First few days we were concerned due to the area and the interesting people in the area. But after a few days we began to feel comfortable. Covered Wagon RV Park is very well kept establishment. The owner (Angie) is and was awesome person to interact with. She always went above and beyond. Inclusive, someone hit my truck and we were able to pinpoint who did it because there are cameras everywhere. The place is well kept and I recommend this place to anyone. At night it is quiet and we slept well in our camper. I will for sure be coming back to stay here and there are shaded spots which was a huge plus. Nobody in office to check in (several arrivals waiting outside locked office with no sign). Countless stray cats roaming grounds. No toilet paper in shower room stalls. Gobs of hair in ALL shower stalls! Faucets leaked more water than they dispensed! Overall, absolutely filthy! When I called the phone number listed "if the bathroom needs attention" they interrupted me and said "We don't service thar facility anymore." It's obvious nobody is servicing the facility. read more

We had site #17. I heard the sound of water running and looked back to see the wires running into the electrical box submerged under water. I ran to the office to report a broken pipe. I was told: "Sorry we didn't tell you but that's how we irrigate our campsite. They literally flood you out. I was sorry I risked I risked unhooking my electricity while standing in inches of water! We immediately hooked and fled. If you decide to stay here make sure your not here on irrigation days. After we left the manager was kind enough to offer a refund and temporary close site #17 but the whole side of the park floods during irrigation. read more

Screw this place! No office presence upon arrival and had to call a number to get my site number. 3 minutes later, I realized my site was occupied, I called back and never got an answer. I called for the rest of the day from my phone and my partners phone with no avail, so, we set up in another site. Halfway through the week, the newly hired manager showed up to tell us we were going to have to move to our original site, once it was vacated. I tried to explain how much work it was to move and offered other solutions many times, but he was adamant on making us move 40 feet so that it was "right on paper". He had no problem bitching about other visitors to me from our first conversation. The entire situation gave me extreme anxiety. Ultimately, each person who pushed back didn't have to move. The squeaky wheel got greased. So, if you choose to stay here and there's a problem, apparently you can just give management hell and get what you want. While there are plenty of warnings in previous reviews about the interstate noise, the homeless population, and the neighborhood, my biggest problem was the park's mis-management. The pool and restrooms were also closed. And when we were departing, the sewer lines backed up and overflowed into the grass. We had to dump our tanks elsewhere. Additionally, somehow, even though we left a day early, I still got charged extra money when my reservation was updated from 8 days to 7. There is nothing that they could have done within their business model to receive a 5 star review from me. I had a truly awful experience here. read more

Would give it a zero if I could! DO NOT stay here! Came for spring training and the campgrounds we have stayed at in the past were booked or have converted to a 3-month minimum stay. Sketchy neighborhood, drug deals outside the wall of the park, homeless everywhere, and it's run down and no room to maneuver your rig. Campers parked in the driveways. No security, no gates/fences, no manager on-site, phone calls/messages unanswered. No one was on-site when we arrived Thursday evening but I had been told by someone connected with the campground via a phone call Thursday afternoon that we had site 14. Guess what? Someone was in our assigned site when we arrived at 10:00pm, so we took the only other site available, #28. When we finally did speak to someone on Saturday of our 4-day weekend stay (Thursday through Monday), she was nice, and assured my husband that the neighbor who walked around with multiple knives on him was harmless! Neighborhood is questionable at best. Surrounded by the freeway and tweekers along freeway wall on one side and an apartment complex on other side. Many full-time residents with run-down rigs, yet they have a minimum age requirement for RVs?? Stay somewhere else! read more

This park was located near a relative we were visiting so was convenient for our purposes. It is near the freeway wedged between many apartments so tended to be slightly noisy. The park is located on the corner of Black Canyon Hwy and Maryland Avenue. The entrance is actually on Maryland Avenue. When you book, you can choose a spot but if you want to guarantee it you pay an additional fee of approximately $25 which my husband didn't do because he thought it was ridiculous. The manager of the park was pleasant but told us that she had a bigger RV coming in so the spot we had chosen wasn't available and we would have to go into an overflow area. She would credit half of the original payment back to us for this inconvenience. The park is in a sketchy area. There is really no place to walk your dogs except on the strips of grass near your RV. There is a city park nearby if you want to walk over the freeway walkway bridge which is just outside the park but homeless like to congregate at the base of that walkway so I never ventured out of the RV park. Do not stay here if you are expecting good wifi. We found the wifi impossible as it kept going in and out. Maybe there was a problem with it during our stay but we never asked so can't say. All and all the nicest description I can give this park is that it is tired. The website pictures make it seem nicer than it actually is. We made it work since it was close to where we wanted to be. read more

This campground's website is not representative of the conditions. The "overflow site" we were assigned was to park directly in front of the restrooms and pool. The sewer connection was a hole in the ground, the electric connection was around the back of the restroom building, and the water connection was at the front of the restroom building. That is not a legitimate full hook up site by any means. This was unacceptable and we found another RV park immediately and left. We will not return and do not recommend this campground at all. read more

