Ate here once in three years. The greeter was disintrested and looked frustrated. There was a dentist chair in front of the door I guess for ambience. It was really a trip hazard and eventually someone did trip. I sat on the balcony on the courtyard I guess. I thought that was enjoyable. We liked the starter. It was muscles in wine sauce. It was very good as was the bread. I ordered ribs which seemed like they were reheated in a microwave. Not hot all the way through and forgettable. The service was average for a busy Friday night. Because we're in the middle of a pandemic, we decided to go with takeout. As good as this meal was, I can only imagine how much better it would be dining in. The restaurant looked fun and cool inside -- a really nice atmosphere. As a former restaurant manager, I'm very particular about service. Despite the restaurant being busy, the young man who served us greeted us promptly and made us feel welcome. He took our order and made some great suggestions. The meals were prepared and ready so quickly that we were surprised. I had the flank steak and my husband had the rainbow trout. We also had the brussels sprouts with almonds, green apples and Parmesan cheese as an appetizer. everything was cooked to perfection and overflowing with flavor. One thing we noticed was that all of the portion sizes were very generous. Even the side salad was excellent with lots of carrots, cucumbers and picked onions. Woohoo! This place is great! Whenever we travel up to Wyoming we ALWAYS stop here for some grub. This time around we had the Breakfast Burritos and they were right on point. They have black beans, potatoes, cheese, eggs, and salsa. The coffee is also a must, they have a wonderful blend that will wake you up and keep you going for the duration of your journey. While visiting town recently we were turned onto the Cow Fish. Had dinner here on a recent Sunday night with my wife and was really impressed with the quality of food and beer being served. I was a little disappointed at their menu as they serve a smaller pub menu on Sundays and Mondays but I still managed to have a great meal. However the food was not great tasting. The appetizer shrimp was just spicy nothing great and the Brussel sprouts were now crispy enough. Fish tacos were dry. Crem Brule was not great either The best things we ordered were the rib eye, beer cheese burger and fries. Our waitress was nice and friendly but was more concerned with getting her shift work done instead of taking our dirty dishes off our table or bringing boxes. She just kept piling our food on top of our dirty dishes yuk. This was the worst part of our meal was being served our desert with my partially eaten ceaser and ALL of our other dirty diahes still sitting in front of me. I'm here on business. I love this place. I just had a HUGE side salad with Blue cheese dressing (blue cheese crumbles on top of the dressing on the side. Then a giant chunk of blue cheese at the bottom of the side! So freaking good. Now I'm working on the Flank Steak with black beans, bacon & corn succotash. Fresh asparagus, an amazing citrus dipping sauce topped with cilantro & a fresh lime. This is the best flank steak I've ever eaten in my life! I have Victoria as my server, she was super friendly when I came in, got me water & bread asap. She gave me some recommendations & highly recommended the flank steak. Boy am I glad I listened to her! I was visiting a good friend when she brought me to Cowfish. I have to say that everything, across the board, was excellent. The atmosphere, the service, the drinks, and the food. First we started with cocktails - I can't remember the names now but all three were phenomenal. Not too sweet, not too strong, but got the job done! We ordered the meatloaf and the tenderloin tip pasta. Both were amazing. The meatloaf, don't tell her I said this, is better than my moms. That's a hard fight to win! The sauce paired perfectly and the meat was perfectly cooked. Same with the pasta. Last we tried the absolute perfect piece of carrot cake. Like I said l, everything was truly wonderful. We want to start off by saying that we are regulars at Cowfish and Gannett Grill. They both have wonderful food and service. We called at 4:30 to make a reservation for the patio. They said they didn't have a table available until 7:30 and we said that would be fine. When we arrived, we were met by a nice young lady who seemed to be confused on why our table was not ready. She let us know she could seat us in the dining room but we really were looking forward to the patio being that is what we asked for and the weather is so beautiful this time of year. A man stepped up to the counter to answer the phone as I was asking if we sat