I've now gotten three services at Côte d'Azur and I've enjoyed every one of them. I received two massages and one facial. These truly are special treats for me and not something that I do on a regular basis, so I have always booked services when they have a deal! There is a Yelp deal and if you subscribe to their newsletter, you also get updates on any other seasonal deals they have. Massages - both of my massage sessions were at least 60 minutes long and included the use of hot stone. I have a lot of tension in my neck shoulders and back so I am never as loose as a noodle at the end of any massage sessions anywhere. However, I did feel a lot more relaxed and has a lot of tension relieved in my sessions here! Keep in mind I like to have deep tissue and it can be hard to find places that do this well but both of my sessions here definitely met my expectations of how much pressure I wanted and helped with my major pain points. Facial - I haven't gotten a facial in a long time so of course the extractions portion made me cry as I usually do ha ha! But the person who did my facial was very attentive and open to my feedback when I couldn't take the pain of the extractions, and was more gentle but still very effective. The facial was very relaxing and I felt like my skin, which is very oily, looked refreshed and renewed. Facilities: -there is free parking if you drive all the way into their driveway. Or you can find street parking. -there is a reception area where you can have a seat before your treatment. They offer tea and water while you're waiting and also after your treatment is over. -The building itself is a converted home so there is a kitchen area, restrooms, and all of the service rooms were probably bedrooms or office spaces in the past. It's been a while since I had last visited Cote d'azur. Their former location was beautiful and inviting inside along with getting awesome massages from Darrin (the Owner) and Tyler (he doesn't work there anymore), but the parking was horrible. Thanks to Groupon, my much needed 75mins Majetic Escape and a visit to their new location was blissful and well worth it! Parking: Residential street parking as well as a small dedicated parking lot in the back of their house. Upon entrance, I was greeted by Carolyn (the Owner) and Toni, my masseuse, who was preparing my room. Carolyn was sweet and engaging. While we made small talk, she offered me water or tea (or both, if preferred). I opted for their tea, which was a Bengal Spiced Tea, which was delicious (cinnamon and cardamom was the strongest flavors I had detected). I later paired the tea again with the yummy bowls of chocolates they had placed on the waiting table post massage, yum! As for my massage... Toni was fantastic! I loved how in tuned she was with my body and energy. Throughout the massage, she checked in on me to make sure that I was okay, and to see if I needed more or less pressure. I had requested medium pressure everywhere and lighter pressure on my calves, and she listened, yes! Just like Darrin and Tyler, she also made my bones dance and cracked. My whole upper body was relaxed and loosen when she worked out the knots (typical desk jockey sitting position - bend arms / hunched shoulders). I appreciated that she used her knuckles instead of the elbows during the deep tissue portion (my Asian massage places tend to favor their elbows more). I was even more impressed when she focused on my arms and wrists, especially, in this technologically era of using our wrist, fingers (especially, thumbs) to being slaves to our cell phones. My fingers, thumbs, and wrists feels so much better! Best of all, I loved that Toni didn't bruised me. The next day, no soreness and no bruises anywhere, yay! Along with the Swedish/Deep Tissue massage, hot stones and heated rice packets were also included, which helped further my relaxation even more. Also, included was the Silk Hand Hydration, which made my dried hands (due to washing it a lot), especially, the knuckles feel even softer and looking younger, woohoo!!! Aromatherapy blends were also included: Lavender, Clary Sage and Vertimer and two other blends (forgot what they were). Throughout the whole session, the Clary Sage was the strongest smell for me, which was nice since my stress went down and I felt so chilled and calmed afterwards. Toni also hit some of the energy bowls to re-energize my spirit right before the cold stone accupressure face massage. The sounds amused me because I previously saw A Christmas Carol, and felt like I was awaiting the Ghost of Christmas Past to pop in, lol! And for the finale, which is always bittersweet for me is cold stone accupressure face massage. I loved the cold feel of the stones, but feeling sad that it was going to be over soon. Once it was over, Toni asked if I would like a dry towel or steamed towel to rub off any excess cream on my hands or body. I opted for a steamed towel just to clean my finger tips and the sole of feet in order to drive home safe and properly. After I got dressed, Toni had my Bengal Spiced Tea waiting for me and gave me tips and recommendations on what to do post massage. Overall, I enjoyed my time at Cote d'azur and looking forward to working again with Toni down the road. I was waiting for my wife who