I'm not sure how much variance there is with Costco, at least with respect to the core offerings. This one, like others, has a lot of stuff that you can buy in big amounts. To preface this review, I love Costco in general for the following reasons: *Their business model is great for consumers. They tend to pick only high-quality products and they don't gouge you on the prices. They make most of their money on the membership fee - so once you pay for that, you can know you are getting amazing prices on the good there. *They treat employees well with competitive pay, benefits, and allow unions. *Costco uses their corporate influence for good. They lobby the government to raise, not lower, the minimum wage. For this location, I like that it's right by the Metro. I don't mind that the parking lot is a little tight - it's centrally located, not in the burbs, so it's worth it! However, at this location, it was difficult getting a customer service representative on the phone. I also wish Costco would stock healthier food products, and offer some more eco-friendly consumer goods (like Seventh Generation). I still love their over all business model. I see a lot of negative Yelp reviews, and wish they had a dedicated customer service team to follow up on bad reviews. They don't need to bribe people who have unreasonable complaints, but just listen to their issues and fix them when the customer is right. read more

Costco in an urban or city setting. Its pretty ground breaking if you ask me. Ever since the great white flight, it's good to know that peoples of all colors and demographics can still stay within the beltway and hit up a Costco- as long as it's to the left of the Potomac on the VA side. Anyways, I love Costco. This one is pretty unique in that, parking is a bitch. If you come here during a busy time, don't expect to find a parking spot immediately. You're gonna end up sharking people and following them around hoping to take their spot, when they just forgot something and need to get it before going back in the store. The parking has tickets, so you get 2 hours free...so don't plan on hanging out here all day on the weekend and eating free samples. On the other hand, the high volume and high traffic of this location pretty much guarantees that the stuff you are looking for will either be fresh or fresh outta stock. Best time to come is Sunday I've found. The samples and fellow shoppers all hauling out enough toilet paper and food to last for years is just a good sight to see. By Thursday, most of the fresh food is gone, so good luck trying to get your salad and other perishibles in bulk. Anyway, this place can save you money if you know what is a good deal and what isn't. Be careful if you are a new member and you get those coupon books... that crap is always on sale in the book, so don't go out and hoard tp and detergent... So... my cheap self finally paid the $55 to get my gold star membership at Costco. I could write a screenplay based on my efforts to use a family member or friend's card (I know that's not allowed, so sue me)... a few days ago I was finally like "screw it" and just shelled out the darn cash. And I am glad that I did! OK, the bottom line is this: Prices -- AWESOME Food -- AWESOME Service -- AWESOME (usually) Parking -- HORRIFIC Crowdedness -- HORRIFIC Trying to get in and out without spending a hundred plus bucks on bulk cereal that you don't even usually eat and wine with interesting labels that you will probably never drink and maybe something random like meat balls -- HORRIFIC That's it. At times they can get very crowded and parking sucks but they have outside parking and a parking garage now (last year or so) so it's a little easier to park than it once was. I work right across the street from this Cosco. I come here a lot. I eat lunch at the food court three times a week, and often pick up items that I need at home. On several occasions, after standing in a long line, the person in front of me has an expired membership, or they are using somebody else's membership card. Every single time the clerk or manager lets it slide. They don't require them to purchase a new membership, or they let them use somebody else's membership card. As a paying customer, this is completely unacceptable. Why am I paying for a membership when they're letting people slide left and right. This is completely unacceptable. I am tired of this. If this continues I will cancel my membership. It's just not worth it. Heck I can just come here to this Cosco and still purchase stuff even with my membership expired. Why not. read more

Overall a good Costco, with great deals on bulk items, regular items that are always reliably there, along with new items that make seasonal appearances. Employees are generally very nice and helpful. Note: it is quite a popular Costco and very crowded, particularly on weekends. My one issue with this Costco is the parking. It takes a good 10 minutes to park, which includes waiting in line to grab a ticket, then slowly circling around and hoping to find a Costco shopper leaving so I can take their spot. Great for when you're running a business or need 10,000 of everything. For some reason, this particular Costco gives me cart rage everytime. Do people smoke crack and then decided to go shopping here? The other day (and I know I'm stupid to go there during the holidays when all I really needed was toilet paper and laundry detergent) two people just crashed their carts right into me while pushing theirs along; not looking where they were going. They were looking for the next person in a hair net offering free samples of some sort of Kirkland-brand pre-packaged vittle. I try to stick to the far side aisles when I can get there. Do you ever get stuck behind those people who are going along in the crowded thoroughfare and then stop, abandon their cart in the middle of the aisle to leave you jammed behind them? Yelp is cheaper than therapy so I thought I'd just get it off my chest here. The Springfield Costco is much more sane (soccer moms strolling leisurely). And, if you're ever way out there, the Sterling one has a gas station... although your tank would be empty by the time you got back to the city. read more

