The tire center will put you on hold for 20 plus minutes and the manager is rude. I called to check the status of a tire order because after a week they didn't call me and they put me on hold and the. Transferred me to a different line without telling me and it never went through to anyone. Wtf??? I then called back and was put on hold again. It's not even 11 am? This happens every time I call. Does anyone there give a shit? I never write reviews but this place is impossible to deal with. You'd think since car issues are so stressful they would be understanding but instead they're abrasive and unhelpful. This is coming from someone who is very knowledgeable about cars. Sure Costco doesn't have sales people but I don't want to be approached or followed around the store by a sales person. That's why Costco is my kind of shopping experience with brand name products I like buying including Kirkland products. We ordered online from Costco an incredible shower (complete shower) that was from Canada; at an incredible reasonable price; and that's the other thing I like about Costco their prices are very reasonable and affordable. Their customer service department will work with you to make things right if the product you bought is damaged or not what you really wanted. Last, but not least I enjoy getting my rewards and towards the end of my membership expiring, I receive my rewards check and that helps me pay for my Costco executive membership. This location has a great selection, queue services, and food court options. So worth going to this one. I will say that when I need something, I cringe at the gamble of a madhouse parking situation and am sometimes persuaded to just not go since I might not have the energy on a weeknight. It can be so packed sometimes that parking alone adds 10 mins to both arrival and departure times. I love Costco, and who doesn't?! This is not the biggest Costco I've ever been to, but I really can't complain about it. It's so conveniently located to the Pentagon City Metro and Pentagon City Mall, which I love for when I just need a couple of items. PROS: Excellent prices on so many items, including my favorites to purchase here due to their amazing prices: toilet paper, paper towels, olive oil, fruits/veggies, cheese, bread, and...wine! I also love grabbing a humongous slice of pizza at the food court - perfectly priced at $1.99. You can always get their $1.50 hot dog/soda combo too. This location also has an ample supply of cardboard boxes to pack up your items in (they don't have any bags of any sort available!). CONS: No gas station at this Costco and the parking situation is just always so hectic and out of control. Don't forget to get parking validation just outside the exit door. We're just a couple, no kids, no pets but for some reason, we consume food like a family of 4...Costco is meant for people like us. I like the location and the ample parking it shares with the mall (even though, it can be hard dragging your cart all the way to that parking lot, past Best Buy etc.). They've finally finished that new separate parking deck though and that's definitely made parking easier (also don't forget to validate your parking as you're leaving). Inside is always clean, bright and the workers are mostly friendly (although the cashiers can be a little brusque sometimes). We do the majority of our grocery shopping here and freeze things for longevity. I'm satisfied with most things except the produce...I'm always drawn in by the bright cookies of their produce section but disappointed when I get home. If you must get vegetables here, CHECK THOROUGHLY before purchasing. The fruit is a little better. Don't get attached to any item. Products can be rotated out without notice; randomly your favorite cookies may no longer be available. If you see a discarded box with handles anywhere in the store, grab it since sometimes it's hard to find them in those piles once you're at the cashier. read more

It's a decent Costco. There's no liquor given that it's located in Virginia (still a major shock to me coming from the West Coast) and this location does not have a gas station (though it does have a tire center). Parking here is way more complicated than it should be given that there's a garage. You get 2 hours of free parking with validation - make sure to bring your ticket so you can get it validated upon exiting Costco. This location is also a short walk through an indoor shopping center from the metro, but im not sure if that's your best bet given the bulk of Costco purchases. The returns line here is much slower than most of the other Costcos I've been to, and the staff there have not always been the nicest. The checkout lines are a different story - as speedy as they can be for a Costco, and super friendly! The photo center and vision center have always been really helpful, too. Samples are minimal here for the most part - definitely not as many options as other Costcos. All in all, this Costco meets basic needs - it's right in the middle of the Pentagon City shopping scene, but it lacks any of the amenities and size of Costco locations elsewhere. read more

