4 Layer Carrot Cake
Mary T.

The menu goes from breakfast to dinner and is known for their homemade pies which are a deal at under $15. Split a patty melt which was just okay as the patty was too thick albeit it was advertised as large. Missing thousand island sauce. Their side sauce doesn't cut it. The carrot cake was pretty good albeit not enough frosting but the cake itself was very moist. Icing also lacking creaminess. Service so so as we had to ask for extra silverware ie only two settings and 3 of us seated. It wasn't busy.

French Dip
Lisa W.

Ordered the French dip, never have I tasted something so awful. It's greasy, old roast beef. Full of fat and no flavor. Tried to give it to my dogs and even they wouldn't eat it. I wish Jacks was open late so I could have just ate there.

Garlic bread.

I've been coming here for many years. Before we go any further into my review, this is a diner, not a 5-star luxurious restaurant. Let's keep that in mind. This is a nice, inviting and "cozy" diner. The lighting is nice, the spacing between tables is fine and you feel at home. The staff are always friendly, the service is reasonably good, you neither wait too long, nor too little to where you feel rushed, in my experience at least, and the food always comes hot and delicious. When I'm here, I usually get a hamburger or sometimes opt for a dinner option, such as the meat loaf or the chicken strips (there are other options), which are accompanied by your choice of potatoes: mashed, fried, baked. And then you get to choose between a muffin, piece of cornbread or garlic bread. Whatever you get, it'll be sure to fill you up without leaving a hole in your wallet. Have there been mishaps with my orders before? Sure, there definitely have been, but they were resolved and always done without argument and a warm smile from the staff.

Freshly squeezed.

(Make sure to ask one of the employees about the hanging coffee mugs!) What really stood out was the service. The servers worked together seamlessly, refilling drinks, topping off coffee, bringing requested extras, and checking in with guests. Definitely a well-oiled machine! As a solo diner, I had the opportunity to sit back and observe, and I was genuinely impressed. Every interaction seemed friendly, heartfelt, and professional. What a great combination! The restaurant itself is a sweet, unpretentious little diner. Pretty packed for a Tuesday morning, but I happened to arrive at just the right time and was seated without a wait. Coffee wasn't great but I did drink two cups so I probably shouldn't complain. :) On their menu, it states "We are proud of our large servings, so sharing a meal with an extra plate +.75. Half portions of omelettes and scrambles are available, price varies." Great option for me but pricewise, it's only $1.50 less. Something to consider. I ordered the Mexican Omelette, filled with green chiles, tomatoes, green onions, and Jack cheese, then topped with salsa and sour cream. The salsa was delicious and full of flavor, although a wee bit overpowering. It became the dominant flavor, and I found myself missing the green chiles and melty Jack cheese that I was looking forward to. That said, everything worked well together, and I'd absolutely order it again, just with the salsa on the side! Perfectly crispy hash browns and toasty English muffin rounded out this hearty breakfast. Delicious diner breakfast and incredible service!

Scrambled eggs not seasoned (hard to pick with fork), potatoes with skin still on no flavor, watermelon and orange were cool. Watermelon had a orange flavor while orange was super juicy almost orange juice flavor. But both were super small one slice. My favorite part was actually the biscuit, just shows how low the bar is. It was just a regular biscuit with a shiny gold top. But many might like the bacon the most. It was crunchy and hard. Not my preferred texture. If you eat it all in one bite, will be better but still hard as plastic to chew. Flavor is good ofc. Sauce, idk what this is but was delightfully surprised. Was a sweet thick sauce. Might be applie pie sauce or smth. Had the apple sauce flavor. Meal was not filling. Yes I slowed down with my last bites but the fact I finished it without needing takeout was upsetting for the price. Extra Saturday 12pm U get on a list so theres waiting outside to be seated but not a long wait. Asked for recommendation, she recommended gnarly scramble, chico scramble, they make a good corned beef hash, most popular is farmers breakfast, and they said their bacons lovers benedict is really good too) Waiter was kind, refilled out cups a lot. Asked for drinks to start With the bill, waiter immediately asked if we wanted to split or together which was nice Free lolipops Beautiful interior As someone who isnt a breakfast guy, The meal was average to below average honestly. I was at least slightly satisfied after eating. The one saving grace is the interior is pretty nice and I was at least slightly full. And for that I'll give it a 4/5

Vegetarian burrito sounded skeptical at first, but was actually really good; good size portion as well. Decent size to share. We held the door for an elderly couple leaving as we entered, so for the sake of argument let's say we crossed their threshold at exactly 1:30 pm. "Hostess" ( college girl with messy hair under a baseball cap) immediately informs us they are CLOSED. No hello no greeting at all, just and abrupt , "We are closed." Huh. Sign says 2 pm?!!! She kinda shrugs us off with a parting comment, "we stop seating at 1:30." News to me, we've been coming here for five plus years and always between 1:30 and 2:00 pm. Never ever had a problem or had anyone tell us about this 1:30 pm seating rule. Ok. But I show her my phone. "it's 1:30 now" and she just shrugs and says sorry. Disappointed, we cruise over to The Farmers Skillet located a few miles away in Chico on Rio Lindo. We strolled in at 1:50 pm, noting they also close at 2 pm. I ask politely if we are too late even though our hostess already has two menus in her hand and a smile on her face. "Not at all," she exclaims and then says "Welcome". Service there was warm, and unhurried. The Roost could learn a lesson here. If your 24/7 policy is to stop serving half an hour prior to closing then it should be posted, and door locked maybe? I know Deja Vu (also in Chico, on the Esplanade) closes at 2 pm and they have the CLOSED sign up with door locked at 1:45 pm. We shan't be returning. Very disrespectful and unnecessary. IF in fact that IS the policy of this diner and not just the whim of a lazy student/hostess then we should still have been seated. It was 1:30 pm as we entered. Shame on management. Know your staff and make sure they are operating with YOUR agenda and priorities, not theirs.

I had reviewed the menu online and it made my mouth water so I had a pretty good idea. We were going to enjoy it. Indeed we did. I ordered the onion burger, and my wife ordered the jalapeño cheddar burger. We advised The server that we would be sharing our burgers when she brought them out. She had them arranged nicely for us as is shown in the photo I am posting. Both burgers were absolutely excellent. My wife and I were both totally impressed. We especially liked that. They have a condiment bar where you add your own extras. It's a good one too! Besides the burgers, we ordered sweet potato fries and a peanut butter cookie. The sweet potato fries were excellent. We ate every single one. The peanut butter cookie was out of this world. It even had little peanut butter cups on it. Fortunately, we split it otherwise we would both be totally ashamed of ourselves. The service was absolutely spectacular. Our server and the manager or owner open, parentheses not sure which) parentheses made a point to come by our table and make sure everything was to our liking. The friendliness is a big issue for us. The diner is decorated in a very attractive way. It is perfect for where it is located. I should have taken more photos of the inside. They had some fun music playing also. The prices were quite reasonable we will definitely be back.
