Do not shy away from asking this family-run Artisanal Panini Grill what is their favorite for the day or what has been popular within the week, as specials are available till they run out. The annoyance came when the waitress with the accent sat down one of the loudest customers in the booth directly across from ours. Yet there was 3 empty booths behind us, as well as 3 empty booths across from those. Not to mention there was a whole east side of the restaurant that was practically empty. Great. An somewhat empty restaurant and she couldn't space us out??? It got even more annoying because an elderly customer walked in with a cane, and she asked him where he would like to sit. He was clearly shuffling and using the cane to keep up with her. Wouldn't logic tell you to just sit him at the closest available table? In fact, he "joked" with her to just sit him anywhere cuz he'd like to sit asap. As you guessed, no....she did not sit him in the closest available table. She even asked him something along the lines of, "Should I get you a high chair so it will be easier for you to sit?" (Referring to the taller bar-type chairs). Food was great. My server was great. The replacement server was very personable as well, and took our orders including multiple special requests. Our original server recovered enough to come back and check on us after we received our entrees. I think the chef could slice the mushrooms and Julianne the tomatoes for a better effect. The frittata was a little extra brown on the egg parts, probably a function of trying to get the eggs fully done around the large chunks of vegetables! Greens were plentiful but required more dressing. It was promptly brought overbon request. I lucked out and got to eat my friends blueberry compote for dessert, a spoon full of richness after my healthy meal. Server left out check for whenever we were ready, and we paid at the exit. Although the ownership and name have changed, much of the original menu has remained the same. I ordered the steak kabab pita, while my wife went with the steak shawarma pita. My kabab had nicely seasoned beef with a savory, grilled flavor, complemented by soft pita and fresh toppings. Her shawarma featured thinly sliced steak with slightly different seasoning and texture. Both were excellent. What I'd almost forgotten was how much I missed their pink garlic sauce and fries! The sauce is creamy, tangy, and packed with garlic flavor. They put it on just about everything with beef, but it also complements the fries perfectly. The atmosphere has changed a little but still feels familiar. It's nothing fancy, although the food is excellent and the prices are quite reasonable, especially these days. After three years away, it's nice to see Athena Pita is still as good as we remembered.
