    Steak sandwich?
    Fran K.

We were seated immediately, it's advisable to make reservation, but seeing as it was during winter time, it wasn't very busy. It took 15 minutes to get the plate of different assorted dipping celery, carrots, ect, and drinks, nice touch. Service was prompt, friendly and informative. I got the ribeye, and it comes with what looked to be stuffed cabbage rolls and ravioli, the ribeye had too much gristle, the steak itself was huge, but tough. The salad had way too much blue cheese, I should have ordered it on the side. I would recommend this place, maybe I'm too picky, this place gets so packed that reservations are recommended, I would come back but maybe try something different.

    Tremendous T-Bone steak!!!

Whoever said things are bigger in Texas may not have ever ordered a T-Bone steak at Svilars in Lander (Hudson) Wyoming. This is a family owned and operated Steakhouse an Saloon in the heart of cattle country. My first visit was in 2005 and include bottled Budweiser beer, relish tray, dinner salad with home made dressings and some appetizers of sarma- cabbage rolls, and a huge plate of homemade ravioli. All that was a meal in and of itself so when I only made it half way through my brontosaurus sized T-bone I was ready to have a fork stuck in me cause I was done. Older cozy, dark casual atmosphere--nothing fancy (read Naugahyde/vinyl booths velvet paintings and common wooden table chairs. Regardless of the less than stylish decor, a real down home (farthest thing from a national chain Outback) delicious steak dinner that is more than worthy of a 5-star rating.

Place is an antique. Food was ok, wasn't bad but wasn't great. Could really use some updating.

What was even better was the ambiance, however! There was a performer playing, which you could hear well from the patio, which itself wasn't crowded, but which gave the feeling of being amongst the show-going crowd while being partitioned off. The patio's also dog friendly (albeit a little narrow).

Sloshed to one side of plate (which I'm sure is what happened). $14+ for this appetizer and we got three Brussel sprouts, guessing half the app fell off before service . Underwhelming. I mentioned this to server and she said she would check with kitchen. Mom got the wedge, which she loved. I went for meatloaf and my mom went for ribeye steak as mains. My meatloaf was okay. I did like the ancho chili glaze, tasty! My mom's expensive ribeye was badly overcooked. She ordered medium rare and got medium well on the well side. She simply ate a little and took the rest home for the dog. Expensive dogfood. Service was slow and after I asked about Brussel sprouts, pretty invisible. Never got an answer on them. We left before dessert and just got ourselves ice cream cones at corner instead. Our $12 spent there at I scream was best culinary investment of the night. Overall, no excuses for slow or absent service on weeknight early. App was either half on floor or messy and WAY overpriced for three sprouts. Steak was cooked badly. I would not repeat this expensive experiment. We spend a couple weeks near Lander each summer. Sure liked its food scene better when it was just a cowtown. The California influence hasn't improved it

They definitely have lots of locals but also tons of people coming through on snowmobiles. My server was amazing. She kept everything clean, checked on everyone constantly, while alarms grabbing and serving the food keeping things clean checking on people etc etc and did it while making people laugh and smile. I ordered this delicious breakfast with home made biscuits that were heavenly! The eggs hashbrowns and maple sausages cooked to perfection! Ryan came in to get a bite with me before we headed back to Denver! He was also greeted and got him some breakfast as well he got an omelette which he also enjoyed! We went to pay and during that moment a person came into this tiny adorable diner and casually said "we have 24 people " . I looked at the server and she smiled and said I'm gonna pretend to not be overwhelmed by that lol we all laughed smiled and she handled that situation like such a champ. Ryan and I scurried out. So note to large groups if you have well over 20 people you should totally call ahead especially if you plan on going into a little diner in a small town. But I was so impressed with how they handled it with a smile and a laugh and took care of everyone as we headed out. On the positive side, their outside dining space is delightful. Shady, tree filled and charming. If you simply want a place for a coffee and a chat - enjoy! Now to the food. The menu seems overthought from the get go. Constant references to local, housemade etc. It tries to sell a certain experience but completely fails to deliver. My mom and I both opted for a simple grilled cheese sandwich with a cup of tomato bisque soup. Soup was solid if on the salty side. I almost have no words for how bad the simple grilled cheese was. No butter or oil of any kind on outside of sandwich. Cheese on inside was a slice of provolone and some scattered cheddar. Not even melted through. Tasted more like stale bread than grilled in anyway. Vessel for soup had such a small top opening that it was impossible to dip without cutting the sandwich beyond halves. (Isn't dipping what you order grilled cheese and tomato soup to do?) Water was never refilled at table despite two requests when they came by to refill coffee. My friends had a quinoa bowl with poached egg on top and the other a simple cheeseburger. Neither even finished half which tells me a lot. The friend who ordered a cheeseburger decided to try their "signature " sautéed spinach instead of fries as a side. His spinach side could have fit into a teaspoon. This place might appeal to the NOLA/girls with unshaven armpits crowd but for honest, hungry people- walk away. It's just a very bad presentation of cali style casual cuisine. BTW, four of us. Two grilled cheese/cup of tomato soup plates, two coffees, one quinoa bowl and one cheeseburger with a teaspoon of spinach- 100+ Unbelievable. The more I see all the gentrification of californication of Lander, the more I hate it and unfortunately, the Middle Fork pretty much sums up what is wrong with Lander's "emerging " food scene.
