Shoutout to Salvador Leyla and his associates at A1 Heating and Cooling. In 2021 A-1 (led by Juan Lara at the time) installed for me two Trane 3 Ton Air Conditioner Condenser units and two 2 Trane Effects HEPA filters, plus a new furnace to replace one of my furnaces - at my home in Los Altos. I also purchased at that time a five year maintenance plan such that A! would come visit my house every six months for tuneups and maintenance - which they have dutifull done ever six months for the past 5 years/ There tuneups have been extensive and comprehensive. I have recently extended that maintenance plan to 2031. The A1 team is *extremely* professional and also very knowledgeable. During their most recent maintenance visit (April 2026), the A1 team led by Sal Leyla diagnosed a small shortfall in the refrigerant levels in the two Trane units and because of me having pre-paid A1 for semi annual maintenance visits, they not only were able to quickly add refrigerant but the cost to me was very affordable. I should also note that based on the professionalism displayed by the A1 Team back in 2021, five of my neighbors also hired A1 to install air conditioning units. And they are all very happy customers. A1 is an excellent company to work with in all respects and shoutout to Juan and Sal for their professionalism and great work. Dear Maneger I am writing to formally complain about the furnace installation performed by A1 Cooling and Heating, a third-party contractor for Home Depot, at my home in Redwood City, California.The furnace was installed at December 5 ,2025. From the very start it has not worked properly. Since the installation, the system has repeatedly failed to turn on, especially during colder days. This issue has continued for one week without a permanent solution. During the first week after installation, someone from my household had to be home every single day to accommodate repeated visits and attempted repairs. This caused significant disruption to our daily life . Despite these repeated visits, the furnace has never functioned reliably. A 9 thousand job from A-1 Cooling and Heating, INC. Recently, we experienced a spell of warmer weather, which temporarily masked the issue. However, on December 26, 2025, temperatures dropped again, and once more the heater failed to turn on, confirming that the problem was never fixed. This situation is unacceptable. We paid for a new furnace expecting safe, reliable heating during winter. Instead, we have endured weeks of inconvenience, wasted time, and an unreliable system that still does not work. I am requesting: 1. An immediate and permanent repair, or 2. A full replacement of the furnace, or 3. A refund, if the issue cannot be resolved promptly . Additionally, I expect this matter to be escalated within both A1 Cooling and Heating and Home Depot, as this experience falls far below acceptable service standards.Please contact me as soon as possible to confirm how this issue will be resolved. read more

Our HVAC was 20 years old, so in Nov 2023 we bit the bullet and replaced it with a Daikin Fit system from A-1. This was a major $$$$ investment -- two heat pumps, two air handlers, two smart thermostats -- and the rebates (which require passing inspection) were a big part of why we did it. The install went smoothly, but they failed the electrical inspection in Jan 2024. They promised to fix it. Months went by. Nothing. When they finally did schedule another inspection (Aug 2024), they told me it passed. But when I checked with the city, it had actually failed again because A-1 installed the wrong breakers. In other words, they misled me -- and without passing inspection, I couldn't get my rebates. From there it was the same story: delay after delay, reassurance after reassurance, with me doing all the chasing. In May 2025 -- 18 months later -- I told their manager, Desiree, I'd be posting a review if things didn't get fixed. That finally got a tech out, but he brought the wrong part. The right part wasn't installed until June 2025, 19 months after the job began. And still today (Sept 2025), the system has not passed inspection. Their latest excuse is that they "can't reach the city," which doesn't make sense since Saratoga uses a simple online form and has always been responsive. Meanwhile, I'm still sitting here without my rebates. I don't enjoy writing negative reviews, but honesty matters. A-1 didn't just drag their feet -- they told me inspections had passed when they hadn't, and that lie has directly cost me thousands in rebates. If you hire them, be prepared for poor follow-through and the risk of losing out. I'll update if they ever pass inspection (2 stars) or make me whole on rebates (3 stars). Porter their estimator came out as soon as I called. He told me that my old system was very low on freon and showed corrosion on the coils due to my dogs peeing on it. I needed a full replacement. He gave me a quote thru email. I got three other estimates and giving us full install price with new unit. The next day I called him to let him know that I wanted his company to do the job. He told me that if I wanted he could do the job the next day at 8Am starting. They showed up on time and with two man they installed a 4 ton system. Finished in one day and have the inspection for permite next week. Very Clean and neat on the whole installation. Highly recommended read more

