The clerk was up on his shoe game which was good, because I haven't bought shoes in a long time and didn't really know what I needed to replace my old shoes. The people and the service are good. We had three bikes in there for 2 brake service and a full service on another. While we lucked out that we can wait for the brake service, we had to wait on a few weeks for the full service. I went there for a replacement tube because it's close to home. Guy at the counter asks if I want presta or schrader. I say probably shrader because that's on the other wheel, but either works. (Bought bike used; the front presta tube blew out.) He brings the tube over and says "you know that's the bigger one." I showed up with a flat tire (after the 100 degree heat popped the inner tube) on a Sunday afternoon and they fixed it right away. I was riding the bike out the door within 15 minutes after I brought it in. The cost for the labor and parts was about $17 after tax. I appreciated the efficient service and not gouging customers for the service and parts. I could've saved $5 on service if I knew how to remove the wheel. But I don't know how to fix or maintain the bike on my own, so the $10 for labor I paid was totally worth it. Every time I visit Turin I feel like I am seeing friends who care about me and my bike. When I went into the shop Jon listened to my concerns and immediately took my bike and put it on the on his Silca stand. He flipped the bike over with and found out what was wrong with it when others failed to diagnose my sick bike correctly. Jon explained what was wrong in a non-condescending manner that made sense to me. He gave options on repairs and replacements that I didn't feel were ridiculous. To get me on back on my bike immediately Jon installed temporary bottom bracket bearings while new higher end ones were ordered. He kept me up to date during the whole process. If you own a higher end bike I would highly recommend getting it repaired at Turin. Jon knows his stuff and isn't afraid of walking you through the process and repairs. read more

As a first new, first-time bike owner, I had a really good experience with this shop. I picked up a bike from my neighborhood "free box" Facebook group and brought it in not knowing how much work it needed. Besides a basic tuneup, it needed a new chain and brake cable. It was ready after a few days and looked so spiffy compared to when I brought it in. They were patient with me in answering all of my questions and didn't make me feel silly. They helped me find the serial number of my bike, installed the holder for my lock, and showed me how to use said lock (again, first-time bike owner in Chicago). Everyone (employees and customers) was wearing masks and the music selection was excellent both times I visited (Modest Mouse & Amy Winehouse!). I didn't need to book an appointment to bring in my bike, but you will have to ring the doorbell when you arrive and wait for someone to let you in. read more

Even though there's another bike shop much closer to me, I prefer to walk the 25-30 mins to Turin because I feel that much more welcome & confident that I'll be able to find what I need. Lots of shops can have a tendency to be on the condescending side, especially to more feminine customers, which can make it harder for inexperienced cyclists to feel comfortable asking questions and learning more. But this isn't about other shops! The first time I went in, I was biking home from work and one of my brake cables came loose. Luckily I was a few blocks away from here and sheepishly rolled in to get it looked at. At the time I didn't know much about bikes and although it was an embarrassingly easy fix, the guy who let me in popped it back into place, explained what it was and how it worked, and sent me on my way. He was friendly, patient & professional even though the store was pretty busy. As other reviewers have said, the folks who work here are consistently welcoming, courteous, and thorough. I can't attest to the speed/price of repairs since I now do most of my repairs at home (we love learning!), but they've always been super helpful when I need to go in to buy parts. The interior is packed but organized, and brightly lit. They have a doorbell to ring to be let in, which means sometimes you might have to stand there for an extra 30 seconds while someone comes to unlock the door. Not a big deal. Still requiring masks for all customers, which is also appreciated! The hours are great for folks who can't make it in until after work. read more

Overall negative experience. When I brought my bike in for a $90 basic tune up, the mechanic made fun of my bike 2, 3, or 4 times. He called it weird, old, funny, then weird again. Cool, I get it. Thank you for that. I came by to make sure my bike is tuned up and safe for riding, not to be made fun of. Mechanic really struggled to find basic tools around his workbench. He made comments here and there about what MIGHT need attention. Then he wrote up a work order, which I never saw, and sent me on my way. No paperwork, no quote, no estimate. Only thing I got was, "Should be ready next, Tuesday." In the meantime, another customer was getting a pedal fixed. Not exactly sure what the repair was, but while she waited her mechanic leaned, fussed with the pedal, really struggled to remove it, leaned some more, more fussing, more hunting for tools. The customer wanted to know how long the repair would take, and her mechanic gave a jackass remark about "how long do you have?" And it seemed to upset your customer. I hope they were friends. I hope they were playing and just giving each other a hard time, but it wasn't obvious to me if that was the case. I didn't like the vibe in your shop. Seemed like the priority was to make customers feel small, versus earning their business and trust. But, maybe I am a little touchy about these things because I work in an industry where customer service is the bare minimum, especially if I want people to continue working with me. Fast forward to pick up day, my bill was about $180. A cool 2x the amount I originally signed up for. Turns out no one contacted me to chat about little things that needed work. They just went ahead and did the repairs and replacements without confirming with me. When I asked to speak to someone about the issue, dude just walked away and sat down like he didn't give a shit. Cute. The guy who stepped in gave me 25% off the labor and parts that were added to my bill without my consent. Decent move, but I feel completely bummed to be treated this way. Repairs are fair. Labor make sense. My bike is riding very well which is the whole point of the tune-up and repairs. SO thank you for that. However, how many other repair shops are in a 5 mile radius from Turin Cycles? And why would I ever come back to Turin? read more

I went in today with a broken rear wheel cassette. A helpful man named Ethan met me and he was knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and about as chill as it gets. He mentioned that my bottom bracket was showing some wear and tear and I should think about getting it repaired soon. I'd noticed the same problem so I knew he wasn't selling me something superfluous. He and another mechanic took some measurements and told me they could have the bottom bracket done in about an hour. I went next door, had a cup of coffee, and about 40 minutes later they called me to let me know my bike was ready to pick up. Awesome! Super friendly, no attitude that I've experienced at other shops, and these guys know their stuff and are wicked fast. I like this shop a lot. Thanks guys! read more

