I love Costco but I hate the tire shop. I made an appointment at 10 o'clock and unfortunately I got in the wrong line to be checked in. I didn't know you were supposed to go inside the store itself to check in I was outside waiting in the line where everyone gets air in the tires. The man named Eric in the front desk was extremely rude for absolutely no reason. I can honestly say that I never raise my voice or gave him an attitude and he was just so unprofessional and rude. Unfortunately I was 15 minutes late due to waiting in the wrong line and another 15 minutes I had to wait because they take so long taking people in at the front desk. Because of this they said I was late and that I was deemed a walk in. They kept messing around with the time that it was going to take. They were doing it on purpose because I complain to the manager about Eric being rude and in total it took seven hours! I will never in my life go to Costco for tires again. I would rather pay a little bit extra instead of getting the discount just to avoid the tire shop. Also, they left my rims super dirty and the tires Just don't look up to par. read more

I enjoy Costco for so many reasons, but the political correctness puts it at the top of the list. Closed for holidays, pay their employees well and everything else falls into place. I shopped at the Clybourn location for years, but I now live a few blocks from the south loop location and I love it. The store is easy to park at and get around in, compared to Lincoln Park. However, the secret seems to be getting out as there are more and more coming to this location to shop. We live so close that we literally have run in for one or two items. It isn't as large as the Lincoln Park store, but it keeps up with everything and Costco is wonderful when it comes to trends, getting what the customer wants and bringing in items that are more unusual. For instance, this location caters a lot to the large Mexican and Chinese community who shop there and that benefits all of us. I love the road shows, samples, quality products and the fact that Costco is carrying more organic products on an ongoing basis. I just purchased a box (20+) of organic oranges that are insanely delicious. Juicy and plump. Magazines are 30% off, prescriptions are highly competitive to other locations as are pet medications. The return policy is as great as you'd want it to be as they stand behind their products. read more

We bought tires from the Costco and the wait was ridiculous the guy could not get the lug off. He suggested that we take it to a mechanic or other shop so they can remove it. I said don't you guys specialize in this and don't have the proper tools? this was a red flag that I should have gone somewhere else. Well they wete finally installed and our tire signal flashed the very next day and the tire was low, apparently they were installed incorrectly. The guy gave my wife a hard time and said that next time the warranty wouldn't cover this /mind you this was their mistake. Fast forward a month or so and we got a nail in the tire, my wife calls to make an appointment the guy says just come in. She gets ready to drop off the Van calls someone to pick her up but they say they can't help. The manager says we are booked but come in tommorow and we'll get you in and again they say they can't help her. We are canceling our membership as this has been a horrible experience with management and customer service who show no empathy and also don't value their customers time. read more

If you live nearby and also have a car, make yourself a favour and get a costco membership. Gas prices are much cheaper here (most likely within 5-7 miles radius) and lines are not too bad. Frenched lamb chops and leg of lamb is my choice of red meat (btw, sous vide rocks!). Cannot beat their price!!! read more

Love the Costco but HATE the Tire Center. Do not go here. It is nearly impossible to get an answer from anyone, no one seems to know what was done to your tires or why and "I don't know" is a standard response to any and all questions. Too frustrating. Almost sorry I bought my tires here. The five-year warranty is wasted on me. Will definitely go to the dealership moving forward. Less frustration if you can believe that. 11/3 UPDATE: Under no circumstances should you go to this tire center. I was having issues with my steering wheel and car shaking particularly at high speeds after the Ashland Costo Tire Center rotated my tires. I took my car to another Costco location and they informed me that the tires were NOT rotated correctly nor were they properly balanced. Pretty shocking experience. read more

