This place is amazing. We stopped while en route to Yellowstone. I have to admit that my family of foodies was not expecting to have a meal this great in a small town. But the food, beer, and service were fantastic. We had the crispy brussel sprouts, trout, pork shank, and fried chicken sandwich. We love all four dishes. My daughter asked her if they did milkshakes and she said that they were not on the menu but would see what she could do. She came back with the most delicious milkshake topped with whipped cream. Was in the area on business for the first time and one of my contacts suggested the place for dinner, saying it had good food and decent beers. Quickly learned that he has a talent for understatement. I am a fan of porters and stouts, but they didn't have any, so went with the Rockchuck, a brown ale with malted rye. It was good, and an indulgence since I am a keto diet adherent and haven't had a beer in almost a year. Though the Wyoming Meatloaf was tempting, it came with garlic mashed potatoes and my keto diet steered me to the Pan Fried Rainbow Trout. A great decision! It was perfectly cooked and served with sauteed spinach and artichoke hearts, a wonderful pairing. The service was fast and friendly and the atmosphere warm and inviting. Absolute worst service we have experienced and we weren't even seated! We tried to eat Sunday brunch with our party during the lander brewfest weekend. Host/waitstaff was rude and inattentive. We waited for a short time and while we were waiting 3 different parties left due to the same issues. The restaurant only had two people on shift and were unable to assist anyone. There were only 2 parties of two that were seated so the restaurant was empty! We were extremely disappointed in the experience. EXTREMELY disappointing. The ribeye was overpriced, poorly cooked and a low grade cut of meat that was full of gristle and had no flavor. The fingerling potatoes were dried out like when you reheat old fries in a microwave. The baby back ribs were also over cooked and dry. The pasta was still crunchy on the beef tip pasta and the kids mac and cheese. The salads were good. Our waitress rarely came back and never refilled the drinks. We had 6 adults and some kids who shared a meal. It was not worth over $300. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

We had a party of 8 on 9/14/19 and we were all looking forward to a wonderful dinner and great service, which turned out to be very disappointing! The service was fair, the hors d'vouevors were good, the main course took a very, very long time and then everyone's food came out cold. VERY disappointed in Cowfish!!! WOW, This is sure some good grub, lol. There is not anything that I can say that is wrong with this place. The service is top notch. Best in our area. The waitstaff seems to really want to work there instead of treating it just as a job. They know how to explain their food and I find out new things by the way they tell you about the food. They use local custom meats which are antibiotic and hormone free. They have an onsite garden which furnishes their veggies and salad makings. All organic. Cow tenderoin tips are tasty as well as their flatiron and flank steaks. They have GREAT desserts. Each time I have been here our drinks took about ten minutes to arrive. Once we could see our two drinks sitting out ready to be picked up by our waitress but she walked by them four times. There are hardly any restaurants open in Lander on Sunday night, which is why we ended up at Cowfish. I am glad it turned out this way because we had a great time, beginning when we walked up to the restaurant and saw their funny logo above the door until the end when we "rolled" full and satisfied out again. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very pleasant, the service friendly (although a little slow sometimes), the restrooms very clean, and the food - oh my! Some of the best I ever had. Our party ordered the stuffed mushrooms with the crispy onions as a shareable appetizer. We could have ordered a second and a third plate, this is how great they tasted. But we wanted to leave room for the entrées and dessert, so we restricted ourselves, which is good, because the entrées were quite big and filling portions. We had the roasted Scottish salmon, pan-fried rainbow trout and the Oaxaca grilled chicken salad. Each entrée was delicious, the fish and chicken were "to the point". There was almost no room for dessert, but we were curious, after everything we had tasted so far, to see what dessert would be like, and delighted ourselves with crème brulée and espresso and cardamom chocolate mousse. Just wonderful! We still talk about our great dinner at Lander's Cowfish (we dined in June 2015) and are sorry that it is out of our way, otherwise we would be regulars at this awesome place. read more

So previous reviews had me a bit skeptical. People either seem to love or hate it. Lots of complaints on the service and price. I decided to give it a shot since I really needed a good beer. I must say I wasn't disappointed. I tried the white ipa, pumkin and pale ale beer. All were solid. I also tried their mix cocktail "big ginger". Not what I expected and a little tart for my taste but you could tell they used super fresh ingredients. I had the southwest egg rolls which were good. They were served on top of this amazing spicy chili sauce. I had the hanger steak which was ok. Could have used some additional seasoning. Always an awesome experience when I come into Lander for work. This is such an amazing gem of a restaurant in a little mountain town in Wyoming. Lots of interesting and flavorful dishes. Tonight I had the braised short rib ramen miso bowl. Full of tasty rib meat that had a great Asian flavor, lots of fresh veggies, cilantro, seaweed slices, and an egg to top it off! Delish! My friends had the fresh trout, fish and chips, and a chicken salad. It all looked delightful. Great wine and their own microbrews are great pairings with the terrific menu selections. I have recommended this place to dozens of people who have patronized it when we gather annually in Riverton. This time we brought an elderly friend on a the round trip from Casper, a 300+ miles trip just to go out for dinner. Our Freind enjoyed her shrimp. My wife loved the ribs. I ordered the 8 oz. filet for $36. medium rare. Served over garlic mashed potatoes and "in season vegetable". Potatoes on the bottom, steak on top with broccoli in the middle. The broccoli was cooked, but when, I don't know. It was served cold and wet like it was just pulled from refrigeration. When cold wet broccoli is served between your hot mashed potatoes and a filet pulled hot from the grill, it sucks the heat out of both. Steak sitting in cold water sucks. This meal sucked. I would have told the server if she had bothered to ask but she did not come around until my wife and friend had finished eating. I told both ladies working the room and neither seemed to care.
