Barber Shops are iconic in our minds, either from childhood or the cinema they conjure ones imagination. Being a creative wild man I generally keep the beard to Bonsai like perfection. For a variety of reason I decided to grow my whiskers out. Work rigors and other obligations didn't leave me with as much time for self in recent months. My gal scoped out Cotter Barber and thought that would be my type of spot. Well low and behold she was right, and some after holidays pampering was in tall order. So I made an appointment because their gal Sarah was best with long haired gents. She listen very attentively to my requirements, I'd even brought a few pictures of my style and other looks I felt reflected my desired experience. What I was seeking was exactly what she determined was its healthiest length. It's certainly manageable now without excess when It needs to be tied back, and looks great loose. As an option I decided on the beard treatment, and that was an the best experience. Last few month left me bushier than usual, I also wanted some help reshaping my whiskers. The pampering, products and straight razor cut were a needed luxury...one that I look forward to repeating again. This is a definite go to spot for long and short hairs alike. As a editorial hairstylist with over 15 years in the business sometimes you just need to trust in a fellow barber. I've had my haircut by many friends; on set off of set. I've even delved into the Dominican barber for years!!!! On a last minute whim of just needing a touch of the clipper before an early morning flight I walked into Cotter at 830pm and asked the lone hair slayer, OWEN if he would PLEASEEEEEEE just take me from vagabond gypsy, completely over grown and unpolished .... To Well!!! something new! I live across the street and pop in often for a cold brew... But I really just did not want to return home and frankly handle the situation myself. Without a bat of an eye he obliged my despair and handled it like a master. I always have gripes and tweaks... I'm SASSOON trained stylist! It's all about precision. But frankly OWEN is truly talented, crafted and on point with what I wanted and needed... The kids one to definitely book with! Oh and I have a huge problem with sitting for a cut so if you can't do it in 30 min!!!! IM DONE. Record time 27 min.... YESSSSS I watched the clock. I needed to pack for my 6am flight. All in all! Went in yesterday for a haircut and received a cut from Robert. Robert is the man! He gave me a really nice cut and took his time. I told him I was going to a wedding this weekend, so he really wanted to make sure my hair was sharp. A bit pricey, but the best place I've been for a haircut since I can remember. Absolutely worth it. I've had a few guys cut my hair there. I forget the other guys names but go with Jesse or Manuel and you won't regret it! Both are top notch barbers that work hard to make you look good and feel good. read more

Nice place with nice people. I've gone a few times only ever had one guy who cut my hair. Always a nice experience. Seemed a little pricey, but the big thing is I work with a guy who also cuts hair and he would tell me to try somewhere new and after going here a few times in a row I just tried a new spot and today he came in and saw my haircut and said "there you go you went to a new place didn't you" and complimented the cut, fading etc which was a bit of an eye opener for me that he could immediately tell. read more

My husband went over for a haircut and shave and boy was he impressed. He came home so excited that he finally found a great place for haircuts. Here's what he told me. The ambiance is so chilled out. Nice music and staff is overall sweet. The barista offered him coffee as He walked in. What more can you ask for. He got his haircut and shave from Eddy. I've now been coming here for a year and a half. I've had 4 different barbers in that timespan, and have never been disappointed by a cut. They each have their own style, but cuts look great each time. The attention to detail is what keeps me coming back. Why only 4 stars ? Unfortunately today I was scheduled for a 7:30pm. At 4:30pm I called to see if they had any earlier appointments. The woman on the other end of the phone said we have a 6:30pm. I said great. Fast forward : it's now 6pm, and I'm in an Uber on my way to Cotter from Manhattan. I get a call from same woman asking where I was for my 5:30pm appointment. I said "you mean 6:30, and I'm on my way". What then followed was her calling this a miscommunication, and saying she's quite sure she never said 6:30. Due to my location and the time I originally called, I would have never agreed to a 5:30, since I could not have make it in time. Anyway, I do understand miscommunications happen, but I was disappointed on how the situation was handled. I was told it wouldn't be fair towards the other customers to be bumped, which is true, but what about me ? I'm the one left hanging here. The person on the phone basically implied that I heard it wrong. I ended up re booking for the next day because I do like the place and my barber, but was very put off at how the situation was handled. Gabriel **UPDATE** Within less than an hour of posting this review, I get a call back from Gabriella apologizing for the mix up and offering to comp my next haircut. Meh, this place seems pretty cool from the outside but their customer service is way lacking. I walked in to look at their products to maybe find something for my boyfriend. I was greeted warmly by the barista in front but the man behind the reception desk didn't even look up. I was the only customer in the store, no one getting haircuts or anything, it was pretty quiet. When I asked about certain products he gave me very curt and general descriptions.. I just wanted some guidance in choosing the right product for my guy! Welp:( So eventually feeling a little awkward blindly browsing their huge wall of products, I headed out. I wasn't compelled to spend money here. I get really nervous before a haircut and even more when I'm doing a walk-in... thankfully I left with a smile on my face... I think I've never had a better haircut in my life, dude was like a barber magician, meticulously cutting away at my hair. Wow, I don't know if we were incredibly unlucky and got a hairdresser straight off the 'I've never cut hair before boat' but wow my kids 13 & 10 got the worst, most bizarre, think of the flock of seagulls any 80's band and that's what my kids looked like. It's was a couple of months ago but the youngest ones hair is still growing out, it now looks more like a page boy style, the eldest who is a handsome boy looks like a homeless kid. Where the heck are these good reviews coming from? The shop and the cafe are attractive, but you need more than that to keep customers coming back--not to mention to hold on to good staff. The atmosphere in there was sickeningly toxic--not what you want to get out of a place where you're supposed to be pampered. The barber and barista seemed nice enough, but unfortunately lacked experience and expertise, especially relative to the prices. The worst part were the people who were the owners or managers or both. There was one guy who was actually yelling at people in person and on the phone, and when he wasn't doing that, he was shamelessly primping and brushing his hair while admiring himself in the mirror! Eww. Good thing he loves himself so much cuz I doubt he gets it from anyone else. There was another probably management type guy who, unfortunately for the people who do all the real work, showed absolutely no sense of how to treat other human beings. In the short time I was there, he snapped at or treated everyone (except Mr. Primpy McNarcissist) with such a snarky insulting tone, I couldn't wait to get out and breath the relatively refreshing Manhattan Avenue air. read more

WOW! What a wonderful experience all around! I surprised my boyfriend with a shave on his birthday and he loved it more than I could have even imagined. It was super easy to plan ahead and book an appointment complete with a birthday candle. They serve Four Barrel coffee in all forms, including cold brew. Ovenly cookies, too! Besides the soothing ambience, with carefully furnished wood shelving, old-school straight-razors and shaving cream dispensers to boot. Everyone was so nice and accommodating. The music was great. Beautiful space and even more beautifully mannered people work here- tried the lemonade with strawberries - very refreshing without any added sugar.
