Arriving into the parking lot today my husband noticed he forgot his wallet at home so I called the store and they said it was fine that he could get a temporary card for today's store visit. Since this had never happened before we went to where merchandise was being returned and I asked the young girl where to go and she pointed "over there". I looked and the amount of people on a Sunday that are there is crazy! I looked at her like she said two heads because I had no idea where to go. Then she said "stand on the line where all those people are" so my husband, my two year old, and myself (39 weeks pregnant) stood in line where everyone was getting their receipts checked because that's where it looked like she was pointing to. As we approached the older women with black short hair (up to her neck) who was also wearing glasses and has bangs, who saw we were clearly next to go to her completely ignored us. I started to talk to her and she was still ignoring us until I started waving at her. I asked her if this is where we went to get a temporary Costco card. She said "no you have to go member services" and I told her the young lady told us to stand here I'm not sure where member services is.. she said "it's right THERE. That's the member services line. I'm not a line. Do I look like a line to you?" And she rolled her eyes at us. I was so shocked at how she spoke to us as if we were stupid. We LOVE Costco we have never had a bad experience with an employee there until today. I told her thank you and went to go stand at the correct line. As we were waiting on line, she was talking to the gentlemen next to her (also checking the receipts) about how she has to keep doing things that "are not her job" and complaining about working there. Being a customer you do not want to hear that and it's something that should be kept private not for the whole world to hear about how much you hate your job. The Costco at this location is amazing but that one employee really put a bad taste in my mouth. I don't think somebody with that attitude who doesn't want to help out a customer should be working there. When we left and had to have our receipt checked I tried so hard to avoid going to her but of course we got her. She didn't even check our cart she just put a line on the receipt and let us leave. What if we had stolen something? Are these the type of people you want working for your company? read more

Too much unhealthy selection , not enough whole plant based food, everytime I used to purchase meat from here it was bad smelled like sulfur and just rancid . I do not ever buy meat from here again. A larger sugar and candy selection than Actual food . read more

My wife goes shopping at this location. We decided to get some BLUE CRAB SPREAD for the New Year celebration. My wife and I had some on a plate with cracker on new year's eve and placed the rest in the refrigerator, that night my stomach was burning like there was a fire inside me, my wife also had the same experience, but didn't suspect the crab spread (we had some cheddar cheese and wine but never had this type of burning). On New Year's day my wife decided to finish the rest that we stored in the fridge, that afternoon she started to vomit and had extremely watery vowel movement, went on through the entire day and night till 9 AM next morning, she has been sleeping and living on tea, toast, scrambled eggs,etc. Yes I called her doctor, Broohaven hospity and NYS poison control. Today she's doing much better but she's not totally out of it. , I should have known, they had the tubs inside cardboard boxes in the open front refrigerated unit, cold doesn't quite gets to it, since cardboard insulates. FOOD POISON from Holbrook's COSTCO blue crab spread. Stay away from the crab dip. Management should regularly inspect and workers should know better on proper food storage. read more

The days of getting high quality, consistent lunch from Costco is over...at least at this location. I ordered a slice of pizza. Used to be good, but now, so bad, I actually threw most of it out. Not sure if they are using a different vendor? When's the last time you couldn't even finish one slice of pizza? OK, so I decided next time to try a healthy Chicken Caesar Salad, because the huge picture display looks really enticing. Was definitely massive in size for the price (took it to go), however, once I started to eat, it was so tasteless (even with the supplied Caesar dressing). The chicken included with it seemed wrong. Un-marinated, tasteless, chewy, just downright bad. They even chucked in some cherry tomatoes, perhaps with the hope to disguise the abomination of a salad. Unsuccessful. Couldn't finish...threw out most of it. The only thing that I could say is decent is the frozen yogurt (and very cheap to split with the family if desired). Stick to the desserts and you should be fine. read more

I would give them 0 stars if I could. I went for an eye exam and the optometrist indicated that my contact script changed and she did not have my script in my usual contact brand. She indicated that my brand would be discontinued and recommended a new brand (which hasn't been great). I went for my follow up appointment at 10:15am. There was a patient in the exam room at my appointment time which was fine (people run behind). While in the waiting room there was someone that had a 10:45am appointment working on his paperwork. When the optometrist was done she took the new patient before me (that was fine no worries). Two other people arrived after me that had 11:00am and 11:30am appointments. When the optometrist came out she took them before me. I asked the receptionist why and I was told they had actual appointments not follow-ups. Sorry, I made an appointment and paid $95 last week and being an hour behind is one thing taking patients out of order is another. I will also indicate that the optometrist indicated that I had an astigmatism. I went to an actual ophthalmologist and they indicated I don't have an astigmatism and provided me a new prescription fo ray contacts and glasses read more

I shop at Costco about 2 or 3 times a month. One complaint I have is the people that stop for the food samples, so friggin annoying especially when the place is packed and some idiot just stops short right in front of your cart to shove a quarter size sample in their mouth. Complaint number two, Costco seriously needs to put in at least 2 express lines (5items or less). Sometimes I go in just for paper towels and K-cups and have to wait behind someone that has enough food in their cart to feed an army. All in all, I think Costco has great prices and a great return policy. Really nice selection of fresh and frozen foods. read more