in the dining room, could she please come and get us when a table on the patio became available? She was saying, of course if a table becomes available she would get us but she was cut off by the rude man interrupting us from his phone call to let us know that the patio tables are first come first serve. We were never told that when making the reservation. We went ahead and took the dining room table, still flabbergasted at his response to us. He came right over to the table with a antagonistic attitude. Raising his voice,which was completely uncalled for. Working in hospitality for many year's, myself, you would think that he would have come over offering an apology for the confusion and how to resolve the issue to keep loyal customers Happy but Instead, He let us know his name was Zack. And that he was the manager and told us to leave! It was completely unprofessional. We were looking forward to a lovely night out so we de-escalated the situation. The service was outstanding and our food was delicious!!! The management was literally the only issue we had. Upscale dining in the middle of Wyoming? Yes, and they do a great job here. That Wyoming beef is stellar. Get it. I made the mistake of trying to be healthy and get fish the first time we came here. I enjoyed the fish but after a bite of the NY strip I knew that heaven is a place on earth. Favorite brew here is the hefeweizen- I like the strong banana notes. Second time here I got the NY strip and it was... melt in your mouth tender and cooked exactly to medium rare. Not ashamed to say I smelled every bite before I ate it. Just perfectly done. Tender broccoli and rich mashed potatoes with Boursin cheese made this meal nirvana, one I will remember fondly for many days. Service was great as well! "Taste the difference" is Cowfish's motto...well, we did not get the chance. We showed up early to drink a beer, Jack Morman American Pale Ale which was very good. When we checked in with the hostess 10 minutes early she said "you will have to wait until 7:15, because it's easier on me"....ok? Well once seated, our waitresses said that the food coming out is a 45 minute wait....ok! She also said the appetizers and pub menu will be quicker, Um no! We waited 45 minutes to receive cold mussels. We paid for our drinks and left. To top it all off....we sat there waiting for the appitizer and she said "would you like some more bread?" Bread? 40 minutes into this waiting game she offers bread AND it took 15 minutes for the Hefenwizen, which was not very good anyway....sad but true I would not go back the next time we come to Lander, WY. read more

After hiking to the falls up at Sinks Canyon, a Wy State Park, we were hungry for some Wyoming steaks. We headed into the fun town of Lander to the "Cowfish". There was a bar with delicious pizza and burgers and a fun energetic environment next door to Cowfish. We were looking for something different and a little calmer because the falls up at Sinks Canyon had us in a zen like state. The outdoor seating was an option worth thinking about but we chose the indoor seating . The atmosphere inside the Cowfish was very chic and upscale without forgetting the Lander hard work Hometown feel. Victoria and Alisha, our wait staff for the evening, served us with their down home Wyoming Flair. The 16 oz ribeye was flavored responsibly with a dry coffee rub and was Spectacular to the end. Paired with garlic and cream cheese mashed potatoes and a hefty sprig of broccolini that was perfectly steamed which is not the case in other finer establishments . The service was fast and efficient but not without those moments of genuine fun interactions that separated the finest waitstaff from the rest.. We also tried the beef tips with pasta and the 8oz filet which we're also wonderfully prepared. I am torn as I write this. Let me start with the good, so I don't bury what value there is. I ordered their microbrew sampler for $8, received seven 5oz. Glasses of their entire lineup. Fantastic, top to bottom. The brewery staff is doing it right! I wish I could be as kind for the restaurant. My kids ordered "Cow Tips"... A sirloin tips dish over store-bought penne. In the two dishes there were 5 and 6 small pieces of sirloin tip. This for $22!! Outrageous. I noted this to the waitress who said she would notify management. Apparently that is all she did, since they did not rectify, apologize or make amends. They don't "have" to, but the fact that they sold this overpriced dish I could get at "Noodles and Co." for half of what they ask is why they get this review. I also ordered linguini with clam sauce for myself. I know..ordering clams in Wyoming is like ordering fun in Utah, but the dish was pretty good. It came in a