Perfect service and delicious food in Kensington! Three of us meet up here for a pre-Christmas catch-up lunch in London. We knew we'd be in Kensington, so I looked for a somewhere with good reviews that also takes reservations, and I came across this place and was intrigued by the Egyptian-influenced menu. We had such a good time that we've already been recommending it to others!
We made a reservation for noon, which is when it opened for the day. We were given a nice table right by the window, and our coats were taken for us, which was a nice touch. The server was very professional, and he shared his insights on the menu to help us order great dishes. We each selected a starter and a glass of red wine. We'd eaten quite heavily over the weekend, so I opted for the cauliflower side dish as a light starter. It was perfectly cooked and had a slight smokey flavor, and the chili was light, so no issue for anyone who doesn't like spicy food. My dining companions also gave rave reviews of their starters: the prawns (shrimp) and the mussels. For the main course I opted for the small roasted chicken, rice, and special spinach soup. What delicious flavors! I was expecting spices similar to Moroccan or Tunisian, but it was lighter than these and heavier on the garlic, closer to Lebanese food. It was light but very filling. We'd loved the food so much we opted to share the two of the desserts that the server said were typical of Egypt: Om Ali and another that was similar to a panna cotta. I loved, LOVED, the Om Ali! It was warm, and creamy, and the phyllo was so soft and chewy. And to complement it all, the restaurant brought us a really nice Muscat on the house!
Everything we ate was so well done, and the service was polite, professional, and perfectly attentive. I would eat here again in a heartbeat! read more
