White-Rogers Thermostat Replacement for a Pancake Unit (Gas Heat, Electric AC Set-up) We have had our White-Rodgers thermostat for over 20 years, and it's always worked great. Two weeks ago, it started blinking and as soon as we noticed this issue, we turned the heater off. It started blinking between the schedule and temperature units. The heating and AC still worked fine, but we replaced the batteries and filter just in case. This was my first thermostat issue in years, and so there was a lot of new terminology to understand. So, I called two HVAC companies- neither called back. A friend recommended Cost Less Heating and Cooling, so I called and Sal responded right away. With freezing night that same night and next few days, he quickly scheduled a technician, Abraham, who arrived on time. Abraham tested the system and confirmed the thermostat needed replacement. He patiently explained the setting and troubleshooted the issue when he new Sigler unit, set to "Gas", wouldn't start the heater. So, we called Sal about the issue and while we were discussing over the phone Abraham thought of checking the old thermostat settings. After checking the old White-Rodger's thermostat setting, he realized it was set to "Electric." Once he switched the new Sigler thermostat to the correct setting, everything worked. Abraham stayed in touch with Sal, confirming that both heater and AC responded correctly to temperature changes. Abraham was professional, polite and completed thermostat set-up for out pancake unit. Within 10 minutes, he fixed the problems. It was the capacitor. Turned out he's like in his 30s and been doing this for 6 years.
