After my usual bike shop gave me a whole lot of condescending attitude regarding my flat tire, I decided to take my business elsewhere and I am thrilled I landed at Comrade's. I called to see if they could take me in for a flat. Told me they were busy but to still come anyways since it's a quick job. I came in, they took out the glass from my back tire, gave me a new tube, charged me $17 and I was out the door within 10 minutes. THEN... the next morning, same tire, another flat. I was livid because it's just time out of my day again and having to go back and deal with this. I came in with mental arguments on why the fix should be free... and before I could even say anything, he told me the labor and tube will be FREE. Automatic 5 stars from me! He was beyond apologetic and suspected he didn't examine the tire itself closely enough. Turns out the glass left holes in the tire and he suggested I get a new tire because it would be a matter of days before I would be back. New tire, new tube, charged $27, out the door again within 10 minutes. They are very quick, very nice and actually acknowledged a mistake and didn't try to spin it. So after my local bike shop in the suburbs gave me a tuneup and a new chain - my bike still was having issues catching on at the highest gear. It would lock or skip when pedaling. Absolutely frustrating to say the least. I went online i decided to look for another shop that focuses on repairs and came across comrades. Within 30 seconds he diagnosed the issue. Ends up that when you change the chain you should replace the gears. My local shop in the suburbs looks like they only cleaned the gear. So 37.00 later (25 for the part, 12 for labor) bike was fixed and im back to riding 10 minutes later. I drove an hour from bartlett to come here and will never trust anyone else with my bike. I was so happy considering my local guy wanted to charge 200 extra- and this was 37- cant be beat. I gave them and extra 13 to round up to 50 and said thank you. Hi! I work at Cleo's across the street. I needed some simple fixes I probably could have done myself but I was just plain tired and needed someone else to take the reigns. Blown tire tube, handle bars, new seat replaced. I called the day of and they accepted my bike that night. Super friendly on the phone and I informed the gentleman of my issues when I arrived and he was completely compassionate and understanding. I felt everything was in good hands. He said it would be ready the next day! I was like OK! I went to pick up my bike the next day and a very nice young lady greeted me. She brought out my bike and it looked great! I could tell they did a little TLC. I mentioned I would like to look at some new seat options and she brought out a couple with knowledge to boot. She offered to install it for me and I said OK! I came to comrade to get the brakes on my bike fixed because they seemed less expensive than any shops that were in or near the loop (shocker, I know). Although they were pretty backed up with orders, they got my bike fixed in about a week and a half and it's works great now! Absolutely amazing service!! What I appreciated most is that they didn't try to overcharge me or belittle me for not being super bike savvy. Also, very timely, attentive, and knowledgeable. I brought my Raleigh road bike in because my rear derailleur was crooked and caused my chain to easily come off whenever I hit a speed bump. Ended up getting a tune up (had the bike for years and never got one), a new rear derailleur, new brake pads, and new tires. Lauren (or Laura) helped me with everything and was super upfront about what was needed and what could wait. My bike feels brand new!! And I paid less than what other city bike stores charge. Basic tune up is $70 whereas some bike stores in Logan charge $100. They texted me updates about the service and asked for my preferences before doing anything that would add to the cost. I feel safer riding to and from work now. So happy for this awesome neighborhood bike store! read more

I love my LBS on the far South side (Beverly Bike and Ski), but with the relatively recent purchase of a Brompton that I ride for 12 miles every day commuting, and which needs 6 folds/unfolds every day, I started visiting these guys. They are closer to my work than Cosmic Bikes (another terrific bike shop) and they specialize in Bromptons. I have been *very* impressed with their service. They are efficient, knowledgeable, and do high quality work. Best yet, they are affordable and honest. I can do a lot of bike work myself as I teach Build-a-Bike classes; however, I don't want to deal with the fussiness of internal hubs (of which I have two, one for gears and one for lights on this bike). The staff at Comrade have been invaluable with making minor tweaks to optimize my ride (with no charge!) and have not only fixed a rear flat but have also done some repairs with my gearing. I highly recommend them for any work you might need done with a Brompton, whether it's routine maintenance or more finicky work on brakes or gears. ---- Brought my Brompton in for it's spring tune up (after about 1000 miles this past year) and spent about $120 on it if I remember aright. Got my bike back and took it out for my morning commute like usual. I had to stop my bike after a couple of blocks and give it a good look over. Was this MY BIKE??? Holy cr*p, it rides like it's new. I mean, like it's REALLY new! New chain and new cables, a replaced front crank (due to a crash during a snow storm where I bent it), plus a good tune up have made a transformative change on my daily ride. I thought my ride was doing fine and just needed a small derailleur adjustment and new brake pads, but clearly it needed more. I am so grateful for the terrific service and improvements. So worth every cent of the tune up. read more

