We entered and we were greeted warmly. I wandered over to the lawnmower section and started looking…read moreat what they had on display. After a few minutes. I asked a staff member if I could get some help to answer some of my questions. She called over another staff member and David came right over. He was ready for all my questions. I showed him the one that I was interested in and he demonstrated all of the options. He was very knowledgeable about all the mowers, and their features. I was ready for the purchase after his thorough demonstration. He initially thought the one I had in mind was out of stock and I could get the display model for a discount, but it turned out that there were 2 available in the back. Mike unboxed it, put gas and oil in it and met us out front near the car after I closed out the bill. Overall, a very good experience at the Cowan Ace Hardware.

Things have changed at this location…read more My experience was coming inside the store around 3:45pm today and finding no familiar faces. The poor experience was walking by a young lady that appeared to be in a managerial attire who murdered the old Cowan Ace approach and greeting ALL customers that are in their oncoming path. My first 30 minutes was in pursuit of a 1/4" x 38 x 1in stainless steel machine screw that never appeared. I knew that there was almost ALWAYS a sales person in plumbing as well as nuts & bolts; connectors area of the store...that never appeared. The aforementioned gal personnel never showed herself....however another lass was on the next aisle over and when I turned into that aisle still in search of my stainless steel machine screw, this lass spoke to me: "Hello.....can you help me? Do you work here?" "No mam...I don't but I'm not having any luck, but hopefully I can find what you're looking for." I offered as she was a bit upset. "I spoke to a young woman that appeared to be a manager who couldn't help me at that moment but would find someone to help me to locate this small metric bolt." I understood her frustration...I've won more than lost when it comes to looking for nuts, bolts, connectors, washer...everything I needed to bolt two separate things together over fifty years. Not today. The lack of attention by someone that appeared to be of management apparel for two customers that (a) had been in one section in the Store for 30 minutes to an hour; (b) had asked for help that never arrived. I've been ignored in bigger stores....Home Depot is prime location of ignorant types with a vest that follow through when you have one collared. Unfortunately for Cowan's Hardware....Cowans is now the same lack of customer service as Home Depot and Lowes. For many many years I've stayed out of Home Depot and Lowes because if I need someone to at least tell me what part of the store I need to be so I can look for myself....big box stores are the place to be forgotten or ignored. However I've NEVER HAD THAT EXPERIENCE AT COWANS who always had plenty of workers and sales people. I would only buy batteries at Home Depot as they were always priced right. Most anything else in the way of tools, bits, blades, common to finish nails and a huge variety of boxes of nails, screws or bolts by the pound.....and everything else that I have to replace once any of the tools needed blades and bits replaced. However those days are gone on Green Street. My plans are to put 30 minutes to drive into Loganville to a full service and well kept lumber yard and Hardware supply ACE that is grateful for my making the trip from Conyers rather than shop the local ACE stores. I left around 4:30pm and had to bid the lady I was trying to help "Good Luck" while she was still searching for what she needed after nearly an hour in the store and still not getting any assistance. I always had respect for a mom/pop location that was something my business dealt with over many years. I hated watching these places fade away...although overpriced for most items, a few extra bucks working with a small shoppe was always worth the investment to watch them stay in business vs the big box stores geared to DIYers and contractors. It was nice while it lasted but this kind of indifference is without question a death knell of a long time business serving the community for all their hardware needs.

Uncomfortable and Disappointing Experience…read more I recently visited my local Ace Hardware for the first time to find a specific product. While walking through an aisle, a young employee asked if I needed help. I explained what I was looking for, and he took me to a section where he thought I'd find it. Despite trying to assist, he ultimately pointed me to a product he thought "might" do the trick, while casually mentioning that they didn't even carry the specific brand I had requested. As I made my way toward the front of the store to check out, I noticed a strange man wearing a ridiculous toupee staring at me with a blank face. His persistent gaze made me feel uneasy, so I decided to pass him and enter an aisle I thought would lead to the checkout. When I realized it didn't, I turned around--only to find him still standing there, staring at me. Since this strange-looking man refused to break his unsettling stare, I decided to approach him. Finally, he asked, with a blank stare, if I needed help. I asked him which way to the register, and he silently pointed, still wearing the same blank expression--which only further highlighted his guess what, kids? ridiculous a$$ TOUPEE!! The look he gave me felt so bizarre, as though I had asked his daughter to join me for a midnight showing of the movie Friday. To make it clearer: I felt like it was 1955, and my name was Emmett Till. Fortunately, another gentleman stepped in as I approached the register for a refund after I'd made the purchase and walked out, only to realize the product the younger employee suggested wouldn't work for my needs. He was kind, courteous, and knowledgeable, and he led me to the correct product while explaining its features. His professionalism saved the sale and bumped my initial one-star rating up to two stars, which I believe is fair. When I returned to the register, guess who was still standing at a distance, staring at me with a blank face? That same motherf*cker wearing a ridiculous A$$ TOUPE!!!! Oh, but wait--did you think it ended there? The younger man who had point-blank LIED TO ME earlier had now joined him. Together, they gave off a sudden vibe that was unmistakably reminiscent of fresh white sheets. To know that people like this still exist is mind-boggling, but fortunately, tools like Yelp now exist to assist you in pencil-whipping these MFs through honest reviews that can significantly impact such businesses.

Normally a good experience but last few times has been annoying...... Tuesday: Dropped in twice…read moreto get a sharpened mower blade I pre-paid for.. it was busy at the pro- counter( only one guy there working with the line) so came back laster.. 2nd time back- got the blade & some chrome polish that rang up 3 bucks more than what was advertised on the shelf. I didnt notice until walking to the car. I waited in line for a $3 credit to my CC. Today, sent my house mate up to get a can of starter fluid to help get the mower running. She came back with a can of Gumout without the straw. She was told didnt need the straw - really ? A hardware associate thinks starter fluid does need the straw ? ROFL. That was the whole reason sending her up there.. if I needed to search out a straw I would have used the half can of starter fluid I already had........ she went back to return and it was a PITA so she just split. Ya'll need to get it together........... Mayfield use to be consistently top notch and now?,,,,,,,,,,, it's hit or miss and lately..........miss. I'm writing this to give constructive feedback not to dog you all......... I want you to succeed because I like the store........until lately.
