" you're with Nick, he'll be done in 5 minutes please have a seat." 5 minutes passed like 20. I was chopping off my brown locks of which so many previous barbers and Salonistas have objectified "your grandfather blessed you huh," complimenting me with confounding wide eyes. I needed like Jesus to resurrect. Hairs a good place to start I had thought, probably influenced subconsciously by those characters on TV or films who chop off their all comfortable mane as to do shock therapy in the mirror or maybe I just wanted attention. Then I was in the chair at 3:30. I sheepishly showed him a picture of the cut that would be my dice toss. "High and tight" I was going all in like they do in Poker or those other Casino games ( which I actually have never played and don't intend to because gambling seems insidious and addiction runs in the family. ) His eyes jolted, catching him stunned then helplessly letting out a little smile like "this little white boy is really going to go for it, fuck it might look good on him" Then back to business, absolutely making positive with me that I wanted exactly the cut this 8 Mile looking kid with the wife beater in the picture had. I nodded becoming a bobble head giving an affirmative green light, consenting to be whacked and mowed. "Top too" "What?" "Top shaven too" "Oh yes. Exactly like the picture!." Still bobble heading before I ran out of that little barber shop like the back door of your neighborhood dive when you see the catfish your lazy tech fueled dating attempts brought in, as he, like a gourmet chef squinting at a fascistic and novel food swap request, made absolutely explicit the terms of my request. Business is business. Then he gently wrapped paper around my neck and then draped the classic robe, needlessly protecting a no effort Sunday dress , as Nick got right to work without those phony pleasantries and small talk of which I've never felt spurred to engage in but ,polite as I am, nonetheless entertain because, like a work of art or a meal, all that goes in to the work will show, and if a barber should feel ignored or made invisible, then this feeling would reflect in my hair. Thank god then the next half hour was silent as he sculpted with blade and razor, as if Sweeney Todd was on Lexapro, his only concern was on applying his tried craft to the customer patronizing his workplace, occasionally stepping back like a sculptor to take in the progress of his recent markings or very gently turning my stoic cheek left or right as needed to access the angle of attack. This was a man whose put in his 10,000 hours on the job because for him this high and tight fade was executed with a swift , calm but unflinching focus, like a routine ground ball to first base, take your eye off the ball and you may make an amateurs error, Nick doesn't take his eye off the ball and it seemed like the other barbers in there worked with just as much commitment and talent, providing excellent and tailored service to whoever should be their trustees . "Okay.. good?" Nick asked me after cleaning with a brush the loose little hairs around my scalp And then I just couldn't believe the mirror. I was Dorian Gray realizing the picture was of him. And I felt something unusual.. a latent puberty perhaps? For in that moment all the depictions of brutal masculinity we get assaulted with in the media suddenly made sense, not in the mind, but lower....in the soul I think. I left Elegant all the 30$ poorer (save for an undisclosed generous cash tip) , with a limitless swagger, feeling the all too late eastern winters 11'O Clock wind bitterly brush through my newly unclad scalp, gently teasing of what's to be a marvelous spring bloom. No, AI did not write this. No, I am no poet or author. I am a young man who's now just- a man. The simple ecstasy of my day. Gambling on a new barber while simultaneously impulsively intending on a suicide bomb of the hair-do, with merely a prayer that it may change things for the better. Oh and alas then Miracles as the master blesses you, the giver of a swag until now had been in a virgins shrouds. 10/10. Would recommend to all grooming mortals.

He instantly nodded and seemed to understand everything I was asking, including length of the sides. By the end of the haircut, he had trimmed half of my hair off, front and back, killing the volume I had and gave me a high fade which I never asked for. My hair is now completely flat with no waves, super short where it looks like a military buzz, and the back of my head is now all the same length despite me asking for layering. I'm going to have to wear a cap for the next 2 months. It looks like a cheap haircut you can get anywhere for $15 instead of the $50 I paid. Completely amateurish and fraudulent. Unfortunately, the past three visits have left me frustrated. I usually book with Yuriy, who is an excellent barber and has always given me great haircuts. The issue is that Yuriy has not shown up for my last three scheduled appointments made through their online booking system. That system allows you to choose a specific barber and time, but if the barber doesn't actually check or honor those appointments, it defeats the purpose. The first two times this happened, I got a haircut from the other 2 barbers in the shop; one the first time, the other the second time. The results were ok--not bad, but not at the same level as Yuriy's work. The third time, Yuriy again didn't show up, and one of the other 2 barbers called him. Yuriy was apologetic, and asked me to come back the following day at a specific time, which I did, but once again he didn't show, and after waiting around for 15 minutes, I left. I don't mind trying different barbers, but once I found a barber I like I prefer to stick to him. if I book a specific person and they repeatedly fail to honor appointments, it feels unprofessional and unreliable. At that point, there's no reason for me to keep booking here when I could just walk into another shop. It's unfortunate, because Yuriy is truly very good. But unless the booking system and reliability improve, I can't recommend this barbershop if you want a specific barber to cut your hair.

