Local, friendly, fast and convenient shop. Came here back in 2020 right before Covid hit. Had them tune up my Cannondale. A bit pricey for my liking when I saw the bill but worth every penny. The bike was like new! They even cleaned it up nicely. I remember coming to pickup my bike and the whole world was shutting down, I gave the owner a full 1 gallon sanitizer bottle to help them get through the shortage of sanitizer at the time. Fast forward to 2025, picked up some parts for my kids bikes and was very surprised how reasonable the prices were this time around. Glad I can bring my kids to a local bicycle shop that the owners are nice. Better than Sportif (if you lived here in JP back in the day) that guy was a JERK. I came to Chicago, slept for three hours on the plane, and I was still full of energy. So, my friend and I decided to take a bike and ride from the suburbs to downtown. The maps showed us that it would take about two hours. Unfortunately, halfway through our ride, my bike's rear tire blew out. But we were lucky enough to be near Cosmic Bike. We got there 10 minutes before it opened, but the employee was friendly and kind and took my bike right away. We waited about 15-20 minutes, which I was glad about because it's pretty quick. Great find of a place since it been around forever. I was surprised to find this place using my internet search. I usual frown upon finding places at the last minute. To my surprise, they had a place to get my bike inner tube in stock although my tube was a common size. It's one of those things that when you want to find something now, you need it get it fast and at a reasonable price. I have seen a bunch of bikes stores that would charge you an 'arm and leg' to get something basic like this. I am not sure if there prices for other things and I would think it would be competitive enough since you can get things online these days. As with any higher priced item over $300, I would check online. Anyways, it was a nice thing to meet friendly people on staff and older guys like myself to handle and work with customers. I really like this place, my wife and I used to be very avid bike riders. Until my older son borrowed my bike left a chained in the rain. Don't have kids. However, I blew a flat which tore my brake system off. Weird accident. I called, Chris said he had a huge delay, but just to take care of the flats with insulation was a quick pitstop. I will bring my wife's bicycle here for a tuneup, I like the way they work here. Very professional. And some products, Surly. And city style bicycles. While shopping, I searched Walmart, for basics, like gel chairs etc. Cosmic bikes was only a few bucks range, give or take. These folks are nice, and I decided to buy some accessories with my tuneup. I dont know why I always wait until the last minute to get my bike tuned up before my annual 30 mile bike ride with friends. I was out of luck last year and thought I would be again this year but Cosmic Bikes answered my prayers! It was Tuesday and my ride was on Saturday. They were able to squeeze me in, update/upgrade my whole bike by Friday. It did cost a lot of money but my hubby paid for it so it was worth it. They did a great job so will use them again in the future! read more

This guy, Chris of Cosmic came out and picked up 4 bikes for repair. 2 flats and 2 tune ups. In the afternoon on a Tuesday he drove over in his mini-van and picked all 4 up and returned the 2 with flats the following day. The other 2 are more just extra bikes that needs some chain and brake love. The idea that Rapid Transit, formerly in wicker park, opened in 94' and sadly closed and now are finding more folks like us to follow them to this new location. Give him a call and see what's happening and if he can give you a bike repair while you're freezing in the winter! Heck, maybe all your bikes can be suped up and ready to go by the time spring begins and you will give this shop some business in the slow cold times. read more

Cosmic Bikes is a fantastic, local bike shop in Chicago dedicated to building a biking community. They are also one of the few bike shops who are authorized Brompton (folding bike) dealers, and the only place I would go to to get a Brompton. I visited a couple Brompton dealers here and was shocked that some of Cosmic's competitors did not even know how to properly fold and un-fold the bike. The owners of Cosmic, on the other hand, has been working with Bromptons for years, and owns and rides Bromptons for personal use as well. I had a specific customization of a Brompton that I was interested in getting, which typically would have involved a 7-8 week waiting period. However, after discussing with Justyna at Cosmic, she was resourceful enough to look into converting a similar bike from their east coast warehouse to my preferred specification at no additional cost to me, bringing the waiting period down to a little over a week. The amount of attentions and detail they put into bikes is amazing. When my bike arrived, Justyna noticed that my Brooks saddle was a little "off" and not perfectly centered, so she asked Brompton to send another one, and in the meantime let me use a standard saddle while waiting for my replacement to arrive. I am not sure if many other bike shops would have taken that initiative. I love that Cosmic offers a year's worth of bike maintenance and service on new Bromptons. They have already done a fantastic job helping me service and solve minor practical issues as a new bike owner, and also do a great job of custom-ordering additional parts and accessories on my behalf. read more