The technicians Edverardo, Francisco, Rodriqo did an amazing job installing my new AC system in May 2025. Sadly, my compressor stopped working in August. Brad sent fans to my home and shortly thereafter, put in a brand new compressor. AC works fine. To me the test of a 5 star company is servicing any post installation problems, honoring warranties, and sending out skilled technicians as soon as possible when requesting service. A-1 did that for me. At my first AC maintenance service, Francisco successfully serviced my AC and cleaned the coils to prevent odor and mildew build up. I was so impressed with their immediate service and follow through, that I hired them to send out a technician (Danny) to replace a failing exhaust fan motor. Service Champions recommended the repair initially, but never followed up after several calls to them. A-1 heating and cooling is a great company. Our heater was over 40 years old and broke. They came to the house very quickly to inspect it. They recommended we have the whole unit replaced. We scheduled an appointment for a week later. Since we were without heat for a while, they provided two very nice and powerful space heaters for us! It was a very nice service. Less than an hour after I posted my last review, we got a phone call from a lead workman informing us that a replacement thermostat was approved. We are on day 1 of having the new thermostat, it is working great, and definitely seems to be the fix we needed. I want to be happy, but I'm kinda just holding my breath for the next thing to go wrong because it has been one thing after another with this experience. But, trust me I am hoping with all my might that we're done and can just move on with our lives. My father asked me if I would remove or consolidate any of my reviews. Which really goes to show what kind of family we are. We don't drag companies, we were backed into a corner and desperate to keep my child safe from first the heat and then the cold. But, without any explanation for some of the poor and dishonest treatment we experienced, I don't know that I feel comfortable with that. Personally, I rely on Yelp reviews to help me choose where to give my business, so I feel like I would be a bad community member if I took it all down because we finally got results. There's some trauma here for sure, especially as a mother. I would hate for another family to go through what we did for nearly a full 7 months. I feel it's worth mentioning that I am an educator and have been for 20 years. And in addition to my father working in building maintenance for 40 years, I currently work in career tech education at a local community college, so I know the value of trades like HVAC. As someone who provides a service everyday, and prioritizes treating people with decency and respect--even if they don't reciprocate or we don't agree--I am flabbergasted at how this company has treated us. Not only am I stuck with them since to ensure that the warranty of the system isn't nullified, I have to continue to get my system maintained by them on a twice a year basis. Understand why that is the case since no company would want to honor warranty if another company messes up. But then, just as many other reviewers have mentioned, their sales pitch is always so good but when it comes to delivery of service, it's absolutely terrible and I'm sharing screenshots (was shared but Yelp removed them as it didn't meet photo regulations) for you to see what transpired (and don't worry, I'm sending those to BBB for formal complaint as well). One moment the tech tells me he can change out the filters but when on site he didn't and when I followed up, he's now saying I need to pay more as that filter isn't included. I had A-1 Heating and Cooling install a heat pump at my home. The salesperson, Hyman, told me I could easily switch between the new heat pump and my existing gas heater as long as I got an Ecobee thermostat. So I bought one based on his advice. But on the day of installation, the technician told me that switching between heat sources wasn't part of the scope. I called Hyman right after, and he reassured me it would be taken care of during the pressure test, so I paid in full for the installation. Well... the day of the pressure test and inspection came, and no one from A-1 even showed up. The inspector was upset, and I had to open the electrical panel and take care of things myself, stuff their crew was clearly supposed to handle. Once the inspection passed, I called Hyman again. He told me to call the office to schedule the dual-heat setup. I did, got an appointment, and waited, but no one showed up. I called the office again, and the receptionist said they'd check in with the technician. I waited all day. No one came. No follow-up. Nothing. At this point I'm just tired since I've had to chase them every step of the way. If you're thinking of hiring this company, be careful. Once they get your money, they won't care about you. read more

