Pretty dang good food and very attentive professional service. We just had lunch but it was very good. Service was quick, food was plentiful and fresh, and I felt like a fair value. It's up at north end of town, so you have to drive a little further. We were seated right away, place was crowded with what looked mostly like a local ranching crowd. This place is small, casual and had a very small band playing', which made it very difficult hear what your companions are saying. The food came out as ordered, medium rare ribeye, and the sides were acceptable. Prices are comparable with surrounding restaurants. When you get done, you take the check up to the cashier. Well if you can get over the gagggiggling high school girls, (not supportive of a romantic dinner) the poorly trained wait staff and the over priced meals, then yep it's a good spot to eat. Seriously they need to knuckle down and see what other successful restaurants do and emulate them. A revamp of the menu is in order as there really is not many choices and really no mid priced ones. Decide if you want to be high end or middle of the road eatery. There is room for both in Lander. As a good friend said "the bones are there" as in the have a good structure, with the proper guidance, stick-to-it itiveness and training I think they will be successful. The chicken soup and fried cod had little too much salt for my preference, but the lamb was done perfectly and the bread was delicious. Presentation was also great and the overall atmosphere/interior was welcoming & cozy. And above all else, the server/bartender was absolutely charming and very attentive. She was about our age and we got to ask her about the lifestyle, the people, the weather and all the fun things you can do around here--the life in Wyoming sounds fantastic!! (We're from Indiana) We were actually the only ones there because it was a weeknight, but we saw some regulars coming in on our way out. read more

Just eat here tonight. The service was good. Food was good. My dad had shrimp and onion rings the batter was amazing. The most amazing thing is the young man that cook the shrimp, came out to my mom and dads car to help my 90 old dad and mom into the restaurant as I was running late. Then when we got ready to leave he once again magically appeared to help us out to the car. With service like this I will be back. Thank you young man for the respect you show my mom and dad!!!!! Love this place! The food has been great all the times we have been. Awesome prime rib and lobster special! The service is friendly and attentive. Let's just say that if you want a good meal for two people you're either going to have to sell one of your kidneys or perhaps take out a loan from Pablo Escobar to pay for it. First, and last time I was there this year I paid $54 for ONE steak that tasted like over done pot roast. I was so excited to be able to eat at The Hitching Rack again and celebrate my 60th birthday. It turned out to be a horrible experience. It took forever to get our food and it was very uncomfortably warm in the building. We all ordered the fried shrimp. The plates were very basic when they arrived much like a diner. The shrimp was under cooked, the batter was gooey and rubber like, and the baked potato was undercooked. The waitress didn't seem to know what to do in this situation and finally offered to take back the shrimp to be fried more. She was very sweet though. (Another option was to have the cook fry up a new course- I declined since it took so long to get the first entree). I sent mine back to be cooked more. It was still awful. I will say the appetizers and bread were good, though. I don't feel we should've have had to pay full price for this travesty of a meal. We were very disappointed and will more than likely never, never go back. read more
