My wife and I stopped here for lunch on Jan 27 at about 1:30 PM. This place is a typical "mom and pop" diner type restaurant in a small town. Most of the menu is devoted to breakfast and lunch choices, although there are also a few different larger entrée "dinner type" choices on the menu too. We both ordered a cheeseburger deluxe, plus one iced tea, one soft drink, and we split an order of fried onion rings. The order of onion rings was very large in size and actually quite good. The Cheeseburger deluxe however, could use some improvement. The lettuce and tomato fixings were fine but the roll was stone cold like it had just been taken out of the refrigerator. The beef burger was generous in size, but relatively tasteless and too well done for our tastes. The service was excellent. Our waitress was helpful, friendly, and attentive. The restaurant dining area is quite small, but can probably seat around 15-20 people total. While we would not order a cheeseburger deluxe at this restaurant again when we return it's likely that we would be ordering a crispy chicken salad which we noticed another diner ordered that look delicious. The bill for the luncheon was $29.95 and included tax. I left a 20% tip because the service from the waitress was excellent. It's likely that we will eat at this restaurant again because we discovered an excellent Memory Lane Antique Mall 1 mile down the street from the restaurant that is one of the best antique malls we have visited in quite a while. This is the antique mall that used to be located in Westminster, Maryland and moved to Taneytown, Maryland about two years ago. There were a lot of very nice antique items displayed in attractive well staged booths and the prices were very reasonable. I only awarded three stars because of the quality of the cheeseburger we ordered as well as the overall pretty expensive price of the lunch ($36 total). I will consider raising my rating when we return and try some of the other menu items. read more

My GF and I were in town for a wedding. Looking for a local place for breakfast, read reviews, decided to give them a try. Walked in, no acknowledgment, saw sign that said seat yourself. Found a clean table, sat and grabbed menus. While reviewing and discussing menu 6 others walked in. They were immediately acknowledged and told to sit anywhere. The server walked past us to assist them. Server needed an extra menu...saw that there was one at our table but went across the room to get one for them, then proceeded to walk back past us again with zero acknowledgment. That was all we needed to see to recognize what kind of establishment this is. Unless you're local and white, do NOT give this place your business. read more

visiting the area for family weekend at Mount St.Mary's university. Went to breakfast here after reading good reviews. We had a party of 8 and we were all underwhelmed with the food. The potatoes were soggy, and tastless, the eggs Benedict had a cold piece of ham lunchmeat slapped on an English muffin that wasn't even toasted. The hollandase had no taste. The poached egg was good but slightly overcooked. Another person in our party got french toast that looked like regular toast, no flavor and barely toasted. The positive points are that the pancakes were good, the waitress was nice, and the coffee was hot and they kept your cup filled. i Would probably not return here for breakfast when visiting the area again. read more

My business visitors from Germany would make me drive from the airport in Baltimore straight to the country Kitchen to start their stay in the US. We went here to breakfast . Very small restaurant, very friendly servers. I had pancakes eggs potatoes and chip beef gravy and sausage links. The pancakes were large, I asked for a box . You will get food poisoning here. We sat at the counter looking right at the open kitchen. We watched the "chef" pick up raw bacon with her bare hands, place a bunch on the grill, wipe her hands on a dirty rag (which must have so much bacteria on it), and then pick up toast with the same bare hands and put it on someone's plate. She took it one step further and then dug her hands into a bag of chips and put those on plates for people. She was touching everything. If you walk out of here without food poisoning, go buy a lottery ticket. This is the only time in my life I stood up and got the check without taking a bite of my food. read more

Went to breakfast on a recommendation and we were not impressed. We had a large party and it was nice that we were able to call ahead and they reserved us a table on a Sunday morning at 9:00. that was where our good experience ended. Our food was less than mediocre. The home fries left puddles of oil on the plates, the French toast was just "toast" -there was no evidence of any egg/milk batter at all. the English muffin on the eggs Benedict was not toasted, and the ham was stone cold. The food had no taste or seasoning. The upsides -nice waitress, being able to reserve a table, good coffee. Do yourself a favor, go somewhere else read more

Pro's: Prompt Service, Good Biscuits and Gravy, portions Con's: Coffee, Processed Cheese I had a Western Omelet, Biscuits and Gravy, and coffee. This is your standard diner, with lots of grease and big portions. I ordered the omelet and was a bit disappointed with the American Cheese (processed squares), as an ingredient in the omelet. The coffee was standard diner coffee, dark dishwater. Also, I asked for Tabasco sauce and I got a bottle of what tasted like Frank's Red Sauce. I'm not sure if that's an MD, PA thing or what, but it's the third restaurant I've been in with this red sauce that tastes similar to Frank's. The service was excellent. I had chipped beef gravy with biscuits too. I was expecting a small side, but it was a whole meal by itself. They served me (4) 4inch by 4 inch square biscuit halves swimming in gravy. My son and I stopped in for lunch and the place was packed. We were not sure if we were supposed to wait to be seated or if we should seat ourselves. We stood at the entrance and waited for 2-3 minutes without being acknowledged. I told my son, if we can't get enough service to be greeted or seated, who knows if we would get waited on. So we left. On our way to ski liberty this is a great stop. A cozy traditional American breakfast and lunch restaurant. Food is good and prices are good. We got quick service too. I can't agree with another reviewer. Service is small town but that isn't bad. Besides, it is small enough that if one of them disappeared, not likely, another would be by in a moment. Food is cooked as you order so there is a bit of a wait. Specials of the day is somewhat quicker. I have never been disappointed by their food and highly recommend their chicken/bacon/swiss. About the only thing I would change are their fries. They aren't bad just about a middle rating. Breakfast is great and they have a good variety to offer. Country Kitchen takes you back to a simpler time where people know each other and visit across tables and the wait staff gets to know you too. read more

My husband and I dined here for breakfast after attending a wedding the night before at the Antrim. There is not much to choose from in the area but based on the good reviews we decided to give this place a try. I got the Western omelet and opted for the $1 add for peppers and onions in my home fries. Totally worth it. I only ate half of both and took the rest home for breakfast tomorrow. Definitely a shareable meal. My husband got the 2 biscuits and gravy dish and a side of scrapple. Biscuits and gravy were good but I always prefer my own recipe. Also a shareable meal. The scrapple was 2 large cuts - nice and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Coffee was your average weak diner coffee, but the staff kept it coming along with water. All very friendly and attentive. $24 and some change for everything. Awesome breakfast and we would totally go back if we are ever in that area again. read more
