Pretty good food hall with several retail shops and gift market options. A nice plant store, candle store, knife/cutlery shop, etc. For eats there is pizza, coffee, fish and chips, seafood, salads, ramen, bbq, bubble tea, etc. Good place to people watch and during the warm seasons they have drive-in movies. On the rooftop they have a bar/eatery and always some special events. The District as a whole is largely residential with great restaurants, including two Michelin starred restaurants and at least two Michelin Bibs. This was my first time coming here and it was on a Sunday (which I hear is the worst day to come) and Matcha World was being held at the venue behind it so it was extra busy. There were so many restaurants that I want to come back and try but it was kind of brain overload with all of their great options and the people there. Defintely a food hall x1000. read more

The Union Market District (UMD) is ever evolving and innovating. I think the addition of art within this multifaceted environment helps to make it more human, colorful, and thoughtful. Art brings in the youth, too. For example, I loved the contemporary art exhibit that was at Suite G1 recently. Entitled "Forever Fearless", it's a traveling show of 20 statues of life-sized girls. The statues are all created by DC artists and a sculptural homage to the spirit, talent, hope and resilience of females worldwide. Well done! Before UMD was UMD, it was just a hodge-podge group of wholesale vendors. There was no retail; it was disallowed. Parking was right in front of the wholesalers. I'd come here to buy tomato plants as well as various kitchen and school supplies, and dicker with them to sell to me, and sometimes they would, provided I'd buy 5 or 6 of any item. They were a tough bunch. That motley crew of wholesalers that I used to haggle with was, in fact, the foundation for what we see today. The huge main building that now serves as an anchor for UMD wouldn't be a reality for many years. In the beginning, there was plenty of parking but few vendors. Currently, there's an abundance of businesses and a challenging lack of parking. Ah, progress! read more

Washington DC (NoMA) - Union Market is a bustling food hall with a great variety of vendors, such that there is bound to be something for everyone. There is BBQ, southern/Cajun, Vietnamese/pho, seafood, made-to-order dosa, dumplings, ramen, sushi, pizza, creamery, cafe, Italian, Asian street eats, fish & chips, pastries, wraps & sandwiches, burgers & brews, salads & soups, Korean bbq tacos, fromagerie, juicery, American and Filipino breakfast, Mediterranean, and even a rooftop green space hang! A veritable international culinary spread reflective of the diversity of the city. We sampled our way around the hall: shrimp étouffée & bread pudding from Puddin', Belgian frites from Immigrant Food, pizza from Parachute Pizza, and ribs from Old Blue BBQ. Strangely all were oversalted except the ribs and pudding. Parking tip: there is a large parking lot but it took us a while to find at night. Typing "Union Market" into Google Maps is useless. You'll want to use "1275 5th St. NE" as the GPS address for the parking lot. read more

It's foolish for me not to have a review for the lovely and trendy Union Market District! After the fire in 2011, DC renovated this area. 2019 La Cosecha opened, Hi Lawn opened in 2020 and well the rest is history. For those who like country music a new bar for y'all just opened, mechanical bull and all! Really curious to see how long that lasts. We meandered through the Union Market district during a portion of our long weekend stay in DC and enjoyed several restaurants and shops. Our hotel was also based here. Would stay here again. Relatively typical mix of businesses and residential buildings and with enough pedestrian and vehicle traffic to feel somewhat comfortable walking in our small group after sunset, but still felt the need to remain very aware and avoid some of the narrow side streets and took the "long way around" to access some locations. read more

Something really for everyone here we went went and got some filipino food and it was delicious the market is full of great options and delicious food. Service was great the give you a buzzer to let you know when your food is ready so you can walk around. Just visited DC and actually ate here twice Lol. The first time I had pho and chicken soup dumplings. It was so so good Everything was fresh and hot. The second time I went, I had the bbq plate (2x2) with the cucumber salad and mac and cheese. The cucumber salad was so refreshing and crunchy. The mac and cheese was perfect. I also had the patatas bravas from the burger place. Probably my favorite thing. The sauce to dip was perfect. I also got a donut which was not the greatest (my fault because I went there are like 6pm) but I can imagine if it was the morning it would have been great. read more