I was pleasantly surprised when visiting Costco today. While waiting for some work to be completed, I went to the "food court" area. I have always walked past this area because it looks like fried and greasy foods that I cannot eat. But I saw an açaí bowl and decided to take a shot and grab one. It was actually pretty yummy with lots of fresh fruit. I'm not sure I will visit the food court again but it's nice to know that the açaí bowl is on the menu if I am ever hangry while shopping at Costco. read more

WORST. EXPERIENCE. EVER. AT. THE. FOOD. COURT! Phoned in an order for a whole pizza at 5:13 p.m. They took my name - that was it. Arrived at the store around 5:20 p.m. (with my three small children!) and decided to do my small amount of shopping to make sure my pizza would be ready for pick up. At 5:40 p.m. I arrive at the food court area to pick up my pizza. I go to the kiosk to pay for my pizza. The kiosk asks if I phoned in my order, and I select yes. It prints out a receipt without any indication or acknowledgement that I had called in my order ahead of time. At the pick up area, I tell them that I had called ahead - about 30 minutes ago at this point. They tell me it's coming. So I wait. It's 5:55 p.m. - still nothing. I ask them how much longer and they shrug. At this point, it's been close to an hour since I called in my order for ONE pizza. THEY HAVE NO RECORD OF MY PHONED IN ORDER. While I wait for my pizza, I go to customer service to inquire about a refund. Keep in mind, I have my three little kids with me during this torturous wait. This was supposed to be my super quick and easy dinner. While I am discussing my displeasure with customer service, they GIVE MY PIZZA AWAY TO ANOTHER PERSON. Absolute awful. Zero stars. I mistakenly thought that when the new Costco in DC (http://www.yelp.com/biz/costco-washington-2) opened up in December 2012 that this would alleviate the crowds at my neighborhood location at Pentagon City. I understand that the DC Costco is waaay on the other side of town off of New York Ave, but come on people, it is newer, has a gas station, and better parking...did I mention it has better parking? If ever there was an award for "Bumper Car Parking Lot" it has to go to the Pentagon City Costco. Review after review mentions just how impossible it is to find parking in the itty-bitty surface lot, nearby street spots, or even in the attached 5 story parking structure. If you are a masochist and foolishly decide on shopping here on a weekend (only n00bs chose to do this) one quickly sees that 50% of the cars have DC license plates...say whaaa? One last thing about the parking, no joke when I say that I have seen grown ass men and women almost get into fistacuffs over the rare parking spot. And during the holidays when Arlington County police need to direct traffic in and around the area, I simply say "fugetaboutit" As for the store itself, it is definitely showing its age and while large, is dwarfed by the locations in the suburbs of VA and MD. If I'm feeling lazy after work, I'll stop by and pick up a $6 rotisserie chicken or a $1.50 hot dog combo at the food court. Otherwise, I find myself increasingly doing lots of grocery shopping here. Big bags of spinach and kale for only $7, $2.99 for a pineapple, and a box of frozen burritos for $10. Jimmy McMillan famously ran as a mayoral candidate of NY with the slogan "The Rent is too Damn High". Well I contend that the price of groceries are too damn high!!! Yeah, I may not get the variety when buying smaller quantities of stuff at Whole Paycheck, Wageman's, or the Giant Rip-off. But I definitely know I'm saving money by purchasing food in bulk. The gf and I decided to join the Costco cult without really thinking out the logistics of doing it on a Saturday morning...the Saturday morning before Easter. What was I thinking? Parking was a mess as people were jockeying for a space in the maxed out lot and definitely thinking un-Easter like thoughts about their fellow Man. The inside of the massive store was equally chaotic as shoppers tried to make their way through the interior gridlock. It was made all the worse by inattentive parents who dragged their demon spawn offspring out to Costco and unleashed them on the unsuspecting public like it was some public playground. Next time, I'm running over those little, high fructose corn syrup-fueled, snot factories who jump in front of my cart while I'm trying to get my business done at Costco. Still, all is not bad with the Pentagon City Costco. The customer service desk was well staffed, fast and efficient with regards to the membership sign up for the gf and me. The store was clean, reasonably well organized, had lots of variety and inventory on the shelves. For the most part, we found what we were looking for. Checkout lines moved quickly as they had an ample amount of them opened to get shoppers out the door. We won't be running out of paper towels, Tabasco sauce, and canola oil anytime soon. Next time, I may try it on another day or simply come by Metro or try another location altogether. read more