Cosmic Bikes is wonderful. They did a good job tuning up my older Trek 7500 cross bike. Recently, Cosmic provided fast service fixing a toe cage and fitting Ortlieb panniers on my rack. I might add that the panniers were cheaper at Cosmic than on Amazon. Great deal and great service. Just this week I had new toe cages installed. One just busted after years of hard wear. I overheard the owner telling the associate to add some extra hardware to the right cage as he remembered my problem I had had months ago. Cosmic Bikes has a good selection of mainstream and custom bikes for the whole family. Justyna, one of the owners, patiently answered all my questions via email, phone, and in-person. It took me over 6 months to decide what I wanted based on the bike manufacturer's online catalog. I ordered a bike and later exchanged it for another model without a problem. I haven't taken advantage of the shop's workshops for beginners to do simple to advanced repairs during the winter season. They also have a blog about various trails in the state. In May I took a hybrid bicycle for a test ride from Cosmic Bikes. It had been a while since I was on a bike, but the choice of a Kona bike was a good fit. After a few small adjustments I was sold. I purchased the Bike in June as a retirement gift for myself and I have thoroughly enjoyed nearby trails and cruising in the neighborhood. The owner, Justyna, is knowledgeable about all aspects of the many bikes they have available. The purchase comes with a one year free maintenance package which was the icing on the cake! Based on my own personal experience: 1st: brought my bike in for a tuneup. Cost: $120 by the time they were done. Fine, except they forgot about my bike in the back for a week (and I was stuck paying for a train commute: appx. $22.50 in CTA fees when I could have been on my bike) and because of that generously waived the $10 in parts I guess I needed? A bearing and something else that I didn't notice. (Original reason for going in: just to get my rear wheel trued up.) 2nd: literally only needed my pedals loosened, didn't have the leverage to do it myself. Cost: $15 after I made an incredulous face about it. Now, they did completely change them out for me because I had the new ones I had bought on hand, apparently it would have been $15 either way. (The pedal wrench they had in there for sale was $14.99. Should have just bought that and did it myself.)NOW all of a sudden my bike is on the stand and he noticed my rear derailleur was a little bent and it was "risky to keep riding like that". Cost to straighten: $30. Also noticed that my rear presta valve was slightly bent, which I notice everytime I fill them myself, but the tube was FINE and holding air. I told him not to worry about it because I put a security axle in it and it's a pain in the ass to get on and off. As a courtesy, he filled up my tires and greased my chain (again, could have done myself - if you go in there just for that he said it costs $8, FYI. For air and grease.) and funny thing is, when I woke up this morning to ride to work, I had a rear flat, and it was making weird clicking noises. They also said my next tune up would probably run me close to $200 because now my cogs need replacing and I need a new chain and rear derailleur, since this one was previously bent. My car does not even cost me this much to maintain?? Now, take what you want from this but literally everything was riding fine for me before I went in here; all I wanted were my pedals loosened. Just seems like they find things wrong every time I'm in, and upselling me on work that's probably not an immediate priority. Your call! I won't be going back. YouTube and ordering parts online are cheaper. read more

Just had a most pleasant experience buying my son his bike from Chris at cosmic bike. You can tell he's been around bikes and people who enjoy bikes for a long time, almost a 180 experience from the big box stores. The bikes in stock where a bit limited but thankfully,we found what we where looking for. They even let him go for a test ride in the park across the street to make sure he felt comfortable with the chosen bike. The bike was built well and calibrated, no loose handlebars or misaligned brakes or popping chain, you can tell a professional put it together. Also, the bike comes with a year warranty and free tune ups within that year. I would visit this shop in the future when I'm in the market for a new bike again. read more

