Service was great! I had a flat tire and needed a brake handle replaced and they cared for all of it in a couple hours.

I chose this place based on the reviews, so I brought my bike in for a full tune up. Logan was the first person I met and she was a true delight. She's very knowledgeable, patient and very friendly. Explained to me my choices on water bottle holders, baskets and front and rear racks for my bike (Electra Cruiser 7D Lux) which she helped look up the model. Needless to say, Electra makes their own racks specifically for their bikes, so I ordered my racks directly from Trek and brought them in for them to install, a guy received them but he was short and not as friendly as Logan. I received my bike outside because someone was inside and due to COVID-19 they only allow one person at a time. Well, there were a few things needing tweaking, and I was helped outside by the same guy, he was helpful but seemed in a rush. I waited and went inside to pay, asked Logan about helmets and she took the time explaining the different kinds they carry. Ended up buying one. Of all the people I dealt with Logan was the best. If I come back it would be for her. read more

I just gotta say, this was probably the best experience I've ever had not just with a bike shop, but on a bike! I've been staying in Chicago for the summer with my mom. I brought my skateboard to cruise around, which works great downtown, but not so much in our neighborhood. Our neighborhood is a bit jaggedy. I thought to myself, I could probably have a lot of fun here on a bike! I'd been considering getting into BMX on and off for years, so I decided to stop into Roscoe Bikes. I was thinking I'd just go in and look at bikes, and talk to the shop runners, but I was surprised. I walked in and the girl working that day told me I could try one out and buy it, but i said "i'm not in the market to buy. I'm on a trip." She told me, "I think we got a setup that's be right for you. Take it around, try it out for as long as you like!" She pulled down a bike from the rack but it wasn't your typical BMX bike. It had front and rear brakes, and it was very light, stiff, and maneuverable. I rode for an hour, and found a nice alley behind the shop with some little jumps (street hits as BMX riders call them). I decided to try a few simple tricks. Tricks came very easy and i was very surprised with how light the bike felt! It was my first real BMX experience, and i wasn't expecting to get a free demo of a bike! I thanked the girl working there (she's obviously a BMX rider too). She was very happy to give me my first real BMX experience. I looked at other similar setups, but none are quite this high quality for the price! I found out later that it's fully aluminum, something that's usually very pricey! I'm now set on buying this bike when I'm back in Idaho! I'll put some pics in read more

