I wouldn't say it's exactly gone to the dogs but customer service has really declined over the years. The food counter is always understaffed, the bottled water machine is always broken, and staff has gotten more rude with time and turnover. I knew it was a wrap on this location when I discovered my bag of Pirate's Booty had a mouse hole in it after I paid near closing. I got as far as the outer vestibule area and went to turn around but the door guy yelled at me and refused to let me in to speak with customer service about a refund or an exchange. I went there again and had to update. The staff was fantastic this time. I'd ask my dad a question and someone nearby would answer lol. I wanted a coupon book but they were out. One of the store employees found me inside and gave me one she had found. Very sweet! I also had tires replaced here. The price was almost 150 dollars cheaper than the dealership and mtb. They were quick ( done within 40 min) and the benefits to having your tires from here is phenomenonal. Check it Out if you're looking to replace tires soon. Review of optical offerings by Novi Eye Associates LLC located inside of COSTCO. I purchased a new pair of lens and frames in November of 2016. Less than a year later (posting this on Oct 1st 2017), the coating on the frames was chipping off. When I complained to the Optical department, they correctly called that the chipping was at the points where the frame would touch my skin (bridge of nose, temples, below nose pad) without inspecting the glasses and indicated they "normally" tell customers to coat the area with clear nail polish. Apparently, my tech on that day neglected let me know this tidbit of information. Based on their statements, it seems reasonable to conclude that they knowingly sell inferior quality frames. Given their lack of surprise, I would also venture the issue is systemic since they were not interest in identifying a particular frame model. The impression telegraphed to me was "this is normal and to be expected silly you for not slathering on the eye polish". ... and it gets worse. The wear actually started about 4 to 8 weeks ago. I was content to simply deal with it and move on with life. However, this review is prompted because just this morning, the temple arm simply popped off while I was sitting and reading. It appears that whatever bonding methodology used to join the arm's pin to the "hole" on hinge is inadequate. I suppose the joint was grossly weakened from the sweat of my brow just like the paint on the frames. I certainly get the whole discount-throw-away society thing but I am not ready to accept the practice of knowingly selling items that will not last a single year. That seems excessive trade off for discount services. I've been wearing glasses for 50 years and have never experienced glasses go from "new" to 'beaters' status in such a short time frame. Under. A. Year. Worse, they offer 0 warranty coverage for the product outside of the 30 day we-will-work-with-you promise. Really, that says it all - even toasters have a year warranty on them. Incredible selection of alcohol, food, and everyday items (razors, clothing, toothbrushes, etc). The price was a lot less than expected. I would definitely recommend this place for buying in bulk and can see myself going here every month to stock up on food. To give an example Costco was selling a pound and a half of salmon for $12 dollars which would be at least 16 dollars even at Trader Joes. Additionally they sold two bricks of goat cheese for around 6 dollars which would be probably double that anywhere else. read more

Came here on a Saturday morning shortly after they opened and it was already busy! We came here looking for a drill, but they do not sell that. Some of their items are seasonal as they definitely have sold power drill in the past. Multigrain loaf bread is fresh in the mornings, when we picked it up it was still warm! Bread is definitely a great deal here. Other great buys included Kirkland brand honey roasted turkey breast, Kirkland wild alaskan salmon, and Kirkland adult multi vitamin gummies. If you know anything about chocolates, skip the Costco Kirkland brand chocolates, they are not good at all. I tried on some of their clothing but if you're petite, then even the small sizes are too big. I really like their eyeglasses department employees who are super helpful and nice, and if you lose any screws to your glasses, they patiently helped me find a replacement screw free of charge. We realized weekend samples are not served until afternoon so there is really no reason to go to Costco that early anymore. There are opening/have opened other stores in the same shopping center including a Dick's and Marshalls for your other needs. read more

I used to love this location. Especially when they allowed healthcare workers in during this pandemic. It clearly states on the website that all healthcare workers and first responders has priority. I am a healthcare worker. I provide care for our most vunerable. I had previously went to this location. No problem was let in twice without any problems. I work Monday thru Friday and sometimes on weekends. My clients can not leave there homes so it was a bonus that I could do their shopping for them. Well yesterday I was turned away because I was told by the manager at this location that I couldn't come in because it was for first responders only. Like wtf. It's bad enough I can't shop for my own home because I'm busy caring for seniors but to be turned away after being allowed to come in twice before is ridiculous. So I'm confused. Is it all healthcare workers or does the manager gets to pick and choose. So frustrating at at time like this. read more