was seeing Raissa and furthermore your so called nice Karen used profanity to talk to me . You can't talk to people like that and expect them to obey , no way did I say anyone was goofy or that nature. I told You and your friend that there is no one here and I am 6 ft and there is not a single soul in this building . I always have a good experience when I come here. Not only is the location kind to the senses, but the staff treats you like family here. I have come here before with my husband when we were gifted a couples massage. I've also visited for a facial/massage package deal. Both experiences were really great. Carolyn and Toni are lovely people who treat you so well, they're very intuitive and work with you on what you need. I always appreciate their readings/kind suggestions I get while being massaged. Unlike other places that get you in and get you out quickly, they really take the time to take care of you and I think that's why so many people love coming here. You leave feeling cared about. The ambiance here is great. The old house that the business is in is beautiful. I LOVE the tea that I get to drink after, I immediately went out and bought a box to have. I purchased the Majestic Escape Massage and Bruce was my therapist. It was amazing. It was the best massage I have ever had. I showed him a spot that was troubling me, and he really worked that spot but I noticed that he spent extra time on some problem areas that I had not mentioned. That gave me a lot of confidence in his knowledge of the body. The pressure was strong at my request but he gave me the option at any time to ease up. This was was the first deep tissue massage I have had since the pandemic and I wanted the pressure. I felt like three years of toxins and trauma got pushed out of all the little pockets hiding them. The hot stones and hand and foot treatments were wonderful. I loved the cold stone facial as well. When done right, this is heavenly. The last time I was there, I took my Mom. We were disappointed because we were both gypped out of the hot stone integration or cold stone accupressure that was supposed to be part of the "Indigo" package. Also, their new location, though more spacious and luxrious than their previous, lacks the facilities of a "true day spa." They have no aquatherapy (no spa, steam room, shower, etc). If you'd asked me about this place a year ago, I would've given it four or five stars. As their business has grown, Darrin and Carolyn have been more "hands-off" than they used to be. Personally, I believe this to be the decline of their facility. The last three times I was there, neither one of them were on site. Though they have friendly staff, I found my services to be sub-par the last two times. With the exception of one or two people, new massage therapists seem to cycle through often, ranging in skill and expertise. Without Carolyn's watchful eye, I was not given a choice in my aromatherapy blend; no one gave me a chance to get my energy reading. She got out all the knots and knooks in my back and myy neck..She asked if the pressure was okay how I was feeling..like seriously I've had A LOTTTT of massages in my life and by far this was ONE HELL OF A MASSAGE...She really had the *MAGIC TOUCH*. Thomas Jefferson and I came here not to long ago for a "Couple Massage" I had to talk him into it :O) We had 2 young ladies that knew how to work out the kinks they had really relaxing spiritual tribal music and they did a "majestic escape" it was AWESOME we could not hear other guests which was a plus being that this location is above a bar. I would not go back to this place. The woman kept talking about which scents are good for pregnant women although I repeatedly told her I was NOT pregnant. And no, I'm not fat so I don't LOOK pregnant either. She just kept trying to press forward talking about pregnant people. Which was REALLY weird. The massage itself was 'meh'. She focused too much on upper arms (?) and it was really cold in the room. I also didn't like the animal sounds they had in the music. Also, they have signs everywhere about taking off your shoes but the employees had shoes on. So what is it, on or off? I have gone to this location twice. The first time was back in sept/oct and the second time was yesterday. This place always has deals on gold star. Plus they send me deals through locbox. I think I might've given them my email after my first visit to get direct deals from Cote D'Azur. My first massage was a deal I received on gold star. It was a 55 minute restorative w cold stones along my face at the end. My second massage I purchased from their emails. It was a 55 minute restorative w hot healing packs and foot scrub. My first masseuse was Toni. I was brought to a room and told to take off whatever I'm comfortable taking off. She gave a great massage and would always ask if the pressure was ok. My second masseuse was ... Something unique.. Lol. My second masseuse didn't exactly ask me at all about the pressure. But she did tell me that she felt I was tense and that I hold alot in. *shrugs shoulders* Like any place, you've gotta find YOUR match when it comes to the best massage. At the second massage, the lady left me a towel to wipe off. The first masseuse actually wiped me down after the