We booked a week at the covered wagon and had to vacate after one night. I am not one to complain but this place was not as described. Park filled with permanent residents in sketchy section of the city where loud highway traffic and the very close proximity to other RV's made it impossible to stay. Our spot was a dirt driveway with a shared table with pool guests just outside our door. When we tried to empty the black water the sewage was full to the top. This park is unsafe, unkept, and when we requested a refund for the unused nights they refused only to offer future credit even though their policy states that early termination will result in a prorated refund. read more

If you have a larger rig DO NOT STAY HERE. The way that they park RVs in storage narrows the turn to get out. We clipped the back of our 42 ft 5th wheel on the wall! If only we had read the reviews and seen the photos of the flooded site before we booked. On the last night of a 2-week road trip and after a long day of driving, we arrived late. We were directed to a site that was completely flooded, and the manager had to turn off the breaker before hooking us up to electricity. We had planned on going out to dinner but decided to spend the evening in our trailer. We left our car hooked up, so we'd be ready to go first thing in the morning. At 6:45 a.m. the next day, after wading through thick red mud and water to unhook from the electrical outlet, we pulled out of there. All our connections and the back of our trailer were covered in mud when we left. After a long drive home, we hosed everything off, but my husband's clothing was permanently stained from the mud. I contacted the manager about this, and all I got was excuses. She said she was sorry but "a petroleum-based stain remover will do the trick" and added that she had said to "call me and I would come and unhook if it was still a mess." Right . . . Electrical was not the only hook up, and we were done with this place. Luckily, the on-ramp to 17 South is close by and we were able to fill up with gas just up the road. While we were waiting for the tank to fill, we watched two guys exchanging something for money by a storage area. One of them stayed there (probably waiting for the next customer) and the other urinated against the corner of the building before leaving. All in all, an experience we would prefer not to repeat. A grassy oasis in the desert! This is a wonderful park with friendly, accommodating staff and a cool pool. They even have a vending machine with cold candy bars! Every site has a bit of grass, and most have at least a little shade. It is in a latino neighborhood, so racist people might feel uncomfortable. read more

We have been staying for multiple nights in the springtime for three years now. The Covered Wagon looks better than it ever has. It is retro. It is small. It is what we like. There are several long term occupants. Yea! Boo! Yea, they know the area and are helpful. They are not the nosey Good Sam types who give unsolicited advice. Boo! It means there is not always a selection of spots to choose from. This place is very well located for our needs in Phoenix. The neighborhood is safer today than it was three years ago. Be street wise. Carry a large dog on the end of a leash. Angie manages the place and is very pleasant and acommodating. She may have a hard time saying no to RV'rs without reservations. She does a great job on keeping the place clean. My wish. I wish the owner would purchase adjoining lots and expand/ remodel the whole park. Build a new multipurpose building with showers and laundry and Tiki Bar next to the pool. This could also act as a managers home/office. Add spaces in the same direction to each row headed north. Put a wall up on the north end. I would pay $10.00 a day more for a new and improved Covered Wagon RV Park. Although I love the landscaping, the reality is that water thirsty plants, lawns are on their way out. Replace with stamped concrete and astro- turf. We will come back. read more

Convenient location and EZ access to Black Mountain Freeway offset the startling lack of amenities and indifferent staffing. A hostile check-in process starts things off: If you're lucky, the owner (of the horsey set who lives in the foothills an hour north) will be in the office; if not, you'll have to get lucky dialing one of the several phone numbers posted near the door. DO NOT (even with a confirmed reservation) randomly choose any of the many available sites and plan to check in in the morning, You will be asked to relocate when staff (belatedly) arrives on scene. There is a small pool (unheated), adjacent to the bathhouse, a depression-era affair best used only for the laundry machines. The good news is lots of grass. There are shady sites under the large trees or wide-open sites for the satellite dish crowd. There is electric, sewer, and water, but no phone or cable. In spite of the soundwall, there is some road noise, plus police helicopters frequent the skies above. The immediate neighborhood is dumpy and sketchy-looking but without any real crime problem. About 1/3 of the sites are occupied by permanent residents. We have stayed here several times and will again when we travel to Phoenix. read more

Let me start by saying only reason Im giving a one star is because I have to in order to leave this review! I should have known this was bad when the site says manager on site 24 hours but took 2 days to get someone to answer the phone. Then I asked if we could book with her so we can use military discount as the website would not let us add it she said "I cant right now but if you call me back later I can." Remember already took me 2 days to get her on the phone! So I booked online no biggie just didnt use discount. Day of arrival, this RV park was in probably the worst part of town, homeless people everywhere trashy looking, right next to highway! Didnt look like any of the pictures on site, we requested premium spot all spots look the same, and are all right on top of each other! When we got to office no one there, on door was a sign that read please do not ring door bell call this number, well again we called and called no answer 15 min later a lady walks around corner and said im leaving what do you need, we are like we have a spot paid for, she said oh I didnt know you were coming, im about to leave to put my dog down gave us a paper with wifi and bathroom code says your in lot 18 right there and thats it. So if we would have been 10 min later we would have waited untill she returned which im sorry about her dog but we were there at the check in time should have had someone to cover for her. Site says dog friendly, only thing friendly is they allow them, no room for them to run, play, or go to bathroom. I felt everytime I was walking our dog we were intruding on the RVs next to us. The pool looked same as the pictures except the water was very dirty looking, one of the reasons we stayed here so my daughter could swim. That did not happen! Now the showers, they were clean but there was an RV parked right in front of doors whole time, and no air conditioning so you as soon as your done showering you start sweating becauae it feels like a sauna in there, its Arizona after all 100° at 8am! So my question is how in the world did this place get 4 stars I will never know but I would never stay here again! read more