I recently moved to New York at the beginning of the month from West Africa, and with unpacking boxes and trying to familiarize myself with the city, I had no time for a haircut because I did not want to get lost. I reached out to a friend that lives in Brooklyn and he referred me to George's 2 Barber Shop. I then took the train to Brooklyn and it was great. As I first walked through the door, they were very inviting and welcomed me in. It was a very friendly and family oriented environment. Within five minutes I started to get my haircut, but to be honest I was skeptical about it because with me being African American, the texture of and thickness of my hair, certain clippers only work. But they proved me wrong! I looked and my hairline looked amazing and my shape-up was clean and sharp, I felt like a brand new gentleman. Oh and with the inexpensive pricing for a haircut, it is the passion that they have for being incredible artists. I left George's 2 with a piece of mind and traveling thirty minutes from my house is worth it. I will be returning soon because this is the barbershop in town. Thank You George's 2 Barber Shop! **KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC WORK** read more

Prior to finding this barbershop, I spent over 6 months jumping from barber to barber, from queens to the city. Hard to find an affordable barber that can get you a super clean look. I found this place about a year ago, browsing through yelp reviews. Never looked back again; I've gotten a cut from three guys here in total, and received quality cuts. Nathan, though, will give you the best fade you can ask for. King of fades in this shop, and always has an interesting story to talk about. Got many cuts from him, and he blessed me everytime, from the midskin fade, to the tapers and the shapeups, etc. If Nathan's not in, I go to Mark, who is also a masterful barber in his own way. He also has the best haircut of the barbers there, and of course Nathan cuts his hair as well. This place also has free complementary drinks. From a Budweiser to a shot of tequila (its legit). The price is hard to beat as well, as barbers in the city, and especially this part of brooklyn charge well over $20. Come here all the time now. read more

I signed up to yelp specifically to review this place. By far the best barbershop I've been to in a while and here's a few reasons: 1- They have multiple highly skilled barbers. Usually barbershops will have 2 or 3 "main barbers" that get most clients and obviously have more skill. Not here! Since I started coming here 2 years ago, I've had 5 different barbers give me a cut and each did a solid job. They were all very friendly, professional and really listened to what I wanted.; 2- they have drinks! I mean, what manly grooming salon is complete without a few brews?! Free beer in the fridge, free liquor in the cabinet. Cheers to that!; 3- Location and vibe. The shop is right on fifth avenue, directly next to some REALLY good food spots. They're 2 blocks from the Barclays Center and most major trains at Atlantic Ave. The barbers are very welcoming when you enter and you're usually already in a seat within the first 10 min. Overall a great place and would DEFINITELY recommend! read more

Thanks to Milana for what is hands down the best haircut I've ever received. My girlfriend suggested this spot after she asked some guys around her office where they got haircuts. I hesitated since I live in Williamsburg, but the trip was worth it. Since moving to Brooklyn I've been bouncing around haircut spots for months trying to find a decent barber, which is a terrible idea since things always just end up getting worse (i.e. barber 2 tries cleaning up barber 1's mess, barber 3 cleans up barber 2's, etc.). Milana ended up cleaning ALL of their messes up. She took her time, listened to my concerns, and took excellent care of me. After my haircut I got a beard trim and she took her time and did a fantastic job with that too. In the end, after about an hour of hard work from Milana, the total was under $30. I was shocked since lately I've been paying more for much less. Suffice it to say, I'll be coming back to Milana for my next cut, and I'll be coming back often. read more

Nathan is by far the best barber I've ever had!!!!! I'm a big cynic and possibly a bigger critic fortunately or unfortunately lol but I had to go out of my way and write this review. I looked for a good barbershop in Brooklyn for 4 months before I finally came here. Everywhere I went they always either cut it unevenly or my fade looked like it was doing the tootsie roll on my head due to the uneven dancing of the fade. It got to the point where I went to the city twice but was equally let down when I paid almost $30 for haircuts and wasn't impressed. Nathan took care of me! He gave me an amazing fade and we had a great conversation. At George's 2 they have great beers anything from IPAs to Lagers to light beers and a nice Hard liquor selection. With the humidity like it's been in Ny it has been extremely refreshing to grab a cold beer while getting a haircut. This place is definitely highly recommend by me!! If Nathan isn't in Joe Mark or Tim are very good as well. :) read more