massage w hot towels. It's a two story house they've made into a spa. So no amenities. They have parking on the street and parking behind the house. And to clarify. It does say take off shoes before entering the house. But it does specify take off noisy shoes ie heels. Lovely piece of the Blue Coast in the middle of Pasadena... Just like on the Blue Coast, the ambiance is very zen and makes one feel cut off from universe. You forget about everything in the world, which is exactly what you expect when you are here. But more importantly, this little piece of the Blue Coast is owned and run by a wonderful woman Carolyn (and her husband) who is the ultimate skillful caring and nourishing healer. I call her a healer because I feel like a new person after getting a massage from her. I have been coming to Carolyn for about 5 years now. Number 1 wonderful thing about her is that she feels on a whole different level, she is very sensitive to people's needs, which makes her incredibly compassionate and hence great at what she does. Her hands are the ultimate caring and nurturing hands, it is clear she is a natural at caring for people. Her massages are a combination of aromatherapy, deep tissue, and Swedish. She is amazing at detecting the problem areas of your body. Her approach is quite unconventional: a combination of spiritual and physical - very different from a regular masseuse. Carolyn was recommended to me by a friend who I highly trust. Carolyn isn't an overpriced massage therapist cuz she's a massage therapist, life coach, psychic, energy reader, past life reader, and healer all rolled in one! She hooked me up with an indigo massage, even though I got a groupon for a diff massage, which was exactly what I wanted! She kept thinking it was for an indigo, too! You can choose an essential oil massage blend yourself or she can do an energy reading and give a recommendation. Ask for her to read you!!!! Her thorough AF energy reading from with no ZERO info: ~She said I'm interesting psychically - three primary clairs, one of them is intense and goes above the head ~My third eye shares space with my crown chakra! (This explains a lot!) ~Really in flow and tapped in with the universe but said I have a hard time understanding humans and I tend to judge them ~Throat chakra partially blocked ~Heart chakra's turned down ~Lives in the higher planes a lot ~Lives in the lower physical body - my root chakra ~Split in two bodies and she couldn't see my middle part This was before the massage even started!!!! Here's what happened during my massage: ~Rooted my energy/feet to keep me tethered with the freedom to fly high ~Put a cellophane on my energy field, so I can come and go as I please but other energy fields couldn't enter as easily. ~Shared that the left leg symbolized father and right leg symbolized mother AND double checked that I wasn't flipped. I tend to not follow the norm and Carolyn was so astute about this, encouraging me to always check in with how info resonates with me. ~Sensed bloodline trauma and that I compartamentalized the trauma so I don't have to feel it but my ancestors are still in pain. My role is to heal the lineage ~I did terrible things to my mom, I was her mom in a past life, not a sibling or a co-worker and that's where tension btwn us comes from. ~She said I was in an interesting situation cuz I have a lot of energy that's usually reserved for a larger body, so that's why my body sometimes freaks out cuz my body isn't designed to contain the magnitude of power inside of me. She said oh things were worse in other lives and dipped out of that reading. I believe all of this cuz I've worked with other psychics, Akashic record readers, past lives readers, cleared ancestral traumas, oaths, and contracts, and have made some of them cry after what they saw. I know I've been burned at the stake and have had violent past experiences. So it all makes sense and explains why instead of feeling angry when guys become distant, I become grateful and feel safe. She knew I wasn't quite grounded yet. I didn't realize until I got outside and decided to rest on the porch. Carolyn's so holistic, thoughtful, tapped in, and loving. The massage was incredible, too! I left feeling like jello and I had energy detox from doing inner work. My leg and foot was in so much pain when I arrived and why I scheduled a massage from an energy healer considering the cause. my boyfriend took me here as a surprise birthday present. he stated that this is one of the few places that did a couples massage. according to him they explained the whole procedure to him since he's never done a massage before. so it helped him understand a great deal. [via telephone] this place is pretty hard to spot. it's a house. the bushes are covering the house so it's so hard to locate the signs. they have a small parking lot in the back and street parking. as you walk in, it's the small waiting section with maybe 4 chairs or so. they offer you water or tea. this is a house converted into a massaging business. apparently they were in a lot of well known magazines [i.e. allure, etc]. my bf masseuse was awesome according to him. she helped untied some knots at the right pressure. mines on the other hand could have been better. i say this because ive had