Sometimes one really bad experience can make you rethink how you will engage with the store. I've always preferred Costco (in general) given their customer service, labor beliefs, and general price deals. Today's visit was TERRIBLE. 1. When my sister and I entered, the "greeter" greeted us with a "N ho" (perhaps because we're Asian). My sister informed him that we weren't Chinese. He then replied, "Oh, well then how should I greet you?" To which we replied, "How about hello?" He looked confused. We walked away. 2. We wanted to purchase a phone as a Christmas present. We've been to the cellphone service kiosk twice before where the employee, while not directly employed by Costco is still overseen by Costco, was nowhere to be seen. My sister asked an employee about who we should speak with at the kiosk. He walked over to an area in between products and nudged at a person, apparently the kiosk employee, who was sitting on one of the display chairs, laying on top of the boxes, sleeping. When he nudged her, she picked up her hair, stared at me and then put her head back down. What the?!? 3. After we did some shopping, we returned to the food court to pick up the pizza we had ordered 30 minutes ago (we had been told that it would take about 15 minutes). Our order had not been made yet. So we asked and waited. No one could tell us where our pizza was. Order numbers for whole pizzas that were 5, 6, 7 numbers after us picked up their pizzas. We asked again and again. Employees continued to say, "We're working on it." 45 minutes after the initial order time, a combo pizza came through and we asked if that was ours, and the reply was finally, yes. :-( Maybe the perfect storm? I love this location because it caters to a vast diverse population, the south loop, Chinatown, Pilsen, Taylor Street, which is reflected in the available products. The staff is always very nice and happy, unlike at Sam's club. They will even pack your purchases in boxes if you ask them. If you do bulk buying like I do then you should care about the working culture of the people serving you. Costco treats their employees very nice and in-turn they treat customers very nice. The parking lot and store is always clean and orderly. Their buyers are fantastic. I buy top grade meats, seafood, fruits, vegetables (organic and non-organic) here. Nobody can beat their liquor pricing or selection. I also do appreciate the cost saving past down through to me under the Kirkland in house branding. Although Cost does not produce any products, they do eliminate the branding costs associated with very good popular name brands products and pass the savings on to me in their pricing. Also, I love reaping the rebates with my executive membership and with the Citibank Costco Visa. The after sales customer service is also excellent, if needed. read more

This location is legit for a city Costco. It has a lot of parking, a large selection of everything you'd expect Costco to have and their staff is great....except customer service (which is weird since you'd expect membership folks and customer service to be where you'd put your winners). The guys who are at the exit are so nice and draw pics on the receipts for the kiddos and the cashiers are fast. I appreciate that since fast cashiers in Chicago are few and far between. Store is clean and we rely on the store for the Costco essentials where you make back the membership dues 100x over (allergy meds, squeeze packs for kids, veggie straws, meat, hard boiled eggs, paper products, wipes) :) read more

