I've had acne on and off for 16 years and have been committed to fixing it naturally for the past year and a half. It's been a frustrating process to say the least but so much easier once I found Melanie through an article in mindbodygreen.com. Since February, I've been seeing Melanie monthly for a facial. Melanie has such a warm, calming and loving presence about her. With a harsh condition like acne, it's been refreshing and healing...truly good for my soul. She is also knowledgeable about nutrition and has great all-natural product suggestions making it easier to tackle my skin issues outside of her sessions; not to mention, she responds quickly to email questions with great suggestions making me feel supported. read more

This place is just looks. I went there a couple of months ago because the place is beautiful and has rave reviews the on yelp. I got a haircut with the owner, Nackie, (supposedly the best and most expensive stylist) because I have had bad capillary experiences in the past and didn't want to take any chances. I brought in photographs and reiterated the importance of having something low-maintenance that would grow out well, something that would look good effortlessly. I spent $140 with tip. It looked ok when she styled it, but she took waaay too much off the top. After I washed it, I realized I was stuck with a mullet that made me cry twice. I went back the next week to complain and she was very apologetic. She tried to disguise the mullet and gave me a styling cream for free (but not my $140). Two months later, I am still a slave to bobbie pins and the occasional hat. Even my mother told me my haircut looks bad. This place should be closed down for fraud. read more

Have to give a shout out to Laura for consistently cutting my bangs perfectly. I leave with bangs that come out even better than I could have possibly imagined! Laura is incredibly kind, professional, and flexible (I once had to switch my appointment last minute and she was nothing but accommodating) - I can not recommend her enough! read more

I've received a few truly bad cuts in my day, but I think this one may be the worst. I dislike everything about it. It's too layered, my bangs never lie flat, the color is uneven. What upsets me most about this unflattering and frustrating cut is that the stylist, Avi, clearly did not listen to what I wanted. I asked for him to keep the shape my hair had, NOT give me an entirely different style. I feel robbed of $260 and several inches of hair I had no intention to part with. read more

I would recommend this salon (and specifically Cally) to anyone! I went in with long hair looking for a change but without a ton of direction. Cally was able to figure out exactly what worked best with my face and the texture of my hair and gave me the dream haircut I wasn't able to find in fashion magazines. She made chopping off 10 inches fun and stress free. I've been back twice since and my experience was every bit as pleasant as my first. The salon is super laid back and not at all pretentious with a lovely and relaxing interior. Also, the shampoo/head massage is worth a visit all by itself. I find myself wanting to get haircuts much more frequently than necessary - especially considering how nicely they tend to grow in. read more

kristen gave me the best hair cut and i have the worst hair to offer anyone. it's full horse hair and i took a chance going to a stranger but i was desperate and she did an amazing job. i can't wait to go back and am so psyched to have someone in my neighborhood. woo hoo! this place is amazing too and low key and unpretentious. well done. read more

Went there once. I was not impressed with my cut-it was somewhat uneven(and not in a good way). had to do some altering with a scissors when I got home-I will never go back to the stylist to fix it as more damage may ensue from the SAME stylist). I don't really care about decor anymore because I have had some horrible cuts in some beautiful places( a distraction and a lure, methinks). read more

My best friend and I went to the Parlour last night to get our hair cut and we loved the atmosphere, the attention to detail, and the wine. We had both had the junior stylist, Meg, do our cuts and she was great. Very she gave us both cuts that would compliment our face shape, style, and life style (aka I won't spend more than 5 min doing my hair in the morning). Yay Laura!!! I walked in as a brand new customer, showed her two photos of what I wanted and she NAILED my haircut. Laura gave me a fantastic consultation and took the perfect amount of time meticulously cutting my hair. She also made it a collaborative effort (which is what I wanted)..and by collaborative I mean that she left a little wiggle room at the end of the session to see if i wanted more layers or texture to personalize the cut. Nackie has been cutting my hair for five years. Not a single other stylist has laid their hands on it in all that time. So obviously I am beyond impressed with Nackie's skills, but I was blown away by her new salon environment, design and staff. What a beautiful space! I was offered a cold glass of cucumber water by the receptionist upon arrival, and flipped through vintage design books during my short wait. Getting a cut and color at The Parlour is the perfect relaxing afternoon before a great night out with a new do! Well worth the trip to Greenpoint, I highly recommended! read more

I just saw Laura for color and a cut about a week ago, and she was incredible! This is by far the best hair experience I've had in years. Laura took the time to sit with me and chat with me about what I was looking for- we looked at swatches for awhile, and finally decided on a color that was flattering and exactly what I was looking for. Occasionally, going to the salon makes me nervous- I'm an introvert, so the idea of chatting with my stylist for hours during an appointment puts me on edge. Laura was friendly, but she didn't seem to mind that I was on the quiet side- the appointment was pleasant and comfortable, which I appreciate wholeheartedly! After she finished up the color, she gave me the perfect cut. She was able to translate what I asked for into something beautiful that worked for my hair type and face shape. I've been able to style it easily every day since, and it looks just as good as when I left the salon. Can't wait to see Laura again! read more