many massages before and if i was to compare it. i can definitely say i've experienced better. my personal opinion it, wasn't worth it because the typical spas i've been to for that price included amenities such as the pool, jacuzzi, etc. the facility was very different than any of my other experiences at a spa. everything was more home like. even the massaging table and the decor. the decor appeared to be more of an indy/middle eastern-ish. when i checked into yelp at that time, they had a deal and i showed the staff and she informed me that it was incorrect and that they did not have any deals posted on yelp. however they were nice enough to give us a free cold stone massage for our faces. so that was extra brownie points from me. afterwards, my masseuse gave me tips on how to stretch so that i can relieve some of my knots. *note to those who wants to give this place a try! go to goldstar.com. they have deals on there and you'll be able to save yourself some money. they have signs everywhere [i.e. the bathroom] to give you tips on how much you should be tipping them. masseuse are dressed in casually attire. I really wish I could give this place more than a 2 star review because aside from a bad massage, I had a five star experience. Good ambiance and customer service can only get you so far if the service you're providing isn't up to par (especially considering the fact that this place is NOT cheap). I was gifted a massage for my bridal shower and finally decided to book an appointment when I was feeling a bit of back tension after some long nights at work. I was told that the massage I was gifted is a bit of deep tissue combined with Swedish. Perfect! Exactly what I was looking for. My masseuse was trained in Thailand and I told her at the start of my massage that Thai massage is something I stay away from because it has always done more harm than good to my body. Her training in Thailand definitely showed because I would say that my massage was more Thai mixed with deep tissue, rather than Swedish. I wanted to say something but I'm horrible at telling nice people that I'm not happy with the job they're doing. Example: I once asked for caramel colored highlights and the colorist dyed my hair PURPLE... I told her I loved it and gave her a good tip before going home and fixing my hair with box color. You'd think I'd learn to speak up but I'd hate to hurt someone's feelings. The massage itself wasn't overly painful, but it wasn't relaxing either. It didn't help that the masseuse talked the ENTIRE time... I like to zone out and enjoy the rubdown and talking makes it almost impossible for me to fully relax. She was so nice so I feel like a total jerk for nitpicking about her chattiness but talkative masseuses are a big no-no for me. The second I got up from my massage I could feel that something was off with my body. I was very sore for the remainder of that day and for 2 days after. I started feeling better after about a week. I had to ask my husband to rub me down with icy hot every night and I used alternating hot/cold packs just to bring my body back to where it was before my visit. If you are a person who enjoys Thai massage, I think you would have had a great experience. But I've had 4 Thai massages in my life and all 4 have left me with this same feeling of pain afterward. I wish that my masseuse would have adjusted her style when I told her about how I stay away from Thai massage. I can take super aggressive forms of other massage styles but Thai massage is my kryptonite. Aside from the massage itself, I really enjoyed every other aspect of my visit. The business is located inside of a big house and the decor is very, "Zen yogi from Malibu"... if that helps you visualize. There are a few parking spots in the back yard if you drive down the driveway. The street was pretty packed and there are a lot of sketchy people in that part of Pasadena so I recommend parking in the back yard, if possible. The massage oils are FANTASTIC and made my skin feel silky smooth. After the massage I was offered a towel to wipe off excess oil but it was hardly effective in getting the oil off. I wish they would offer a hot/moist towel instead, I think this would aid in the clean up process a little bit more. Post massage I was also offered infused water and chocolate; yes and yes! The water was delicious and they also have amazing tea... make sure you get a cup! I MIGHT give this place another try but if I do, I'll specifically ask for a different masseuse. I had a wonderful experience at Côte d'Azur. I was in Pasadena for a few days to take the bar exam. Understandably stressed out the Sunday before the test, I searched on yelp for a local massage spot. I was drawn to Côte d'Azur and specifically, the Índigo massage, because it incorporates energy healing. I called Sunday morning in hopes of getting a last-minute appointment, but figured it was a long shot given the high reviews of the spa. The lady who answered the phone said they didn't have any openings that day and asked if I could come in on Tuesday since they're closed on Mondays. I explained to her that I was only in town for a couple days. She was so kind and offered to call a couple of therapists to see if anyone was available. Later that afternoon, I