As soon as we walked in I knew I'd love this place. Feels like your grandmas kitchen. Warm and welcoming and full of love. The staff is incredibly friendly and answered all the questions I had. The veggie platters, homemade raviolis and meat rolls ( can't remember the name) are to dieee for. So good. Drinks are superior. Steaks are 10/10. Like so tender, melt in your mouth! And the sour cream they give you for your baked potato is so creamy and has so much flavor! Wow! I really enjoyed this! There were people I saw complaining about price and they must not have eaten outside of a Taco Bell for the last 20 years. Crazy good value for all that you get and the atmosphere, food, and story of the place I found to be excellent. We were seated immediately, it's advisable to make reservation, but seeing as it was during winter time, it wasn't very busy. It took 15 minutes to get the plate of different assorted dipping celery,carrots,ect, and drinks, nice touch. Service was prompt, friendly and informative. I got the ribeye, and it comes with what looked to be stuffed cabbage rolls and ravioli, the ribeye had too much gristle, the steak itself was huge, but tough. The salad had way too much blue cheese, I should have ordered it on the side. I would recommend this place, maybe I'm too picky, this place gets so packed that reservations are recommended, I would come back but maybe try something different. read more

First time going last night for anniversary. Service was fantastic, everyone friendly. Keep our drinks coming. Asking if everything was good or if we needed anything. Did not feel rushed. The food here is what you expect from a good steak house. I've eaten here three times in three years. The price is pretty high. I can't justify the price to eat here. I wish I could. The service is above average. I've eaten ribeye's and baked potatoes here with shrimp. All very tasty. Wow. People rave about this place but OMG- I kept thinking, "this has to be Gordon Ramsey's next nightmare." Seriously, the service sucked like a Hoover- so so so slow that I got my own drinks from the bar. It is literally a place with paper napkins and $30 plates. The first thing the waitress said was, "are you ready to order?" She asked us if we wanted a dinner roll then she disappeared forever until an hour later when she came out. By that time, I had eaten 20 crackers from the basket. Iceberg lettuce salad...Fried shrimp with .... cocktail sauce. It was ridiculous. It is sad, really. I want this place to succeed. This is a family owned and operated Steakhouse an Saloon in the heart of cattle country. My first visit was in 2005 and include bottled Budweiser beer, relish tray, dinner salad with home made dressings and some appetizers of sarma- cabbage rolls, and a huge plate of homemade ravioli. All that was a meal in and of itself so when I only made it half way through my brontosaurus sized T-bone I was ready to have a fork stuck in me cause I was done. Older cozy, dark casual atmosphere--nothing fancy (read Naugahyde/vinyl booths velvet paintings and common wooden table chairs. Regardless of the less than stylish decor, a real down home (farthest thing from a national chain Outback) delicious steak dinner that is more than worthy of a 5-star rating. read more

What a disappointment! We drove 1200 miles to dine here on a nostalgic trip! It was nothing like we remembered! Millie as well as Grandma Svilar's must be turning in their graves! Starting with the sarma, which was flavorless, unwieldy to eat and flavorless! Ditto for the ravioli! No tomato sauce in either of these dishes as well as no spices! My husband ordered steak rare. And received it well-done! One of our companions also ordered a steak and it was so tough he could not eat it! For such an icon of a restaurant it is a pity it has fallen so low. Svilars is great! The service has always been great and quick. It can be difficult to get in on a Friday or Saturday evening or around holidays. My personal favorite is their Prime Rib! Their prime rib is the best in the county when it comes to size and price. The blue cheese salad dressing is my favorite dressing out of all of their options It is not like generic blue cheese, aka ranch with blue cheese chunks. I highly recommend Svilars for dinner any time, and especially for special occasions! You can always call ahead to rent their party space! read more

Best steak in the state of Wyoming! Please don't let the dingy decor inside and out stop you from stopping in and grabbing a steak. If the steak wasn't top notch I would be rating this place a 2 star. The salad is terrible and bland(Iceberg lettuce). My brother and his in-laws have been going here for many years and they make special trips (driving 2.5 hours each way) simply to come to the restaurant every few months. I've gotten to join them a couple of times and I love it too. The prime rib is to die for, but when I don't want to spend that much money I go with their hamburger steak - it's all wonderful and I ALWAYS have left overs. Great food. Great people! This restaurant has been the ending point of our semi- annual backpacking trip for many years. This year was a memorial trip for my father who passed away last year. When one of the owners (I assume) was talking to us, we mentioned the purpose of our trip and she promptly brought a round of shots. Great food! Had the surf & turf (8oz filet + 6oz lobster tail). Both were delicious! Ordered the filet medium rare, and it came out more what I would describe as medium (slightly pink internally), but every bite was still tender and juicy. They cook it wrapped in an extra fatty piece of bacon. Being a California resident that has good lobster a fair amount I wasn't expecting too much from the lobster tail, but was pleasantly surprised that it was quite good. Hearty tail with lots of meat and cooked well. Good lobster tail in WY, who would have thought. My wife had the ribeye, which we would highly recommend. This was a HUGE cut of meat! (Maybe close to 16oz). Cooked medium and was tender and tasty. All around really good food. Would definitely recommend this place if you want a good steak! read more

