He's got an amazing eye and cuts your hair with amazing technique. He also gives an adequate amount of time and effort to making sure you get the look you want. Aside from the amazing haircuts, they offer delicious artisanal pastries and great coffee for FREE (how do these guys make money?!), Everyone working here working here are super friendly. This place is DOPE. I've been to pretty much every barber joint in Greenpoint/ Williamsburg, and this one's by far the best. It's a lil bit more expensive, but not by much, and definitely worth the experience and the cut. Some notes: 1. It's beautiful. Really nice to be inside. 2. You get a nice drink, which sets a chill mood. 3. I had Eddie, and he actually was nice to talk to. Admittedly, I'm shitty at barber talk but he kept the convo smooth. 4. Although this review isn't for the barbers I have to say that it's the best place I've tried in Greenpoint for a latte. I've lived in the neighborhood for 3 years now and have tried a lot of cafes and coffee shops around here. (It's NY- we NEED coffee). The shop itself is really nice and so is the staff when you walk in. Always nice to go into a new spot and not feel uncomfortable glances as you look around. Fantastic service at a very reasonable price: visiting from out of town and needed an unruly beard lined up and trimmed, called from a block away and was able to be seated in a chair no more than 10 minutes later. The shop is beautifully put together and immaculately kept, the staff was friendly and approachable, especially Robert, who quickly cleaned up my mess of a midwestern beard before offering an additional face mask treatment. I'm hear to tell you, for an extremely modest upcharge it was a fantastically relaxing and luxurious experience! Had the staff not been so swift I think I would have checked out the lovely coffee shop accompanying their shop, but I did avail myself of their impressive selection of grooming creams and tools to add a high-quality comb to my dopp kit. I almost gave up on this Barber but I didn't. The place is local and the team may be new. I came in there a 2nd time and I was not satisfied with my haircut so the manager Brian comped it. A couple weeks later I scheduled and there was a miscommunication issue, unexpectedly the manager comped my haircut. I came out with a great haircut but the customer service is a reason I will come back I highly recommend. This place. Ask for Alice or Alex for a haircut but I'm sure you will find others that you will like here too. Thank you Brian for you customer service. I'm a big fan of this place. I hadn't gotten a real haircut in around 20 years - I'd been buzzing my own hair since high school. I was getting married last February and decided to get myself a proper cut and shave. I loved the cut, shave and customer service so much that I've been going back every 3 weeks or so since then. Been coming here intermittently for a while. Today I had a seriously disappointing experience. Normally $20 for a buzz cut. Today I was told that "more than one number" constitutes a regular haircut and thus I was charged $40 for a 10 minute buzz because I wanted a shorter number on the side. Hilarious yet depressing policy. Literally the only place in New York I've ever heard of that. For the record, the "buzz" is always good and the barbers are all nice. I recently moved to Brooklyn and i've been looking for a good place to get my hair cut. I found Cotter online and I couldn't be more satisfied. The atmosphere was awesome and everything down to the music played into the vibe. It's not the cheapest alternative but by no means is it crazy expensive. Barber Shops are iconic in our minds, either from childhood or the cinema they conjure ones imagination. Being a creative wild man I generally keep the beard to Bonsai like perfection. For a variety of reason I decided to grow my whiskers out. Work rigors and other obligations didn't leave me with as much time for self in recent months. My gal scoped out Cotter Barber and thought that would be my type of spot. Well low and behold she was right, and some after holidays pampering was in tall order. So I made an appointment because their gal Sarah was best with long haired gents. She listen very attentively to my requirements, I'd even brought a few pictures of my style and other looks I felt reflected my desired experience. What I was seeking was exactly what she determined was its healthiest length. It's certainly manageable now without excess when It needs to be tied back, and looks great loose. As an option I decided on the beard treatment, and that was an the best experience. Last few month left me bushier than usual, I also wanted some help reshaping my whiskers. The pampering, products and straight razor cut were a needed luxury...one that I look forward to repeating again. This is a definite go to spot for long and short hairs alike. The haircuts are decent but the wait is not worth it. You have to allocate at least an hour for the very nice but tentative barber to get through it. Although this is what the market can bear apparently, prices at at Cotter Barber are much too high for what you get. As for the "cafe," it is mediocre on its best day. This, on top of it being overpriced and the service being abysmal. The neighborhood is not the least bit improved by its existence. ps: can someone please explain the general disposition of people that fill coffee cups for a living in Brooklyn?