received a call from owner, Carolyn. She explained that she hadn't been feeling well that day, but still offered to come in and give me a massage! I was so grateful that she took the effort to accommodate me on such short notice. The Indigo massage was amazing! Carolyn is a wonderful person and has such a beautiful spirit. I immediately felt at ease and comfortable. Before the massage, she scanned my body to identify any trouble spots. She also took time to listen to my concerns and provide an individualized session. I get massages regularly, and this was one of the best massages I've had. I love the incorporation of energy work. Carolyn made a wonderful tea for me and even gave me some homemade lotion and essential oil to take with me to help with specific issues I was having at the time. Situated in a lovely centuries old Pasadena farmhouse, this spot oozes charm and tranquility. I had the 6o minute restorative massage and it was heavenly. Meg was my masseuse. The room was large, the temperature was perfect, and I felt so good after my massage I booked another. Oh, tea and water await you after your treatment. Had the Indigo with David this morning. It was my first time here so I didn't know what to expect. I'm a massage enthusiast and usually choose Thai style because most "spa" massages have been disappointing and twice the cost of Thai. Today's visit was a birthday gift, so I didn't know what to expect. Well, David was nothing short of amazing. This was more of a life transformation than a massage. He gave special attention to my hands and feet, and also to spots on my skull. I actually cried a couple of times. I am telling all my friends and can't wait to go back. Thank you, David! It took me too long to write this review for Cote D'Azur. Definitely must try the Indigo Massage if you're in Pasadena. Kim T's review with the list of what you will get is spot on. I was blissfully happy when the session ended and was able to continue the rest of my relax day in Old Town. Do not expect this place to be like Burke Williams. No vanity areas, shower, steam room, saunas, shaving cream or cut up fruits served to you. This is a cozy place that provides quality massages. Customer service is meh. Well, due to the recession, it's only until now that I had enough disposable cash to go splurge on my poor face...a face that's traveled several continents, and endured stressful city living, only to be lovingly cleaned, soothed, and pampered by the lovely Kathleen Vanduesen. You might laugh, but I've kept Kathleen's number in my cell phone since returning from London in 2008 -- having looked into a LA-based Dr. Hauschka certified specialist http://bit.ly/qy9DJc -- and found Kathleen to be nearby. Boy, have I been counting the minutes (and dollars) until I could afford a full Classic Treatment. And baby, it was worth it, worth the whole wait. My boyfriend commented how my face looked completely relaxed, and even my voice was different (softer). Frankly, after her treatment, I felt years of crud and worry lifted away -- my skin renewed in a organic, biodynamic (non-chemical) way. The lymphatic massage with brushes will send you into floaty heaven!!! I think my TMJ issues loosened up big time too, which my dentist will love. Just be aware that this is really more of a massage/skin treatment center than a "proper" spa. There are no locker rooms, saunas, and darkly-lit lounges -- just a converted two-story house, decked out in hippie shabby chic, where the rooms have been converted to treatment rooms. Has that slightly-disorganized but genuinely friendly feel of an indie business. So being that it's an old wooden house, the boards creak as people walk by, the rooms are not light-tight, and sound from outside travels in. As for the massage itsef, I'm no connoisseur but it was fine, especially for the price. I did find the upstairs massage room to be a bit cold and much too bright as well, so I couldn't fully relax during my treatment. I have to say that this aspect of Cote d'Azur was disappointing. The location doesn't really provide a deeply relaxing, transportive experience. Of course, your mileage may vary, but part of why I go to a Western-style spa rather than any of the local Asian massage places is to get a sense of being secluded and "away" and this doesn't quite do it for me. At the end of the day, it's a bit like you're visiting your really nice (if slightly loopy) hippie relative and she just happens to have all the ingredients for a great home-made facial growing out back in her organic garden or whatever, lol. That said, while it's not my favorite local day spa (dtox is hands down a much nicer facility without sacrificing that personal touch), I think this is very much worth your time and money if you're looking for a solid alternative to the blandly "luxurious" local chain spas. read more

He is an amazing person (not to mention a dazzling and charismatic presence) who, as it seems everyone at this spa does, approaches acupuncture and wellness by considering the person, body, mind, spirit, in one integrated whole. After the extensive intake and breathing/music/massage/acupuncture session, I left feeling I could ditch my shrink, my masseur, my life coach and my personal trainer. This man is everything in one!
