OK, I get it, you like your barber so you want to give them all 5 stars but there has be some objective criteria. This is a convenient local shop and the $20 price seems to be the local rate but there is nothing 5 star worthy about it. They ask for your instructions throughout the hair cut to get your agreement and they are a pretty friendly group. You can walk in at most times of the day and be in and out with a good haircut. They asked if I would like a razor or machine to trim my neck I notices a big box of bandages next to the lather machine and decided on the machine trim. Oh, by the way , and I know you guys are too busy cutting hair , you really need to have a cleaning person come in on a regular basis -- enough said. It is great for what it is. ... So I've been a loyal customer of David since he opened back in Feb. 2005. I always wait for David because he's the one who owns the place (David's Barber Shop...duh!) and I always wait for him even if there are 2 people in front of me. Loyalty goes a long way in my book, and when someone does me right I stick by him/her through thick and thin. Heck, I currently live in New Haven, CT and still go back to David to get my hair cut. Yep, he does me THAT GOOD!! David's chair is the second from the window and his brother, Rafael, has the chair closest to the window. While many people think they're Russian, they are in fact from Uzbekistan. Both of these guys are professional barbers and they have honed their craft over the years. While their demeanor may not be the friendliest, just strike up a conversation with these guys and you'll quickly find out that they are sweethearts. They have great senses of humor and a lot of conviction when it comes to their opinions, which mostly concern soccer and politics. This place holds a dear place in my heart because I moved into this glorious neighborhood in March '05. It was my first apartment out of college and I and was in desperate need to find a local barber that I could put my full faith in. As is the case with all new barbers, there's this inherent apprehension that the person cutting your hair is going to do a terrible job and you're going to leave unhappy. And worst off, you have to look like an ass until your hair grows back! So of course I had these fears when I first sat in his barber chair, but once the cut was complete I was very pleased with the end result. And back in 2005 it was $11 bucks a cut! In these rough economic times, I can totally understand that small businesses need to raise their prices, but after 6+ years the fee has only gone up to $14. Again, awesome job gents. I've seen this place evolve over the years and I'm happy to see them be successful on such a competitive street as Court St. They have even done so well that they opened up another shop on Smith St. between Wyckoff and Warren. Hit that up if David's is busy, which it frequently is. My only regret is that due to my Asian genes and lack of real facial hair, I can't get one of those old school shaves that I often find myself meticulously watching in envy as I'm on deck for David. The whole process seems so relaxing and goddamn awesome that I am considering getting facial hair implants just so I can have that steam towel, clean shaven experience. Goddamn you Mom and Dad for not giving me more facial hair!!! read more

I've been on a quest for a decent barber shop that won't immediately pull out the clippers and shave my head like every other dude that walks through the door (ahem, Astor Cuts, I'm talkin' to you). And in these tight times, I can't justify the $45 for Sei Tomoko when my hair grows as fast as it does. David's is a suitable alternative to both. I walked in and was seated in a chair immediately. I asked my barber to go as short as he could on the sides using scissors (no clippers!) and please keep the general look and feel of what I already had going on. He gladly complied. He asked, "How you hear about us?" "You ever heard of Yelp?" I answered. He had not. After I explained what Yelp is, he said, "I don't understand. We don't pay to be on this Yelp, so how are we there?" After a long explanation about how Yelp provides an outlet for user reviews, he finally got it. I have been going here since they opened back in February 2005. Before finding this place I didn't have a regular spot. I only go to barber shops, not salons, and it was hard finding one that was not so old school that the haircut looked like something out of The 50s or something sickeningly hipster and pretentious. David's shop is great. A great refuge when I want to get a cut and shave and listen to guys banter but also family-friendly enough to take my son, who was born the same month they opened, so he's had all of his cuts there. The first time I came here I had a horrible experience -- my hair was cut to within an inch of my scalp despite my telling the person who cut my hair to "not cut it too short", and unevenly on top of that. I complained, and the owner, David, fixed it as best he could. To be fair, I came back after three months to see if David could do better, and he did a great job. David deserves more stars than 3 and the haircut I got the first time deserved fewer. Those are not the only two people working here, and I have no experience with the others (nor do I intend to, because I am just going to make damned sure that I get my hair cut by David whenever I come here). Friendly service and attention to detail is what I get here, and that's important when you need a decent haircut. I don't need any letters carved into the back of my melon or anything off-center, I get pretty much the same haircut I've gotten since my Army service 15 years ago, just not as short. I did hear one customer next to me one time complain about every single hair that he thought was not lovingly and meticulously attended to, and honestly if I was the owner of this joint, I woulda thrown that asshat out on Court Street with his cut half-complete and then dumped a trash can full of rotting produce on him, beat him with said trashcan, then run him over with a unicycle. If you're that friggin' fussy about your hair, you need to go to a SALON and not a barber. These guys are wayyyy too nice to ever react that way, so that douche's barber calmly did what he was asked to do, and spent twice as long cutting that guy's hair as it shoulda taken. David's is no-frills, but they do have TVs that you can watch while you wait or get your cut, plenty of periodicals and newspapers, and if you need to buy something better than that Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo you've been using since your mama washed your hair, they have Crew shampoo and conditioner for sale. Best time to go- Saturday morning at 8:30 when they open. Ask the guys here for the lowdown on authentic Uzbek cuisine if you want to try something new for lunch or dinner. They'll steer you towards the right spots in Brooklyn or Queens. $14 for a regular haircut. read more

Coming to David's barbershop was a big mistake. I wanted to save a few dollars from the usual $40 that I pay. Thought I would get a decent cut here as the reviews were not really that bad. I was mistaken completely. When I try a new barbershop, i usually just ask for a trim up job to see how they work. My barber was really young and did not listen or pay attention to what I was saying. I asked for a 3 with a taper on the sides and a light trim off the top. Right off the bat he used a 2 on my sides without even telling me. I couldnt stop him once he started. A trim off the top because a full cut. I was furious and just wanted to get out of there. He cut my hair so short all around and made my head look round. No style to it whatsoever. I was forced to completely buzz my head when I got home and wasted $14. Both barbers were miserable and didnt speak to anyone. They have no sense of style at this barbershop and I recommend anyone who is looking for a good cut, to stay away from here. read more

Came to David's Barber Shop for 2 reason's: 1) I needed a new Barber shop for a first time creation of a Beard Line and Beard Shave. 2) Past Yelp Reviews never lie and so I took a chance due to my reliable Yelp Buddy. I've previously been getting my haircut in the Sheepshead Bay area by a very good Uzbek hairstylist. Unfortunately the place I was going to was a salon and not a male barber shop hence I was not able to get my Beard worked on. I ventured out to David's Barber Shop within the Cobble Hill area of Brooklyn with the help of Yelp who never disappoints. David who is also from Uzbek was the person who cut my hair and gave me a great looking shape and shave to my beard. The experience was so great that I might even change my Barber of 10+ years.
