I've been driving PCH since I turned 16 and I've probably gone past Cosentino's a hundred times over the years. When I needed to gift a plant that would do well in a coastal climate, I remembered this place. Getting there was tricky because the road is still closed due to the fire. But once I pulled into the parking lot I knew it was worth the trip. Right front and center were several tables of beautiful planter dishes. Perfect for a gift! Everyone there was super helpful. I wandered around for a bit to take in all the amazing succulents they have on hand. An older woman, sweet as pie, explained to me that pretty anything will grow in their perfect climate. She also told me that since the fires and the road closures that business has been very bad. Too bad because this place should be humming. But good news: PCH should be open again in time for Memorial Day. When you're in Malibu, definitely take a pit stop at Cosentino's for great plants and great customer service. read more

When I think of cactus, I think of hot and dry, desert air. However these cactus are in another zone. Old and new, big and bigger, this outdoor nursery is filled to overflowing with cacti of assorted sizes. Was on the lookout for 2 pretty pots in 5-6" in diameter to repot my orchid and money plant. Both sorely needed new digs. For some reason, they only had large pots here, not any smaller decorative ones. Although I did not walk away with anything in my hand, I walked away with quirky pictures in my camera. Found treasures among the ruins here. Enchanted popcorn pots. pans, cookie tins, even garbage cans and plates, filled to the brim with succulents. The toys were priceless. I imagined them coming alive in this setting. Fantastic location for the next TOY STORY movie. Those lucky plants, they are subject to ocean views and sea breezes, like I said, in another zone, the ocean zone. read more

We went to Cosentino's Nursery in Malibu today. It's dangerous. You can buy 16 succulents for $30. And then of course you need big pots to put them in, and potting soil. Wholesale succulents open to the public! There is limited signage but I did manage to find out that the 2 inch are 99 cents and 4 inch are $2.00. I got 6 of the two inchers with not a clue as to what they are I only know that they are beautiful. Not sure if the woman with the pink parasol works there or not but she sure was on my jock about where I was and was not supposed to be. She seemed half concerned for my safety but I guess she didn't realize that I have the proprioceptive prowess of a jungle cat and was not in danger of harming myself or the merch. Pots, plants, fertilizers, you'll find it here. It can be pricey but try and negotiate. If your looking for more variety head to point dume and go to Pacific View Nursery. They have some good fertilizers, apex and bioflora and if they are out they will order them for you. Sometimes they don't even ring you up, just a "give me x amount of $$ and take them". this place is massive and expansive. They have tons of terracotta pots in many colors and an insane amount of succulents. It feels endless. They also have smaller, premade, floral/succulent arrangements which are lovely as a centerpiece for your home or coffee table. The staff has always been helpful to me both in person or when calling. I know they do deliver as well. It's just off PCH and has parking. It's more or less entirely outdoors. The focus here is succulents so if you are interested in something else, I'd call ahead. Cosentino's has a very large selection of succulents and nursery plants at unbeatable prices. They carry a wide range of pots - from terracotta to beautifully glazed in all shapes and sizes!. In addition, they have the most beautiful already potted succulent arrangements and wreaths! They are gorgeous!! This long standing, family-owned, friendly business knows their stuff and are more than happy to help you find exactly what you're looking for whether your looking to start a garden, add to one or looking for a beautiful succulent arrangement for yourself or as a gift. A succulent fanatic's dream. Snuggled between side roads along the scenic Pacific Coast Highway rests Cosentino's Nursery, a safe harbor for hardy, adorable drought-friendly plants. The garden is run by a friendly and knowledgeable man whose love for greenery is effusive. The selection of flowering plants range from lavender to poppies and evergreens while the top section is reserved for the rows of mini-to-medium sized cuties (aka succulents). Came here on a Saturday to brows the succulent selection and was not disappointed. Looking more for smaller plants, Cosentino's had a large area filled with two and four inch pots. 2" pots $1 4" pots $2 or 5 for $8 1 gallons for $4-$6 (also a deal for five or more) Larger fancier plants running around $30 Phil, long time employee of Cosentino's has been working at the nursery since he was 18 years old, and was more than happy to show us around. He shared some of his knowledge about agave and helped us pick out a nice Blue Glow Agave, found us a small Blue Emperor Agave to fit our needs, and a medicinal Aloe Vera plant. This is a beautiful ocean view location to spend your morning picking out hearty healthy plants. As Phil stressed to us, these plants are hearty and ready to be taken home, because they are grown in the climate outside. He explained to us how big box stores like Home Depot grow all their plants in green houses, resulting in the plants going into shock and dying from being too quickly introduced to an outdoor area with real sun light. My only complaint is the sign of the business entrance is not visible enough when you driving at the speed limit on PCH and if you miss the entrance, it will take a while before you can make a legal U-Turn. I really enjoyed coming here, only complaint I have is that I was looking for someone because I had questions, there was no one to be found. By the time I got all the plants I wanted and was ready to pay. The owner then pops up out of no where. Note: Their entrance is easy to miss if you are driving a bit fast, you might not break in time. So if you miss it you would pretty much have to go further down and make a U turn to come back up. Found this great nursery thanks to the rave reviews online. I had the pleasure of meeting the owners during my visit. They are truly the kindest and most friendly people I have met in recent memory. They are clearly expert growers and baby their plants, which is clear when you take a walk around and see how healthy their whole inventory is. The lantanas are lush and huge. The succulents are thriving and surpisingly most are grown in full sun. Not a single scorched leaf or neglected plant in site. It was a hot morning when I visited and one of the owners was carefully watering and fertilizing each of the thousands of pots. Clearly a labor of love. The prices are beyond reasonable, which was a very welcome suprise. Buying in larger quantities drops the price even lower. But honestly with the health and vigor of the plants I bought (that are now thriving in a hot sunny location), I would have paid much more. So happy to have met such personable staff and support their business. A true LA gem. read more

Nice variety go of plants but the guying working there shuffled around constantly keeping an eye on my dad my wife and I. It wasn't a "just making sure they don't need any help" type of look it was a "I need to keep an eye on these people, might steal stuff" type of look. All three of us felt very uncomfortable the entire time we were there, to the point where we decided to get out of there. As we got in the car and drove off, he stared at us with a mean face as if we just robbed the place. Love this place! The beautiful pots will drag you in, the but the awesome and creative variety of succulents will inspire you to really create something cool for your home. The shop may seem out of the way and most likely pricey from the road, and yes, you can spend a lot on some of the pots, but I think there's something there for everyone. (so don't skip it!) I've had my succulents from there so long they became my pets. I just gave them to my girlfriend, because I thought I was moving to Seattle (which fell through) LOL. Located right off PCH in Malibu, this nursery really is a hidden gem. They have really great prices for their plants and succulents. The succulents in particular are $2.50 per plant or roughly $8.50 or so for 5 succulent plants. It's a really great deal and they have a fantastic variety. They also sell a lot of lavender plants and flowers. I tried to go find a few pots but I found that the smaller pots were mostly cracked and dirty so I don't recommend going there for terra cotta pots. Not to mention, the view is beautiful at this nursery because it sits atop of the hill. I highly recommend anyone who wants to find succulents for a good price to come here. read more