Hey it is another Costco store in the city of Chicago! The location is pretty good and easy enough to get to. I've been here a hand full of times now and the crowds are not nearly as bad as the cost co on Diversey. The lines on a weekend about about a 10 minute wait which isn't too bad. The selection is the same as any other Costco, but I did see some Shiseido makeup that I haven't seen at other Costco locations. I normally go to the Costco on Cicero but this will be my new home now. I would like to correct what another reviewer said about the acceptable form of payments. I am finally fed up with Costco. Today I sat around all day waiting for a 70' credenza to be delivered form 4:45 to 6:45. At 6:30 a rep called and lied to me and said the driver couldn't make my stop because of covid, and 3 other deliveries had to be rescheduled. That made no sense. If you knew this earlier why wait until the end of the day to call me. Then the rep hung up on me because I was upset. The rep told me I would not be the next day delivery, and instead of Thursday, which is today, I would have to wait until Monday! I should be the first stop the next day. I called back to find out a time and was told by another rep the driver was delayed because he took too long at other stops. Covid was not the cause for delay. The previous rep lied through her teeth. The new rep I spoke to, Andrew, was very helpful. He agreed that I should have been next for delivery not dead last, and is trying to get my delivery sooner rather than later. My question is why am I paying for a membership to receive lousy service? My membership expires in September and I am not renewing. I went through a lot of preparation for someone to be home with me to help me with this large piece of furniture. I work from home and I just moved and I needed the credenza to set up my home office. I haven't been happy with Costco's produce in a very long time. Costco's fresh produce is awful and the prices, even in bulk aren't much of a savings anymore. Andrew promised to reach out to me tomorrow with a firm delivery date. We stood before the wall of Gatorade bottles, the jars of peanut butter bigger than our heads, the islands of sweatpants and boxer briefs. I looked down and in our cart is a tub of 200 dishwasher soap pods, a handle of Maker's Mark, an Eiffel Tower filled with moscato, "Heat" on Blu-ray for 5 bucks, a 36 pack of ankle socks. We're not even halfway through the store and we're suddenly STARVING, like ravenous dogs, swallowing extra saliva, The Girlfriend mentioning we can get a hotdog and soda for $1.50. Now we're chucking 2 packs of Home Run Inn pizza into the cart, 8 pack boxes of Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches, 2 pound bags of frozen shrimp meat (high protein, low fat). I don't know how it happened, but the image on a 2 pack box of Wheaties started to blur before me, so did the Count Chocula family pack, the Quaker oatmeal assorted flavor pack, and I staggered out of the aisle and there were more people than I remembered in the store, and they were all wearing clothes with logos on them, and girls had iPhones tucked into the waistbands of their yoga pants, and "Uptown Funk" was being pumped through the speakers pointing down from the rafters, and all the televisions were playing Avengers: Age of Ultron, and I was tugging on my coat collar and I was holding onto the metal shelving to stay upright when I heard a gasp. The Girlfriend was lying on the ground. She was reclined on the side of one leg like Queen Cleopatra, or a very modest cat, and she was holding her forehead, dazed, and seeing her in this state shook me out of my own spell. That's when the manager and free sample lady came to our rescue. Both were extremely helpful and genuine in caring for us, making sure we both had water and bringing a chair for The Girlfriend so she could sit. They radioed the store medic but we told them no. I was holding the bottled water to my forehead and already felt better. The Girlfriend had her head between her knees but she said she was fine. The manager and associate stayed with us to make sure we were okay, and politely shooed the other customers off who started gathering around us, already forming a circle to watch, watch whatever it was they thought was going on. Once The Girlfriend felt better, we sat in the food court and the manager offered us two free slices of pizza. I tried asking what happened but The Girlfriend just kept going on about the things she saw, the 2lb bag of kimchi, the pre-made Korean pork jerky, the lifetime warranty on all car tires. "How can they guarantee that?" she said, holding a limp slice between us. "How?" I didn't know, so we sat there in silence, waiting for one of us to answer. read more

If I could live in Costco then I would!! This place has everything you need and things you didn't know you need. Costco has it all..gas, oil changes, tires, vacation packages, pizza, Gouda, French wine, furniture, clothes...aw hell the list can go on! Yes, there is a small yearly membership fee one pays, but well worth it. Their customer service is top notch and haven't came across any issues yet. I recommend hitting up their cafe...well pizza/hot dog corner...before shopping. For under $5 bucks you can feed 3 people....when was the last time you saw that in the city?!? It helps to have food in your stomach cause otherwise you will be coming home with a box of mini tacos the size of Africa. Weekends are packed here, but they have samples like nobody business on the end of each aisle. We always get our steaks, chicken, and salmon from here since the prices are a steal. Other great items here to get are chips, booze, and household items. Like everyone has said the gas is the cheapest you will find in the area. I could rave about Costco for another 6 paragrahps, but you gotta just check it out your self. Once you enter Costco shopping anywhere else will never be as great. read more

So my lovely girlfriend and I come to this Costco twice a month. Ive had nothing to complaint about since we moved here in late September of 2019. But today I went to use the restroom and all toilets were busy except the furthest one (which was a handicap stall) Tell me why when I went to sit my legs were swinging. Not a member but went with a friend who is. He was looking for one particular item and since I needed some household basics I thought this would be a good time to get them. First trip was on a Wednesday morning, second trip a few months later on a Sunday morning. In both cases, the item he wanted was out of stock and the place so crazy crowded with long check out lines that I, too, left empty handed. Both times I went to Sam's Club where I used their "Scan and Go" app to buy everything I needed and skip checkout lines. A Costco store is much closer for me, but I won't even consider a membership or shopping there again until they develop a similar app that allows me to scan and pay for items with my phone and walk out of the store without the hassle of long lines. read more