Nackie has been cutting and coloring my hair for 9 years. I wouldn't go to anyone else. Her laid back energy is complemented by her artistic need for perfection in her craft. She is definitely the best colorist for blonds in any of the boroughs. I work in the fashion industry and work with the top hairstylists New York has to offer. I don't dish out complements like this lightly. Her prices may seem high for Greenpoint, but she keeps people's budgets in mind and can cut your hair so there is little maintenance required. Some of these less expensive haircuts may require you to go back every 4 weeks for a trim because they don't grow out well. I can honestly say that Nackie's haircuts grow out beautifully, thus every penny is well worth it. She has earned her stripes by working in top salons and training with the industry's leading hair stylists. Even though she has worked with HUGE celebrities (like U2!) she remains one of the most down to earth and loving "beach babes" I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. The salon's appearance is elegant, but the vibe is totally laid back. It is comfortable enough that I can bring my baby with me and he can play on the floor while I'm getting my hair cut. i went to The Parlour on a recommendation from a friend. I have mid-neck length hair that is a bit thin but with the right cut can look great. I've been frustrated with my past few cuts, feeling like I got straight bangs and a simple bob that make my hair look boring and even thinner. I had an appointment with Meg, and we talked about how I don't usually blow out my hair, how I wanted shaggy bangs and lots of layers around my face, and layers in the back to give me volume. Great! Only she gave me the same straight end bob and bangs. I don't want to have to micromanage my stylist- We should be able to talk about what I want, but then after that, she or he is the one who knows to cut hair, not me. i didn't feel like explaining again was going to produce better results. So if you go to Meg, make sure she's giving you the cut you asked for. read more

I've been going to the Karcher for years and have never been unhappy leaving that place. Such a mellow, friendly place and the stylists have such skills. I've seen Cynthia, Alex and Stephanie over the years and love them all to death. Most recently I had a cut with Avi who also COMPLETELY knocked my socks off - that guy can Cut Some Hair. My hair is straight and fine, and I struggle to make it look a little more refined looking than my 3rd grade haircut. I don't know what he did, but I don't have to do ANYTHING to it right now, wash and go and it looks so slick. I can't say enough good things. They really know how to pick their people. Oh my goodness, I love The Karcher and Jen! Jen just colored my hair this week and I LOVE IT. She was super sweet and got my hair color JUST the way I've always wanted it--a light, ashy blonde--and I couldn't be happier. She is the most informed stylist I've ever had, took the time to brainstorm with another stylist on how to get the right color without double processing, and seriously, did such a great job (and taught me a bit about hair color in the process)! Great lady that did my haircut but I'm sorry to say it's Not worth 78$ or the time spent for it or that 1 star I have for them. Go to cost cutter and you'd probably get a better haircut. Going to wear a cap till my hair grows out again. Maybe they are good with ladies but they def are not worth the reviews I saw. not for mens hair cuts at least. I'm pissed I have had better haircuts for way cheaper than this. My hair is not even remotely close to were I'd like it to be or WHAT I ASKED FOR... Don't Go! read more

Super nice and great looking staff. (You want to look like the cool girls that work there.) Great relaxed atmosphere. Was offered a glass of wine when i sat to wait a moment. My stylist was also very relaxed, cool, and interpreted my ideas wonderfully. I went in on a Friday evening to get my hair done for my birthday, and it looked so sexy and cool. Kristin is a doll! Got my hair colored and cut by Allie. She was friendly, attentive, and happy to give me exactly the kind of color I wanted. She really knows her stuff, and gave me a color I've been trying to find for a while (copper / red). I had a great experience and loved my hair. Allie is such a sweet person, but more than that, she's great at what she does. I've tried a lot of salons in and around the city and The Parlour had such a nice, laid back vibe. I debated with myself for a long time about spending $100+ on a haircut, if only because so many haircuts are so bad, but I am so happy I went to the Parlour. I went to Jill, if for no other reason than my roommate went to her a few weeks ago. She was awesome. I went from really long, heavy hair to a cut with tons of movement, and none of the weight. She also was not judge-y the way so many hair stylists can be (what do you mean you shampoo every day?!). I will probably go back. Plus they give you espresso!!! read more

I got my hair cut with Michael. I came in with very long hair that was down to my waist, no body or layering (as it had been 2 years since I last cut my hair!). I showed Michael a few photos including ones of Reese Witherspoon and a couple Jennifer Aniston shots, to mainly point out that I was looking for a specific length, layers, and angulation to shape my face, and Michael was very receptive, talked through the plan prior to doing anything; He was very pleasant, took his time, explained each step he was doing, told me what spray he was using prior to applying it and what purpose it served, and did thorough work styling my hair as well including giving me some pointers on how I could replicate the styling effect on my own. I walked out with exactly the hair cut and style I had asked for, there were no surprises, and I would absolutely get my hair cut again with Michael in the future! read more

I've not written a review before, but I really thought I should say something. One of the most expensive supremely average haircuts I've ever had. I had my hair cut by Laura who is very sweet, but seemed almost disinterested in cutting my hair and barely spoke to me. I specifically asked (and paid) for a senior stylist ($120 incl tip - I'm too nice) as I've had one horrific experience with a less experienced stylist before. I wouldn't be so disappointed if the price wasn't so high. I had to leave my old stylist overseas (who charges $60 incl tip) and spends more than an hour measuring, precision cutting and holding a mirror underneath to check my hair is even. I felt like because my haircut was at night, I was an inconvenience and was given a straight cut with one layer all the way round and sent on my merry way. My hair wasn't even waved or straightened after. It was just majority blowdried. I don't believe that was a senior stylist-quality haircut. Such a shame because its a beautiful salon and the support staff were delightful. Not complaining, but I thought it was strange at such a nice & expensive place that you had to get your own tea from a furnace with a tap like an AA meeting without milk. I would not go back to The Karcher. read more
