Called them for a routine dryer vent and duct cleaning and after having issues with the vents & ducts on the first visit they did a deeper inspection on the second visit and found a ton of issues with the vents and ducts (multiple holes, broken supports in the crawl space, rust on them, dirt and debris in them, etc.). They came back for a 6 hour third visit to patch holes, replace parts of the vent & ducts, add new insulation, add new supports, and clean out the dryer vent fully (which actually has its outlet accessible only from our neighbor's yard!). Yes, it was way more work and hassle than we had first expected. And yes, it was way more expensive than we first expected. But it was all work that we needed to get done and now our dryer actually works and our A/C is more efficient! During the whole process Cal Duct was communicative and worked with us on scheduling and was clear on pricing as new work got added. I hired Cal-Duct to clean my chimneys and was deeply disappointed with their service. The technician arrived an hour and a half late for the initial appointment, leaving a cleaning rod stuck in the chimney, duct tape residue on the chimney doors, and accidentally removing essential fire-resistant insulation from the chimney box. The company's response was slow, and they failed to resolve the issues in a timely manner. Since the cleaning rod was stuck, I couldn't use my chimney for two weeks plus the flue was stuck open with their rod so cold air was coming down the chimney the entire time. At the follow-up appointment, the technician arrived three hours late. He didn't know what he was working on and asked me if he could go to Home Depot to buy material for the job, completely unprepared. Once he did arrive, he removed the rod stuck in the chimney and the duct tape residue but brought unmarked insulation, which I didn't trust was fire-resistant. When I asked for its packaging to verify its safety, he couldn't provide it and couldn't confirm its source, he said he just found it in his van but said he didn't know where it came from. His attempt to demonstrate the insulation's safety by burning it with a lighter was unprofessional and only added to my concerns. The technician was so upset by my refusal to use questionable material that he peeled out of my driveway, which was the final straw in an already terrible experience. Later the manager, David, texted me complaining that they hadn't made money from me because they had to drive too much and had to come back twice. I asked for a refund which he refused and threatened me with some sort of claim. They came out last year, and I realize now that they scammed me. They came out to clean the dryer vent, but upcharged me, saying I needed a new dryer vent duct. They charged me $500 for the vent duct on top of the $299 cleaning fee. I am finding out now that they used the wrong kind of duct and they did a bad job installing it. They used a duct that is meant for piping heated air from a furnace, not a duct that is meant for dryer venting, which has particulate and water vapor in it. I found this out because water condensation was building up in the duct they installed and another honest and reputable company came out to inspect it and replace the duct with a correct one. In addition to doing a poor job and severely overcharging me, and they left the old duct under my house and didn't mention it to me and didn't answer my questions. They talked around my questions and I had the sense that they didn't really know what they were talking about, but that they were trying to look like they did. They charged my $800 and I had to hire another company out to completely re-do their work. read more

I thought all the cleaning services works the same way, but apparently I was wrong, I had cal duct to do my whole house vent cleaning today. The biggest issue I have, is how they do cleaning. They asked to open the furnance and windows, they take off vent cover and use a long soft stick to lose the dirt, and then vacuum with a portable vacuum. I think this will make the house full of dust. According to the tech, if someone is alergic to dust, he needs to leave the house. Many years ago I used another company and I remember their vacuum is inside the car, and there's big long pipes that goes from the car to my vents. Their vacuum is very powerful so it only fits in the car. Other issues I had with today's cleaning: * The price tag only covers 10 vents (I dont think this is mentioned on the website) * two guys finished in half an hour, quite a surprise. * Not removing the shoe is another surprise, even on our upstairs carpets. * Forget to clean one vent, since there's no sign of vent being removed, the drywall patch is still over the vent. (To be fair they offered to come back but we already left house) The original scheduled tech was sick, they found out half an hour before so rushed someone else. I had contacted him for dry cleaner lint cleaning. He said that its fixed price of $149 and they won't charge anything extra. After around 30 minutes he told me that few screws in the dryer also need to be opened and the lint should be cleaned. I requested him to do it and he declined. So basically this guys wanted to be paid $149 for 30 minutes i.e. ~ $300/hour and still decline to fully clean the lint.
