Came in for a bike adjustment/tighten and was told to come back another day. Owner is too busy. Very short and unfriendly response. First time coming into the store, its a shame that the first impression as like this. In a matter of three months, I had a flat 3 times. The two first times, I went there to get my flat tire repaired. I explained the situation each time but they didn't listen and just changed the flat in 2 minutes. The third time I got a flat, I went to another bike shop to check and had to explain again. This time, the other bike shop actually took the time to figure out that there was a tiny piece of glass inside the tire, which was the source of all the flats. Hate to bust its perfect bubble but....not sure I understand the appeal. I came in for a quick front break adjustment. They charged me $15 which I thought was unreasonable, but I paid it because I do not have the tool or complete know how to do it myself. The woman at the counter was unfriendly (at best). The repair gentleman was a little friendlier and talked to me a bit, but it felt like they didn't want the business. I actually almost said, "I am going to pay you. Do you want to do the adjustment or not?" They eventually did the adjustment and quickly. I believe their prices are reasonable, but they are not terribly friendly to deal with and the shop was dark and kinda dirty. Nothing was well merchandised to look for things I wanted and quite frankly they were so unfriendly I didn't want to bother asking. Guess I gotta find another joint..... read more

I used to live relatively close to this place and whenever I had trouble with with mike I would take it into them. they are great and the hours are reasonable. To this day I would consider going back to this shop even though I'm not that close any more. Prices are very reasonable and there turn around time is pretty quick. read more

Very nice and knowledgeable couple own this business and work in it. They are very kind gave us a discount on the tubes we purchased so we could pay in cash and we would not be charged the extra fee for card. They also have us a quick lesson about inner tubes and the inner strips. The rating on yelp seems very unfair to me, a lot of nonsense from people that don't seem to understand businesses. They're prices are pretty good I've seen reviews complaining of 15$, 30$ or so and if your going to a bike store and upset about spending 15-30$ why are you even there if it was any cheaper they'd make almost nothing. Other reviews were angry about them needing to do requested work the next day. I mean it's just the two working there, pretty entitled to leave a 1 star because they had other bike jobs before yours. I will definitely be returning for my bicycle needs they are so much nicer than many snobby bike shops I've seen around Chicago. read more

This shop is great. They service bikes they've sold there for waaay longer than the posted 1 year. I brought my bike back for a tune-up 6 years after I bought it. They tuned it up for free. I bought a very nice beach cruiser for my 6-year old daughter at a very good price. High quality at a box store price and they assemble it for you professionally. They have affordable prices and they also carry the high-end stuff for the serious biker. Oh and BMX, BMX, BMX. I wish I knew of this store when I was a kid. I have found the owners very nice and friendly, I don't know what some reviewers were talking about. read more

Horrible, worst Bike Shop I've ever dealt with. I called them to change out a simple cog on my fixie very quick process I just don't have the tools to do it I asked the guy who picked up the phone how much they would charge to do this and he disrespectfully said he's not interested and hangs up the phone on me rather than taking a few seconds to understand what I wanted done and make them a couple bucks he'd rather tell me he's not interested what kind of business is that I don't see that business lasting too long people please don't go there if you need a good bike shop go to Rudy's Cycle and Fitness on Irving Park Road that's a real bike shop compare to this hole in the wall with cheap Chinaman parts and expensive prices definitely will never recommend anybody to even look at this place read more

The lady from elmwood park hit it on the head. Im in my late 30s and frequented this place all through my childhood as it was THE BEST BICYCLE PLACE AROUND! THE PROBLEM IS THERE USED TO BE AN OLDER MAN WHO RAN IT AND HE WAS AWESOME. IF YOU DIDNT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY HE WOULD LET YOU SLIDE ON A FEW BUCKS NO PROBLEM. My husband brought his bike here for a thorough tune-up before riding the Apple Cider Century this year, and boy do we regret it. The weekend hours are great, especially since he uses his bike all week to commute to work. Unfortunately the promised 48 hour turn-around was not communicated to the repair man. Four days later, my husband called only to find that they wanted his okay to perform the work that they found needed to be done. He arrived to pick it up only to find that they wanted him to SEE the work that needed doing, then rushed through the fix. Strangely they replaced his shifter without so much as a peep. ??? A few days later, as my husband's gears pop and grind up the dunes of western Michigan, you can bet he was none too pleased. I returned in an attempt to get some sort of refund of the almost $200 we spent, but was denied. Was even told there was nothing wrong! He wanted me to leave the bike so they could check it out, but there is no way we are leaving any bike there ever again. read more

