I went to see Meg and was so happy with her and my experience! She is very knowledgeable in hair and different techniques. I have very fine hair and have always been told I "must" layer it for it to have body. She explained that not necessarily is that true and explained why etc. I also am well aware that I have no clue what to do with my hair and what looks best with my face shape. When I told her some different ideas I had and that I wanted her opinion as a professional, she gave it to me. Every other stylist I have been to has always said "well it depends what you want," which is appreciated, but not what I asked. So case in point, Meg rocked and was super cool. You can tell she knows what she is doing and is an expert in her craft. She is so nice, as well as the rest of the staff there! Also they carry a great brand of dry shampoo that smells amazing (and doesn't make your hair grey if you have dark hair) and they have delicious tea while you wait for your service! After searching hours online for the "right" hair salon, I came across this salon through the Davines website. Because they're the best products in the industry, I wanted to find a salon that used them exclusively. I finally decided on this salon, and it was the best decision EVER! Cally did an extraordinary job with my hair! I absolutely love it! Before I started going to my former stylist "A", I used to get compliments on my hair daily. When my stylist moved away and I began going to "A" a top stylist in my area, I liked my hair. But it was always missing that unique, special touch. After Cally did my hair last Tuesday, I've never gotten more compliments in my life. Nearly every person that comes into the place I work, compliments my hair. Random people have been stopping me everywhere to ask where I get my hair done. It brightens my day to get such amazing compliments - I only wish Cally could hear them all so she'd know just how much me, and the rest of the world, loves the color/cut she gave me. It's absolutely perfect! She took the time to listen to what I wanted, and using her incredible talents to give me hair I'm in love with! She took time to get acquainted with my hair, and me by listening to what I wanted to get out of my visit. I've never left a salon without being blown out because the stylist wasn't comfortable drying curly hair. It was such a pleasure to know what my haircut actually looked before I walked out the door. I booked an appointment here for the first time a couple of months ago. Booking was easy and I had an appointment with Heather. She was fantastic and I loved her! I've been growing my hair for a while and needed to update my layers and try to look more fashionable during the annoying growing-out phase. She did a great job and was a lot of fun! The reason I didn't give this place 5 stars and the only reason I won't be back, is because they charge their clients for maintenance bang-trims in between appointments. For someone with bangs that need a quick 5-minute trimming once/month, I was so disappointed to hear that they don't offer this as a complimentary service. Almost every other hair salon in the neighborhood does, and so.. much to my dismay.. I am still on the hunt for a great salon that's in need of a loyal client who appreciates free bang trims. read more

Had a facial by Vanessa and it was exactly what I needed!!! First, Vanessa met me in the salon but then led me through the courtyard up some steps into an adorable apartment in the back. It was quiet and airy and felt like I had left New York all together! Such a peaceful setting! Ambience: Check! Next, I was pampered with wonderful local sourced, natural products that felt amazing, and Vanessa is super knowledgable and really helped me understand not only the products that she was using on me, but also the products that I use on my skin in my normal routine. Plus the application, massage, hot towels, everything were so relaxing! Life is pretty stressful right now and I desperately want a week on a beach to chill out, but this came pretty close to that level of blissful rejuvenation! Finally, after she was finished with her magic my skin was glowing and my lashes were tinted dark! I didn't wear makeup for the rest of the week, which is a pretty big deal for me because I have been having a lot of skin trouble this year from stress and illness and such, so leaving the house without concealer is a BIG deal! She's incredibly skilled at cut and color, and so lovely to talk with. Every time I leave The Karcher I have a massive grin on my face. My hair looks great and it's always such a pleasant experience. Short hair becomes me. I have always worn my hair short...except for maybe a year or two. Short hair is my friend. ...until now. I held off writing this review for a month. My hope was to get to know this new cut, play around with it, learn to style it and maybe even come to like it. NOTHING. Comments have ranged from, "I think I see what she was trying to do" to "there are several cuts happening at the same time, she just needed to chose." My 3 year old niece gasped and asked what happened to my head. She suggested I wear a chef's hat and reassured me it would grow back. I appreciate the open offer to fix the cut if I am unhappy with it, but, looking back, the offer was a red flag. It is an apology disguised as courtesy. I can only conclude that such an offer is part of your practice because of past experience with unhappy customers. Thank you for the offer, but I'll pass. Short hair requires an excellent eye, great blending and a real knack for style. None of those qualities are at play in this cut. It's the beginning of a bad idea. I am shocked by the 5 star reviews. Even if your experience was better than mine, this is no 5 star salon. Not a single cut that walked out was worth 5 stars. Mostly trims - as unremarkable when they arrived as when they left. Props must be given to the lovely space - I would have their interior designer cut my hair any day. Great design that is at once chic and warm. You get 2 star quality at 4 star prices. I am giving 1 star because my cut is a disgrace and these lopped sided reviews could use some balancing. As soon as my hair grows in, I'll head back to OC 61 (http://oc61.com/) where Ayumi, an incredible stylist, with a refined eye for shape/line and style, has never let me down. jill gave me best blowout of my life. esp. if you have curly hair and are used to getting your hair blow-dried only to have it start waving in a couple of hours. my hair had volume but was completely straight for 3 days. perfect. jill's philosophy is - if you do the blowdry right, no matter how curly the hair is, you DON'T NEED A FLAT IRON. she's exactly right. flat irons make your hair greasier faster and suck the volume right out. the problem with most c-list stylists is they try to cut corners by half drying your hair first and then going over it with the blow dryer thereby requiring the use of a flat iron later because, woops! your blowdry actually sucks, a lot, and they don't know what else to do! but jill knows better than those bozos. she blow dries the hair from soaking wet to dry. that makes the difference for us curly gurls. she also gave me a phenomenal color. mostly all-over with some peekabo highlights underneath.... all of this for 100 bucks. i'd say great. the day i came in they were playing johnny cash and all of the stylists had a cute little twang about them. in re: customer service, i had to call 45 min. before my appointment to push it back for an hour and they were completely accommodating. and once i arrived and the receptionist noticed that i had lost my voice and was getting over a cold, she quickly prepared me a delicious cup of hot orange spice tea. i will be making a trip to the parlour everytime i'm in NY. read more

