We were sailing on the Disney Wonder with our first stop being Icy Strait Point. One of our top bucket list items for Alaska was to get some crab, so we were determined to make it happen after docking! And honestly, this little town doesn't have a whole lot of options for food - Crab House seems to be the standout spot. I'm glad we came here a little before lunch, as it was empty. The crab we ordered came out hot and fresh and was exactly what I'd hoped for. While they do have Alaskan King crab, I went with regular cuz that stuff is 'spensive. But lemme tell you, that bad boy was HUGE and came with plenty of butter!! To make it even better, you get a gorgeous view of the bay right outside the window. Right around noon, it seemed like everyone and their brother came in and were swarming for tables, so I'd recommend coming either earlier or later than lunchtime. We loved Crab House! It was the perfect place to cross of that bucket list item.

The salmon chowder was good. Very delicious and full of flavor and salmon chunks. The reindeer chili was amazing. I wouldn't know it was reindeer (besides it was written on the menu) but if that's how reindeer taste then I am a fan. Both came out hot which was nice on a cold day. The drink was good, maybe a bit too sweet for me but I can see why it's popular. The servers were all very friendly and patient with everyone trying to order. There is plenty of seating and once you're done the tables are cleaned quickly.

Nice crab spot in Icy Straits. Nothing fancy just good crab and cold beer. Good choice for tourists.

There were no prices listed. I ordered a cup of salmon chowder. It was a small cup that tasted like canned salmon with a roux to thicken it. It was ~$11. Soda was ~$6. The view is great outside but it's a tourist trap.

    Unique Bloody Mary

This is one of the most memorable places we ate/drank on our 19 day cruise from Long Beach to Tokyo. It all started when I saw the Bloody Mary with about 2" of crab on top. I said "let me have one of those". A few minutes later the girls joined me and we shared Dungeness crab [whole crab or two clusters]. It was enough to give us a good sampling. I was going to order the reindeer chili but the girls would not participate and i so I decided not to order it. I also had one of their local seasonal ambers. They had allowed me a sample so I knew that it was good. That's always helpful. The people working there were really nice and they were jumping. There were a lot of people in there but they handled it very well. Place looks like it belongs in Alaska. Big, clean and woodsy. I don't know, is that a word? But that's what if felt like. Again, of all the places we went to, this was one of the places we talked about the most.

I came for the crabby bloody mary and it was delectable! The place is pretty crowded and inside seating is pretty limited. There is additional sitting outside on the patio, which is where we sat. I must say the bloody Mary is the bomb!! We had a couple of crab clusters, because when in Rome... Anyway, the crab was good, the bloody Mary was wonderful, the beer was cold , the service was fast, the staff was friendly, so overall a good experience. Order at the counter, get your number and find somewhere to sit. Your food will appear as if by magic. If you get the bloody Mary, you have to go to the bar to pick it up they will not bring it to you. If you have a hankering for some seafood, go on in. If you want a damn good, bloody Mary, definitely go!

Really awesome dungeness crab here! Fresh, steamed to perfection and just plain ʻonolicious delicious! Ordered 2 claw dungeness. My fave crab is Kona Crab but this dungeness was sooooo good and no buttah needed. Pricey but worth the value. - chowder is nice but not memorable. Wait till you get back on the ship. - great place to hang out with some beer and crab! Drawbacks - BYO CRAB Tool - dungeness is easy to break but the claw can be really hard. Donʻt use your teeth! Chopstick provided to help push the meat out. - not many tables inside - long line - order at counter, no table service.

    Crabby Bloody Mary August 2025

The line was long to get served/seated. I suggest going to the bar if you want the crabby Bloody Mary. It was delicious and had plenty of crab meat, shrimp, a large crab leg and the usual veggies. I will definitely make my way to the Crab House on my next visit.

Was told that this was the place to get some crab legs and TBH they were okay. Ordered the dungeoness crab, peeled shrimp, and salmon chowder. The crab was dry and butter was provided but no side dishes. The shrimp tough and there was no sauce to go with it. The chowder was pretty good though.