My heart has but one iota of sadness associated with this place and that's only that I didn't find it sooner. A very laid-back and unpretentious environment. (Sidenote: When did people start getting pretentious about bikes? What happened to the good old days when people only judged you by the music you liked and books you read?). If you love your bike as much as I do, you know it can be really difficult to find a good bike shop in Chicago. Sure, that may sound crazy for a big city... but do you know how many rip-offs are out there?! You've got to be careful! Roscoe Village Bikes is officially my go to spot for any repairs to my baby. For good reason: they're skilled, knowledgable, entertaining, quick, and inexpensive. To be honest with you, I had never been as pleased as I was then when I had visited RVB. It was one of the first weekends of warm weather and POP - I ran over glass that an idiot threw in the bike lane on Lincoln and desperately needed a new tube to make it home. I called up a few shops and was quoted anything from 17-25 for a new tube including labor and because it was so late my bike would most likely have to sit overnight (really though?). Well, after being cooped up during such a crappy winter, I had some riding to do on such a beautiful day. Siitting overnight was not an option and the CTA was not a very appealing alternative. RVB had the best price and was the closest to my unfortunate tire problem so I headed over with no expectations. When I arrived, I was promptly greeted by two guys at the front counter. They were extremely inviting and although the place was closing in about 30 mins or so and obviously busy, they took my bike in without any problem. In fact, they seemed happy I had chosen them. That was refreshing! Anyway, long story short they fixed my bike and even helped me pick out some cool lights for my bike. We had a really great conversation in the ten or so minutes it took for them to fix her up, too. Here's the best part: I was so excited my bike was back in action, I couldn't wait to take it outside for a test ride. Before I hopped on, I saw that their mechanic had tightened up a few bolts that were loose and went out of his way to even tighten up my lock-holder. WHOA. I was really surprised that someone took time out of their day to do something like that...for no reason. I know it probably didn't take him long or mean much to him, but that gesture meant a lot to me. That kind of genuine customer service is hard to come by these days and as long as I'm in Chicago, I'll find it very difficult to go anywhere else for my biking needs. I'm not what you'd call an experienced urban biker. In fact, I'm about 15 years past my Purple Huffy days and haven't been on a bike much since. Until last month, that is. After biking 97 miles in a charity bike event (yeah, I'm bragging - I'm damn proud!), I was hooked. Hooked, but still generally clueless. Enter, Roscoe Village Bikes. From the start, the staff was incredibly helpful. I owned up to my inexperience yet was never made to feel silly (even when I asked some pretty silly questions). I'd brought my helmet with me (gotta protect the money-maker!), so I took some bikes on a test drive. RVB got it right on the first try - I tried other bikes, but I fell in love with my new silver baby and was ready to make it my own. The fine folks at RVB helped me add a rack, baskets, and Kryptonite lock holder thingy. Tricked out and personalized, I was ready to hit the road. Bike purchase comes with 4 free tune-ups and there's a 15% discount on "safety gear" (helmets, locks, blinky lights, etc.). This review is probably a bit overdue, since I bought a bike from RVB last year. But now I've had the chance to go back a couple more times for routine maintenance, so I have even more to Yelp about! (Procrastination for a Purpose...that's my motto!) I hadn't bought a bike since I was in ... high school, maybe middle school. At which point my parents really bought the bike, and I just kind of picked it out. Probably from WalMart but I don't really remember. Anyway, I was not in the habit of bike shopping, is where I'm going with this. I used a website known as Yelp (perhaps you've heard of it) to find bike shops with good reputations. Enter Roscoe Village Bikes... So I enter RVB, and am at first struck by how small it is inside. But don't let this throw you! Yes they are a lot smaller than some bike shops you may see around town. But for one thing, they keep their stock in the basement, and just have one of each model out for show. For another, they don't carry dozens and dozens of models because...they don't need to! They find a good variety of quality bikes and just stock those. Do you really want to go to a store and have 100 bikes to choose from anyway? No, you don't! The people here are very helpful. I wish I could remember the name of the girl who was helping me, but as I said, it was last year. She was very patient, informative and--most importantly, to me--low pressure. I didn't buy a bike on my first visit. And she was very cool about it, no hassle at all. So after some research, I returned and bought my shiny red new bike! I've been very happy with the bike and the price I paid for it, and the service I received after. All new bikes come with 2 free check-overs and 2 free tune-ups. The check-overs are quickies where they make sure everything is OK and make any adjustments your bike may need after being broken in. The tune-up is more thorough. Pretty nice, eh? I definitely recommend RVB without hesitation, especially for bike shopping virgins. They'll be gentle, I promise! read more

After a riding around for several weeks with my gears flip-flopping more wildly than a news report from the mainstream media, I decided to bring my bike to the doctor. But let me backpedal a bit. I'd been riding my bike all winter and spring without incident, and decided in early summer that a tune-up might be nice. Well, after a completely dissatisfactory outcome at Smart Bike Parts, I knew that a second opinion was in order. SO: I walked into Roscoe Village Bikes, them of the unanimously glowing reviews, and was met by the melting brown eyes of their resident pooch. Aww. I then explained my situation to the girl at the desk, and how the folks at SBP had dismissed my trusty Gary Fisher Wahoo as a cheap, old bike that would never perform normally again. In an even, confident tone, she replied, 'Your bike is DEFINITELY not ready for the scrap heap. I know we can fix it.' AAAAAWWWWWW. Instant crush. If it weren't creepy, I'd have bought her a gelato from Mario & Gino's from across the street. A double. As it was, I just smiled: 'Awesome! Be back Monday, then?' A month later, my bike is still purring like a cat full of tuna. The gears are switching so smoothly they cause less disturbance than a Chinese platform diver piercing the pool. All this with no excuses, no remarks, no guff. If you ever need your bike worked on, GO HERE. You will find nary a 'bike messenger' looking person, yet somehow these people know how to fix bikes. Surprise! They may not chat you up about how mad Critical Mass was, and they may not invite you for free drinks. But they know how to work with bikes. Wow, in a bike shop? Seriously? I love bike shops. I love local shops. Roscoe Village Bikes is both a bike shop and local (to me.) I really really love local bike shops. I've been to this place a few times. A couple of times I just looked around to see if there was anything I felt like buying impulsively. A couple more times I actually went in for something. The first time I actually went for something they didn't have it in stock but where happy to order it for me the next day and it arrived the day after that. The next time I stopped after a ride to have them fix my squeaking brake which they fixed in a snap for next to nothing. They're really friendly and helpful. Though they don't have an awful lot of stuff up front, they are happy to get it for you and maybe if we all keep shopping here they can move into a bigger place with more fun stuff. Also they have free air right up front for you so make sure your tires are properly inflated before you ride... I'm not sure if there's a presta valve on it though. read more