Costco is one of my guilty pleasures and I dig this one.......and not only because Holbrook Liquors is next store, but that is a compelling factor. Other Costcos like those in Lawrence or on Old Country Road are a perpetual zoo in terms of crowds. If you are pressed for time(who isn't?), the experience there is ghastly. By contrast, at least on weekdays, my many experiences here have been great. They have ample people working checkout. They add more as the lines get longer. The cashiers seem to know what they are doing. I get in and out fast. One of the great pleasures of Costco, like Trader Joe's, is serendipity. You never know what you are going to find.Today, I found a Chinese-made woolly-warm comforter for $19.99. I've previously gotten amazing orthopedically- correct pillows here. I saw some great whole bean coffees today like Peet's Major Dickinson Blend($16.99 for two pounds). I love the Kirkland Albacore Tuna Fish which still comes in a seven ounce can.Kirkland's Columbian Supremo is also a good everyday coffee. It, like all Costcos, features a large variety of produce and fresh meats.They also have Schmidt's Blue Ribbon White Bread, which I have not seen at other Costcos. It is THE BOMB for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It tastes like what Wonder Bread tasted like when I was a kid, not the crappy way it tastes now after being bought by that Mexican company.....and no........I'm not voting for the Fascist Narcissist. The raviolis here are also excellent. If you like smoothies, the frozen fruit in bulk is terrific and terrifically priced. FINAL TAKE: The Holbrook Costco is a keeper and I have not even mentioned the cheap hot dogs. read more

I love Costco! It's a good company that tries to treat their employees right; I appreciate that as a consumer. I notice that a lot of the employees have been working there for 5+ years, which says a lot about the management. I haven't had the annoying long line hassle that can be experienced at some Costco locations. However, I have never been here on a Saturday or Sunday, so take my line experience with a grain of salt. Typical Costco offerings here with lots of samples as usual. Good customer service. I also purchased tires at another Costco and had them rotated and balanced here. I was having an issue with a tire leak and the guy explained the two likely possibilities and service options prior to touching my vehicle, which I greatly appreciated. One huge gripe that I have is that they don't have a cart return in the parking lot so it's an absolute mess with stray carts. I typically park farther away to minimize risk of any car damage. They accept visa credit cards, checks (from members only), and cash. They may accept other methods of tender but I'm not sure. read more

This Costco is laid out pretty poorly compared to all the other Costco's I have been to. The produce section is right in the middle of the large aisle, meaning that it is far to crowded with people passing through instead of shopping for produce. It also means that carts bump into the delicate fruit, and kids get their grubby hands all over things. Every other store has the produce section where this store has the bakery and chips, and it much better off. read more

Absolutely the WORST experience EVER in ANY Costco dealing with the wireless center. People don't know their jobs. Waited an hour just to buy a phone. Now I'm returning the phone unopened. Really like Costco Unfortunately the nearest Costco is in Holbrook and I live in Mastic, so I used to do grocery/foods in the local Pathmark & Best-Yet, until I tried Costco once, and really liked them. True, variety is not great, there are no small units, and when you don't know something there is nobody to ask. And sometimes even quality is not great - but this is rare, usually quality is good, and usually prices are great (small, I mean). Somehow, it feels, they almost always offer the best value/price rates. And most important - they seem to respect customers, to understand their desires and to try hard to fulfill them. Just two examples: 1) their emphasis on healthy\organic (yet cheap) food. 2) Bought there several months ago a $20 fan. Equipped with past Walmart experience kept the package & receipt for a failure situation... Well, surprise... Its now mid summer and the $20 fan works better than the $60 Walmart fans... I can go on and on but I think you got the point... And I also like the small tasting stations they have everywhere... No wonder everyone looks happy there... And no wonder I do now 70% of my shopping there, leaving Pathmark & Best Yet only for emergencies... read more

Great products, poor customer service and and not customer friendly at all. I've going to this location for years as is the closest to me. However any time you have a question abt an item/stick availability or products there's never anyone around to answer questions, so I requested a manager as I was looking to purchase a hardtop gazebo $2600, which is on sale for 2099.00. I requested a manager since they was no one around and was directed to speak with Kimberly. When I approached her she wouldn't let me finish my sentence, was very dismissive and quite rude. Needless to say, I walked out and placed the order of 2 gazebos online since it seemed Kimberly couldn't be bother. I realize they won't got of business because I walked out of the store,however,customer service goes a long way and I wasn't inquiring abt a pack of gum but rather a big sticker item. The store got great items just don't expect any kind of customer service... The staff are unapproachable,rude and couldn't be bothered. read more