We went to Phoenix for 2 college graduations from Grand Canyon University. We had 7 people and a gagle of dogs. Angie was amazing, and we found the park to be very nice and quiet (except for our dogs, which we are very sorry for). The grandchildren found the pool to be a lot of fun. The people in the park were very friendly. It was close to shopping and the University. There weren't any "trails", but never expected any. We were told to watch our things at night, which we did and never had a problem. This was a great park for our trip and would suggest it to anybody who wants to stay in Phoenix. Drove in and just kept right on going. Lots of junk vehicles and unkept sites for permanent residents. Surrounding neighborhood was pretty rough looking. Park needs lots of TLC. If you aare looking for a long-term inexpensive place this may be for you. However if you are a snowbird looking for a relaxing vacation spot not so much! read more

RV's parked along the drive maybe in storage or people in them, not sure. Our site was good and full working hookups. Could walk over highway pedestrian bridge to get to Pet Smart dog park on other side, but you don't want to do that at night. It gets pretty iffy outside the park at night. Many homeless people wandering and sleeping about. Houses have bars on the windows. Probably won't stay here again, but it was very convenient for us having some business in north Phoenix. VERY expensive for what it is, because it isn't much. When we first drove in to the campground my immediate impression was of a tired, worn out property. Our site was an extremely small area next to the office with a number of sheds behind us. The water, electric and sewer were fine however, our internet did not work at all. We were told there were computer problems that day and they'd reset it. After about 30 minutes my husband called Angie again to say the internet still wasn't working. He got her voicemail and left a message, she never returned his call. Luckily we only committed to one night, I couldn't wait to get out of there. read more

Had to go to Phoenix for doctor appointments and got to Phoenix kind of late and saw this RV park was close by on my smartphone. The manager, Angie, was able to give me an overflow site and even helped me back up into it with my travel trailer. They were very busy but she was able to let me stay there for two weeks while I took care of my medical care. The park is rather small but very cozy and comfortable. There are lots of trees and lawn. There are a number of long terms people staying there apparently and I had the chance to visit with a number of them. There were very friendly and funny and dog friendly folks. The park has a fantastic location, being just off the freeway but also close to a huge dog park, good shopping and restaurants. Cement walls all around helped keep the noise level very comfortable. The Wi-Fi was better than many places I have visited. And last but not least, the bathrooms and laundry were very nice. When I come back to Phoenix, I will stay there if possible. read more

We would give lower rating but can't. First the park is in a risky neighborhood. We did not know it but we woke up in the moring to police and police helicopter going around and around over the rv park. The police kept saying "Do not try to run, you are surrounded, put your hands up." Now this was at 6 am in the morning on a Sunday! Another thing is that there is a population of people that live in their campers there and do not follow the rules for ALL animals to be on a leash. I have two small dachshunds and a cat was under our camper that we did not know about. It was another campers pet. My dogs do not like cats and my dogs were on leases but when my little one saw the cat....he went after it. The other camper on the other side of us also had a cat off leash. She proceeded to yell at me about my dogs. My husband took our dogs out to potty at 9pm to see a woman with two medium size dogs that were off leash. My dog was on lease and by my camper she was waking around with a flashlight when HER dogs went after my dog which my husband had to pick up to save him from being attacked. This woman works part time at the park and DOES NOT FOLLOW THE RULES. I hated this place the minute I saw it and it is run down, not a good RV place. read more

I'm sorry to say Justine/Spokane , You really must have the Covered Wagon confused with the RV park a few miles from here as that one also has trees and grass but is in a undesirable part of Phoenix. My family always enjoys our stay at the covered wagon and have never seen what you stated. Angy is the greatest at making sure you are you satisfied with your stay. She is pleasant whenever she is approached and always wears a smile. Never seen her impatient or in a grumpy mood. Her priority is the customer and makes sure the place is clean and picks up garbage that people leave on grounds. I recommend the park to all of our friends back home. Let me start by saying that i'm new to the RV lifestyle. With that said my gal and I moved down here to pheniox looking go start fresh and a new adventure. We had made plans to stay at another park but that feel through. So we where given angye' s number and gave her a call. She was very polite and helpful with all the questions we had. She keeps the place up and clean and she is always trying to make improvements. The spaces are a good size and the water and sewer all work good. The pool is blue and the water clean and inviting. She has newly remodeled restrooms and showers and they are clean and fresh. The park also offers laundry room and pop and candy machines. The place is very relaxing and just fun to be here. Where here on a long stay but the overnight and short short stay u won't be disappointed. The park also has fruit trees andvit is yummy and delicious.