Usually I get a quick and attentive service. I went to the store on Thu 9/3/15 and checked out at 4:27 PM with long lines. The name of the cashier was Taketa and she was chit-chatting with another employee while I was holding my membership card on my hand, I had to bring to her attention so she could scan my card. She was slow scanning my products and she started putting the item in the cart slowly. I had to tell her that I wanted a box and again, very slowly went to look for one. I end up putting my items in the box. I don't mind helping them, when I see that they are really working and putting the effort. read more

Went to this Costco on opening day and they were all extremely nice and friendly. I went to the optical center as well and the optometrist took his time to examine my eye and best of all, they'll take care of the paperwork for VSP as well! Having been a member of Sam's Club I figured I would give Costco a chance. I was pleasantly surprised at the similarities yet I had a feeling that here there was more organization or order with the exception of the food counter. I will get to that. The prices on electronics were more than competitively marked and were the latest releases. Browsing in the produce area shocked me at how high the beef prices were. I wonder if people just grab sometimes and don't take 5 seconds to compute what they are actually paying for things. $3.99 per lb for 80/20 ground beef is NOT a deal. Neither are $2.99 chicken breasts. Don't even bother buying ribeyes from here, like $13.89 lb WTF.. I could go on but won't. After buying a 10 year supply of fish oil and multivitamins I trekked over to the fast food counter and stood in 1 of 2 lines. When it was my turn I made eye contact with the clerk who promptly informed me that there was 1 line. Really I thought to myself after watching like 3 other people before get served. Okay, don't want to argue with people touching my food I thought. I now go directly to the end of line 1. My turn arrives and I order for the family and take the food to the table when I realize I forgot my son's slice of pizza. Darn! He (11 years old)gladly takes a $5 bill from dad and heads up to line #1 where he is like 4th in line. I glance over and the bitch that told me there was 1 line now announces "I can take your order here" ,opening a 2nd line, prompting what can be best described as a herd of puffy winter coat wearing adults and side stepping goofs to trample, butt, and talk over an 11 year old kid. I almost hate to review this location as I want to keep it my little secret. I have been a member of Costco since they first ventured into the Chicago market. The first location was in Schaumburg, if memory serves. The location on Clybourn, is the closest to my house, yet I would rather have a colonoscopy than shop there. The Ashland location is fantastic, it's easy, in and out, the best of Chicago area Costco gas prices, great parking and friendly staff. Perhaps the management at Ashland could provide some training to Clybourn and help them deal with the difficult clientele. Until then, I hope my favorite Costco continues to shine. read more

I frequent this Costco for the food staples I can purchase and store in large quantities. During the week it's never too busy and there are usually tons of free samples. The weekend is another story, with crazy long lines and much fewer freebies. There is a huge parking lot and I've never had any problems with the customer service. But, just a heads up that they don't sell diesel at the gas station. read more