I am a huge Costco fan! This particular location can be quite overwhelming at times, with the amount of people crammed in (on a daily basis!), and the parking lot being quite crazy with pedestrians walking all over the place and cars making illegal turns and such. However, once you pass the parking situation and arrive inside, the fun begins! Costco is a wholesale/warehouse club that is accessed by a membership only. They have been around since '76 and used to be under the 'Price Club' name., originating in San Diego, CA. They offer 3 types of membership: Executive (the highest level of membership with a $110 annual fee), Business (for business owners and managers; $55 annual fee), and Gold Star (usually for those who purchases things for personal use; also with a $55 annual fee). Some of the items they offer are appliances, auto/tires, items for babies and kids, clothing, handbags, computers/printers, electronics, furniture, hardware, health and beauty products, home/decor items, jewelry/watches, office products, patio/outdoor items, items for pets, and travel/luggage items. I usually stock up on their Clorox, laundry detergent/softener, body wash, shampoo, and, of course, food (olive oil, nuts, cheeses, etc.). You also receive their coupon book in the mail where they feature a nice selection of items at an additional discount; if you forget your coupon book at home, you can usually pick one up at the customer service/kiosk by the cashiers. You can also go through the exit to go straight to their 'food court' area, where they offer gelato, sundaes, hot dogs, Italian sausage, BBQ brisket sandwiches, chicken caesar salads, sandwiches on ciabatta bread, pizzas (cheese/pepperoni/combo), smoothies, and even churros (all showcasing the Kirkland Signature brand). I highly suggest in going there early in the morning, but, you would miss the plethora of samples (loooove the samples!!!) they have going on around the noon time! Though we are residents of DC, we prefer this Costco to the newer one that just opened up on the city's NE border. The staff seems to be slightly more competent here. We come here about once a month (sometimes more!) to stock up on all things essential and nonessential (it's like Target - you never leave with only the things you came here for, and wonder how it is possible you dropped three hundred dollars on groceries). The lines can be ridiculous - same goes for the parking - so try to go on off-peak times. We have certain things that we love to buy here, both for the quality and the price. Our favorite things that usually cost many times the price for a much smaller amount at our local Safeway: the humongous jar of pesto, giant jars of sun dried tomatoes and artichoke hearts, organic chicken, grass-fed beef, salmon, extra-virgin olive oil, and organic milk. Also, the regular gotta have things like toilet paper, paper towels, baby wipes, vitamins, etc. The cafe is also surprisingly decent. A slice of pizza is $2 (although you might feel a little queasy afterward!) and the gelato servings are cheap and HUGE (under $2!). Not saying I would eat here every visit, but it is a nice option for the occasional caloric splurge. The beer and wine selection is really good, and surprisingly, the bread/bakery is as well (but they recently have stopped making their amazing challah bread! sadness). Be careful with the produce, though - a lot of times it seems like a really good deal, but we've noticed that many, many of the fruits and veggies here are much cheaper at our local Safeway. So I guess, just make sure you know your price comparison points before just assuming you're getting a bargain. The best time to come is the early afternoon - that seems to be when there are the most samples! And let's be honest, people, everyone comes for the samples. read more

They have great deals on beer and wine, but for the liquor one must got to the DC location. This place is always clean and well maintained/organized. My last visit was even on a Sat. morning and I still can't complain. Many people are saying that the parking is awful. I can't say that it is great. I can say that I've never had to pay for parking. I don't know if it is because I was in and out in less than an hour of if other folks didn't get their parking validated. I don't know. All of my trips to Costco, be it a weekend or weekday, I come in with a list and try to get in and out with gusto. I don't care for samples which helps me save time and browsing whilst buying in bulk isn't economically sound for me. I am cool with Costco. read more

