Don't get me wrong the other places are great but Miss Gloria was so kind and fun and knew exactly the flavor profile we have when selecting our wine flight. Business-wise it's got great options to choose from, most places have a limited menu, but the selection is great! Atmosphere is light and open. This ghost tour was the perfect mix of spooky stories, history, and fun. I went with a friend for her birthday, and it was such a good time. The tour came with a glass of wine (or another drink if you prefer), which made the whole thing feel like a fun night out instead of just a history walk. The guide clearly knew her stuff and had a great sense of timing and storytelling. I actually made a list of things that I wanted to look up later, because the stories were that interesting. What a great place to stop in the stockyard and enjoy a delicious glass of wine. The menu selection for choosing the wine flight was quite extensive and they were absolutely YUMMY! And I'm a pretty tough grader when it comes to wines. I got the alomons sparkling wine (yum), the pinot noir (yummy yum) and the chocolate raspberry port (big yum). were each ordered a cheese board to go with our tastings. I was SO grateful that the server brought over the first and asked us if we still wanted the second. We had no idea the size of the cheese tastes. This could have been dinner for the two of us! Not gonna lie- didn't have high hopes for wine in Texas but these were pretty good!! LOVED the ambiance!! It's a small but totally cute place! And the woman pouring was so nice and helpful! I tried the whole gambit- from red to white and sweet to dry. In general I found the wines smoother and a hint more on the sweeter side than other the varietals typically are. If you like a strong peppery red you might have a hard time finding that here, but otherwise, they have something good for every other pallet. I will definitely be coming back. read more

Stopped in the kill time before attending an event in the area. I was really pleased with the list of wines, beer, frozen drinks and jello shots that they had. The girl behind the counter was very nice and explained the menu and then let me look over it to make my choice. I selected the Locust Cider watermelon as it is only available during the summer. It was served in the can. She told me they have a frozen vanilla drink available for people who bring in children. Being in a historic tourist area I thought this was great! They add wine for those who choose to booze it up. Small inside but very nice atmosphere with some cozy placed available for sitting as well. It was fun! Four of us were visiting the stockyards and decided to have a glass of wine. We came across Cowtown WInery and instead of doing a tasting, we all risked it and ordered glasses of wine. The place was moderately busy and we sat at the bar to start. The gals running the place were super friendly and fun. We ended up relocating to a round indoor table to enjoy our wine. I had the Malbec. It was "ok". My friend had a Cab - he enjoyed it. Our wives both had the Tempranillo Malbec blend - very tasty. I really enjoyed coming here when i loved in the area. The prices for flights or glasses of wine were really good, i think $8 for 3 or $10 for 4. I used to be part of their club so i stopped paying for individuals flights and cant remember. Dont get their sweetest wines as they are overly sweet and artificially flavored, but if you do their Yellow Rose, Stockyard Peach or Ambush white wine, those are on the sweet side but not kool-aid sweet. I like their Malbec and chardonnay as well. Do NOT get their blush wines, those are the koolaid wines. And their cheese plates dont carry crazy fancy selections, but their great for the price, especially like their spicy chipotle cheese. Their dessert chocolates pair great with their Ports. Depending on the staff, service can be lacking or it can be great, its hit or miss, but its such a small venue and not snooty, dont get upset thats its not five star service. Ive moved so cant frequent as often, by its a great place to stop in at if youre in the Stockyards and in need for some live music on the weekend. read more

Went for the ghost tour. $25 for one with a free drink. The tour was actually 45 minutes ( not the 60-90 minutes advertised). We made Maybe 5-6 stops. With hand me down stories. Was charged regular price for an extra drink till I brought it to the attention of the general manager that it was happy hour - which he 'forgot' and I was over charged. Wouldn't go back. Loved being able to visit this winery during my recent trip to Texas - the two ladies working were SO kind and sweet! They set my husband and I up with a wine tasting and let us try several things they thought we would like. We also tried the mulled cider and the frozen drinks which were delicious! I've written about Texas-based wine enterprises before, and it's got to be a dilemma when you're thinking long and hard about opening one up, because A) people love wine...everywhere and B) there are regular and intense biases that most folks bring into any given wine tasting situation. To listen to some you'd think that long established wine growing regions are the only ones that could possibly produce drinkable vintages, and that's frankly not true. Your odds may go way up there, but that doesn't mean you have a zero percent chance of tasting something worthwhile grown elsewhere. It is, to a degree, debatable that much of the wine business is a marketing conversation. I digress. Nervous wine drinkers rejoice, all of the wines they're pouring at Cowtown Winery are borne of Californian grapes, then processed and blended when applicable at the Cowtown location. What that means is that for even the most closed mind, you'll get your West Coast wine. For those who appreciate the Texan touch, the wines are actually being made in house. The best of both worlds for some. It's super quaint in here, and they seem to be pretty savvy on the social media front. I dropped in for a glass this week, but the flights looked interesting enough that I may have to do one of those next time I'm in the Stockyards area. Others have noted that the pours tend to be pretty liberal, and I'd agree. You won't confuse a trip here with an afternoon in Napa, but there's plenty to like nonetheless. read more