I Love this Costco! I firstr joined it 9 years ago when I moved out to Holbrook and I bought everything there. I got married 4 years ago and my wife lived with me in Holbrook for a year and then we moved into Queens due to work. We tried the Costco in Rego Park and other ones closer but nothing compares to the Holbrook Costco. For one or two items we buy in Rego Park otherwise once a month we make a day of it shopping first at Costco in Holbrook, with their King size cooler then we visit friends. Their staff is so friendly and helpful. Although, it is a large store it gives you a small store feeling. Numerous employees know us on a 1st name basis and the butcher department is great. If you don't see the cut you want they are more then happy to custom cut it for you. John D. read more

Horrible experience. We were members many years ago and a negative customer service experience pushed us to BJ's instead. We recently moved to an area where Costco is much closer than BJ's so we thought we'd try it again. We went to our local Costco and asked if we might be able to get a guest pass or at least walk through prior to joining to see if it would work for us. We were told NO. I again told them I thought I wanted to join but just wanted to look around, was that unreasonable? I guess so, we were once again rudely told that it would not be possible. Needless to say, looks like we'll be continuing to spend our money at BJ's. read more

I can not say enough about Costco!! I have so many things in my home from big ticket items to small that are from Costco. The employees are always friendly and helpful. I think all the prior bad reviews are just ranting, I travel Long Island and have been to almost every store. Yes, the cashiers might be chatting it up with their packers,. but there is never a wait to check out as there is in every other store.! To me getting in and out is more important than getting warm and fuzzy. It is a warehouse store, not Tiffany's, and def not the place for gourmet fast food so take it for what it is. Fair prices, great quality products and an unbeatable return policy. I'll shop Holbrook any day for that. read more

My entire family spends thousands of dollars a year at Costco and we usualy never have a problem. I stopped in earlier in the week at the Holbrook costco for a quick food shopping. At the end of my trip my children told me they where hungry so I took them to the food court in this Costco. I then attempted to pay with the same exact card that I just bought all my groceries with but there machine was giving a error message saying card not read, after a few attempts the girl with an attitude says well can't you use another card I then told her no because you guys only accept cash, debit or American Express and this is the only card I have with me at the moment. She then rudely rolled her eyes and continued to try to take my transaction. I then asked the girl if she can please ring me up on a different machine. This seemed to be a very difficult task for her to figure out how to do and she had to then grab two other workers to help her figure out how to do this process which seems to me to be a fairly easy process. All three of the workers had very horrible attitudes and treated me like I was stupid meanwhile its not that hard to just ring me up somewhere else. Unfortunately when I was finally moved over to the next machine it still gave the same issue please note my card was in perfect condition not old or anything it was there machines. I was so annoyed with the way that the workers were treating me that I then went over to the manager on duty and discussed my frustration with him which at that point he even seemed like he did not care and just told me he would speak to the workers. It seems like today people forget about customer service. When you see a woman with two young children who were just trying to get something to eat, do what you can to help them purchase the one fountain soda and two slices of pizza. It is also sad that when I got to my car my 8 year old had to tell me Mommy they were looking at you like you were stupid in there meanwhile it was really them. Horrible experience! Spend your hard earned money at BJ's instead. My sister and I have gone to Costcos in Holbrook for many years as my sister's guest and I have spent hundreds of dollars there with my amex. Today should have not been any different. I was told that I had to be a member for them to accept amex (remember I've been paying as a guest with amex for years). Now its a problem. My sister paid, and off we went to customer service. They were rude and not helpful at all. I suggested to get a one day membership pass so I can use my amex. They tell no. I suggested that I go on my sister's acct they again said no. I then realized I was less than white and my business wasn't wanted there. There was one one person of color who attempted to help us but was out ranked by Cathy general manager. Why Costcos do you promote nasty unhelpful people to be on the front lines if your business to deal with your customers when they don't know how to speak or treat them? Again I say my fellow non white consumers. Don't go to Costco in Holbrook, take your money where you will be treated as a valued customer. read more

Costco opitical at the Beacon Drive in Holbrook NY is a train wreck of incompetent staff, and unfortunately it is the entire office from receptionist to the doctors. I had an eye exame in Oct 2012 where I explained that my private eye physician had worked with me many years to get contacts that I could wear, extremene H2O, I needed to stay with that brand, but was told costco did not sell that brand and I should try those that they sold, which I did and irritated my eye, I returned to be fitted again to find that I was fitted by the first costco physicain incorrectly and again I should try the brands sold by costco althought I implored that they would irritate my eyes, and they did irritate my eyes, so I came back a third time to ask for a script for the extreme and later to find the script was written for what costco sells. My bad for not verifying the script. This is ridculous, these are normal contacts, nothing exotic, and Costco seemed determined not only to force me into using only what costco sells, but disregarding my request. How am I to ever trust this group again, and it is a significant degradation of what I thought was the quality and attention to cust service I usually experience in costco. In following up again on trying to get the script straightened out it took multiple calls, pleasding with the doctor to listen to my issue while she ranted on and on how it wasn't their fault or problem, boldly talking over me and refusing to listen in some level of customer understanding, and finally relenting to addressing my issue.