I agree with Arthur's assessment...not worth a 2.5 hour drive but probably the best restaurant in the Lander/Riverton area. I travel to Riverton, on business, twice a year and have previously relied on fast food since the few sit-down restaurants in town are a-w-f-u-l. My client suggested driving out to Hudson and, oh my, the Wee Filet (yes, that's what it is called) was quite possibly the best steak I've eaten. Ever. The rest of the food? Meh. The servers were very unfriendly and one to the point of being rude.. Steak was over cooked and tough and took 55 minutes to get! The salad was nothing but lettuce smothered in dressing. The "mixed vegetable " was the frozen medley pieces served in a metal ice cream dish. For years we have passed through here and heard how great it was. Made a reservation while traveling and gave it a try. This was by far one of the worst meals I've had. I have been eating at Svilar's for 42 years, since the days you paid for your meal in the kitchen. Almost always had good steaks and the extras with every meal. Generally good service and generally fast. Not any more. The last two and maybe the last two forever meals unless I hear it has improved. I have ordered a club steak for 40 years. Not going to be the most tender steak always but the last two have been inedible. I took a doggy bag home and this time the dogs got to eat the steak. Used to get a good amount of carrots, celery, pickles, and peppers for an appetizer. Now it was three piece of each for two people. Used to get crackers, now you get them if you ask. Used to get you water filled repeatedly or a pitcher brought over, not any more. Used to get 2 sarmas and 2 raviolis, now it is one per person. Nothing stays the same for ever, but to add insult to injury the steaks now have a $5.00 surcharge due to high meat prices. All of the above is fine if you want to ruin what has been a great business for 80 years(?). We were seated at approx. 6:05. Drink order was fine, but no one took our meal order till 6:30. Salads arrived about 7:00, with sarmas, etc. about 7:15. The main course arrived at 7:50. Now they were busy but this is no real excuse. Our waiter was the owner and I am sure he was busy with the 5 groups of 12-15 who were also eating, but realistically I don't care. More help was needed along with more kitchen help or don't take our reservation. Its never a good sign when three tables seated after us got their meals first. Not a good sign when appetizer plates were still on the table at the end of the meal. The roll one gets with the meal looked like someone smashed it flat and tossed it on the plate. This epic meal took 2 hours and 15 minutes and we only ate a portion of our main course. I don't mind getting a go container myself so I did, but the check took at least ten minutes to arrive after I asked for it. When I paid the waitress asked how was everything, and I responded "not so great" and she said " that's nice". What was once a great place to eat, just a few years ago is sadly going down hill fast. read more

If you're anywhere near Lander, and you eat meat, and you like a bit of history and authenticity in a restaurant, you must be drop by here. It's kind of a time machine, but without the slightest hint of Johnny Rockets-y (or even McSorleys-y) fakery. Just a classic, lost-in-time, old-school restaurant--with Art Deco orange vinyl booths, portraits of Jack and Bobby Kennedy on the walls, and a plate of pickled veggies that gets plopped in front of you when you sit down. I got the filet, medium rare (wrapped in bacon), a baked potato, and a martini. Fantastic food, fantastic service. It wasn't cheap, but it also wasn't exorbitant. Just an all-around gem! read more

The atmosphere hasn't been updated in 50 years, but I actually like the old rustic feel. The steak was tough. I had the T - bone and my wife had the filet. Someone said they drive over 2 and a half hours to come here. Well, if I'm honest, it is not that good. But a restaurant would have to be outstanding for me to drive more than 2 and a half hours! This is an old timey Supper Club, authentically retro. If you're looking for "high class" this probably isn't your cup of tea. But if you're looking for REAL food, HUGE delicious steaks and a genuine atmosphere then buckle up! My husband had the filet and I had the ribeye. I was Loving my steak until I had a bite of his. Well I just finished eating at Svilars for the first time. I had the highest of hopes seeing reviews that said they make special 2 hour trips just to go there and that it is recommended as a Fodor's choice. The food is not bad, with the exception of the blue cheese dressing (wow something went horribly wrong there), but it's not good either. The decor is what I would consider "kitchy." any hipster would give his skinny jeans for some of the things hanging on the walls. But the ironic thing is, it's not ironic. The food, like the decor, is stuck in the 50s. The filling of the cabbage rolls was under seasoned and dry. The t-bone that I ordered had a beautiful charred crust on the outside but lacked salt and was, again, dry, even though is was cooked medium-rare(ish). My companion had the prime rib which was flavorful but still disappointing. The best part of the meal (and it is a lot of food) was the ramekin of Jus that comes with the prime rib. read more