If you know what a Costco is, then you know that they are as wonderful as they are a monumental pain in the a$$. Usually overly crowded and what you are looking for has probably been moved, which means you are forced into walking by a bunch of other stuff that you didn't know you needed. THIS Costco is a little different. All the above applies, of course, except for the crowded bit, which I don't get at all. How can this place not be mobbed? Don't know and don't care, and it is not for me to question the merriment of a deserted Costco. Guess what other thing makes this one stand out? Booze. Yup. Not just wine and not just beer, but booze. Merry Christmas!!! GIANT sized bottles of all your favorites. Christa-clause is going to have a very happy booze-hound family this year. Here is to hoping that they don't actually read my yelp reviews, but if so, sorry for the spoiler. Also, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Oh.My.Word. This place can be an absolute nightmare, so make sure to come during off peak times if you want to avoid ridiculous lines (both for ENTERING the parking lot and at the check-out). We have had either great experiences with it being near-empty, and horrific ones where it appears the entire city decided to descend upon Costco for it's price-chopping goodness. What makes this location different from the rest? (at least, from the next closest one in VA) It sells liquor. Whereas the ones in VA do a fine job with the beer and wine department, this Costco goes above and beyond with it's supply of all sorts of whiskeys, vodkas, gin, etc. I've seen many a shopper exit with nothing more than alcohol in his/her boxes. I also like that they carry a pretty good selection of Carter's pajamas and play clothes for 0-5 years. Prices are about what you'd find for the same clothes at TJ Maxx or Marshalls, but obviously its better stocked here. I think they could do with some better organization during peak hours at the check out - there was one man trying to wave people to different lines but most people seemed to ignore him. My family would starve if it wasn't for Costco! Every weekend we go to Costco, and for $100 bucks we have breakfast, lunch, and a few dinners for the whole week. We buy pretty much everything that we need from Costco first before checking on Amazon, then Target or Harris Teeter. The standouts this year would have to be the Adidas ankle socks, and the Puma black dress socks. I am also addicted to the turkey provolone sandwich from the pizza stand. It is super greasy but so good! My favorite thing about Costco of course is their generous return policy. We buys pretty much whatever we want because the return policy is so good AND I have put it to the test by returning a bunch of crap ranging from a kite that didin't fly, a bag of onions that decided to rot a few days after I bought it, coffee mugs that began to leak, etc. If you own a car, and like buying in bulk to save money then you MUST get a Costco membership. read more

My co-worker rants and raves about THIS Costco all the time so I finally checked it out. I was reluctant to purchase a Costco membership because I am already a BJ's member but I figured why not?! I visited the Alexandria, VA location to purchase my membership (it's closer to where I live), at this location there were a few products that BJ's does not carry that stuck out, but nothing blew me away. Costco definitely has more of warehouse feel than BJ's, I haven't decided if this is good or bad yet. I noticed that compared to BJ's, Costco's products are definitely packed more in "super bulk". For example, the products, mainly food, are not broken down into smaller individual servings. Last week, I finally visited the DC location and now I am SOLD!This location has wine, LIQUOR and beer! I got almost two liters of vodka for like $13! Are you kidding me?! That's the price of one drink in DC! For now on I am buying all my liquor here, exclusively! I might need help drinking it though because the bottles are huge! I think most of them are way bigger than bottles at the traditional liquor store, the Kirkland brand is for sure. The DC location appeared to have a way better overall selection than the Alexandria location. I even saw some decent furniture items that I might go back and check out. Oh, and if you live in DC you can't beat the gas prices here! It's worth it to get the membership just for that alone. The only bad thing about this store is that it is in DC proper and the sales tax is 10% (I live in MD), but I think it still balances out with the savings. read more

I cannot get enough of shopping in bulk. I find myself going over board easily in this store. Last week I spent close to $300 here, and only planning to spend maybe $200. I personally love to cook, but have my nights where I need to prepare something filling but fast for my kids. This is where my love for costco comes into play. 4 pizzas for 11 bucks, Tysons chicken strips which are huge, 8 lbs of french fries for 5 bucks, 19 bucks for a bag of frozen wingettes, the kirkland dinner franks (amazing off the grill), and barrel of oat meal...lol. Along with all the meats I usually buy, it really goes a long way. Plus I can get a big ol bottle of ciroq or whatever I'm feeling like sipping. Last time I went they had a special on fresh seafood that looked amazing. They had everything from lobsters, to jumbo shrimp and red snapper on ice. I didn't get any but it looked good. read more

