordered a Sithwicks and a Sheppard's Pie (which I've had many times having lived in England) and it was THE BEST one I'd ever had. See the pic included to see what I mean. The service was & so was the beer, if I go back to Ireland, I would definitely had back to here and try even more dishes.

I stopped here for an authentic Irish breakfast dying a short visit to Kilkenny. The breakfast was amazing and very filling. When I first arrived, I walked into the restaurant not knowing exactly where to go. There was no host stand so I just stood in the front and waited for someone to seat me. As I was standing there, servers just kept passing me. At this point I'm confused on whether I'm suppose to seat myself or not. After about 5-10 minutes, the guy behind the bar asks me if I need seated. I finally get seated and order breakfast. They only had full or half breakfast offered at this time, no menu. The server popped in once or twice the whole time I was seated and I also had to take the bill to the bar to pay. Like I said before, the food was good but the service wasn't very good.

Plain and Simple. Amazing. We walked in with little expectation and a need for lunch. We found the best Guinness Stew and Bacon and Cabbage meals we had on our trip around Ireland. Fish And Chips were very good and all were very large portions.

Great place to sit and have a beer. Wonderful service, staff was so attentive and friendly. Food was delicious, can't wait to come back.

Love! Eddy was just wonderful! So helpful and kind to us as tourists. The beer was so refreshing and lunch was delicious! Inside was really cool, fun bar filled with happy people. We will definitely be returning to The Playwright!

Service - 10 Funness- 10 (I made that word up) Value - 5 Food - 10 If you happen to be in Kilkenny, then this is a must try... Ask for Natasha... she is Awesome!!! She had a great feel of the area and knows her stuff. We ordered the Sheppard's pie and it was magical... it has to be one of the best places to be at in Kilkenny!!! Thank you to the chef and Natasha!!! Kudos!!! Keep up the great work...

I had high hopes for this pub when we arrived for a late lunch. We were absolutely starving and I could not wait to sink my teeth into a burger. Unfortunately, the burger was simply awful. It tasted like cardboard. I was left so perplexed as to how a burger could be so dry and ill tasting. Upon clearing our table, the server asked about the 95% of my burger remaining on the plate. I was honest about my opinion without being rude. However, it was shrugged off and I was handed the check for the meal without discount. I was tired (and still a bit hungry) so I didn't wish to further the matter. I did enjoy the soup I ordered but that may have been out of pure hunger than actual tastiness. I found the seating to be a bit odd. There was a bar with stools but then also a few pub tables along one wall. We were attracted to the tables near the windows as the pub was too dark and dreary otherwise for a lunch. We sat down to find that the chairs were so tiny! They were so low to the ground that I suddenly felt a bit like Alice in Wonderland! Surprisingly, they were not uncomfortable but I still thought them a bit odd.

Is this place even real? Super huge portions at amazing prices! The food was awesome, the service was fast. What's not to like?

Wait staff very friendly and knowledgable. Have a great happy hour between 7-10 beers 3.50€. The inside is a tradition pub with open air bar on the back side. In the heart of Kilkenny city centre. Def be back

Playwright salad of greens, egg, coleslaw, and potatoes, and a pint of Kilkenny. Delicious all around.

Don't worry, you won't be "That Person", because there's always someone else. The bathrooms are ok after a lot of drinks. They are not the best, but they work... The beer is fairly priced and the locals are very friendly and hospitable. We spent the morning with the local women's Hurling Team... Great people who needed to blow off some steam after a hard game. I look forward to going back and spending some time with some great people.

I SURVIVED THE WORLD'S END…read more I deserve a bumper sticker with that slogan written on it. Or something. Allow me to explain... The World's End is a very authentic Irish Pub, in the very authentic Irish town of Kilkenny, with a cast of VERY colorful regulars. Think Cheers, but SOAKED in at least 10x more alcohol. The front entrance has a little diner feel to it, but all the action happens in the back bar through another set of doors. We walked in at 3 in the afternoon with full intentions of 1 drink and a quick bite...but that all changed when the bartender and locals heard our accent. Clearly not Irish. Before long, everybody was chatting us up, asking where we're from, our plans in Ireland, offering us drinks, pouring us drinks, offering us more drinks. I'm pretty sure we're now Facebook friends with a few of them. One of the locals, fascinated that we're from California, stuffed a bunch of change in the jukebox and selected every song about or with the word California in it. We stayed for at least two hours, half of it listening to the likes of California Girls, Hotel California, California Love, & It Never Rains in Southern California. Good times.

It also brought back fond memories of one of our early dates at a Left Bank in Pleasant Hill CA, when Gayle put me to the test. :) p.s. - I'm still around after 20 years. Our tour had just arrived in Kilkenny and as we walked down through the Food Festival (it was also a Bank Holiday), we needed to find a bank to replenish our cash reserve for tips and such. As we were Downtown, that was easy to accomplish. After that, I asked Gayle if she wanted to eat at the food festival or sit down somewhere. She opted for the latter, and Left Bank was right there! The place was packed and with great happy Bank Holiday energy, but the nice guy greeting us suggested we walk around and see if we could find an empty table. After about 5 minutes of searching, we spied a couple just leaving at a table by the window and we grabbed it. We were served quickly by an observant wait person, and before we knew it, my Chicken BLT and Gayle's Burger were right there. My choice was very good, and Gayle's burger was amazing. My adult beverage of choice was a Smithwicks, while Gayle stuck to her go-to Chardonnay choice (but with a burger?). Then as we're enjoying our Lunch, we look out the window and there's our friends Don and Fern walking down the food festival street! Gayle quickly left to chase them down, and with enough room at the table, the more the merrier! If we weren't on the tour clock, I would have gone another round. But alas, all good things....and doing a mitzvah by leading another couple looking for table to ours as we left.