I've had mediocre service here, but girlfriend likes her bike serviced here so I sometimes will take it in. Last time, I brought a list with what she wanted done and gave it to the service folks, and told them it was her bike. The service guy looked over the list and also suggested replacing a part that I know had just been replaced only a year and a half ago, and frankly still looked and functioned like new. I asked if they had a record of that, and he said he couldn't find it in the computer. I pressed on, and he got another guy there who did find it in the computer after quickly looking. It left A bad taste in my mouth, almost like they were trying to pull a fast one. Also, the service here with the employees is very hit or miss, some are very nice and some have attitude for some reason or another. I personally would find another shop, but she likes it here and wants to stay using them. read more

I brought my bike here about a month ago because it was making this really weird clicking sound on my commute to work. I freaked out a little considering I don't know jack about bikes. After work I decided to pop in Comrade before meeting up with a friend. Really friendly attitudes as soon as you walk in. I told one guy what was up and he in turn asked another guy (sorry, I didn't catch names) to come check out my bike. After inspection dude told me that my brake line was deteriorated. I guess he saw the confused "I don't know what you're talking about look" so he showed me the different areas where it was chewed up. I asked him how much and how long it would take to fix and he told me he could fix it then and there within 30 minutes. Sure enough, 25 minutes later he was done and labor and parts were under $30! As many other have stated, they're just really down to earth peeps. There are no pretentious attitudes and they didn't make me feel dumb for not knowing anything really. While I was there, I saw they had a small selection of bikes that are reasonably priced. I think once I feel more comfortable commuting by bike in general, I will look to Comrade for my next bike. But before then, I will most certainly be back for anything else my current bike may need. read more

I walked in and literally 20 seconds after I did, a short man walked in with his hand raised snapping snapping snapping, "Service - Service - Service" A nice guy in the back came out quickly and asked me if he could help. He was fantastic. Taller guy, told him my budget and he even showed me a few in the back that were last years model at a lower price. Hes not the reason for the one star. When the employee asked how he could help me, I suggested he help the little flamer with the attitude. Oh- hes one of the owners. Boom. Lost my business. Any business owner who snaps at his employees should not be an owner. Bike shops are one of the few brick and mortar businesses that can give Amazon a run for their money. Why? Because of the attitude and sport of the business. You cant talk to a guy who bikes at Amazon about a hamstring injury, or ask what to do about a case or road rash, or ask an opinion on good long straight or short and hilly rides. That's why you go to your bike shop, and in the process pick up some tubes a little above retail price, maybe a gel or two, a cool new light because someone ripped off your old one etc.. I'm still friends with the ex owner and many of the employees of Tribe in Phoenix because they took the time to build those relationships. The owner was an intricate part, happy employees stay and build business. Mean owners who treat their employees like children do not encourage business. You ever notice how some bike store employees have been their for years?? That's not because of the location, the brands the store carries, or the money. Its because of the owner. Short man: ask yourself how you would want to be treated, and snap to it. read more

I have to admit, when the "Coming Soon" signs for this place first showed up awhile ago I was equally excited and a bit nervous for Comrade. Excited because I love bicycles, and knew that if I had a quality local shop in my neighborhood that it would be used quite a bit for maintenance and some new equipment. Nervous mainly around the name. This is Ukrainian Village, after all. Most of the old Ukrainians either left their "comrades" in the Soviet Union, or came from families who did so. Not sure what some of those people think of the Comrade name and all it might conjure- but from a service and business perspective, these fine people do great work. My first experience in dealing with their service was when Big Red came into my life. Big Red is a beast of a gorgeous Nishiki 12-speed that I inherited from a friend who was moving and didn't have room in his new place for her. Being the good guy I am, I wanted to welcome her into my life with a bit of tender loving care. But considering my hands aren't capable of that task, I decided to bring her to the professionals here. Purchase and installation of a wrack, fenders, tune-up and some nifty market pannier bags- and Big Red is ready to roll, literally, anywhere I need to go- and all completed with a very reasonable price tag. Best part is, she's equipped now for all weather conditions and gives me the ability to load up on big shopping trips with comfort, ease and without having to worry about taking my wife's kick ass Dutch bike from her for those big trips. As a woman, going to bike shops is generally a pretty anxiety inducing experience. I've been treated poorly at just about every shop I've ever been to whether it's employees being annoyed at my very presence to treating me like an idiot because I didn't feel like fixing my own flat (I'm lazy, whatever!). But Comrade is seriously the best bike shop experience I've ever had. Everyone is helpful and friendly and I always feel completely welcome, which is pretty incredible. These guys are amazing at quick repairs. My hybrid bike took a tumble off of my bike rack while driving. The rear wheel was damaged beyond repair, so I called on a Saturday, and did their curbside drop off service (thanks COVID-19). I had a fairly priced out quote, with parts and labor within about a half hour. They were able to turn the repair around in an hour and had it ready for me to pick up.