Randomly walked past this place while strolling the Stockyard. I love wine so figured we'd stop in for a glass. They advertise having Happy Hour Monday through Friday, but we came in on a Sunday and they were offering happy hour on drinks, $5/glass, all day! So score for us! Since it was a Sunday, the place was pretty busy and crowded but we were lucky to have snagged a few seats at the bar. There were two young ladies working, apparently it was the last day for one of them. They were very helpful and recommended the Ghost Wine (dry red) that we ended up ordering...and loved it! The beau also ordered some snacks (meats and cheese) as well. On this day, there was a duo performing live music as well so our entire experience here was amazing. California has Napa Valley, Argentina has Mendoza, and the Stockyards have Cowtown Winery. I came here suspecting it might suck and be a total tourist trap but, not so. The $8 tastings were fun and respectable sized pours. We did two sets and really enjoyed the different types of wine on offer. The sauvignon blanc was extra good. Servers were friendly and chatty. The only down side, no bathroom. :( Not even for customers. So sip slowly and do your kegels. They are worse than a Chinese restaurant. But the fun atmosphere, prime location, awesome servers, and cool wine made up for it. read more

We went out tonight because my wife found their Ghost Tour on Groupon and we thought it'd be a fun way to end our Halloween season. Well, the free glass of wine was good, but the tour was a joke. We are pretty sure our tour guide was either drunk or pretending to be drunk, but she referenced her nickname being Party-On and used it as a catchphrase multiple times throughout the 60-minute tour. The tour was pretty uninformative and mostly focused on the Stars on the sidewalk - several of which were for people that are still alive. Not really interesting stories to accompany them either and was more so just saying their name and their "title". Heh. Weird and most people in our tour couldn't have cared less. I know this because I talked to several of them when our guide took a bathroom break. The stories that actually pertained to ghost followed a pattern that sounded something like this, "People often see a ghost in the bathroom. The ghost will pull on people's hair a little because they have a sense of humor. I talked to the owner and he said he heard people say they saw something. All good. Moving on." Repeat. And repeat. And repeat again at the next place. Uh... what? That was the general story for almost every location on the tour, aside from two locations where she told us about who actually died and how. Part of the appeal of ghost tours are hearing the stories about who they were when they were alive, how they died, and then tell us some of the local, paranormal legend of their afterlife. This was a lot of hearsay with no backstory aside from "My neighbor swears she felt a breeze in that building over there. All good. Moving on." Honestly, the whole Ghost Tour feels like cheap marketing for their winery. And it obviously worked because we wouldn't have gone otherwise and still ended up spending $30 in addition to the $25 we spent on the tour. HORRIBLE ghost tour! Imagine walking down the strip in Las Vegas while on a ghost tour. Thats how it was. Many might like that concept but not me. Was NOT a fan. We recently did a ghost tour in gavelstone. Talk about a huge difference! The wine was okay. But not enough to numb the lack of execution on this ghost tour. We did the tour at 7. And talk about a HUGE disappointment! Please know that during the tour..... the stockyards are still very very busy and is active with loud people, loud noises, cars/traffic, and loud music at the time of our tour. So it REALLY throws off the experience cause your waking through it with ALL that noise while trying to hear the guide talk. Do not think its going to be a quiet night walking through hearing scary stories lol!!! And not to mention all the drunk people waking around. Many who would stop the group and talk drunk talk to the guide. Its something I know the guide can't prevent from happening.... but it Just didn't make for an enjoyable time for a ghost tour. The guide mentioned we should go here or go there. Felt like businesses were paying him off to get our business. He did mention a place to eat. Which we took his recommendation. Worst decision we made! Horrible place!! I wanted to leave about 20 mins into the tour. But kept thinking it'll get better. It didn't. The whole tour seemed like a group of college kids were drinking one night and said.... hey... let's charge people to walk with us while everyone drinks and try to gain some money off a few ghost stories. read more

The sweet wines are really super sweet. Think juice or a liquid syrup but the staff person, who was the reason for third star, was willing to switch us over to a different tasting. Stopped into the cowtown winery whilst out and about in the stockyards. It had been a rough start to the morning, and apparently all we needed was a little bit of quiet and wine to get us back on our feet. Cowtown provided that. For only $6 you can get a wine flight of 3 samples. The sample pours are generous! If you want to get full glasses, those will run you about the same price. They also offer wine swirls and a sangria slush. Beware of the wines in the "Pinot noir" section. The tastes of fruit are much stronger than I was anticipating and were a little sweet overall. While all the grapes are grown in CA, they are fermented and bottles at the cowtown winery- so consider it a local wine. Had a really nice experience here and would def come back in again if I were in the area. read more

My wife, daughter and I visited the Cowtown Winery on a Friday afternoon. It was quite busy with people coming in and out. The slushies seemed quite popular. We did a wine flight of 5 different wines and each had a jalapeño shooter. The shooter was really good, we all enjoyed that. We liked 3 of the 5 wines, but not enough to buy any. The service was mediocre. Overall it was a nice stop, but not above average. If we are in the Stockyards another time we might stop in, they had tables outside so if the weather is nice, it's a nice stop. I wouldn't recommend going to far out of your way to visit them. read more
