It's a blessing that this shop is open Sundays. My sheer luck pop my tire while on a ride. I had to walk and then take the bus to get here. The repair job was pretty quick, I waited while I marvelled at the yarn displays. The resulting work was satisfactory. I was glad to ride my bike home and didn't have to come back for it another day. They sell and build bikes too. read more

Without question, the best little bike shop on the NW Side! I have also submitted a Google review which I won't repeat here (redundant), but suffice it to say that I highly recommend Brian and Liz for all of your bike/cycling and yarn needs. Located just off the North Branch, Sauganash AND North Channel Trails, keep them in mind for anything which may come up before, during and after your ride(s). They'll handle it and have you covered. read more

Best service! Tater is the sweetest dog ever and there's an amazing selection of yarn!

Super helpful bike repairs, reasonable pricing, quick service, neighborhood vibe, yarn! (Hope they do classes for newbies), and Tater the DOG. Great place! read more

Great experience dropping off my vintage 80s roadbike here for a tuneup. The owner (Brian?) not only diagnosed an issue I didn't kno I had (a broken axel), but was able to correct an issue with my handlebars that was due to incorrect work being done by a previous bike shop. After hearing about his story about how he got into this business and is approach for gradually modernizing old bikes to take advantage of new standards and more effective components, I'll be coming back with our other bikes. A reputable, friendly, fairly priced bike shop! read more

It really is refreshing to enter a bike shop with such a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. I stopped in to get help completing a winter MTB build. Brian and Liz were super helpful and I ended up taking a wheel build class. Needless to say I had a great time and learned a lot. I totally recommend this shop. read more

I had this beautiful bike since 2013 and only had ridden jt a handful of times. I wasn't the most knowledgeable about bike repair and didn't want to deal with possiblity of someone trying to sell me more than I needed. 2020 rolls around and here is the pandemic that pretty much force people to be active before they lose their minds. I... am one of those people. I did a simple Yelp search for bike repairs in the area and Cog Cycles came up. I read the few reviews they had and headed over to Google. I mean, who doesnt use Google nowadays right? After lots of raving reviews about the Brian and Liz, I decided to take a chance on them! I gave them a call with no answer. That's okay, they may be busy. You can always leave your name and number with them. Weirdly, I was able to send a message to them through Google (seriously when was THIS a thing?!). They reached out to be by phone the next day and was available to take a look at my bike. I brought my bike in and Brian got to looking at it. He let me know what was wrong with my bike and asked what exactly did I want done. Do I just want to get it rideable or possibly do any custom work on it and so forth. Me? I just want it to get me to point A to point B without falling apart. Brian and Liz are absolutely friendly and helpful! Brian personally looked at my bike and made some suggestions on what should be change and what can still be kept on it. He is trying to SAVE you money. If there is some "life" on a part on the bike, Brian will let you know it doesnt have to be changed. He is a honest guy. He gives you a rough estimate when it will be done. I would suggest to call ahead of time and check to see if your bike is ready. They are a small shop and there's only two of them. Plus, the shop can only accommodate two other people at a time (during this pandemic of course.) I will definitely keep them as my regular for any bicycle needs! Check out my beauty. read more

Your local Bryn Mawr shop. Bought a rebuilt bike so that I can ride RAGBRAI a few weeks ago. I took it in to get it fitted so that I am more comfortable. Price was right, work was right, and there's a dog to pet. What more do you want out of a bike shop? In addition, another bike shop owner took a look at my bike and asked who did the rebuild. When I told him, he said, "Well, you are all set them. I know his work. It's good stuff." read more

Couldn't be more pleased with my interaction with Brian and Liz. I was in the market for a used bike that was versatile and fit my frame. Brian returned my phone call promptly and let me know what they could do. Open only since August they have definitely been keeping busy, CYCLING bikes in and out of the shop. (pun intended) Reading the reviews they already have the reputation for being a standup/honest shop, what more could you ask for. Went in to take a look and quickly found the bike for me, and Brian and Liz had it available THE NEXT DAY! SO PLEASED! great shop. Will definitely be back. Thanks read more

Small shop, mostly rebuilds vintage bikes. My Trek was an "oldy but goody" to me. I needed minor repairs but hung around and got a new tire and wheel as well. Very helpful and didn't try to sell me anything. I had to talk him into getting me a very expensive tire. Definitely my new go-to bike shop. read more

I found this shop thru Yelp. The front tire on my bike won't inflate. They fixed the problem and I was in / out within 15 minutes. $20 charged isn't bad at all. read more