When I brought in my bike, all that needed to be adjusted/fixed were my brakes. They told me it would be $25 to fix both the front and the back. A few days later, I got a call saying it was done but they had to mess with the rear wheel because there was a problem with it. The lady didn't go into much detail and said it would come to about $43. I wasn't too happy about that. Whatever, I went in to get it and the brakes were fixed. They then said that the front wheel had to be adjusted and the total came to $30. I was utterly confused but whatever it was cheaper than I had thought it would be. Here's where it gets good. I took my bike for a spin and the gears where definitely not where I left them. I was changing gears and as I rode, I consistently heard clicking. I had never had this problem before I brought the bike to them and I shifted through all gears seamlessly. I brought it back into them and asked them if they had to mess with the rear wheel or gears at all. They said no, but on the phone they said they did. Once again, I was very confused. So I told them I had never had the problem before I brought the bike in and the mechanic pulled out a rosary yelling at me that he swears on his rosary that he didn't touch the gears. I tried to reason with him but he kept yelling and threw me out. Needless to say, I will never be going back there again. Throughout this ordeal, they kept calling me Brian... That isn't my name... At all.... I would not suggest going to the bike shop unless you are severely desperate. read more

Grand Cycle is small, but has a great selection of BMX and adult bikes all at great prices. The friendly attitude is refreshing. I take my family's bikes here annually to get a tune up, and the bikes get to working order. The couple who own the shop are serious, quiet, and to the point. They know their bike business and have made suggestions when my wants were unreal. They carry bike accessories that I can't find anywhere else. And if they don't have the little bell or basket that I need, the couple is not afraid to tell me where to buy it. The flat tire, brakes, or gear fix never takes more than a few hours to repair. I would suggest that everyone bring their bikes to this mom and pop shop. read more

This store came highly recommended by a co-worker, but I already was satisfied with a different bike shop. I tried to drop off my son's Raleigh at that other store one evening, but they had closed early. Remembering my friend's recommendation, I brought the bike into Grand Cycle. When I got a call less than 24-hrs later and was told the bike was ready for pick-up and the cost was only $25, I jumped for joy! My son had run over something, and the derailleur was hanging off and had took part of the frame with it. I thought that if the bike was repairable, that it would cost me an arm and a leg to have it fixed properly. Since then, I have had Grand Cycle do various repairs to an old Cannondale that I purchased, and I have always been extremely satisfied with the results. I took my grandsons bicycle to be repaired for a flat tire. Dropped it off on a Monday, picked it up on Tuesday,. My grandson rode it for 20 minutes on a sidewalk and the tire exploded. I took it back so they could fix it. He said the wheel is bent, the tire had a slash and there are loose screws and it was going to cost me another $20 after already paying him $40. There is no way all that could have happened in the short period of time he rode the bike. What a ripoff....Take your business elsewhere. read more

I will never go into this place again. The people are rude and they definitely have a type of customer (shall I say color?) they cater to. Every time I go in there, they don't speak to me, make me wait while 1 or 2 of them makes themselves busy fiddling behind the counter and then take care of other folks that come in after me. I only continued to go there because it was close. Yesterday, I brought in 2 bikes with a quoted $250 worth of repair but the owners took care of a gentleman after me whose bill came to $40. The place is kind of grimy and you always get the feeling you might be getting taken advantage of. I took my bikes out of there to a nice place in Oak Park that treated me with courtesy, got the work done right away and was a TOTALLY different experience. Their loss! read more

This place is terrible. All I needed was my left shifter repaired. A part inside of it was broken or disconnected. I figured for an expert this would be a walk in the park. I took the shifter apart myself to see if I could fix it but decided to give up before I broke something. When I walked in he accused me of having lost parts without even looking at it. I told him I just took it apart 15 minutes before and didn't lose any parts. I should have walked out right there. He said he would look at it. They called me the next day and said he couldn't fix it (thought this was his profession) but a replacement would be $42. I asked how much the replacement part was and they said $20. I said alright, I'll just buy the replacement and do it myself. I had to go out of town so I had my parents pick it up. When I got home the whole shifter had been removed, the wire no where to be found and in a bag with no replacement part and a $10 charge. $10 for taking off one bolt? Then they said they didn't have the replacement part. Maybe because I wouldn't pay the $20 install? I looked at my handlebars and my brake was on backwards and my pads were broken. Realize my only problem before was that I couldn't shift the 3 gear derailleur and now the bike is completely unrideable. DO NOT use this guy. Terrible customer service and completely incompetent. read more
