Right after experiencing Natural History Museum, we were in this area and saw this amazing,…read morebeautiful restaurant. Of course, we had to try this. First thing that will struck yoy- is its ambience. It's gloriously lively inside. Shelves are lined with imported goods, with so many items on the wall, and lighting hanging from the ceilings. If you have been to any Turkish shop in a Christmas market, it's the same. Anyway, we waited around 15-20 minutes to get the table. We started with their local beers - Local Beirut beer and Menabrea Beer: I won't say, it was unique, but yeah, it had good taste. We were here with a friend from Amsterdam, and we were having a good time. Server did remind us about the main course.. hahaa.. we ordered * Mixed Grill- Lamb chicken kofta with veggies and sauces * Lamb Kofta Grill -grilled ground lamb with veggies and sauces * Batata Harra - small potato pieces in spices... * Baba Ghanuj- smooth smoked eggplant- that's my fav * Warm Flatbread - their in-house bread with olive oil. Goes with baba ghanuj... what an awesome pair... I could have eaten this only without complaint. The food was plentiful, bright, delicious, and filling without being heavy for one person. And did I mention AWESOME! The tastes, the decor, the service, and the value all came together for a perfect meal in London at Comptoir Libanais. This is an absolutely fabulous spot. Try it out if you are near to Musuem neighborhood.

This is the most beautiful looking Middle Eastern restaurant that I have ever been to. I love the…read morepillows, the drapes, the loungy couches, and the chairs too. The waitresses wore all black, which went with the interior design of the place. Outside of the building, you will see people blowing hookah smoke like wizards from The Lord of the Rings. In front of the woman's bathroom, there is a silhouette of a belly dancer with long flowing hair. In front of the men's room, there is a drawing of a man wearing a thobe, a ghutra, an egal, and he is holding one of those long curved canes from the biblical era. The chicken kafta was delicious and they gave me just the right amount of food. They put tasty green powdery stuff in my tomato slices. It was also my first time drinking moroccan tea, which I should say was really good after eating mint leaves. They told me not to tip them, which is something that I am not used to, because I am from the U.S., but it's common in England and Spain. The waiters are nice people. I accidentally knocked over an empty beer bottle with my umbrella, and nobody got upset. A waiter just offered to take my giant UK flag umbrella, and save it up front for me to pick it up later. I was really anxious, I apologized twice, and then my waitress said, it's okay, with a smile, and then another waitress cleaned it up. Thank you Mamounia for being a great part of my vacation!

This was my worst Saint Valentine's evening ever. My girlfriend and I had a truly chaotic…read moreexperience, and I felt greatly embarassed toward her. Upon arrival, we waited for over 10 minutes in the lobby, without any welcome drink. Once we were eventually taken to our seats, I was surprised to find out straight away that the staff was on hedge and very unfriendly. Although it was a busy evening, the (high) price paid simply did not match the level of service received. The room was extremely loud, and there was too much proximity between tables to enable any intimacy. After receiving our starter, we waited for over an hour, and, despite my several questions to the waiters, we never got our main meal. We eventually left, hungry, and frustrated. At that time, most restaurants were closed which put me in a very uncomfortable situation with my girlfriend. Finally, the fact that dinner was paid ahead of the event really creates a sentiment of being robbed.

(Yes I realize my own creepiness) First of all, I will preface this by saying I went to this place for three reasons! 1. Bamia 2. Fatta 3. Oma Ali I've been to a couple of Egyptian restaurants that while good, they didn't have some really traditional Egyptian menu items. So when I saw these three Egyptian favourites, I had to come check this place out!!! Given the location, it's almost given that this is a white table top, high service type of place. It's a cute and cosy space that while it doesn't scream "Egyptian place", it does subtlety send messages to your stomach saying "you want to eat here". Although the prices are not comparable to actually being in Egypt, I thought it wasn't that bad. For four people eating like schwein and drinking wine (hey that rhymed!), the end bill was pretty reasonable! Now, before I get your hopes up, the majority of the fairly small but complete menu is what I would call typical white people food (can I say that?) Like fillet of steaks, chicken, pasta, etc. But if I were you (and we did the same) I would definitely try for some of the more Egyptian dishes like Okra with Lamb and Fatta. Don't know Fatta? Imagine frying up slices of thin pita, putting it with some rice, then pouring a garlicky vinegar finish over it. I'll just tell you now, it's nummy and MUST be a side dish if you come here! The service as well was excellent! We got complimentary hummus and baba ganoush and at the end, a nice sweet wine to help settle our 110% full stomachs! All in all, had a great experience and the owner Aladin came after our meal to say hi and shake our hands. Shokran for the nice meal!