These guys are great and I'm glad they are in my neighborhood. They are skilled, efficient, and friendly. My spouse's bicycle has been victim of component theft more than once and we've had to bring it in for repairs and replacements multiple times. Out of sympathy they once cut us a deal on some parts which was unsuspected but very appreciate. They didn't have to buy our sob story and gave us benefit of the doubt. Since then we have been loyal customers. We've made several purchases here and will continue to recommend to our peers. Some places replace tube for only 10 bucks. But I know some places have bigger shops. Here A man named CHRIS even charged me 4 bucks for 2 bolts that I can get a whole pack of from Home Depot. And I even volunteered to do so. I just brushed it off and at the end I asked to see the little baggie so that I could check the price of the bolts on Amazon. That's when this guy just snaps snatches the bag away and basically tells me to get lost and fix my bike at Amazon too. He was really polite in the beginning but idk man might've just been a sham to get my money. Not worth the hassle. read more

What a great bike shop. I ride +50 miles a week, as a result I put heavy wear on my bike. On a Saturday ride my crank fell apart, this is after another well known bike shop just did a tune up. Did a search based on my location and came across Cosmic. Not only did they take the bike that day but they provided a fix within 20 minutes to let me go enjoy the day. If that wasn't enough they provided in depth research to rectify the problem long term. This is a great bike shop. You'll find a good deal of pretentiousness at some of Chicago's bike shops but not here. Just great people who really care about cycling and getting people out there on two wheels. I came in a few weeks ago to buy a new bike and I was really happy with the overall experience. Last year, I bought a Trek road bike, which is my daily commuter, from another shop and I was really happy with that experience but after visiting Cosmic Bikes, I started questioning my experience at the Trek shop. For example, when I bought my Trek, I also got a rack and fenders because I'd be commuting to and from work on that bike. I spent a decent chunk of change on the bike and accessories and I was a little disappointed that they also charged me a relatively ridiculous rate to install the rack and fenders. With that being said, I've never had a bike shop install accessories so I thought that it must be the norm. Not at Cosmic bikes - when I bought my new Kona, I picked up a rack and fenders and they installed them for free. In fact, in the first year of ownership, they'll install any accessory that I purchase for free, they'll fix flats for free, they'll make free adjustments, and they'll do a free tune-up. these are all things that I've been paying for at the other shop. Overall, I felt like they really took the time to answer my questions, let me test ride a few options (multiple times because I couldn't make up my mind), and then they did a comprehensive systems check and made multiple adjustments before I cruised on home with my new ride. When I went into this shop, I really intended to just browse their selection and visit a few other shops. It was their assortment of bikes, their friendliness, and the post-purchase services that convinced me to buy from Cosmic bikes. These guys are great - I can't recommend them enough. read more

I bought a bike at Cosmic Bikes this past summer. I had visited several stores, including the big box stores. There was no comparison in the level of knowledge. I went to Cosmic twice and both times they were only concerned with figuring out which bike was the best fit for my needs. Fast forward several months and I got a flat tire after a long ride. This was likely caused by a combination of under inflation and riding over a construction area. In any case I brought the tire in and Cosmic replaced the tube, free of charge, no questions asked. They stand behind their products, are friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. You can save money at a big box store but will not receive the same level of quality and service. They obviously value their customers and want them to come back. I wish more businesses understood this concept. read more

They do great work here and Chris took the time to show me everything that needed work on my bike and why, as well as how much or little work it would take to fix each thing. He also walked me through how to maintain everything on my own as far as when the breaks start wearing down and showed me how to correctly align the tires if the breaks are rubbing at all. Charged 60$ for tightening and adjusting my disk breaks. The mechanic spent 3-6 mins adjusting, seems to be very high. Once I got home I had to redo it myself. Although the staff was very nice, maybe they should reconsider the pricing. read more