I don't know if this is my favorite Costco of all time. It's crowded and parking is kind of a hassle. But it does handle the crowds well and it's reasonably clean and well managed. The only times I've had problems, the manager took care of them immediately. Parking at this Costco is the biggest obstacle. The lot is small and requires you to get a ticket that can be validated for up to two hours. If you are just going to Costco, this is not a problem. But when you get inside the lot, you usually have to drive around in circles and wait for up to half an hour just to find a spot. It's a bit ridiculous and annoying. So prepare yourself mentally before taking on this challenge. We have taken to trying to street park just to avoid the bs parking problems. Also, if you aren't familiar with Costco, you will definitely benefit from bringing your own shopping bags. And the inside of the store is jammed with people almost all the time. It really defies reason, because even if you are the first person in the store, there are already people in there, walking really slowly and generally preventing you from having a fast shopping trip. The other interesting thing about this particular Costco (and it's really not much different from others) is that the prepared food line is a real challenge. The line often stretches for up to 15 people long at multiple registers. The best thing to do to avoid this problem is to order ahead over the phone or online; or to add food to your bill at the checkout. This theoretically allows you to use the side window and bypass waiting in line twice. I have the upcharged membership and so I take every opportunity to use the checkout to charge all items back to my account so as to get my 2% cashback. Note that if you don't do this, the registers at the food line are cash, only. So in sum, make sure you have some spare time when you decide to venture into this Costco. It's a great store, but it has some obstacles that you need to prepare for in order to have a sane, efficient trip. read more

I've yet to visit this store when it isn't busy! This place is ALWAYS packed. I've tried all times of the day and I can honestly say there is not a GREAT time to go. If you are looking for the worst time to go, that would be the weekends. You'll be lucky to find a parking spot, let alone dodge all the other cars to make it into the store unscathed. The selection at this store is always great. I always find what I'm looking for in quantities that would fulfill the needs of the Duggar family ('Murica!). The free samps make the endless lines tolerable and the validated parking is nice. You may not get the ultimate in quality but what I love about Costco is you can rely on getting products that are consistently very good without paying a bunch. Their meat department has excellent quality meat! USDA Prime. Even better than some butchers. If you want to impress your family or a small group of people, get your meat here. I made the best Hawaiian Rib eyes and pulled pork I've ever had from Costco meats. Free samples, a rotating selection of items, easy returns, super cheap food court, and a pharmacy that puts any other pharmacy prices to shame are some other great benefits. This Costco also sells a good selection of beers which include local brews as well as a pretty large selection of wine. Sorry, no liquor; state law I believe. GELATO! while you get your piping hot pizza and a coke for under $3 - cool off your day with yummy gelato for another $1.50. Seconding the samples: if you don't have a huge appetite, or you do, but are broke and/or trying to save money on lunch costs, you can easily fill up on the free samples. side note: you CAN get into costco without a membership, by entering through the exit, and telling the person and the door that you want to order food. Also, if you are on a diet - know what kind of calories you are intaking here, i personally don't care, but the chicken bake contains enough calories to last you a week. If you do plan on eating lunch here - get there before 12 - otherwise the lines just to get a hot dog are endless. I had to come here to buy supplies for a fundraiser I was doing. I was just satisfied. Entrance & Parking First, the parking situation was hectic. From the entrance of the street and going to the parking lot and finding places to park was a took longer time. Shopping experience. There was not enough COSTCO employees to help guide to find items. Every time we approach someone, They said " Oh you have to talk to an Costco employee". They only have number labels, with no explanation. So in order to get the directions, we went to the bakery and asked the employee there. The people who give out free sample "Ask a Costco employee." Check out experience. There are multiple check out line and the process was efficient. There was one person who helped to put things in the cart while other was checking out the process. However, they ONLY ACCEPT VISA CARD. (We live in 21st Century!!!!)
