Does anyone remember Formica? That old fashioned kitchen counter material that everyone used before tile? Then tile was replaced by granite, remember? Well, for a newly remodeled garage, what materials are available that are durable enough for weekend work, cheap enough to compete with plywood, and attractive enough to place next to brand new cabinets? Yup, I bought Formica.
It's really hard to find folks that can come to your home, measure, manufacture custom cuts and then install them. I looked for a long time and, still, I have not found them. I ended up doing the measurements myself and driving to this place in Anaheim. This place really does cater to institutional work like restaurants and offices but you can walk in for residential jobs. They have a ton of samples on hand in every color and pattern you can imagine, different brands , textures and styles that mimic the look of wood or granite.
The salesperson went through the cuts, the over hangs, thicknesses....finished vs. plain edges.... And different shapes to the edges. I was told it would take two weeks for my color but they showed up at my door in about 4 days. I still need to do the installation myself but that's real easy to screw in from the bottom up.
The finished look was exactly what we were going for. read more