With over 20+ rotating vendors, I can't count on how many fingers and toes that I've been here since its opening in 2012. The food landscape has changed so much since it's opening from meaty food to more ethnic cuisines and a cool rooftop (you have to climb up a lot of stairs!). Favorite Food Stalls: - Pho Wheels (5/5) - The newish vendor (opened in 2024) has delicious Roti Canai Tacos with crispy tofu busting with flavor. Used to go to the food truck all of the time and so glad they finally opened up a stall. - Fossette Foccacia (5/5) - Delicious sandwiches on fluffy, pillowy soft focaccia bread! The Portofino mushroom sandwich with goat cheese and arugula topped with lemon aioli was delicious! Great, new addition to the food hall! - Uzu Ramen (5/5) - The tofu ramen has a spicy kick and bursting with flavor! - Neopol (5/5) - While I haven't tried the seafood (I'm vegetarian!), the Cardamom Lemonade only $4 is very refreshing and flavorful! - DC Dosa (5/5) - The crispy crepe like dosas are bursting with flavor! I love all of the savory stuffings - the rich eggplant and sweet potatoes, curried potatoes with yukon potatoes, and roasted veggie cauliflower and cabbage stuffing. So hard to decide that I usually get all of them! The sweet peanut sauce with the spicy chutney adds a great kick! Definitely make some room for the Chaat. Fun to watch the dosas being prepared from pouring the batter into the skillet, adding in the fillings, and cooked to perfection! - Ravehook Bakery (5/5) - The weekly special tomato and mozzarella focaccia bread was scrumptious! The pies looked quite tempting! Ravenhook Bakehouse is at the City Center and Penn Quarter farmers market, glad they opened up a stall at Union Market! - On Toast (4/5) - Tad expensive at $9 for toast, the fresh ingredients make it a great brunch toast spot! This vendor closes early at 2pm. The zesty Mushroom goat cheese toast was a perfect blend of ingredients and paired well with pesto mayo on multi-grain bread (I got a choice of multi-grain or sour dough). It made up for the well-done/slightly burnt toast and the bread was okay. The grilled mushrooms was the stand-out along with the combo of ingredients! - TaKorean (4/5): Scrumptious Korean tacos and salad bowls. The caramelized tofu with house-made hoisin sauce and topped with pickled cabbage kimichi and lime crema hits the spot! The Whisked moist chocolate chip cookies are divine. - The Creamery (4/5): GrapeNut, Java Cookie, and Salted Caramel unique ice cream flavors tickle my tastebuds and the ooey gooey warm chocolate chip cookie was divine. - Immigrant Foods (3/5) - The overstuffed Falafel Bocadilla pita sandwich was smothered with tahini sauce and very messy to eat! While I enjoyed the crispy falafel balls and the fluffy pita, the red peppers, cucumbers, and other toppings sunk to the bottom of the sandwich and they were a bit more evenly distributed with the tahini sauce. With tax, I paid $18 for a good, but not stellar falafel sandwich and wish it came with a small side of fries as a default (there's a $3 upcharge!). - Spot of Tea (3/5) - The oatmilk Matcha and Black Sesame soft cream and Oreo crumble was Instagram worthy and fun to try, but nearly as tasty as it looked. It was quite bland. - Cucina Al Volo (1/5) - The pasta is undercooked and the pesto is very oily. I love al dente homemade pasta, but the pasta and sauce are underwhelming. I've been to Al Volo at the City Center farmer market and its brick and mortar shop in Metro Center and had equally terrible experiences. I'm just not a fan of Al Volo. - Outdoor Drink cart (2/5) - Don't expect craft cocktails. I prefer their wine over the sugary sweet cocktails. Better yet, I would head to the wine stall and get a bottle. Be careful walking around in the evening. Although the area is gentrifying with luxury high-rise buildings and some of the warehouses slowly transforming into Michelin Starr restaurants and boutiques, it's still a bit sketchy with grungy alleyways. I spend a lot of time just walking around looking at menus and searching for restaurants that may or may not be there anymore. Overall a great place for variety. I had dinner at Market Union at The Wharf on a Sunday, and it was a delicious and satisfying experience. I ordered a steak with broccolini and a loaded potato to go and brought it back to my hotel room. While the steak was a bit on the tough side, the flavors were great, and the meal was filling and well-prepared overall. The restaurant was busy, likely due to the Sunday brunch crowd, but the atmosphere was lively without feeling overwhelming. The waitress was very kind and welcoming as I entered, which made the experience even better especially considering how packed it was. If you're staying nearby particularly at The Harbor or The Wharf area I'd definitely recommend this spot for a solid meal, whether dining in or taking it to go. read more

From upscale sit down restaurants to casual food stalls, there is something for every taste and vibe. Thirsty? There's no lack of adult beverages to be consumed. There's even a distillery! Shopping? Union Market district is the place to be for a one-stop location to fill all of your eatery and retail needs. I came here last Saturday for the annual Jollof festival. I found row parking near the Motel 6, but parking can be tricky as spots come and go quickly. While I was waiting for friends to arrive, I stopped by a couple of African boutiques to see what men's clothing they had. The 2nd store I visited (African Fabric House) had a vast selection of men's clothing in various fabrics and colors. I was able to try them on to make sure they fit properly. I was pleasantly shocked by how reasonable the prices were. I have an upcoming trip to Ghana so these were right on time. The market district is filled with streets of other retail stores and various restaurants. This is the perfect area to spend a summer day outside. read more

I had such a great experience at this spot in Union Market! There are so many options to choose from, which makes it perfect if you're indecisive like me or coming with a group. I ordered a poke bowl and it was super fresh, flavorful, and customizable with tons of toppings. I also ordered from Bun'd Up and their bulgogi was tender and perfectly seasoned, and the pork buns were soft, fluffy, and packed with savory goodness. Everything tasted high quality and satisfying. Union Market already has an amazing vibe, but this place definitely stands out, I come here at least once a week! It's a food hall, meaning small restaurants that are either outposts of known entities in the area, or are conceptual/startup restaurants trying to make a name for themselves before getting a larger space. You can quite literally find anything you want to eat here and you can try small things from multiple stalls. Absolutely worth the trip for a breakfast or lunch, but don't go on a rainy day. Indoor seating is sparse - it's meant to use the generous amount of outdoor seating they have, which means a sunny day. read more

