He came out when promised, was on time and very kind. After looking at my fireplace, he told me that it should be in fine working order, but it wasn't working because it didn't have the burner. The gas line had been capped and all that was in there were the logs. When he said that, it was an 'aha moment'...I felt quite dumb asking him out for nothing. He was honest with me and said that he doesn't typically 'install', when there's nothing wrong with a fireplace. He said that it is very simple to do, and I could do it myself. He spent the next 15 minutes walking me through the process and informing me about my fireplace and what size burner to get and where I could get it. He shared important safety information with me as well. I could tell that he probably wasn't going to charge me for his visit, so I offered $20 and a solid review of my experience on yelp. Charlie was clearly the kind of businessman that wouldn't take advantage of ignorant people. This is the most important quality in any business. He certainly could have milked me for money, bought what I needed and charged me to install it. Instead he taught me how to do it myself and gave me safety tips and tips on how to save money as well. I will certainly refer to him anyone I can, and call on him whenever my fireplace truly needs repair.

Michael Calvey thoroughly explained all of the options for our house's specific HVAC needs and was very patient with me as I asked a variety of questions. In fact, he made numerous trips to our house to answer the constant flow of questions my wife and I had. Bottom line, we built a solid working relationship with Michael and this gave us the comfort we needed to move forward with our HVAC investment. Calvey Heating and Air's estimate for a new heat pump and furnace at our house was very competitive. I was amazed at how much the pricing varied from vendor to vendor. Michael and the Calvey team made the entire process seamless from start to finish. Michael recommended an electrician who did a great job with our electric panel upgrade and the permit team did a fantastic job working with the city for all of the required paperwork. When it came time for the installation, the lead installer, Servando, and his team took pride in their work for the two day install. Similar to Michael, they were patient with me and answered all my questions during the install. Following the install, the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Team promptly arrived and conducted the necessary testing. Lastly, the permit team met with the city building inspector to successfully get the city sign off on all of the work. Throughout the entire process, Calvey Heating and Air did a great job choreographing and managing all aspects of the installation. I was constantly kept informed and Michael and his team visited our house daily during the installation to ensure all was moving forward properly. Lastly, a final walk-through was conducted by Johnny from Calvey ensuring that the install was 100% perfect. Once my wife and I have had time to work with and get familiar with our new system, Michael indicated he will have his team come by our house and balance out our vents if needed and answer any additional questions we may have. Overall, my wife and I cannot be happier with our decision to have Calvey Heating and Air install our new system. Their service was great from start to finish and there were no hiccups. Like many customers I wanted to put a TV over a fireplace without it being too high off the ground as this makes for an unpleasant viewing experience. One way to do this is to use the "cool wall" type of installation, which lets you locate a TV right above the fireplace, but this requires building a chase into the room - and the particular room we have is too small for this to be a good idea. I also did not want to use one of the mantle mount options for our TV because that would also bring the TV into the room when lowering it for use which would thereby also reduce the size of the room in front of the TV. So we had a bit of a conundrum. But penguin showed us some options, which allowed us to get our TV low enough without using a mantel mount or a chase at all. Specifically, they showed us an insert that you could put directly on a concrete floor and a noncombustible mantle which you could locate just a few inches over the fireplace opening without risking fire safety. (As a point of comparison, locating a typical combustible mantle above a fireplace requires strictly specified minimum distance, which in effect leads to a much much higher minimum TV installation height..) We also went with a custom surround, which makes the gas insert that we went with look a lot bigger, and also a good proportion for the space that we have... And the design of the insert itself makes it look a whole lot deeper and wider than it actually is by using reflective glass. I'm really pleased with how this turned out. For the wall tile, I'd always had a dream of doing board form concrete and penguin did a fantastic job installing it. This is a fiberglass reinforced concrete veneer product I got from Wall Theory in the color "natural gray." It's worth mentioning that I visited another store that did not think of the options we went with, which left me scratching my head as I stared at a pile of catalogs that they shared instead. Go with Penguin.

I hired Whole Duct to clean out my dryer vent and I'm very happy and relieved with the result. Scheduling with Andy was quick, easy, and straightforward. I appreciated the clear communication and professionalism the technicians Aydin and Parvin took every step of the way: arriving on time, letting me know what they were doing and giving me a heads up before turning on the loud vacuum, wearing shoe covers on my carpet, testing the dryer afterwards to make sure it turned on and worked properly, and cleaning up afterwards. I also appreciated the video and photos they took and shared with me during the process; seeing all that dust coming out of the vent was satisfying and helped me feel confident that the job was getting done properly. I used my dryer today and it is running so much more efficiently: before the duct cleaning, towels would still be pretty damp at the end of a cycle, and now they come out dry and warm. Aydin and Parvin did a great job cleaning our dryer vent. No prep was needed! They moved the dryer, cleaned the vent, and put everything back better than it was. When they started cleaning the vent, I went outside to watch how much lint was going to come out of the duct. I could see the duct flap opening and closing during the cleaning and then the vent cleaning mechanism came shooting out. When they were trying to pull it back inside, the flap got stuck in the open position. I let them know and they got out their ladder and fixed it with no complaints. This was not easy as the duct was 20+ feet up the side of the house. I really appreciated they put on shoe booties at all times when entering the house and cleaned up around the dryer when they were done. They also sent me a video of the cleaning so I could see how dirty the duct was. I would highly recommend Whole Duct for your vent cleaning. read more

Received a quick response from Andy after I put in a Yelp request. He also called me with a question based upon what I described as an issue with my dryer. The price was fair and within the same range of all the other offers I eventually received. Aydin and Parvin were able to come out in a few hours and do a thorough vent cleaning (inside-out and outside-in front the roof) given it had probably been at least 5 years since I last had the vent cleared. Aydin described what they were doing and took a short video of what had accumulated in the vent. It took about an hour to get the service completed given the amount of lint and dust and having to go on the roof. I am very impressed with Whole Duct. I scheduled an appointment easily with Andy on Friday to clean my dryer vent. They came the very next day on Saturday to do the work. Aydin arrived exactly on time as scheduled with Andy. He started right in to complete the work. He cleaned the vent from the inside and outside and even cleaned out my lint trap all the way down in the dryer. He took pictures for me to see the work done and explained everything to me clearly. They quickly found a problem with the fireplace installation, and suggested they look at the duct from our clothes dryer, since they couldn't immediately help with the fireplace.