Been my barbershop for about a year but no more. Cuts are standard. Been debating whether to leave a review as i had my hair cut about 2 weeks ago but I had to. I arrived at around 6:30 on a weekday and wanted to wait for a specific barber to cut my hair. Nothing wrong with that right? However, that option was taken away from me and 2 barbers were pushing for me to go to another barber. Keep in mind that there was only 1 person in front of me. I told the barber "No thank you but i will wait for my barber" His response was " Ok whatever" in a pretty rude tone. I needed a cut so I just went for it. The cut was fine but the barbers would look at my hair and say something in a different language. I have noticed that for the past few cuts but just decided to leave it alone. However, it has gotten to a point where it will not be tolerated. If you need a standard cut, this is the place but i will no longer be coming here . read more

I visited George's 2 for the first time today and will most certainly be returning. First thing to mention is that they close at 8 - not 10 (as mentioned on Google) but this isn't a problem as i'd recommend them without a shadow of doubt. I arrived at 8 and, despite the fact that they were closing, was greeted with an extremely pleasant welcome and told to take a seat anyway. Ralph was extremely friendly, and exceedingly particular and thorough when cutting my hair, to ensure that he was getting everything exactly as I wanted - even though it was past closing time. I was offered a beer and treated brilliantly throughout with class service and a great haircut! My haircut this time wasn't exactly how I'd normally have it - but it was my first visit and it looks great regardless - I'm confident that over my coming visits it will be perfect every time!\\ 10/10 for service and value for money ($16) - thanks, Ralph! read more

Mark is the epitome of an official barber! Let me start off by saying, for the craft he performed and with the quality of customer service he provided, 16 bucks is nothing. There are many places that would charge you well over triple the amount and would perform a half ass job. I actually drove out there from Westchester (one hour drive) and it was definitely worth it! To sum up the perks: 1. Attention to detail 2. Precision (like a surgeon's hand) 3. Accommodating 4. High quality tools 5. Minimal wait time 6. Entertaining conversations 7. Last but not least, makes you look dapper! For anyone who is nostalgic for an old school barber feel, but also wants someone with an understanding to modern styles, this is the place to go. Do yourself a favor and drop by George's when you're feeling scruffy. I guarantee you won't regret it. Sincerely, One happy customer! read more

George II is everything that a barber shop should be. I live 2 blocks away and I am delighted to have them in the neighborhood. I have always had my hair cut at a select few, very good, very expensive barber shops in Manhattan. George II is right on par with these places for about 1/2 the price. I work in Midtown and it is difficult to get away for a trim. Now, instead of having to leave work early or sneak away at lunch, I can just get my "businessman's cut" either when I go home or on the weekend (they are even open on Sunday). The guys are appropriately friendly and enjoyable. The wait is usually minimal. When there is a wait you comfortably watch the flat-screen TV and read Maxim, et al. in their ample sitting area. You leave clean-cut and shaven with a warm shot of Cognac in your belly and/or a lollipop. Done deal. Two Thumbs up! read more

First time going here and it won't be my last! Now, I won't boast about how awesome this place is (other reviews do a truthful job at that) but MARK is the man! The moment when he referred to his artistry as a Stylist with a Master Barber's License and a Cosmetology License, I knew I was in the hands of a person who loved their craft. They have an amazing reward program that can get you free haircuts or products. My only wish is to be able to make appointments in the future. I would love the comfort in knowing that I will see my barber when I need too. Zero complaints though. Staff was great, the vibe was chill and people obviously like this place and for good reason. Lady customer here, and it's definitely hard to find a barber (even in the slope, believe it or not!) who will cut my hair (generic short cut - clean up the sides with a clipper, scissor trim on top) without fear, rudeness, or an attitude since it is still pretty much a boys' club even if they say they cut ladies. The guys at George's 2 are a professional bunch. There's never too long a wait (maybe 15 minutes at their busiest?), and everyone is respectful, friendly and listens to what you need and makes sure you are happy. They also have a fun assortment of libations and candies that I haven't had the chance to try. It's still a little awkward to be female in any barber shop but these guys at George's 2 make it easier. They are my go-to for a quick walk-in cut for cheap. Will keep coming back! Happy customer. :o) read more