I was out on my usual bike route when my shifter cable apparently snapped inside the lever housing . I was then stuck in the highest gear after the cable snapped. I was wondering how sore my ankles would be when I got back home when I realized that I was not far from Turin but I'd never been there before and I didn't have a mask with me because I am fully vaccinated. I was so pleasantly surprised that I was greeted in such a welcoming manner after I pushed the bell button on the door . They gave me a mask so I could come into the air-conditioning and were quickly able to figure out that I was stuck/stranded and not only replaced my cable but adjusted my other lever as well, adjusted my brakes and tire pressure as well . I was ready to really pay the Piper even though they had estimated it all to be in the $30-40 range with all of the tlc that my ride needed but I was astounded to learn that it was only $38 !! I thanked them for saving my day - response . . "That's what we're here for ." You're really missing out if you don't at least stop-in online or to check out their cool merchandise in-person . I needed to get fender fixed on an busy day at this shop. At first I thought I might need to replace the entire fender, but the mechanic told me it was an easy fix and he fixed it right then at the shop. Everyone working at this place is very nice, they saved me a bunch of money and the mechanic was able to fix my fender on the spot when the shop was very busy. I've been a cyclist in Chicago for years and have had my bicycles serviced at a handful of local bicycle shops. I would definately recommed this shop and I plan to return in the future. read more

The few times I have tried... key word tried to come here they usually have the door locked and it takes the staff several minutes to come to the door to let others in. Granted I know we're in a pandemic but even when I finally have been in the store I felt unwelcome. I also am not a fan of items in the store lacking labeled prices. Today was my first time going to Turin, I had planned to bring my bike to another place but found out they are not currently taking in repairs so I thought I'd try out Turin. Jon helped me fix my break and oiled my squeaky chain and had it ready in about 15 minutes, all for a very reasonable price (less than I had expected). I had been reading reviews on a few of the places near me and had expected to leave it for a couple days and pay more. Also Jon was super nice and because of that I inquired about a future purchase I was thinking about and he took the time to chat with me about that. I've had both my bikes worked on here and they came out well. The basic tuneup includes a thorough wash that had my bike looking new. The staff is friendly and patient explaining things. One of the staff spent a lot of time helping me adjust a helmet even though I was just buying the cheap $50 one! There's a bike pump outside when they're open if you need air. read more

I had my first experience (and DEFINITELY NOT LAST) at this shop today. I bought a pawn shop bike last week (shame on me, I know, but hey! it was a really good deal!) and the front derailleur was completely misaligned. Tried fixing it myself, made it worse so I decided that it probably was best to take it to a professional. I went to a shop that is literally less than a block away from my apartment (Gary's) and he said he would not be able to get the bike back to me for FOUR DAYS. I was heartbroken, since today is probably the last nice day we're going to have until next spring.... So, I hopped on yelp and found two options, Turin and Johnny Sprockets... Johnny's was closer, however after reading the glowing reviews of Turin, I decided to go the extra few miles and take it there instead; and my GOD am I happy that I did! I walked in, they took a look and literally fixed it in ten minutes for ten bucks!! (four days my *explicit*). It rides like an absolute dream now! I also inquired about a tune up, because I'm certainly going to need one before next spring. They quoted me $80 but said they have deals in the colder months where they'll knock off 20-30 dollars from the normal $80... AWESOME. If you are around this area and need anything fixed on your bike ONLY GO HERE! Also, I saw four other people come in with various issues and they also had their bikes fixed in the same amount of time as they serviced mine.... this place has absolutely top notch customer service! I took a very beat down bike to Turin to get the tires replaced. Jon was very helpful, he agreed that the bike was beat-down, but understood the need to keep a beat-down bike operational for certain occasions. My daughter and I had a rather hilarious conversation with him (and she enjoyed it so much she pushed me to write this review, a year later). I probably felt the most comfortable I ever have in a bike shop. All of my experiences have been positive, either biking in with a flat tire or scheduling a complete tune up for multiple bikes. And not just Jon, most of the employees are knowledgeable and very willing to help you with any questions you might have. Turin is truly unique- it's the complete opposite of many past experiences I've had with bike shops (all intimidating & horrible). I highly recommend Turin. read more

OK, so I was a fan of Turin for a while. Their mechanics are solid. I have two complaints: first, that I spent a lot of money on new brakes that didn't work any better than the old ones that I'd salvaged off of a generic bike I bought on Amazon, and I don't fault the manufacturer for that, I fault Turin, because I don't think they were tuned well and if I'm spending the money I expect the product to work as soon as I walk out the door. Second: Natalie B. says she had a good experience here as a female cyclist. And no, the mechanics here didn't talk down to me the way they do at other shops, which I appreciate, BUT - one of their mechanics ended up getting really creepy with me, found me on facebook, started flirting with me despite my absolute clarity about not wanting to be flirted with (like, I said explicitly that I was not looking to be courted because he explicitly asked what my dating status was, and I was also explicitly clear about seeing someone else), and wound up texting me every day and getting weird. Now I can't go back to the shop because I'm super-uncomfortable. If he wasn't there I'd still go to Turin, but as far as I know he is, so they don't have my business anymore. This is a big deal to me and I mention it because there is a lot of bias in the cycling community against female cyclists, so it's hard enough as it is, but to be skeeved out by your mechanic is just... I don't know. It's unacceptable and unprofessional. I'd be vocal and public about it no matter what sort of business it was because it merits being said if your local professionals are going to be creeps. read more
