    Mango chutney on grilled toast

The Icy Straight Lodge and Restaurant is at the edge of town across from the US Parks Rangers Station. Worth the walk. Wow! What a wonderful staff! Best gravy biscuit breakfast platter I've had all summer. The cook prepared a complimentary mango chutney over grilled toast as a snack for us.

Ask the Community - Icy Strait Lodge

Is the Logger Burger still on the menu? Lived in Hoonah in 1979 and had many meals at the lodge. The burger was my favorite. Planning to make a tri back in the near future.

The lodge burger is still on our menu. It is a mushroom swiss burger with your choice of fries/tots & Deluxe if you choose it.

Although I wasn't a guest at the Glacier Bay Lodge, it was actually my AirB&B Host who suggested I make a reservation for dinner first thing in the morning when I arrived at the lodge. And...btw, Glacier Bay Lodge is the departure point for boat trips out on the waters of Glacier Bay. The dock area is located right in the rear of the lodge. I was fortunate enough to grab a 6:15pm reservation, though this was for one of the last weekends of the tourism season, at the end of August. Also, one more thing, lol...to explore Glacier National Park...by boat is the only way it can be navigated. The National Park Services in conjunction with the Glacier Bay Lodge offers one, 8 hour excursion from 8am - 4pm every day throughout the summer season. The website for boat tours is: https://www.visitglacierbay.com/tours/glacier-bay-day-tour/ So, it just efficiently made sense to have dinner here at the Fairweather Dining Room after finishing seeing Glacier Bay. I would also recommend to others out there to take the day boat tour and come here for dinner. Almost everyone on my tour was a familiar face eating inside the dining room afterwards. Another thing, lol, if you're not staying at Glacier Bay Lodge...then there's not many options to eat in the remote town of Gustavus. After dinner, my AirB&B Host was kind enough to pick me up at the lodge and drive me back to my cabin. Some details about this Fairweather Dining Room... - It had a cozy and rustic feel to it. There was a fireplace right nearby within the lodge. - The menu is limited to just a few options including salmon, halibut and fish and chips. There was also ribeye steak and a chicken dish. But, of course, when here on the Glacier Bay waters of the Inside Passage of Alaska...how can you not have seafood? I chose the halibut. According to the menu... "Baked Alaskan Halibut with lemon herb compound-butter, red-skinned garlic mashed potatoes, sauteed carrots and asparagus". As usual, it didn't eat heavy so I had room for dessert...a warm brownie with vanilla ice cream, drizzled caramel syrup and whipped cream (which wasn't even on the menu, but suggested by my server). Lastly, I had a decent view of the boating dock pier though the whole day was dampened by cloudy, foggy and tough conditions outside. Overall, eating here at the Fairweather Dining Room was still a rewarding way to end my visit to Glacier Bay National Park. I really liked the food, service and charming setting.

The staff was very friendly and this is located in the same spot as the beloved Deckhand Dave's but there is no seating. My order came fairly fast which was great! I was handed a paper bag with the foot long inside of it. When I sat down to eat I immediately noticed the sandwich was cut in half then laid down on two separate pieces of paper and wrapped with the cut in the middle... this is a potential for disaster if you are not aware. I suggest they just wrap it in one large paper and send it. As for the food here is a few notes... Dill spear soggy and mild pickle taste with skin slightly crunchy. The bread is hoagie style, texture is slightly rubbery due to the moisture. I suggest lightly toasting the bread. The meat is cooked well done but is thinly sliced so it is tender but absent of any seasoning whatsoever. The caramelized onions needed a touch longer for that brown color and caramelized taste. These onions were mostly translucent. The cheese is thin so it melted well with the meat. The sandwich is on the lite side for grease which is great. Personally I think the sandwich needs a touch of salt like any beef because it brings out the flavors. It would also benefit from bell peppers as well as roasted red peppers. Would I recommend this establishment? I would say it is worth a try but I hope my review might assist you in making your own educated decision.

Red Dog Saloon is small and packed so we had to wait to enter towards the later hours due to our party size of 7. We didn't eat during our stay but we did have a couple drinks. The restaurant was crowded and loud, which I understand can happen in a popular tourist spot, but the staff seemed completely overwhelmed and uninterested in helping customers. What bothered me most was the service from our waitress, Summer. In my experience, she came across as disrespectful and dismissive the entire time we were there. Simple questions about the menu felt like an inconvenience to her, and the attitude we received made the whole meal uncomfortable. We were rushed while ordering, had long waits for drinks and food, and when we tried to politely ask about the delay, the response felt rude instead of helpful. The food itself was average at best and definitely not worth the prices. Some items arrived lukewarm, and parts of our order were incorrect. By the time everything was fixed, the rest of the table had already finished eating. The atmosphere may appeal to tourists looking for the "old saloon" vibe, but customer service should still matter no matter how busy a place is. Overall, this was one of the least enjoyable dining experiences I've had in Alaska. Between the poor service, long waits, and disrespectful attitude we experienced from Summer, I wouldn't choose to come back or recommend it to others. I hope management takes customer concerns more seriously in the future because the location and concept have a lot of potential.