Our cruise ship docked at Port Frederick where we walked over and rode the green gondolas (free ride) to a former cannery. As we wandered through the Hoonah Cannery Museum, we came across the Crab House nearby and decided to try it out. THE FOODS | Select seafood (crab, shrimp) with a few speciality soups, and chicken jambalaya. I ordered... - Fresh Dungeness Crab | Steamed and deliciously silky/tender. Dip it in the clarified butter, squeeze a bit of lemon, and let all the freshness melt into your mouth. - Alaska Reindeer Chili | Wasn't sure about how it would taste, but it doesn't taste gamey at all. It tastes like ground beef. Layered with cheese and chopped raw onions, this side dish warms you up after spending the day out in the cold, crisp weather of Juneau. - Smoked Salmon Chowder | Creamy with bits of smoked salmon. Just a little more seasoning and this would've been a hit with me. Both soups come with oyster crackers. THE DRINKS | Select beers, cocktails, and wine. - House Speciality. Alaska Crabby Bloody Mary | Made with a special blend of tomato juices and house seasonings, garnished with crab meat, shrimp, celery, lime, pickle, olive, pickled Alaska Beach asparagus and a crab leg. The flavor is tomato juicy with a hint of vodka and vinegar from the pickled asparagus and pickle. It's very mildly spiced and the garnishes alone make for a aesthetically pleasing cocktail. - Cannery Red Ale | Alaskan brew by Denali Brewing Co. It's malty with a nice finish. THE CRAB HOUSE FEELS | Spacious and clean. Wood everywhere; wooden beams above, wooden floors below, and wooden bar top. During our stop, the place was packed with other cruise folks and finding an open table was difficult. We ended up sitting at the bar which had plenty of counter top space. THE PARKING SITUATION | We took the green gondolas and walked over to the Crab House by following the paved sidewalk. However, there is a small parking lot nearby if you happen to have a car on the island. THE ORDERING LOGISTICS | Stand in line and order at the front counter, which is located past the bar at the back.

Best bloody mary of my life!

Seemed a little pricey for a bloody mary... until I had it in hand. The amount of crab was worth it on its own. I can't wait to go back just for this!

The food was delicious! The portion was small considering the price you pay, but keep in mind it's all tourist. There was a long line out the door and it took forever to order. They only had 1 cashier taking orders but 2 registers. It took longer to order your food than it too to actually get your food. The staff was not very friendly, but they were super busy. There is plenty of space to sit down. The blood mary was amazing! The dungeoness crab was sweet and yummy!

Together, they prepare a wonderful meal of steamed Dungeness Crab that is the freshest ever, accompanied by servings of Thai Fried Rice for everyone in your party. Mix the chunks of crab into the rice and voila' - The best crab fried rice I've ever tasted! Both of them cook and together they come out to present each course. The dessert is a delicious homemade berry cobbler made from wild berries that Sri handpicked herself. Just WOW. C A L L A H E A D ! ! ! Their usual mode of operation seems to serve private small tour groups, but my advice is to call ahead of time to reserve your table (ideally before you board your cruise) and tell them which day you are coming into Icy Point Strait. They'll definitely save a table for you if you give them a heads-up! D I R E C T I O N S : If your cruise ship itinerary says "Icy Point Strait" as a stopover, take the little shuttle bus on the far side of the visitors center for $5 each. Or.. just walk the 1.2 miles over to the nearby town of Hoonah. Hoonah is a tiny little village filled with fishing boats and a minimum of touristy kitsch. HBH is on your way into town. The shuttle bus passes HBH on the way in, and drops you off in front of the harbor marina. Set your sights a couple of blocks back along the shoreline from the harbor and you'll find Hoonah Beach House (HBH). We would love to dine here again!

Although I wasn't a guest at the Glacier Bay Lodge, it was actually my AirB&B Host who suggested I make a reservation for dinner first thing in the morning when I arrived at the lodge. And...btw, Glacier Bay Lodge is the departure point for boat trips out on the waters of Glacier Bay. The dock area is located right in the rear of the lodge. I was fortunate enough to grab a 6:15pm reservation, though this was for one of the last weekends of the tourism season, at the end of August. Also, one more thing, lol...to explore Glacier National Park...by boat is the only way it can be navigated. The National Park Services in conjunction with the Glacier Bay Lodge offers one, 8 hour excursion from 8am - 4pm every day throughout the summer season. The website for boat tours is: https://www.visitglacierbay.com/tours/glacier-bay-day-tour/ So, it just efficiently made sense to have dinner here at the Fairweather Dining Room after finishing seeing Glacier Bay. I would also recommend to others out there to take the day boat tour and come here for dinner. Almost everyone on my tour was a familiar face eating inside the dining room afterwards. Another thing, lol, if you're not staying at Glacier Bay Lodge...then there's not many options to eat in the remote town of Gustavus. After dinner, my AirB&B Host was kind enough to pick me up at the lodge and drive me back to my cabin. Some details about this Fairweather Dining Room... - It had a cozy and rustic feel to it. There was a fireplace right nearby within the lodge. - The menu is limited to just a few options including salmon, halibut and fish and chips. There was also ribeye steak and a chicken dish. But, of course, when here on the Glacier Bay waters of the Inside Passage of Alaska...how can you not have seafood? I chose the halibut. According to the menu... "Baked Alaskan Halibut with lemon herb compound-butter, red-skinned garlic mashed potatoes, sauteed carrots and asparagus". As usual, it didn't eat heavy so I had room for dessert...a warm brownie with vanilla ice cream, drizzled caramel syrup and whipped cream (which wasn't even on the menu, but suggested by my server). Lastly, I had a decent view of the boating dock pier though the whole day was dampened by cloudy, foggy and tough conditions outside. Overall, eating here at the Fairweather Dining Room was still a rewarding way to end my visit to Glacier Bay National Park. I really liked the food, service and charming setting.