We visited A-1 at the local Home Show and spoke to Hyman. We told him our air conditioning unit is too slow in cooling our home. He recommended we install a whole house fan last fall. We were able to use it this summer and are very happy with the system. It cools down our house at night much faster than our a/c unit ever could to save on energy and money. I am still at this time waiting for an email or call from A-1 regarding fixing the line set. I even offered to do a payment plan just so I can get my machine fixed in this 90 degree weather. I even spoke to their manager CHRISTINE HOWARD, but there doesnt seem to be any follow up from them. Apparently the "LINE SET" is broken and apparently "not part of the existing warranty." I am also trying to have LENNOX FIX this issue since my LENNOX AC is only 3 years old. At this time, it has been 3 weeks, and no resolution, still no service Tech from A-1 to come out and fix the supposed broken "LINE SET" that I have to pay $2500 for. I don't know what kind of business this is, apparently a family run business, but they don't seem to care about their customers or even following up with my issues or concerns. I have nothing but high praise for this company. They have been easy to work with from the beginning. I found my salesperson Robert to be extremely knowledgeable and responsive to all my questions. We purchased our system in 2023 and never had any issues with it. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago. We heard a loud noise and thought it was coming from the heater/AVAC system. We placed an urgent call on a Sunday night. As it was the weekend, we didn't expect to hear back from anyone until the next day. To our surprise, Brad called us back that night and we were able to do Facetime with him to try and determine what was wrong. As it turned out, it was not the Heater or AVAC. He was very helpful with helping us figure out what the cause was and we so appreciated him calling us back on his weekend to do that. I highly recommend A1! They have an awesome team! We were looking for a high-efficiency, whole-house, ducted heat pump to replace our 25yo gas furnace, and A1 Heating & Cooling's team was very knowledgeable and professional from the initial quote scheduling to the final installation and testing. During the initial quote visit, A1 certainly spent the most time assessing, measuring, and asking good questions to offer a solution that met our needs and budget. We had four different HVAC installers quote the project, and while A1 was not the cheapest, they were 'far' below the highest bid, and I have no doubt A1 provided the best overall value by far. Our stated intention was to leverage some of the local rebates and federal tax credit, which is totally my responsibility, but two of the other companies quoted equipment that would not have even qualified. A1 quoted and installed the latest Daikin Fit heat pump and air-handler along with an optional in-line Daikin premium air filter. While the Daikin brand is not that well known here in the US yet, I am very familiar and comfortable with Daikin from my business travel over the years in Europe and Asia. I found A1 through Lowe's and had a brand new HVAC installed by them in early 2022. By April 2023, the AC/cooling has stopped working. A technician came over, refilled the refrigerant and the cooling worked again. He noted down that if the cooling stops working then that'd indicate a leak. Four months later the cooling was no longer working. A different technician came, later than the appointment time window, and said he forgot to bring a leak detector! He also mentioned he'd need to access the attic where the furnace is located next time. So he came back on the next morning (today as I'm writing). But he didn't have a proper ladder with him to access the attic! The ladder was too short and he fell off the ladder and broke my wardrobe shelf. He wanted to go to Lowe's to get a taller ladder ‍ then he realized he needed to order a new coil component. So the work still can't get done. In short: a brand new system was installed one year ago and the cooling system is still broken, after they sent their technician THREE times to fix. Broke stuff in my room too. read more

My 3rd time using A-1's services. My carbon dioxide alarm was going off in the middle of the night. I was concerned for my family's life so I called A-1 to come check out my furnace heater and clean the ducts to make sure it's not what was causing the carbon monoxide leak. They text and email you a confirmation or even the sales person will text that they will come by to check on my concerns. Literally no-show . No call I'm running late . Robert was the salesman / estimator who reached out to me the same day I had requested information. Robert asked me about my needs and how A-1 could support me. Robert was attentive and listened to all of my questions and concerns. Robert communicated via phone and text and was available even over the weekend. My AC Unit went out in the middle of a Bay Area heat wave. A very notable AC Service company in the Tri-Valley came out multiple times and provided a quote and told me it was a great deal. Not knowing the market for a new AC installation and not wanting to make an emotional decision, I did some research and got multiple quotes for comparison. A-1 Heating and Cooling was by far lower in cost and was able to get me on their schedule immediately. A-1 Heating and Cooling pointed out many items the other companies missed and saved me money on the installation and pointed out the "Energy Star" device would be eligible for possible tax credits which my tax preparer confirmed.
