He does everything himself from start to finish - a thorough wash, hair cut and styling - all included in the price that he provides you up front before the appointment (so there are no surprises at the last minute that it will be double what you expected because your hair is a little bit thicken or longer - which is always so stressful in nyc) He is super accommodating and great with communication leading up to the apt and during the apt. He listens to what you want and then takes what you're hoping for to the next level. I happened to come across this lovely hair salon after a terrible misfortune at another hairdresser in the area who completely butchered my hair: instead of having my usual brown color, my hair was suddenly dark black, think blue black, and nothing -and I mean, nothing would wash it off. I tried everything I found online, and visited a few other places in Greenpoint, and they all wanted to charge me over $250 to bring back my natural brown color. Alex was the only person to fix this hot mess in under an hour and under less than $100 (including blowout). When I saw my natural color, I almost cried, and that was the moment I realized that this person is a miracle worker. I had gone to the same stylist on the Upper East Side for about 6 years, but I recently moved to Greenpoint and was looking for a local stylist and found Alex. Alex is truly an artisan. He adjusted my balayage to complement my skin tone, suggesting that going warmer would be better than cooler (a battle I never won with my old stylist!). I'll start saying that this was an absolutely incredible haircut and color! I feel reborn. With the pandemic it had been about a year and a half since I had had my hair done. My previous stylist had returned back to the UK with visa issues. I was taking a long time to decide where to go and finally found Alex. A friend of mine had gotten her hair done with him and I thought it looked great so I tried my luck too. I came in with a bit of a vision but Alex was very helpful in guiding me in a direction that was more fitting for my natural hair color and skin tone. The result blew me away. It worked much so much better for me. I've already received a ton of compliments on my hair since I had it done yesterday. I showed Alex a couple pictures of a short hairstyle I was going for, and he weighed in and actually advised me to go not as short as I wanted to because of the nature of my thick, frizzy, wavy/curly hair. He skillfully layered my hair and chopped off about 6-7inches. I was so impressed that he really knew how to handle my hair. And then he used the blow dryer and styled my hair beautifully. ABSOLUTELY amazing. I came in with a butchered head of hair (no really, I had been cutting it myself for over a year to even out a very horrible side-cut grow-out) and looking for it to somehow be made more manageable. It had been so. long. since my hair had been treated right (because I'm living that non-profit life, and let's be honest, I don't have a ton to drop on salon services) but it was *time*...and I'm so glad I went. I got so much more than I asked for (which was a cut and single process color), I left with an amazing, soft, shiny mane! I don't even know how Alex did it, as he kept the length of my hair but just cured it of it's crispy, uneven drama without making me feel bad for letting it get into such a state. I seriously wish I had taken a "before and after" picture to share. Alex colored my hair with hand painted balayage highlights back in early May. I'm a natural dirty blonde and usually have an out of town friend color my hair ombré using the tease forward method, but couldn't coordinate our schedules this time. I was very nervous to try someone new, as the same man has been doing my color for years! I am super low maintenance and can't have a look that requires constant touch-ups. Alex did an amazing job! It's now August and my hair still looks perfect! The highlights are holding up beautifully and blending perfectly with my natural color. Alex's haircuts are always amazing. I always leave his studio feeling like a million bucks because the haircuts are excellent to start with and then his blowouts are out of this world. (Also, his haircuts still look great months after he's done them, which isn't something I've ever experienced with other stylists, even some very famous ones.) On top of that, he's a super fun, interesting person to talk to for 1.5 hours (I'm an introvert, so that's saying something). I always have a great time with him!