This Costco is a lot like the Costco's in the suburbs (except for the one near Oakbrook Mall, which is terrible). It's easy to get to from the West Loop, it has all of the usual stuff, and there's plenty of parking (pro tip: don't turn down the first or second row when you enter the lot). First I'd like to say this relatively negative review is no reflection on the employees at the Ashland location, who I think are great. So it's great to have another Costco, but this review is entirely about pricing. Specifically, why are the meat prices higher at this Ashland Costco location than at other Chicago Costco locations, and I am referring to the lower meat prices at the Ford City location (and read on for a note about the north side location). This was definitely true as of about a year ago and it means that though this location is more convenient, I do not use it much, which is a shame. So I found this out one weekend day when I had to drive a lot and happened to be going by both the Cicero location and this Ashland location and I compared prices on the same day and found a selection of meat prices $1 to $2 *per pound* higher at this Costco, on Ashland. I did this little investigative work because I had believed there were price differences when this location first opened and thought maybe it was a fluke or mistake, but then I decided to actually record the prices. I specifically checked rib eye, new york strip, and sirloin steaks. So I asked about it and discovered this pricing manipulation that happens at Costco. I asked the meat manager and he said there was no mistake. There was no price change timing issue. He explained this "competitive pricing" situation that only *some* of the Costcos have, and those will have better pricing. He explained that it was not a mistake that their prices were higher than the price that I gave him from another Costco. Initially I told them about this problem thinking that they just made a mistake and I was trying to help them fix it. Again, this was about a year ago, and due to it I don't really shop at this Ashland location much. As far as I proved, this was only on things like meat; however, I believe it applies also to dairy and eggs too? I didn't do A-B comparisons on those items though the same day. I also believe it does *not* apply to any non-refrigerated food items, but that's just my impression. But I do believe that grape juice that is in the aisles has the same price at all the Costco stores in the area. I know this does not affect the price of things like electronics since for one they frequently publish those prices in their coupon books. One further location detail, if I recall correctly the north side location also had lower pricing! And that north side location has no Sam's Club near it, so not sure what's up there. If anything you would think the north side location would have the high prices since it's in a much better area. So again I want to repeat that it's no fault of anyone who works here, and I've had very positive experiences at this location as far as customer service, but I think Costco should change their policy about this kind of pricing. A Costco should be a Costco and that means being able to rely on pricing. And I shouldn't have to investigate and compare prices with another Costco that is 5 miles away. And also I'd like to know exactly how extensive these price differences store to store are. read more

I ordered a few pizzas to go. First, I'm not sure why they had a phone problem. I called at different times and no answer. I had to call a deferent department to get a hold of the food court. I could have easily ordered pizza from someone else if it wasn't because my family really wanted Costco's pizza. Their pizza is awesome and the young man that game the pizza was very nice and good at his job. It was clear he took his job serious and was very efficient at it. What I didn't like so much was that the lady in the back who was cooking making the pizza had an attitude. While I was paying, the cashier told her if she was working on my pizza and she responded with an attitude "they ordered it for 5:30pm and it be ready at 5:30". I did not like that, I was there a little after 5pm thinking maybe I can get the pizzas just a bit early. I will probably think twice when ordering to go from this location. This Costco is a little smaller and nicer/cleaner than the one in Lincoln Park. It gets just as busy on weekends though, and they have less checkouts - but it's your place if you need a gallon of mayo. Don't forget to buy your soda and hot dog for $1.50 at the cafe on the way out! read more

Started my first ever Costco membership a few months ago and never looking back. First off, I'd recommend getting the executive membership (120$ vs basic $60). I say this because with every purchase you accumulate cash back rewards at the end of the year. If you don't hit at least 60$ , you get a $60 check in the mail. If you accumulate more than $60, you get everything you earned still! Either way, executive membership pays itself! Also get a 25$ Costco gift card once you sign up. Since im living by myself, I didn't think it would be worth it but was I wrong! My diet is pretty healthy and straight forward (eggs, chicken breast, ground turkey, frozen veggies and frozen fruit). Buying in bulk, especially organic, has been great! Grab a slice of pizza or a churro every now and than just to cheat a little. Love it! read more

The location and products are great! If you use any of their "Kiosk" services such as heating and air conditioning, don't expect ANY service! I tried to utilize two services and did not get a response from either vendor. I recieved one initial contact and replied back and continued to follow up with them and still have not heard back after 3 weeks. Contacted Costco customer service who were of no help. they explained to me the vendor should response within 24 to 48 hours - my initial contact was a week later never heard from again. They did not stand by the services they or the vendor provides. They simply felt it was acceptable and disregarded and dismissed my claim. I am absolutely shocked with Costco and this situation. Do not use them - go through Angies List, find a reputable and highly reviewed contractor. You will get better customer services and results to your project. read more

Worst food court of ANY Costco I've ever been to. Staff is horrible (I was once told that I would have to get a refund of the pizza they just sold me because they were too busy to make it). I tried again, paid and ordered when I got in the store and THEN went shopping for 20 minutes. My pizza is done and I've been standing at the counter for 20 additional minutes to pick it up.