The short story: Great space, mediocre haircut. The deets: I've got long, wavy hair that needs a basic split ends trim, a little framing around the face and a most importantly, a good blowout. I've been to all manner of hair salons - uptown chic, downtown cool, West Village cute, Brooklyn trendy - and was hoping for a relatively affordable, clean cut. Sadly, I got neither. I waited for a month to write this review to see how the haircut grew out, but realized I could have saved $100+tip by taking scissors to my own split ends. The "face framing" resulted in a big flop of hair that I have to constantly tuck behind my ear. I was told to "come back" if I needed that trimmed again (stylist code for: I know this cut is not that great). Cut aside, I was passed off to an assistant for a (partial) blow dry while the stylist trimmed another customer's bangs. Final result could have been achievable by the neighborhood Polish ladies at the local salon fryzjerski. And upon checkout? I was charged extra for long hair. The recommendation: When in Greenpoint, I'm going to Hair Metal for a $60 basic cut. Otherwise, you'll find me at Pierre Michel in the UES, where $150+tip will give you a cut and blowout that is worth the money. read more

Place is beautiful and their haircuts are fantastic- for both men and women. It's great when a place looks cool or the people who cut your hair are attractive, but it's far more important that they do their job well. Job being to make you look good and I always love how I look when I come out of that place. I live on the Upper West Side now but will still travel to Greenpoint because they're that good at The Parlour Brooklyn. Yes, it's not a $15 haircut. The Karcher is my favorite place to get my hair done in NYC. I received one of the best haircuts, and the best color job of my life, here. I love the dye they use at this salon. It is very reflective and beautiful once applied. Stephanie is my stylist- she is a joy to work with and I highly recommend her. I've been to the Karcher a few times, and it wasn't always so great, but today I had a 100 percent perfect experience with Stephanie as my stylist. I am someone with major haircut anxiety, but with her I felt really comfortable from the get-go. The person who washed my hair gave me a really nice and relaxing head massage. Alex is pretty much the best thing ever. I love the studio, it's gorgeous and laid back, everyone has been very friendly and professional. I had a...not so great experience at a salon in Manhattan and ended up having a hard time being willing to try someone else. I met with Alex after reading reviews and seeing what was available for a haircut. She really worked with me to come up with something that fit my lifestyle and would still be cute. The next time I came for color and have gotten multiple compliments. I let her cut 9" off my hair the last time and am still getting compliments even with it growing out. The price is reasonable and Alex is a doll. I would recommend her to anyone. I wish I hadn't moved so that I could continue to go to her. read more

I don't know why I didn't come here sooner! This salon is chill, easygoing and beautiful. It's not loud and hectic like so many places, and I was offered water, iced tea or rose while I waited. Moriya literally gave me babe hair!!! I have fine long hair and she specializes in dry-cuts which is perfect for my hair type. I left with long layers that gave my hair shape and movement, with a few shorter layers in the front to frame my face and make my cheek bones pop. To finish, Moriya curled my hair into gorgeous waves - a treat for me because I have zero hair styling skills myself. Now that I've washed and air-dried my hair as normal, I'm so happy to see that I still have great shape and movement. I do have a few first-grays and she didn't point them out or try to get me to color them (so many places push services these days) an angel! I asked about balayage if I ever wanted to try that out for fun, and I left with a good understanding of what options (color, amount of coverage) was best for my hair type. I love The Parlour! I used to go to The Butterfly Studio Salon since I lived close by, and I was pretty happy with my cuts there. After moving to Greenpoint 3 years ago, I knew I wanted to find a new salon closer to home. I tried out The Parlour, and they have totally won me over! I've seen various stylists there over the past 3 years, and I have always walked out with a fabulous cut. When my hair started going gray (shhh!) a few years ago, I trusted Callie to give me a great new natural color. She did a fantastic job! I LOVE the Karcher - the staff is incredibly helpful and professional, and the space is welcoming and beautifully designed. It's like walking into a friend's nicely decorated home. I usually go for haircuts with Alex, but this summer I got a double process hair color with Jen. Everyone is knowledgeable and talented. I'm Asian with naturally dark hair, but after I went blonde, I get complimented on my hair all the time. I live in the neighborhood and this is JUST what we have been needing. The Parlour is beautifully renovated (glistening dark wood and hand-painted "wallpaper") and has a REALLY cool courtyard in back, full of graffiti and sunshine. A high-end yet totally unpretentious place. Cally (Callie?) has cut my hair twice now, and she is amazing. Super-intuitive about what to do with my head of hair, funny, and spot-on. Really good vibe-- technically precise but loose. Plus she gave me a glass of rose, always a plus on a hot summer day!! Very highly recommended. DO IT.