This costco is the closest to my house but if you know how to navigate this costco its great. Yes parking is chaotic depending on the day you go but there is a parking garage, street parking and there own lot. The best part is they validate your parking so cant complain. Yes checking out can be a nightmare but it depends on the day once again if you go on the weekends its going to be chaos. If all else fails Instacart it and life becomes ten times better you save time and you dont have to leave your house. Regardless this costco has local vendors for coffee and certain foods which I appreciate them helping promote local businesses. And always find everything we want. Be careful if you order anything from Costco on Instacart. I ordered one item that was $209.90 (the Costco price was on it), but when I looked at the Instacart receipt, the price listed for the item was $280.90. Then they added on fees, tax, etc. on top of that! I spoke to them and emailed about this outrageous markup, but Costco said Instacart sets their own prices and Instacart says Costco negotiates the price with them. Marginally smaller than your average Costco and supported by a massive multi-story parking garage, I'm willing to bet this will be one of the busiest Costco's you've ever been to. SUBWAY: walking distance from the Pentagon City blue/yellow metro stop, and you can grab some A/C on hotter days by cutting through the Pentagon Centre mall to walk here. DRIVING: There's plenty of parking (see aforementioned garage) but it's still always super hectic and cramped. Parking is free, as long as you don't forget to validate or stay too long. SELECTION: there are some weird things they've omitted from the standard fare, like the scalloped potatoes or green tea packets I buy on the regular elsewhere. With that said, plenty of interesting items here unique to this location (see: gigantic chocolate monuments and Pentagon near the bakery section). CHECKOUT: there's almost always plenty of lines chugging away, and they are relatively efficient as long as you are ready once your turn comes. One thing they get picky about is your barcode: leave it facing up, if you are leaving an item in the cart. CHICKEN: like any good Costco, the hottest commodity here is the rotisserie chicken. The dinner rush will wipe the stock out instantly, with plenty of people waiting in the wings (hehe) for the next batch. CARTS: it's frowned upon, but if you live nearby it's not an uncommon sight to see the carts roaming around the neighborhood nearby. No location boundary locks on the carts... yet. read more

Love Costco, not this one. I haven't been on a week day so I can't give it a fair estimate but on a Saturday, two stars. We went around 12:45 it was a mad house-not their fault on that. The store has everything you need but because of the building size everything feels tighter compared to other costcos. The people giving out samples are very slow and seem to no sense of urgency. At the food court, we ordered one pizza which took almost 45 minutes. There were 4 people behind the main counter looking at the ticket orders that were not ready but when asked if the pizza order had been called they would tell you, you needed to ask the one person who was taking pizzas out of the oven. Every table was occupied with people rushing to grab it before the last person had even gotten their trash up. A clear solution to the mayhem would have been one person be the main communication for the customers who were standing around asking each other what was going on. Another suggestion would have been to have a worker asking people if they needed their trash thrown away helping to move people along so there would more places for people to sit. read more

I love costco but I hate this location. This location has some of the rudest most incompetent staff i have ever encountered It also has less selection than most Costco stores I have been to. I recently left after I got yelled at and chased down at the entrance One time watched food court staff tell a lady they were closed. When she left they proceeded to help a group of ten customers that came after her Also one guy bought a hotdog and drink combo at food court and he had been waiting 14 minutes to get his food. WIthin 30 seconds this mofo comes screaming at me out of nowhere. Literally all he had to do ask like a normal person that he was reserving the spot OR go up one floor where almost all the spots were free? Y'all need to calm the fck down! Out of all the Costco I've been to in several states, it has the worst deli counter. Either they're Def-mute employees, or they simply ignore people. I've seen so many people have verbal fights here. Look, all you have to do is have one person talk to people. They just want to know if their pizza is out or not. Selection of goods is less than other Costco's in the distant suburbs but I guess thats okay since we at least have a Costco in Arlington! Customer Service is terrible here - the other day I was in line to get some frozen yogurt and the sales person just vanished and was nowhere to be seen for 10 minutes. I requested someone to step in and get the line moving - that was received with a glare back at me. Finally I had to get the manager of the cafe to help me get a yogurt! Yes, it's crowded, especially on the weekends. If you can go right when it opens it helps. Parking is fine -- i'm not sure what folks are complaining about. Don't bother with the surface lot just go to the garage. Following the signs and the arrows on the ground is not difficult. It can sometimes be a tight squeeze getting past a large car on a turn, but if everyone just takes a deep breath, it's all good. Store is well stocked. The staff aren't overly friendly but i wouldn't be if i worked at costco either. read more