Very honest, kind and conscientious owners, I came in with a flat tire on my daughter's bike, which was difficult to fill, they quickly fixed it, didn't charge me, and when I insisted on paying something, they donated the funds to bike repair for people in the community who could not afford to make repairs. read more

If you're looking for honest people, a quality job, and a custom bike experience...I highly recommend Brian and Liz's bike shop. They put a new set of handlebars on this road bike I bought. After going for a long ride the next day, I ended up not like the bars. So I went back and they listened to what I wanted and then delivered with this straight bar. They switched things out a bunch and let me keep test riding until I figured out what I wanted. The bike I brought home is truly a custom bike all thanks to Brian and Liz listening without judgement and providing great recommendations. Very kind people. They truly want the best bike for you. read more

HUGE THANKS to this lovely little bike shop! I stopped in here on my way out for a long ride today and couldn't be more impressed or pleased with the service! I am very much a novice when it comes to all things bikes and I am constantly worried I have done something wrong with or to my bike. I heard some funny noises when switching gears and stopped in to get a quick check. The guy there was super friendly, understanding and best of all very nice-- I didn't feel intimidated (usually I do in most bike shops) and he assured me nothing was wrong. I will definitely be coming here again for bike servicing. read more

came here for the yarn, first, will probably also come here for my bike tune up in the spring. really nice owners. yarn selection is limited, but that's to be expected in a small, shared space. what they do have is delightful. warning: tater likes to steal gloves! read more

Mine (1994 GT) and my wife's (1987 Ross) bikes are older models that needed work but the frames were in good shape. We're casual bicyclists and we didn't want to spend over a thousand $s for new bikes. We discovered Cogs Cycles and Brian, the owner, was very enthusiastic to repair our bikes. He did what needed to be done and didn't try to sell us anything extra. If you have an older bike and would like to get it fixed Cog Cycles is the place to go. You will not be disappointed. read more

Need a bike?..need your bike repaired or tuned up?..go to Cog Cycles and check out Brian and his lovely wife!!. I recently bought a very old used vintage English Robin Hood step-thru bicycle at a thrift store. Initially, I was undecided as to what I would do to the bike, but I knew it needed some tuning/sprucing up to make it safe for riding. My friend suggested that I take my bike to a nearby bike shop near his house to have it looked at for a tune-up. I am so happy that I did! Brian and his wife took great care of me and turned my dusty old bike into a "Cinderella beauty" of a bike! They are extremely knowledgeable in bikes, bike parts and hardware and gave me great suggestions on how I could achieve the look I wanted for the rebuild. Also the cost was very reasonable. When I picked up my bike I was very pleased with how it turned out!! Thanks again Brian! I've gotten so many compliments on the bike since taking it out. I will keep this one for a long time. read more

Brian and Liz did it! Stoked to see these two with a storefront! From recycled, to upcycled, to repurposed, or new, or new vintage, Cog cycles doesn't disappoint. Brian was sure to find out what I wanted out of my bike, and was able to take what I had, and turn it in to something I love even more. I can't recommend these two and Cog cycles enough. Thanks again y'all. See you soon. read more

Quick work and a fair price. He only works on bikes, doesn't sell new bikes so his main business is repair and reconstruction.

I've been biking across Chicago for over a decade now. I've gone through 3-4 bikes, thousands of miles, and regularly commuted through the Chicago winter from Roger's Park to Wicker Park. Now that you know I'm not some fair weather doofus, I can tell you that Cog Cycles is 100% the place to take your bike! Brian is amazing--very personable, kind, and warm. He overhauled my entire bike for under $100. The work was professional and had my baby looking like the day she came out of factory. He didn't do work that wasn't required and was completely transparent about cost, work required, time, etc. You're getting the efficiency of a well-oiled machine married with the old time charm of an honest business. And get this--he didn't want me to come out to the shop so he personally dropped off my bike TO MY HOUSE. What place will give you that kind of service? If you need a tune up, something bigger, or just want some biking advice, Cog Cycles is the place to go. read more

Brian and Liz are fantastic! Initially I was looking for help on what to do with my vintage bike. He was open and honest with my options. Then I ended up buying a vintage bike from a friend for my daughter. I brought it Brian for a check and tune up. He's honest, thorough and a pleasure to work with. Also, he really knows vintage bikes. This vintage bike is now almost like new and my daughter is looking forward to riding. If you need a bike repaired, don't go anywhere else!! read more