Ah, the much-hyped food hall in DC. Plenty of great places to eat here, far more than in other cities. We really liked the choices available - nearly every type of cuisine and a handful of non-food stores that were interesting. Pricing was on-par with other places, and arguably (dare I say) "affordable" for DC. Only complaint was that there is a severe lack of places to sit, especially indoors and for the smaller businesses that do not have dedicated space. It appears as if the summer season rules here, as there were tons of spots outside (too cold to hang out there). Also, when there were tables free, they were turned over too quickly to be cleaned, so there was a general dirty appearance to all the empty spaces. People were standing in groups after giving up on sitting options, a bummer to say the least. Will return during the summer months, when we can enjoy the space without the stress of competition for open spots. read more

This was my second visit to Union in the kitchen. The first time I was on the hunt for these treats called whims and they're so good but today I got an iced Matcha latte and it taste so good. I've been here three times now, and am always delighted by the selection of foods and beverages alongside their proud and friendly owners. Everyone was very polite and/or enthusiastic to help us, and it was pretty packed even though it was very cold outside. The costs of everything were definitely a bit overpriced, but what else can one expect from a place as such in DC? The two of us got the BBQ ribs with a side of mac n' cheese, and an order of the crab cake sandwich alongside some skinny fries. The ribs were too dry and oversalted, and came with a similarly-dry cube of cornbread and a small cup of pickle slices atop a small scoop of coleslaw, of which none were finished due to the disappointment in taste and texture. The mac n' cheese was a bit gritty, and could definitely use more cheese and/or cheese sauce, but was decent. The crab cake sandwich was fantastic in both texture and taste, and was gobbled up within a minute, and the fries were also picked clean, being very freshly made with just the right amount of frying time. Will definitely come back to try more options, especially the very highly recommended donuts! read more

As a child I remember coming into Washington DC by Amtrak & being in the Union Terminal Market. In 2012 the new Union Market opened with many restaurant and shopping options. La Cosecha a 20,000 SF Latin Market with authentic & contemporary expressions of Latin culture through cuisine, retail incubations & artist partnerships opened in 2019. Today Union Market is a District with 45-acre streetscape and two food halls. There's also a sprawling rooftop bar, the Hi-Lawn, with views of the U.S. Capitol. This place is great for large groups with a green turf dotted with picnic tables. Union Market is lined with vendors that reflect the city's rich immigrant food scene. There's 2fifty BBQ, a Texas-style BBQ restaurant run by Salvadoran immigrants; Banana Blossom Bistro serving up Vietnamese banh mi and pho, Havanna Sandwich, one of the best Cuban sandwiches in town & ruby chocolate cherry ice cream at The Creamery. Happy hour is a D.C. institution & Serenata at La Cosecha is the place for it. Union Market is a food hall with many delicious vendors which my coworkers and I very much enjoyed trying and sharing with one another. Vendors were very friendly but not pushy. It's casual and I'm sure the outside picnic area and rooftop are so fun when it's nice out. I enjoyed Bun'd Out and a dumpling stall, and took Bourbon bread pudding from Puddin' back to the hotel for a little sweet treat before bed. My coworkers enjoyed a Korean Bulgogi bowl with slaw, and a falafel sandwich. Great value, very affordable, and a fun way to try a lot of foods with small or large groups. read more

I love coming here, you can really find so many good options. We opted to get the fried chicken at Fancy Ranch and it's a deal that can't be beat. They give such large portions! A pleasant indoor place with lots of food options and various seating areas (nicer than food courts). It is much better than Philadelphia's Reading Terminal and rivals New York's Chelsea Market. It is actually beautiful in some corners, not just utilitarian. Love the creativity and fun some vendors are having, such as the Aboveground (with London Underground signage). A neighborhood with a lot going on! Visiting from the west coast, I dragged myself out of bed late (jet lag is a thing), in search of coffee and breakfast-adjacent food. I first hit Blue Bottle for coffee and a juice, and get my bearings. Once caffeinated, I wandered through the new market, and poked around some of the older shops in the neighborhood as well. There's a variety of shops in the area so worth wandering around. The Union Market food court (for lack of a better definition) is solid. Good food offerings. I had no problem finding a table, though it was Monday before noon. Ordered a tasty avocado bowl from On Toast and people watched for a bit. I'd definitely explore this area more were I to return to this neighborhood. read more

While here I tried the dumpling place, the shrimp etouffee, a milkshake (next door to the dumpling spot) and a grilled cheeses sandwich from one of the spots as you enter. I was at Union Market for the Jollof Festival this weekend. We enjoyed ourselves, but the food we were judging was cold (minus one sample). There was not enough trash containers and hard to find the one that was overflowing. Vibes, decor and set up were very nice & met great people (like at the Yelp table thanks for the fans and info on joining the Yelp Elite Squad!). I would recommend checking out Union Market & would attend again to look at the shops when an event is not underway. read more