I love these guys. I never got compliments on my hair until I started coming here. I'm no great shakes, but now people stop me on the street to say they think my hair is cool. (I wear a disconnected undercut that's a bit longer and floppy on top.) One French woman at the Met asked if I was an artist after complimenting my cut. And I seem to get more glances from the men than the standard long locks ever garnered. I'm sure all the guys here are great, but Joe and Mark and Ralph are my darlings. Hanging out a bit at the barber shop is the highlight of my day and I immediately look forward to the next time I'll be back. And all the men I see leaving look sharp (and sexy). George's 2 used to be my favorite secret, but I guess I'll have to start telling everyone. It's definitely the first place you should go. read more

Amazing place to get a cut. Best barbershop that I've gone to so far. The place is small but has a nice amount of seats and from the moment I walked in, Rafael took the time to listen for what I wanted. I didn't have to wait for a line but it was 12:30pm do I don't know if that's just not a busy hour. Every detail I told my barber Tim, he made happen along with asking about parts I haven't explained to him. Free whiskey and water is pretty nice. I was handed water while getting my haircut. They were very welcoming as well. I like how some barbers explained why they were doing some things like cutting a certain way and describing the benefits. End result is what I wanted as well which is the most important thing. It took me an hour by train to get there and I'll be coming back for my next cut regardless. read more

I take my haircuts very seriously, I mean who doesn't?! My regular barber went out of town for a while. I needed a cut. After spending some time on Yelp looking for a good barbershop, I found George's 2. When I found it, I notice it was pretty far from where I live (Uptown, Manhattan). Made up my mind decided to go for it. I was pretty nervous at first since I was unfamiliar with everyone. When it was my turn, I met VACH I showed him a picture of a hairstyle that I wanted and he did exactly what I wanted! VACH took his time to cut my hair, which alot of barbers don't tend to do. Time is precision! Fade came out perfect and blended with my hair, beard all groomed and edged up, and eye brows all sharp and clean. Seriously, I think I found my barber ! ASK FOR VACH ! read more

There is no other place that is as accommodating, reasonably priced, quick, does incredible work, and offers free drinks! I have NEVER been disappointed nor turned away. Last month I showed up for a cut 15 minuets before they closed but Emmanuel had no problem staying late and gave me the BEST hair cut I've ever had. I must say as a fellow stylist, I have high standards walking into any salon or barber shop, as well as with my cut. Also, as a female walking into a barber shop it can pose its own challenges. Vach at George's did not disappoint! He was so incredibly patient and very attentive to detail. He listened well to what I wanted and couldn't have followed my directions any better. Zero frustration even as I asked for some modifications. I couldn't appreciate his work more!! Clean shop, friendly faces, and zero discrimination felt as a woman! I left quite pleased and will definitely be back. If you're unhappy, speak up. I wanted to go to this place a few times before writing a review to make sure my review would be thorough. I plan on going for my fifth time today and plan to continue going back to this barbershop. Why? They are great. Every barber knows the devil's in the details and will ask you about every detail on how you want your cut performed. If you are unsure, their recommendations are amazing. Each time I've gone I haven't had to wait very long at all. Their prices are incredible and not to mention the topping on the cake is the included straight razor shave on the back of your neck. Never had that done before and I look forward to it each time. These guys and girls take pride in their cuts and I look forward to continuing coming back here for my cuts. read more

Moved to Park Slope pretty recently, so I've been looking for a good barber. Having thick Asian…read morehair, it's been difficult to find someone who can "sculpt" my type of hair to a desired hair style. I've been to a barber/salon a couple blocks over and I haven't been exactly thrilled with how they cut my hair, especially for the price they charge. However, Quality Cuts did a pretty decent job and for a great price too! So far, they did better than the last unnamed barber/salon that I went to. However, my concern is that the barber who did my hair has no personality and kept talking in Russian with the other stylist (and laughing through their conversations). I don't need to necessarily talk to the barber during my haircut, but having a relationship and trust with your barber is important. There was no "thank you" or "please come back", even after leaving a great tip and giving compliments! Not quite sure if I'll be back. While I've had a decent haircut for the price, it just wasn't a welcoming environment. But I guess if you just want a quick cut and be out the door, the barbers can do their job.

I was expecting a simple cut and go, especially since I have few options these days, but the amount of detailing and trimming was impressive. I wouldn't call him a barber - he's more like a man-servant who takes his time and makes sure you're a well-groomed man before you get out of the seat. The location is great for me and the cool tunes playing in the background was a nice touch - as was the complimentary shot of bourbon. George's is now my go-to from here on out.