Location: (5) This place is metro-able as it is right off the Pentagon City stop. However, I'm not sure why shoppers would metro it here -- how can you carry all your purchases back onto the train? Costco is located right across from the Pentagon City mall and in the same shopping center as Marshals, Nordstorm Rack, Best Buy, and more. Basically, it's located in a shopper's dream. It's super convenient to go shopping for clothes or whatnot, then pop by Costco for some food or home items before heading home. Service: (4) Costco is mostly self service, but the workers here have always been nice to me. The food sample workers are also cordial, if not friendly. It's also nice that they don't judge when I sometimes return to a particular sampling station for seconds :D The check out lies can be monstrous on weekends, but the cashers are really efficient and get through people quickly. This store is really going down. A guy was walking around in the store forever- without a mask on...with his woman and baby and no employee approached him. I told the first employee I saw and he didn't care, as long as he put that toy basketball hoop set together. Went up front and told the supervisor... don't even know how she got the job. The International Police Task Force at the front gate is selective about who's purse they want to check...very ignorant! Costco security is so good you'll never get that far. Even though this Costco has a fairly large parking lot and parking garage, I wouldn't say parking is easy here. The lots are paid parking with a 2 hour limit but you can get your parking validated after you're done shopping. However, even disregarding the cost of parking, navigating the parking lot is a nightmare, especially if you come on the weekend. People will wait for a spot for a literal eternity, completely blocking off every car behind them. I feel like this is the ONLY parking lot I've ever seen where people do this. As for the inside of the Costco, it's fairly standard - maybe a tiny bit smaller than average? This one does have a food court attached so that's always nice for the $1.50 hotdog + drink combo! But like the parking lot, the checkout lines on the weekends are a similar horror story. Be prepared to wait in line for at least 20 minutes if you come at the wrong time. This Costco doesn't have a gas station attached, which was also a disappointment. I'm reading some of the negative reviews and I have to wonder how many of you could do what these customers service workers do? Every time there is bad experience at this Costco outlet. Today Elias at cash register did not give me any receipt and did not even have. Our test to say sorry as the gatekeeper won't allow me leave the premise without showing receipt. It's s messed up place. One of the worst Costco on earth! Managers Jessica & Mindy here not helpful. They won't give me a slip even though I spoke to corporate. Corporate informs me they will have to defer to the store! As with most Costcos its got a good selection of "buy in bulk" groceries and other things. Plus their customer service is decent to good. But compared to other Costcos, this location has a parking area that's disastrous. I love Costco and their deals but I dread going because of its chaotic parking situation. I came to Costco with my roommate (since she has a car and a membership while I have neither) to get last minute items for my housewarming party a week ago. I ended up buying way more than I needed (READ: I still have case and a half of beer left) but I appreciated only having to come to ONE place to buy everything I needed. Beer, spanakopita, bruschetta, proscuitto/mozzarella, pita chips, etc. I basically ate samples all over the store as lunch. Not exactly the healthiest of meals, but I was full by the time I left. One in particular - this sort of neufatel creamcheese spread over Carr's crackers - left me tempted to buy some. I was able to walk away...twice...without it in my cart. If I had bought it, I'm sure I would have eaten the WHOLE thing in one sitting. Yea...it was THAT good. It had lots of garlic in it too. Mmmmm. At the checkout, the cashier pointed out that I forgot to put the second 12 pack of Bluemoon in my cart. Oopsie. How the hell did I forget that?? Yet another review by the OFFICIAL Costco Connoisseur of Yelp. How would I describe this Costco location in three words? Busy busy busy I seriously DETEST this Costco....and it's in my top list of Costco locations to avoid (narrowly beating out the the Fairfax Costoc location). The parking lot is a freakin' madhouse where you need to follow people with your car (like Christine the killer car following her next victim) until they give up their parking spot. Damn those shoppers that dart between cars and trick me! Damn you!! :-) The interior of this Costco appears to contain EVERYONE from the densely populated Pentagon City / Crystal City area within its walls at anytime of the day. It's always crazy packed! Good luck making your way outta this Costco in 15 minutes or less. The merchandise is always messy (not the fault of the staff) and probably due to the high volume of people that walk through its doors. Its like every shopper stops, messes up something (or squeezes some of the produce) and completely screws it up for the next shopper. "Why are there five 3 gallons jug of peanut butter sitting in the HDTV display area?" Even the food court area is crazy full of people. If you decide to buy some food, you wait in line. You then wait in line to find an empty seat and often have to employ the same stalk-your-prey techniques honed in the parking lot to find an empty table. You also have to remember to get your parking pass validated or else you have to pay to park. Never happened to me, but I could tell as I was leaving and waiting behind some genius that he/she forgot to pay....hence the 10 minute discussion between said genius and the parking booth attendant. VALIDATE YOUR PARKING PASS!!! Did I mention I hate this Costco? Ugh...never again. If it wasn't for the great prices and the fact that I needed to pick up a ton of food after dropping someone off at DCA, this Costco would get 1 star.