Really like this Costco. It's laid out more intelligently than the other ones I've been to and traffic flow just makes sense here. Prices on a number of items I've noticed are lower than the Costcos in Pentagon City and Maryland. Staff is friendly, and they have Harmless Harvest Coconut Water, a good wine selection, and a lot of boughie shit that I'm not ashamed at all that I'm into. We wanted to get our alcohol from this costco. My fiancé's mother has a Costco card and could not come with us that's week, but we just wanted to see what the selection and prices were so we could tell her what we wanted for her to buy the next week. I called Costco the day before and explained the situation asking if it was okay for us to just walk in to write down the selection we want and he said that would be fine. The next day we drove the 40 minutes to get there and had the guy at the entrance direct us to the membership services. At membership services, they said we were incorrect. We said we were told yesterday we were able to. They were extremely rude and we asked for the manager. The manager, Latif, said the same thing and we asked to at least have him escort us in to just look. He said no and whoever told us that on the phone was wrong and that anyone that works at Costco can answer the phone and give any response. Any time we tried to get a word in he would interrupt us and tell us to leave. I've never had such a bad experience in any Costco, which we used to go frequently when we lived closer, and I've never had so many employees be so rude. read more

Never take their Merchant Service credit card processing services. I cancelled my account a year ago, the representative, opened another account without my consent. I should have been more diligent in monitoring my bank statements. They continued debiting my cancelled account for over a year. I telephoned them again. They removed one account (the one that I opened and had cancelled), but continue to debit my account for a second account that I did not open or authorized. Living in VA, I'm not a regular at this location. When you need to stock up on liquor, this is a location is worth the trek. Like other commentators, I've learned that weekdays are the time to shop. Weekends are very crowded. I had a very good post purchase experience, with the management team, regarding an error in the ringing up of the items in my cart. While nobody likes to find an error, the follow up was great. The front end manager gave me her name and told me the store manager would call me back, which she did in a matter of hours. Continuing my nation-wide tour of Costcos, the gf and I made our way on a Saturday morning up to the DC Costco. This Costco looks like every other stand-alone Costco store, both inside and out. However, bright, shiny, new, and plenty of free parking are words that also come immediately to mind when describing this edition in the Costco empire. It had all of the usual suspects with regard to its inventory. However, unlike its brethren in NoVA and I believe MD, the DC Costco sells liquor and has the best wine selection of any Costco in the region. We found locally distilled Catoctin Creek spirits for $30 a bottle, a great price! We also picked up a bottle of Kirkland 18 year old Speyside single malt scotch for $23. Hey, who cares if it's Costco brand scotch? I prefer my scotch to be of the age of consent and if I can find 18 yr old single malt for under $25, I'm certainly going to give it a try. Oh, and it was pretty good...smooth...and a heckuva value for the price. DC Costco, you're the DMV's best in Costco breed! read more

Costco is Costco. And I LOVE it!! I get exhilarated walking down those large aisles of super sized products. I enjoy watching people buy food for a family of 12 or a small restaurant, I'm never quite sure... And the DC location is great. Can you say jumbo sized vats of liquor sold on Sundays? Need I say more?! I went on a Sunday at 4pm and was still able to get in and out without much trouble. All of the checkout lines were packed, but the cashiers had a good system and moved people through efficiently. The longest part was probably getting past that darn receipt checker at the exit! Somehow, customers who have been standing in that line for at least 5 minutes, watching others get their receipts/items checked, look surprised and begin to frantically look for their own receipt when they get to the front of the line... One of my friends told me that the Costco in DC sells hard liquor, not just wine and beer, so we decided we needed to see this with our own eyes since Costco stores in Virginia do not sell liquor because of ABC laws. This location is on the Northeast corner of DC, so you're basically a stone's throw away from Maryland. When we arrived, the parking lot was a zoo. Now most Costco parking lots are zoos, but this was a level above what I normally deal with. They had a ton of cones out trying to help direct traffic and make people only one direction up certain aisles and that kind of helped, but it was still a mess. As we were walking through the parking lot to the door we noticed a security just hanging out in the parking lot. This seemed a bit unusual for Costco, but we were in Northeast DC right on the border of Maryland, so I suppose this was perhaps normal. When we got to the door we noticed that there were no carts near the entrance and the associate at the door was directing everyone to go to the exit side to get a cart. This seemed a bit backwards and really jammed up the entrance, which was annoying. We finally got in and started exploring the aisles and everything seemed pretty normal for a Costco and what we see at the ones in Virginia. Then we got to the liquor aisles and our minds were blown. They had everything and in such large quantities. The best part was that the prices were great and you could get an XL bottle of something for the same price you could get a normal bottle at ABC. If I were planning a party or a wedding, this is the place I'd go for the booze. The store was crowded, what Costco isn't, so it took patience and Jesus to help me make it through without going crazy. I wouldn't make the trip to this location if I wasn't buying booze, but if that's what you need, this is your place. read more