lemon pesto that was perfect. Reading previous reviews, my husband and I decided to make this our dinner place for the one evening we were spending in Lander. Based upon their prices we figured it would be great. First of all, I called at 5:02 PM (they do not open until 5:00) to make reservations and reached a recording saying to leave a message and they would call me back to confirm (I had previously tried to do it on their online system and couldn't get it to work on my iPhone). No one ever called me back and my numerous attempts to call them resulted in the same recorded message. We finally went a little before our "reservation" time and found that they had no reservation for us and no explanation as to why they do not answer their phone. We understand that during post-Covid , restaurants are struggling to get help but this was ridiculous. We did finally get seated. Now, just know that this is a very loud, noisy bar-type setting - again, a surprise to us based upon prices. The service was extremely slow and poor but we finally got our food. The food, for the price, was mediocre at best. Note that everything is served a-la-cart and sides, salad, bread, etc. is not included. The menu stated that the bread was included and if you required more - it would be an additional $3.00. Not so - the server said that no bread was included, so we paid the $3.00. All in all, I would settle for a simple meal at a family-style restaurant and save my money for a restaurant that knows how to properly prepare $23-$41 meals. For the same price point, we had had fabulous dinners, service, and ambiance in Keystone, SD and Buffalo, WY. read more

Made the trip up to Lander for business and this place came highly recommended by the locals. Anyone I asked "where's a good place to eat?", Cowfish was the first establishment given. After eating here, I can vouch for the locals knowing where the good food is. Granted, the culinary completion in surrounding Lander and nearby Riverton leaves a lot to be desired (basic fast food chains and some older diners). Even if that wasn't the case, this place would still stand out. Great atmosphere inside the dining room (which I'm told is over 130 years old) along with an awesome wait staff. The menu has a good range of higher dollar items, as well as a good amount of reasonably priced items, so there is surely something for everyone here. They also brew their own beer in-house! We started with the Southwest Egg Rolls which were incredible. The plate had an amazing Sweet Chili Sauce under the rolls which was an excellent compliment to their flavor. We liked them so much, we ordered a second round of them! For the main course I had their Bison Burger with Jack Mormon Pale Cheese. It was excellent! The Bison meat was lean and flavorful, and the beer cheese was creamy and delicious! Next time I head up to Lander, I am sure to comeback to Cowfish, just as anyone should heading up to Central Wyoming! read more

I had read about their pulled pork sliders on their website, and immediately fell in love! Any place that has pulled pork of any magnitude has got something AWESOME going on! To start, they serve you one of the best bread rolls you will ever have. It was so fresh and warm with the just firm enough crust to make tearing it apart, all the more delightful. I ended up mixing the oil and vinegar together to dip it it, sooooo gooooddd. Obviously I ordered the Pork Sliders, and boy I am glad I did!! Three plump little sliders were all huddled next to each other, sitting next to perfectly slight and crisp fries. The buns were light and fluffy, and ready to deliver the main attraction to your lips as a perfect compliment. Biting into the mini love lump, fills your senses with a perfectly juicy pork serenade. The BBQ flavoring was a light mustard and tomato sauce, not overwhelming by any means. It was just potent enough to accentuate the tender pork. It was just as amazing as I had thought it was going to be. The fries were also an excellent addition to the already amazing meal. My boyfriend had the Caesar Salad with Fried Anchovies. I have yet to actually get over my intense fear and loathing of anchovies, so I just ate some of the lettuce... Honestly, the Caesar Salad over at the Brewery was heads above this one. Kind of a bummer, but good to know. PS. it had NOTHING to do with the fact the lettuce was chopped (as mentioned in another review). It actually made it much more 'date food' material. It was just kind of dry and didn't have a lot going on. Granted, the crispy things that it came with (some sort of crouton?) were super great. Reasons to eat at Cowfish: -Date Night -Parents are in town -Business meeting -You just love pulled pork or amazing quality steak!
